Unexplained change in browsing; help, please! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a hermes I was using with tmobile. All browsers I tried worked fine with most web pages I went to for a long time. Then a few days ago tmobile locked down their data network and I had to go through some settings acrobats to get my tzones plan to work again, but the sites I used most, like yahoo mail, didn't work.
I switched to Cingular today and am using the media max plan and I'm getting errors on several of the sites I use, still. Yahoo complained about something java related and Orb is giving me problems too. I use the file browser function of orb to navigate my home PC and download music to my phone and it will still navigate fine, but earlier when I tried to download a song I got some error message, and now when I try it says opening... for awhile then gives up saying something about a lost connection.
What could be the problem and how would I fix it?

Also, wifi is suddenly not working anymore. With tmobile I had it set up so that wifi would be used if available, and if not, the data connection would be used. I used this guy's settings to get around the proxy problem: post # 254 in this hofo thread.
Now after switching to Cingular and installing the settings cab called Cingular Default WAP Medianet MMS Settings.cab I can't browse with my wifi connection, but google maps and weatherpanel can still use it just fine.
What's up with that?

Agile multi service messnger Free Beta w/ working PTT

Hey all. Downloaded and installed the new Agile messenger beta last night. Let me just say it is phenominal and no issues of button jacking. I assigned the voice command button as my PTT and chatted up my buddy at work who was offline at the time. When I got to work he told me he had received the voice msg loud and clear. I suggest you all grab it while it's still free and hold onto it for later reflashing. After I closed the app my VC button functioned as normal. Hats off for an outstanding product. I wonder what else the released version will have ?
http://agilemobile.com/downloads.html
Thanks!
My pleasure guttrhead. 4 different instant messengers all working at the same time. I can easily text one friend and send voice messages to others. I've only used over wifi so I cannot speak to cellular lines.
Thanks Farooq. (The original diseminator of information) I just beat him to the post. lololol
I installed it and everything went smoothly, but I cannot seem to connect to any of my messengers.can use the Instant Messaging Program that shipped iwth my MDA and that works fine. Any ideas?
Maybe your network selections ? I have mine set to only connect through a wifi connection.
Which button do you use as the push to talk?
I tried various buttons but it doesn't recognize it.
I have the Qtek 9000 Universal btw.

well i use my GPRS setting to connect my other instant messengers. Can this only be used if WiFI is present?
Should work either way, wifi or GPRS/EDGE. I only use the wifi as I'm near several AP's at work and two at home.
deleted dbl post, sorry.
I am using GPRS to connect.
I find the connection cut off or I should say the application stopped after a while of idle.
Can you guys suggest any method to keep the connection on for a long period of time.
thanks
There is a registry key that you have to change for that.
I find that I can get on agile when I have my cingular proxy enabled on my EDGE connection. When I use EDGE without the proxy it works great.
For those of you who are having trouble with GPRS, please try Vijay555's software.
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
It allows you to create icons on the desktop so that you can toggle the GPRS on and off again. Also does Bluetooth, Wifi and others (I only use the 3 above). The instructions that you need to pay attention to is at the bottom of the page where instructions are available for you to put in a simple command to turn on/off the feature you want.
There's also another software out there that is a lot simpler which just turns on the GPRS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49839&highlight=gprs
Try that and see if Agile stays on by toggling the GPRS that way.
FYI, I'm using the vijay555 software. I like it. Always wanted to have icons on the desktop to turn features on and off.
Vijay555 - You're the greatest!
Hope that helps.
is this the version of agile messenger that disconnects the phone from the service operator (when you have to retype your pin and so on)?
the problem we had with the alpha-version...
I'm connected using WiFi but don't seem to be able to send any pictures (from my camera - MDA Pro).

