So I backed up my phone after I found it wouldn't sync to save my contacts and all. Bricked my phone, got a replacement. NOW THE PROBLEM is that when I restore, my device lock comes up but the code (which I remember) doesn't work.
Is there a file I can NOT restore so I can get the contacts and rest back?
Man I miss my Treo, Palm Desktop was beautiful. Microsoft SUCKS
Oops. You're going through something which I too have been through. But,now there is a solution. Run that backup file exe. Go to 'tools'(right soft key)//advance options//tick 'dont restrore password'
Do tell me if u r successful in getting ur stuff back
PS: was going to sleep and posted this via wifi. really felt that u r in trouble

Ok, see once I run it, turn the phone on, the device lock comes up and I'm stuck. The only options it gives is to cancel. How many times can I put this thing back to factory settings before I brick it? Walk me through this like I'm stupid! LOL I thank you for responding, seriously!
After I this, I gotta do the memory increase... grrrr

You wont be bricking the phone that way at all Do a forced hardreset(both softkeys+softreset button)
Now, follow these steps
1)click on the backup exe file
2)go to tools>dont restore password
3)also uncheck stop all processes
4)dont go in for 'full backup'. Do a custom restore and select only PIM and my documents from it.
you can always install the programs after that because IMHO the PIM data is far more important
keep us updated
THANK YOU!!!!

Chick be dying without them numbers ya dig? Oh my calendar. I will be back this up to my storage card EVERY WEEK or day if need be, cause this was so wrong.

However i tried to backup my stuffs using spb backup, and i chose full restore(which including system setting may be) and since then my phone just wont boot up, only 1 screen showing smart mobility is appearing constantly. Do this have anything to do with me flashing the phone? And what are the solutions can i try? Thanks a lot

SPB backup doesnt let you upgrade/downgrade between ROMs. To be on the safe side, just restore PIM+my documents after ROM upgrade.
Follow the steps exactly the same way I've listed in my previous post
thanks for ur reply, i hard reset my phone and luckily it is starting to boot up and this time i din restore the system back up and now my phone is working fine. Thanks again.

When I was setting up the WM6 release on my Blue Angel (SX66), I entered a pin (1994) for the device. I reset the device, and it gave me a dialog that said "Password" as the header, and the box had "Emergency phone calls can be made." It also had a keypad with CLR and 0 as the bottom row. The bottom buttons are Unlock and Menu. The password 1994 when typed in doesn't work. It gives me my hint, but the password still doesn't work. I've hard reset it to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I've tried hard reset, it didn't work. I'm just going to re-flash the ROM.
hard reset should work. did you perform the no/yes/yes routine (part of the hard reset procedure)?
Got it working - turned out I just needed to perform the N/y/y procedure - thanks everyone!

In WM5/WM6 the N/Y/Y procedure is the actual hard reset in WM2003 it is Power+Reset buttons at the same time

I have the same problem WM6) on the Siemens SX66 from Cingular, how do I execute the n/y/y procedure ???
HARDRESET 101
Steps...
1. SoftReset
2. When the three color stripes(four including white) appear QUICKLY press and hold Record and Camera button.
3. If a menu appears... (if not softreset again while holding Record+Camera)
use Record To NAVIGATE the three items and Camera to TOGGLE Yes/No
4. Press Mail button to Execute the Instructions.
NOTES:
------------------------------------------------
if you're upgrading/changing ROM then USE... No/Yes/Yes
these will format the storage and replace them with the new ROM files
------------------------------------------------
if you only want to only erase the password USE... No/Yes/No
these will keep your files. only the registry is cleaned.
Please help

because your mail button isnt working you havent actually executed the procedure...
you could try the MTTY Alternative of hard reset/ i dont know about your data if it is safe with that alternative.
i havent had any experience or need to use it.
But I KNOW that the solution to your problem is SOMEWHERE in this BA forum.

