Hey guys, im new to these forums and actually joined before i got this phone but thanks to yall i bought it knowing that id be able to customize it more than necessary(if there is such a thing). But as i read the instructions of flashing the ROM i got worried about losing my contacts. I have already synced my phone with my computer and in the event that it wipes the data off my phone, will the data that i synced on my computer refill that lost data on my phone???
Also, i dont have a microSD card yet but i wanted to know if i should go with an 8GB right off the bat or with a 4GB since i need an updated driver for 8?

Sync will keep your data but I prefer PIM backup it offers a more comprehensive backup...if you can afford 8GB get it. You can always install any fixes needed to use it, but if you only get a 4 you'll regret not getting more.

PIM backup? Where can i get this?
Also, where is the update for 8GB?
Thanks for any help guys...

Go right to the 8Gig, I bought a 6Gig and wish I had the extra two right now. If you are a sprint user and are going to upgrade the ROM chances are the ROM you upgrade to already has the SDHC drivers in it, or even the ROM that is on the phone has them already. If all else fails search for something like SDHC.dll that should return some useful results. I would sync w/ your pc, and use PIM back up, it's always better to be safe...search on here for PIM, or backup..I think it is one of the first threads in the "Development" section...

PIM Backup....Here you go...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705

The backup program they are talking about is free and it rocks. If you need help flashing, etc, this is the place.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks alot guys, i wanna flash mine but i have Verizon and not Sprint.
Also, do any of you guys know how to SEND via blue tooth? i setup my friends phone as a blue tooth device and i was able to receive but how do i send??

Software problem with qtek 9100

Hello,
I just bought a used qtek 9100 two weeks ago and am now starting to have problems. The previous owner installed windows mobile 6 underground edition, as well as some other updates. Currently the phone is freezing almost once a day, in which I have to take the battery out to reboot. If anyone can help me any suggestions would be greatly apptrietiated. I thought about trying to go back to the original wm5 or upgrading to wm6 does anyone know if that would work?
Thanks for any and all help

Have you tried doing a hard reset and then load it back up with your apps? This might clear a bad registry issue. Also the problem could be a 3rd party app that doesn't work well on WM6.
I would suggest you do move back to an original rom if you are having problems. Then you can look at playing with custom roms later when you get a feel for the device. Key thing is you want to get it stable.
Read the following on how to Flash roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
Since you are already running a WM6, its likely (if this is a G3) that you are CID Unlocked already (if you are a G4 than its likely you are not CID Unlocked).
You could try a newer WM6 (like XPlore 2.0 or Faria Vanilla from his kitchen) both of which are found in the Wizard WM6 board located here. But I think I'd recommend you just go back to the official carrier rom first.
Thank you
When you say to go back to the original software, where can I get that? I came accross a update on the t-mobile site that said it would remove all data stored on device, is this what you are talking about? I would hate to do something to make this phone incapacitated.
Also has anyone seen the windows mobile vista for a ppc? Does anyone know where to get it? Once I fixe this problem I would like to upgrade to that, unless there is something wrong with it.
Thanks for all your help

On PPC devices, if you flash a new rom (upgrade, downgrade) it wipes everything on the phone in memory. Sorry but no way around that. After doing it a few times you learn what to keep on your SD card, and you get pretty good at reinstalling stuff fairly quickly (but even then, I plan on about 2 hours of downtime when I'm going to flash my phone. About 15 mins to get some backups (so I can get back to where I was if the new rom doesn't work out), 30 mins to flash an official rom and flash the new rom, reflash the radio to the one I want. Then a good hour to set all of my apps back up (that part of the time is getting shorter).

There is no Mobile Vista. There is WIndows Mobile 6 and there are Vista style themes for it (heck there are Vista themes for WM5 for that matter).
So back to your original issue... You need to plan on wiping this device one way or another due to the current issues you are having (IMO). So if you want to stay with the Underground version of WM6, then just do a Hard Reset, and then set the phone back up. Otherwise, you need to look at getting the original rom for yoru phone (you can find these on the carrier's websites usually in the support/downloads area) or upgrading to some other custom rom.
Again, read the thread I gave you previously. You really need to read up on how this stuff works before you just start looking at flashing a new rom (official roms are pretty straight forward if you stay with the rom meant for your phone).
Now a different problem
OK, now im trying to get the phone back to the original settings from the company, but am having difficulty. I ran the update from t-mobile and it keeps saying there is a communication error. Im not sure if the previous owner had t-mobile or what carrier he used does this matter?
is there a way to un-grade the phone without a pc?
Im really having a hard time with this, ive been trying for around 4 hours to fix this issue without luck, someone please help im about to start using heavy drugs. Not really but you get the gist of it.
Thanks

need a lil help plz...

