WM Browsers for the Shift??? - Shift General

What is the best browser for SnapView/WM on the Shift. Explorer is ok but there are a lot better mobile browsers out there. Has anyone been able to try the new Skyfire browser on the Shift? I have it on my treo 750 and love it. Just looking for something better than explorer. Any links or cab files would be appreciated.

I use Opera.

Wait for Skyfire... I think it is going to blow them all away from what I have seen since it went beta.

opera mini 4.1 beta....

opera mobile 9.5 is best even though it's beta

I have heard great things about opera mini 4 but I have not tried it yet. I have tried older versions of opera and the one that came with the HTC Advantage but have not been overly impressed with those. Except for the opera on the X7501 I have only tried these on my Treo (Opera and Skyfire)

remove Opera 9.5
Hi,
I have installed Opera 9.5 and it needs lots of space and crashes because it needs too much while working.
Now it seems to have installed files all over the place. Probably it will not delete all the files when I remove it.
Is there any method to find all the files it has installed to delete them manually?
It needs much too much space.
Space: In the windows folder there is a bis file called "provision.zip". Can I delete it? Or is it needed?
Are there any other big files which can be deleted?
How big is Skyfire, can it be used in Europe (Germany)?
Thanks!

Hi Danielherrero,
The Shift doesn't come with a Java Midlet manager. Which Midlet manager did you install and where did you get it from please?
Thanks!

opera 9.5 will be best for vga. the newer versions not available to the public are really good on the vga devices.

Its nice but It needs much memory to run. After surfing some webs the memory decreases to 2 MB and then Opera is closed
and INstalled over Real VGA makes the icons extra extra extra big. I will wait for a more stable version....

Hi,
same experience as Daniel. Crash after some surfing. Files all over the place, and in the registry the ghosts of the deinstalled programme. A mess! Needs about 8 MB memory.

What browser to use

Hi all
Got my first windows phone and was wondering what browsers you are using with it ?
Thanks
Robert
IE, the built in one. Works fine for me. Only thing that'll make me switch is if Firefox is realeased for WM Wouldn't that be great? Oh and throw in Thunderbird too and It'll be the best!
I hear Opera is very good for mobile devices.

Thanks tried it for an hour now and I'm loving it!!! (writing this with it ) Nice!
Opera Mini is amazingly fast. The fastest browser I've ever used. Too bad it need to run in java so entering text there's no autocomplete.
ThunderHawk is the most similar to a desktop browser and somehow their technology manages to fit about twice as much of a page on screen while still being legible. You pay a subscription of about 5 dollars a month, but after being away recently and having to use the PDA browsers a lot I was getting a headache using Pocket IE and Minimo, and the only browser which didnt make me claustrophobic was ThunderHawk.
They really should do a trial version of thunderhawk, because i dont believe many people would want to pay them before trial so its a very bad business model.
The problems with ThunderHawk are that it tries to usurp your operating system and it isnt like a normal PPC program. So, for simple short tasks I still use Pocket IE since it is less regimental.
I found Minimo to be pointless, Opera bloated, Netfront was ok, but pricey for not much advantage over an expanded PIE.

Opera Mobile 9.0.33 QVGA from SD card

Here is a lil something that i created today
It is the beta version of Opera 9 which is configured mostly to run from the SD card. The SD card should be named "Storage Card" in order to work correctly, because the cab paths are hardcoded to use that name. I have UPX-ed Opera9.exe from 6 to 2 MB so it take less space.
Download Here
thank you xplode
have you managed to change your broken ba screen?
I have a good screen with a bad ribbon cable...if you have the tecnology to put your ridbow cable in my screen.. I offer it to you Xplod
I had the same problem, i have perfectly working screen with some cracked tracks on the cable. I ordered new screen and now have it, and it works

Opera Mobile is full and independent browser whereas Opera Mini works through Opera Server to deliver the content. As per my experience Opera Brosers are the best available today.

New Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta and T9 Keyboard

My addition to this community.
Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta just released today. Almost like a real browser, only thing missing is Flash still. This is not the Opera mini.
http://www.mediafire.com/?teydzy2ztjj
HTC Atom Phonepad with T9, a virtual on screen keyboard that looks like a phone pad with T9. You can type with your finger with the bigger buttons. Very very nice. I forget what these are called but if someone can reply with HTC Atom Phonepad with T9 and the name for these virtual keyboards so this can be found in searches.

Let me know what you think!
anyone try this out on their wing yet? it is a beta..
Opera Mobile
9.5's been out for a while. It works well on the wing, blows PIE away on large pages, almost as fast as mini. But it installs to your \Windows folder and will not work off the storage card. It doesn't allow predictive text, it takes up about 6Mb of device memory, and 9Mb of ram. It's a good browser if you can spare the system resources.
Thanks for the phone pad, I'm trying it now.
I just wanted to give back to the community.
This is a new beta, beta 1 or something like that released today.
maybe this new beta of opera mobile is different, but i was able to install it to my sd card and it only took an extra 2mb from my storage.
Newer 9.51
This is 9.51b1 I had 9.5b1004. I'll load it up and test it out. Thanks for the update!
Do you know how we can set it up so that the Cache files etc are all on the SD Card too?
I installed it (I have t-mobile rom) on my sd card, and on the phone... the only issue I've run into so far is out of memory errors.
I've run the 6mb mem pool size mod and font/file cache mods on my phone and have resco mod and batterystatus mod w/vista theme.
any ideas?
Anybody knows how you can enable Active X,To view sites correctly Flash? their website says that it is disabled.

I don't know if this is ActiveX or a windows media plugin, but if you have a newer HTC device with Opera preinstalled (such as touch pro) and visit pages with a WMP embedded in them, it WORKS! However the one thing I can't figure out is how they did it because a stock Opera mobile beta does not work with WMP embedded at all on my Treo 700wx

Skyfire does, but i cant get it to connect using the proxy, only through wifi

Web browser

What web browsers you'll recommend apart from Opera Mobile/Mini, NetFront, IE, SkyFire?
I'm just interested and wan't to try some of the others that will be good .
And I'll add this question here: IE works fine with SPB Phone Suite or it slows it and takes more RAM?
Opera Mobile
Is there any other?
Tried various options, the only stand out browsers were Opera (not mini) and Picsel. The rest do the job, but whether they are convenient to run or have features either of the two offer is what makes me go back to the choices mentioned.
What about having Opera Mobile 10 beta on our Unis!!
I´ll do my test

Well Fennec is not going to run if you have a 64mb uni... as it needs more ram and look at the install size 20mb +.....
well there are other browsers.... like Bolt (which says it is fast),UCWEB, ibisbrowser, Dorothy Browser (webkit based browser) and Irish.

Not a memory hog like earlier builds and not one crash after extensive use.

why dont you chefs use opera mini its faster

why dont you chefs use opera mini ...its 10 times faster than opera 10...
I'm guessing the main reason is that the rendering isn't as good and it doesn't support plugins, since the pages are compressed and rendered through Opera's servers. In addition, the native version of Opera Mini has only been out for around a week. Besides, you can always install it yourself, so it's not even that big a deal.

Agree with that, opera mini might be faster but it doesn't provide a complete web experience. Mini doesn't support either flash or interactive sites, like JavaScript based ones. I personally would prefer Opera Mobile 10 beta v2 and, for flash, v3. Even if it consumes memory space like nothing else

That may not be flash, it could be the Streaming Media Program playing the video for you.