I do not believe this error is present in the beta.
rats. doesn't work for me. just sits there at the google connect ans waits..... and waits..... and, you get the picture.
and hints on getting this working via gtalk?
i'm using a tmobile mda.
thanks.
PS.. how about an option to edit a created account? just being able to add/delete my not allow us to fine tune a defined connection.
mr skot,
as far as I know, t-mobile and google don't play well together.
I've and along with a bunch of others are having problems connecting to google via the T-mobile USA GPRS connection.
That might be the problem you're facing.
Supposedly T-mobile is looking into it.
But a forum member also mentioned that they've been looking into it for a long long time.
Clueless
Ok, so I am still trying to learn how to use the full potential of my MDA. I was told by TMobile that in order to use these applications that utilize the GPRS Network that I had to purchase full internet access that gave me access to GPRS. Is this true? I was under the assumption that GPRS access is included in baasic phone service...

how to limit connection to only wifi

last year my daughter's fiance wanted a wizard so i gave her one to give to him.
she broke up before she gave it to the guy.
now my daughter has a new almost fiance and this guy got the wizard.
he is complaining that sometimes the wizard connects to cingular data and not to wifi.
of course he doesn't want to pay the cingular data charges so how do i disable that and limit his connectibility to wifi.
do i just make sure the data connection is turned off in connection manager or is there a better way.
thanks

Look for a cab called Modaco NoData. It allows you to turn off data access to whichever methods you don't want. I can post the cab later today. Its also found built into my xda mobile 6 rom.
thanks for the response.
i tried to download it from modaco but got an error message even though i was logged in.
finally found it on a european site and grabbed it.
thanks again.
i tried to install the cab on my g4 8125 with wm6.
NoData does not run properly.
i get a NullReferenceException
with a couple of more lines that start with System.Windows.Forms.Form etc.
any ideas how to fix this program in wm6 or turn off the edge a different way.
thanks
an old solution to this use to be to go to settings --> connections --> connections --> advanced. then from there click on select rules and change it so that both settings are set as "My Work Network". setting it to my network only connected via wifi or when wired...since i think the my isp setting might have the wireless service information.
not a 100% guarantee, since i don't use the internet either, but i've always set it this way and haven't had any connections to the internet. even when i open up ie, it doesn't try to connect to anything.

T-mobile US proxy hosed?

I have a TyTN (originally ATT 8525 flashed to vanilla WM6.0) that I gave my wife a while ago. She had the T-Zones 5.99 internet up and running just fine a few months back, but wasn't really using it so we dropped the plan. We still used WiFi a bit, so I disabled the T-Mo connection. Now, I'm using the phone for myself and want to get T-Zones back, so I used Lurch's connection installer. When I try to use an Internet app (like PIE), I see that it's connecting, then it thinks for a while, and pulls up a HTTP ERROR: $CODE$. At first, it didn't have the proxy set up (I forgot that Lurch didn't do that, I guess), but even after fixing it and soft resetting, I get the same problem. Is there maybe something wrong with the proxy or some such?
try this cab..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395203
Actually, I tried that just before you posted, and it *did* fix my PIE issues. Unfortunately, I don't think Gmail IMAP is working, but I don't have my phone handy to double-check. I believe only traffic to/from port 80 (and maybe 8080?) is allowed, so secure IMAP probably won't ever work, right? It doesn't bug me too much -- since it's Gmail, I can always just use the browser (now that I have EDGE, that is).
i had gmail pop setup and working a couple months back.. now i cannot get it to work either
The connection should be set to work under Tmo Data and work to internet under proxy - and to work as prefersed connection under the e-mail account.
if you go to google and your account settings there is a tutorial under imap settings that will have you reconfigure your email settings on your phone manually. it fixed mine immediately.

Problem in opening web pages

Hi all,
I have been using gprs on my touch since I bought it around 5 months ago.
Lately I am getting an error of Web Page not found using Internet Explorer.
Only if I restart the phone or re-run the gprs settings it connects properly. Sometimes it doesn't connect after doing the above steps also, so I have to just refrain from using it for a couple of hours.
I do not keep the gprs conn On continuously. I judiciously turn it off after my browsing is over.
Can anyone help me with this?
hi, try and use skyfire is freeware and better web browser
You might want to get in touch with your carrier and have them set up your gprs connection again. Perhaps something on their end is causing it.
Alternatively, as a suggestion....use opera....its a lot more stable. Check to see if your connection behaves the same way there too.