Alright, couple of issues I need help with, please;
First, I have a bluetooth GPS reciever and at one point I got it to talk to my wing.. of course until a hard reset. I know very little about bluetooth and am unsure what 'channels' to use or bluetooth/gps settings to use. I would love to get my live search working again with GPS- any help would be great!
Also, my work publishes my schedules online and I can export the .vcs database. Any idea how to get this schedule to go onto my calendar?
You should check out newegg.com, they are selling 8gb micro sd cards for around $40 bones and I was thinking of getting one. However, I don't have most of my .cab files for the programs on my 2gb card and don't want to go through the hastle of finding/downloading all the programs again. Is there a way to take the exact information from my old card and just transfer to my new card without having to reload programs and such?
You guys have always proved how powerful this website is for wing owners. Thanks again for everyone who contributes.

First mods to my G1

Hi, I'm Chris from Malta and I just got my White HTC G1.
I'm still getting to use it and to its million functions and would any help from others who have the same mobile. I
have 2 major problems at the moment :
1) I can't access the numbers saved on my sim card, anyone knows if there is any setting ?
2) I can't connect with other users throuh bluetooth, they told me there is a setting but can't find it !! Any help would be appreciated.
All the software that you installed and other that u didnt etc.
Any Upgrades available ?
Thanks
Chris
1) Goto your contacts and hit the Menu button. There will be an option for importing your SIM card data.
2) At your desktop screen press Menu then go into Settings. Everything for Bluetooth is under the Wireless Controls.
Honestly the first thing I did was I rooted my phone. It's a simple process just follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Reason I did that is because I wanted to install apps to my SDcard, give me access to themes, and give me the ability to tether my 3G connection to my laptop via wifi so I can play games like World of Warcraft on the go.
As for apps its up to you what you find useful. Personally I like Advanced Taskmanager (if you can't buy it I'm sure you can find the free version "Taskmanager for Root Users" somewhere but keep in mind you need a root'd phone for it), SnapPhoto (free version), ShopSavvy, Last.fm, Twidroid, and Locale.
Thanks a lot for answering Ron Overdrive
Managed the Contact thing but not the bluetooth one !! I mange to pair with others but not connect !!! Any help ?
Thanks
Chris
Bluetooth on the G1 is still a work in progress. Only two profiles are supported currently. Headset and handsfree. You will probably have to wait for google to send out an update before you can connect to other peoples phones over bluetooth.
Memory card
I'm trying to put music on my memory card inputted on the G1 but after putting the usb cable in its telling me to insert a disk into drive G when the memory card is already inside !!!
Can you help me please ?
Thanks
Chris
on your phone scroll down the notification bar.
click on the usb connection and mount your phone
out of point
not really about the subject but i just wanted to point out i'm from Gudja, i got my dev phone last December and i switched to Melita on the 6th February, I wanted to ask chris : How has it been with GO? did you get a monthly plan? and was the phone unlocked when you bought it?
thanks
Digirhino
Hi Digirhino, I'm with go on a pay as you go service. Got the phone locked, unlocked it through a code from the seller and the rest all ok.
Wanted to ask if its possible to install programs windows based such as MSN messanger etc on the android ???
Also is there any program that add time Hrs Minutes Seconds that works on the Android ?
Thanks
Chris

The ROM upgrade is for unbranded devices, which has nothing to do with the SIM lock. You can get an unbranded device serial number from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621752
It's a big thread, but it's there somewhere!
I believe you'll also need HSPL, which is in the ROM forum. That allows you to flash the ROM onto your device. If this is new to you, I suggest a good read through the stickied threads in the ROM forum first.
Hope this helps
Fast reply
Well if i do upgrade, what will i loose out and gain via tmobile? would it essentially be like a unbranded phone then? because i cant see tmobile doing anything in a long time... and would i have sim card issues? (as in unlock)

