About once a day my IE refuses to load pages. It will do the Locating... bit and then load a white page with no errors. The only way I can get it to start working again is to either edit my AT&T MEdia Net connection and save without making changes, or bounce in and out of flight mode. Then I get the 'connecting to MEdia Net' dialog and all is fine. Has anyone else seen this? None of my other network enabled apps behave like this.

yes, i have opera too, but this is sitll pissing me off.
i've been messing around with my vario II to have it be online both through my corporate firewall/proxy as well as on a normal internet connection.
something messed up. now, internet explroer no longer connects. i've tried numerous methods:
1) wireless (802.11) - says page not found, even though every other app works
2) 3G - says "locating" for like 30 seconds then says page not found
3) bluetooth/activesync - immediately shows a page under construction website, even if i'm opening google. this is for every site.
any tips?
something seems to have disappeared from my "connections" settings - now i no longer see the work connection / option to configure proxy. all i see now is my default "home" connection which only give the options "add a new modem connection" and "manage existing connections".
everythign else works fine.
any ideas?

I had exactly the same problems -- for weeks (although not with opera).
Called half an hour ago and got HSDPA enabled on my line.
Now works like never before!
I'm having the same issue, except that PIE WILL work with wifi, but not EDGE/GPRS.
Every other app works fine (Opera, Google Maps, etc) via wifi and EDGE/GPRS.
this may be unrelated, but when I had activesync on the pc set to 'automatic' instead of 'work' it would push proxy settings to my phone. verify this has happened by putting *.* for exceptions. if you can surf then, you have a proxy set up due to activesync from your work pc. some of my connections didn't show the proxy, but in the registry it was there. setting work pc to passthrough=work rather than automatic stopped this from happening again.
hope this was clear enough.

Thanks for the suggestion, but its still a no go.
It just boggles the mind that PIE doesn't work through GPRS/EDGE/3G but every other internet enabled app does... and that PIE will work through WiFi makes it even more strange.. Usually its the other way around for most people (problems with WiFi, not their mobile data connection).
I've even run the \windows\welcome.exe a few times, as this seems to have fixed it for some others.
I've also tried switching to wap.cingular (MEdia net), hard coding openDNS servers as well as the old standbys (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2).
I have a hermes I was using with tmobile. All browsers I tried worked fine with most web pages I went to for a long time. Then a few days ago tmobile locked down their data network and I had to go through some settings acrobats to get my tzones plan to work again, but the sites I used most, like yahoo mail, didn't work.
I switched to Cingular today and am using the media max plan and I'm getting errors on several of the sites I use, still. Yahoo complained about something java related and Orb is giving me problems too. I use the file browser function of orb to navigate my home PC and download music to my phone and it will still navigate fine, but earlier when I tried to download a song I got some error message, and now when I try it says opening... for awhile then gives up saying something about a lost connection.
What could be the problem and how would I fix it?
Also, wifi is suddenly not working anymore. With tmobile I had it set up so that wifi would be used if available, and if not, the data connection would be used. I used this guy's settings to get around the proxy problem: post # 254 in this hofo thread.
Now after switching to Cingular and installing the settings cab called Cingular Default WAP Medianet MMS Settings.cab I can't browse with my wifi connection, but google maps and weatherpanel can still use it just fine.
What's up with that?
So, I can't seem to find anyone that can help me. I have an 8525 with the official WM6 release. In December, a month after installing WM6, IE stopped being able to access webpages.
Whenever it starts, it loads the default AT&T/Windows Mobile home screen. If I click either of those links or type in a desired web address, it creates a data connection (sometimes 3G, sometimes edge), says "connecting...", locating... opening... and nothing loads. The screen stays white. I know that my data connection works fine, as I can use google maps, live mobile and send/receive e-mail. I'm not sure where the problem is, but I assume it is a setting issue. A couple days ago, I performed a hard reset and still encountered the problem. I have verified that my settings are per AT&T's posted recommendation.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!
I should also note that if I connect to a WIFI signal, IE works, so it is definitely a settings issue. I just can't seem to figure out how to correct it and I haven't been able to find anyone who could help either. Any assistance would be appreciated!
thank you
I have the same exact problem. I solved it by installing Opera, which works fine.
Try looking in start>settings>connections>connections
then advanced tab
go to select networks
on the first drop down, make sure you have at&t's media net selected.
Hope that helps
I have a slight problem with youtube: It plays fine over Wifi but NOT over the data connection. It loads the Streaming Media app, displays 'connecting' then buffering and then an error: 'No audio frames found'
If I enable Wifi it works just fine. The data connection works well for everything else, it's not using a proxy and it's set to conenct to the internet. It also seems to download the data as my GPRS data counter is showing a few MB's downloaded.....yet nothing played.
Has anyone seen this before?
TIA
No One? We'll I'll try a hard reset then....
I never had such a problem...
Well....after a hard reset and some testing I found that it seems to work on one AP but not the other. Strangely enough, the Streaming Media player uses the conenction I set up for it but unless both Internet and Private connections (under Settings/Connections) are also configured to use it it still does not work right. Using Internet sharing from the phone it works with either access point.....however that would make any sense..... I assume the mobile youtube page must use a different protocol for streaming than the page I get to se on the laptop. Anyway, I'm on Telstra....maybe on other networks you don't get these kinds of headaches ;-)
Cheers
I want to be in control on when phone tries to connect to network via other ways then WiFi. Do not want to get surprise bills, if the phone tries to connect to internet while I am abroad, for example. So I insterted empty prepaid SIM card (has zero balance, so you can't call from it) and just keep it for some time like this.
Data Connection is off
MS Direct push is off
However, phone still tries to reach internet for some reason. I get this "very imformative" message that you can see in attached picture, that informes me about failed attempt to dial out, but it does not tell which app tries to do that.
Very annoying. Any idea how can i figure out which app is calling out?
It is possible that it may be ActiveSync. I do get it connecting to the internet although all e-mail settings are set for manual syncing. I really should look into how to stop it.
A very nice app called NoData stops any program accessing the internet (except via WiFi).
I can't even see where those ActiveSync settings are, where should I look for those? Will try to find NoData app.
did you mean this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
This one - NoData
thanks, will try this one
It is most likely because you have something on in Sense that is wanting to see the internet. Things like the weather, and email accout, etc.. will try to update itself from time to time. Make sure you have all automatic updates turn off.
weather and email are set to update only when manually requested, so that should not be a problem. Installed NoData from above post, so far so good, will keep an eye for couple of days.
unhappy to report that still some app uses internet via mobile network without my knowledge. How annoying Nodata certainly removed the message that was popping up, but does not seem like it resolved my problem. Why this has to be so difficult ?
not sure if it will work, but -
try WMLongLife, which (AFAIR) should pop-out a question whether you want to enable 3G - each time when new app is trying to make network connection - this way you could find out which it is
