I have a lot of problems with 3G switching on and off, and I have to boot to get connected again. Can I somehow switch it off, perhaps by editing registry? Have had several hard resets without any change. Edge is sufficient for me. I have an Artemis which is stable with Edge, but I had earlier on a couple of Nokias with the same problem.

You can switch off 3G in Settings/Phone/Band (don't know exactly how it is called, I have German menues) set it to GSM.
Cheers,
Derek.
If I do so, will Edge be active?
By the way. Viele danke

Yes, EDGE will be available without 3G. EDGE is an advanced 2G feature,
not 3G. You will see an EDGE connection with the white "E" in the top bar.

I'm having slow GPRS connection in PDA2k, so I decided to go with K-JAM because of EDGE connection. Does the edge connection sometimes get slow or it is always fast?
Ok, about the processor of K-JAM, is it good enough like PDA2k or slower?
Finally, What do you advise me, to stay with PDA2k or buy K-JAM?
Thank you
I have both; and while the PDA2k has a faster processor, it can sometimes get bogged down doing Phone related stuff and appear to freeze. The K-JAM has a dual core processor, with one core dedicated to the phone, and I have yet to see the device freeze. However, it does slow down occasionally, though not often.
The radio is better on the K-JAM. In nearly 6 weeks, its only dropped 2 calls. That's all... just 2.
Edge is much faster than GPRS, so you will see some improvement, but its going to depend on signal strength, and you won't have any visible indication from the device that you're using Edge. The connection will just appear faster. As long as you have a strong cell signal, you should be able to get on the Edge network (if the network supports Edge). And yes, there are times when it does appear slow. A soft reset usually makes the device pick back up the speed it appears to have lost.
Having both devices as I do, I find that both are acceptable for my needs; but I like the size of the K-JAM better, prefer the way the keyboard slides out (its actually on tracks and locks in place, vs. the PDA2k), and prefer the size of the K-JAM keyboard keys over those of the PDA2k.
I'll still use the PDA2k occassionally, but will be using the K-JAM as my daily driver from now on.
Thank you Mr. Christopher Spera for your advice. I will buy a new K-JAM and I'll compare it with pda2k and share the results.

If you're able to connect by EDGE please try to chanche EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon value in HKLM\Drivers\BuilIn\RIL, it's very interesting...
You're right Christopher. Yesterday I bought kjam and my service provider supports edge. The internet speed was very good. I got around 12Kb/s downloading speed. Before, when I was using PDA2K I got only 2.5 kb/s and sometimes the page can't load.

My K-JAM does not have this registry key, so i'm not certain what to change...
After adding the key I got the connecting GPRS icon with static arrow instead the moving arrows (as seen during connecting phase). The G was gone. Does it mean you get the G only when you are using GPRS and the other icon while on EDGE network?

This value must be DWORD type. It equals 0 by default, I tried to change it to 1. Unfortunately nothing changed, I got the same G with static arrows. I guess it's because my operator doesn't provide EDGE. I hoped someone gets different...
I was wondering, since the universal is the only other htc phone to do UMTS right now. Does the regular edge/gprs icon reg hack work? If not, has anyone figured a way for it to happen? Thanks.

urrm? the universal does it out of the box, no hack needed.... i get U for umts and G for gprs
But do you get an E for edge? On the wizard there is a registry hack to make the universal display a G for GPRS and an E for EDGE.

Hi!
Is it any software, hacks or possible to make a program where user can force the device to use GPRS instead of EDGE on Windows Mobile ?

No it can't - only GSM/GPRS/EDGE vs UMTS/3G (I think)
Any reason you would want to do this?
Hi Knocksock!
Did you find a way to handle this?

A person is using a phone and software (well, it could be just a web-page) which connects to internet. He says GPRS is faster than EDGE due to bad signals when EDGE is used. Thats what they say, so I thought I should help out on this

No, I haven't Any ideas ?
Not really, I´ve been looking for it quite a while but I´m sure there must be a registry entry that links to the EDGE interface. My problem is that the device iPaq 6915 stopps data transfer when connected to EDGE.

After doing a Hard Flash for the first time from 1.43 to 148 and rebooting my HD2. Within several minutes my reception speed would change from 3G to GPRS and back again while on the go, this has never happen before and was wondering is there a way to have consistent 3G speed/reception or was there a fault during my flash?
Any suggestions or help would most helpful.
HD2 on T-Mobile UK.

Did you flash with SSPL / Gold card or with the HDSPL in-tacked?
EITHER WAY:
Press Phone Key>Options>GSM/UMTS Services:
Here select Band....then, "Get Settings"
The first tab should say GSM. Drop down menu option you want is WCDMA. This will force 3G all the time. However I don't recommend this setting as this will consume more battery.
Leaving it in 2G saves more battery and voice quality doesn't change....
hi,
maybe you flashed the radio part of the rom also, when you flash from 1.43 to 1.48?. im not sure, but you should check out this htc update, and try it. its a replacement for the radio portion of your rom only, and maybe fixing your problems. my singnal strengh has stoped to swing between full and no bars, and i have full bars most of the time, with this update.
regards mad.

Stock Roms include the Radio so if there was a change between one stock and the other then a change will occur...
There is nothing wrong with the radio band switching automatically though so unless you have bad reception, everything should be fine.

Hi,
I just got myself a Omnia 7 and since I live in area where 3G signal is very low, phone constantly searching for 3G and also keep switching from 3G to 2G.
Needless to say that kills battery life and also have influence on drop calls and call quality.
Anyway, I don't need 3G when I'm at home. I use wireless for internet and mail.
Funny thing, Omnia 7 doesn't have 3G switch like some other WP7 phones.
Is there any other solution to switch off 3G??
I tried MarketPlace and didn't found nothing!
Any registry tweak or something??
Maybe firmware with that option.
Hey,
If you go into settings->mobile network and scroll down you can turn off 3g with the slider
Geee... If only that exist on Omnia 7.
There is no such switch.
I tried Samsung tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497
That does show switch for 3G, but still does nothing.... 3G is still on.

Some ROMs have the switch enabled by default (i.e. the t-mobile ones) some others do not.
What you have mentioned is interesting. If the switch is not working for you then please mention your concerns in the "Samsungs Tools" post and the creator might be able to fix the issue.
This would also help other people in the future!
An alternative way to switch on 2g is to follow the method Niiceg suggested.