Once the SIM is unlocked, it's unlocked. No ROM flash will change that, so you can basically forget about that now.
As far as what you may lose from flashing an unbranded ROM, I'm not a T-Mobile user so I'm not sure about the changes they made to the installed software, but I believe they got rid of the youtube player. This can be reinstalled via a cab file, but this then messes up other video players on the device. I've not had anything to do with it, but it sounded messy.
With the ROMs from the HTC site you'll end up with a completely unbranded device, so you shouldn't have any of that faffing I just mentioned.
I'm afraid I don't know any further the extent of TMO changes as that's all I've seen mentioned. Rest assured, you're probably a lot better off with the official HTC ROM.
Brilliant, i shall give it a go, it does not seem that hard to be honest, plug in the cable and let it go right? Is there a way to back up my current rom or data on the device? etc...
Thanks a lot for help so far

No worries man - glad to help.
For backups, there's a lot of different things out there that will back up varying degress of information from your device, but not the ROM. If you ever need to go back to the ROM you've currently got then it's probably listed in one of the stickied threads at the top of the ROM forum.
Personally, I use Microsoft MyPhone. It uses your data/wifi connection to backup contacts, calendar, tasks, text messages, browser faves, photos, videos, music and documents, all off the device memory, with an option to backup the same off the storage card. (Yes, I did copy that list off the application - I'm not sad enough to know that by heart )
That's just my recommendation though. It doesn't backup registry and applications, but I just reinstall stuff after a flash anyway.
Hope this helps mate
I have been looking at doing this. I want to stick the new ROM on released a few days ago, and get myself a nice unbranded HD2. However, what will I have to do in terms of getting the internet and stuff working. Is it likely to be an issue?
So glad I found this thread by the way, I don't like the idea of waiting for t-mobile to pull their thumbs out of their arses.

Your connection settings are on the SIM chip, so you've got no worries there. When you've flashed the new ROM it will go through the setup process that you went through when you first got the phone. You select your provider and it does the rest.
Upgraded. Works perfectly, and I am not sure if it is psychosomatic, but it does seem more responsive. Very nice, and very easy. HSPL was surprisingly easy.

Yeah, it's not hard is it. And I totally agree that 1.66 seems faster and smoother than previous ROMs, but I too have wondered whether it was my imagination or not.
Who cares - it's better

[Q] HELP! Talk, text and data not working with new TmoUs account.

Hello I am experiencing a BIG problem . I Successfully flashed a Nand rom to my phone last year it worked great but after some shortcomings I could no longer afford my pay as you go plan. My phone service had been cut off for about 7 months until yesterday, since it was off so long I had to get a new Tmobile(us) account/SIM card. My phone booted up in android as normal with full 3G service bars but when I went to make a call it said "This Carrier will not allow phone calls to this number" shocked I went back to Tmobile to make sure my account was active and it was. My text also do not work and I cannot sign into my gmail account either. Ive searched the web and it does not seem that anyone has a solution to this problem PLEASE help me !!
Did you try reflashing it?
There are a few things that could be going on here:
1. tmobile has you on the wrong data plan which has happened to me in the past. The had me on a blackberry plan which messed up a lot but you should still be able to make calls.
2. You have a balance left over on that phone and tmobile has locked that phone
3. you need a new sim card. tmobile will gladly change out your sim for a new one for free
4: something is going on with Android on your phone.
I would talk to Tmobile again and ask for a new sim or go in the store and see if the sim you have will work in one of their phones. If it does then you know its
something with your phone. I would kind of start over just to clear up any problems. Start with making a back up of anything you dont want lost, including your
sd card. Then repartition your phone/sd to what the ROM you want to use needs. Reinstall MAGLDR and cwm and finally the ROM you want to use. See if that
helps at all. If i had to take a guess it could be something as simple as the simcard is messed up but without having them try it in another phone or you trying
it in another phone you wont know for sure. I know it seems like a lot but reinstalling this stuff should clear up if its your phone or your sim thats messing up.
Before you blame Android, flash your phone with stock WM 6.5 rom. If you still can't make calls or get any data, take the phone to a T-Mobile store and have them figure it out.