Tmobile HD2 Opera Browser Issues, Please Help.

So the last thing I remember doing before I found that my Opera Browser stopped working were these registry tweaks:
37. Boost Performance:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS
Change - CacheSize to 4096
39. Speed Up Web Page Loading Considerably
The following registry tweak will enable almost instantaneous web page loading in the web browser. It apparently enables wireless N mode but seems to work with cellular data too. Go to:
HKLM/Comm/BCMSDDHD1/Parms
11nModeDisable = Change from 1 to 0
And a few other little ones that have nothing to do with internet... Well now Opera will open up, but will not load any pages... The status bar just stays empty and the screen remains white. I have no idea if the registry changes had anything to do with it, but I just decided to change them back. Well that didn't work, so I went ahead and cleared the memory to just start over. That hasn't helped either. Any ideas? What was weird is that Skyfire ran fine, while Opera didn't... But now that I cleared my storage, I no longer have Skyfire, so I'm internet-less. Haha. And everything else updates properly, weather, time, facebook, and email...
I'm having the same issue, as well as with internet explorer. Internet explorer loading about 3/4 of the way and stops....and then nothing. I was simply browsing on opera when everything stopped working with the internet. I hope someone has a fix. Internet explorer AND Opera still work with wifi, just not 3G
Yea, same with me... Internet explorer and opera... Everything else is good! Im talking to tmobile now...
Yea, I just got done talking with T-Mobile, walked me through everything including a master reset and it still doesn't work. So now I have to return the phone, but that's not until next wednesday when they get more back in stock :/....
So I got it to work... You have to change the APN to WAP.VOICESTREAM.COM... Well where I am anyway, Phoenix, AZ...
And I just spoke with HTC. They had me manually enter the internet connections, still didn't solve the probleml. Looks like I'll just have to wait till Wednesday.
I have had the same issue all day with both Opera and IE. I as well was on the phone with CC for about an hour this morning...we tried everything but a master reset, she sent me to the store to try a new sim card...that did not work either.
I wonder what is going on?
...I am going to try the wap.voicestream.com APN to see what that does, I thought I tried this morning before I even called...but I have done so many things that I do not remember.
My internet was running fine yesterday and I have not installed anything new since then.
_______________________________________________________________
***Holy $h!t...wap.voicestream.com works now***
Settings > Wireless Controls > Data Connection > Manage Existing Connections > Edit "T-Mobile Data" > Next > Enter "wap.voicestream.com" under "Access point name" > Next > finish
Toggle your data data connection...should be up and running again (at least I am in Opera)
Thanks!! Worked perfect. Now I like the phone again. Yea, I'm in phx too
T-Mobile HD2 on WindMobile
I have the same issue with windmobile.ca
The browsers (IE and Opera) both stop at about 3/4 way through loading when using data connection.
There is no problem when using WiFi eg can browse any website.
I have setup the data connection scores of times and confirmed it with WindMobile support. It appears to be an issue with T-Mobile HD2.
Anyone else had this issue on Wind Mobile, and more importantly, resolved it?
Is there perhaps some T-Mobile ROM peculiarity that is cause of this issue?
EDIT to add: After some more searching it appears that it was Wind Mobile who forgot to turn on my data on their system. So even though Infinite Data appeared in My Account (on website and in store) there was still something else to turn on. Tech rep realised that there was a setting not applied. If you are running into problems, ask them to go into Features and make sure that Mobile Internet is enabled. Worked perfectly after rebooting phone.
both those tweaks are hit and miss..... I wouldn't recommend that anyone uses no 37, some people have reported serious problems after using it.....