i dont think it's a bug. if it is it should be eliminated as early as the 2nd ROM release.
it's a hardware compatibility in which, no one yet has found a fix.
if you want your data to be safe, the only workaround with this is not to activate the phone's password and/or find an alternative third party phone locker with password feature at bootup.
have a nice day!
my phone was working fine yesterday morning. a install some apps like rom manager, titanium backup and z4root. I rooted my phone and then derooted it. now i`m not able to make or receive calls. whenever I make call phone struck at black screen with notification bar and restarts.
please give quick fix (I have stock rom 2.2.1)
Try to see the APN if they are correctly configured. if that dont work, try to reflash with the stock rom...
have u made a recovery? if yes then great otherwise the last option is always there - installing fresh rom though boot manager .
I have already done the hard reset and haven't created backup. I dont know how to flash fresh rom please give information or link.

To do anything your going to need root, if you look in the General section there will be multiple threads on rooting using Odin.

Sadly unless by pure luck there's a backup copy of your EFS folder saved to the device/sd card there's nothing I know of that can fix this other than sending it to a service centre.

I clicked on "backup EFS". The phone reboots straight away. (I thought it was maybe normal).
I clicked on "backup NVRAM". The phone reboots again.
Actually, since that, my phone is almost dead. I could boot but after a few second I got a reboot. --> bootloop.
I did a hard reset via the Android recovery. I reflashed my VEGA ROM (packed with the other missing files from the original stock ROM, so I guess it's full wipe anyway).
I did it many times. Nothing changed. On the top of that I can not access to my WIFI, 3G, on voice (SIM NOT FOUND).
I don't know what to do anymore. I have a MI7 rooter 0x0 phone and I would like to keep it so!!
Please help me since I just bought that phone and spent all the day before to manage the URDLV properly.

Your EFS is corrupted by the sounds of it, can you check settings > general > about device and see if your baseband says "Unknown"? If so then...
Only guarantee to unbrick and get your baseband back properly (without EFS back up) is using a custom recovery (tripping KNOX) and using This - used it myself and it does work - But it only works on the N9005
Aside from that, I'm not 100% sure myself without an EFS backup as to how to fix..Good luck

Thank you. Yes, I know that tip but, before making that step, I want to be sure this is only the EFS :
That's the thing! I can't use my phone and access to the menu "state of the phone". It always reboots before. I have also a error message telling "the process SYSTEM doesn't respond. Do you want to terminate it ?" And most of my softs just crash, even contact. I can't dial on my phone!!
Can we say it's only a EFS problem ? In which proportion the soft I used would have damage my phone ??
Thanks

I was messing around with custom kernels, constant rebooting every 60seconds. Managed to check my baseband which said unknown, so went into TWRP and flashed the EFS fix and it booted straight up, baseband back, 3G signal etc
The good thing would be to get an adaptation of this script for Odin !!
i had the efs issue yesterday, exactly as described.
was playing with custom kernels, phone suddenly rebooted and baseband was gone.
i restored mine from a twrp backup.

Unless we learn more about what that program was trying to do (presumably from the author of the program?) the only other FACT that we know is that writing a custom recovery is GUARANTEED to trip your knox flag; just writing your original Samsung ROM has a good chance to NOT trip knox; if you apply the first then you can never try the 2nd and keep knox, while if you apply the 2nd method and it does not work you still can use the 2nd or something else.

To have some script that can be written in Odin would be nice - as long as it does not trip knox. Something which might be a little more complex than it sounds.
Well Asansam can do it with just a rooted device, no need for custom recovery.
So find one with an Asansam box, and just run the "Restore PB" command.

No I'm sure we're all aware that there are quite a few issues with Wifi not working on S4 with certain ROMs/Kernels/Modems etc etc.
Now I've tried so many ROMs stock & custom, loads of different Modems, an assortment of Kernels and many tricks/hacks to try and get it working but nothing.... absolutely nothing.
I'm currently on ParanoidAndroid 3.99-RC2 27/12/13. Wifi obviously won't switch on, it can't seem to even find the MAC address even though the file is there to be read from and I can view it as a text document. Even more strange is that under the '/Data/misc/wifi/' folder, all that is in there is one file called 'softap.conf' and a folder called 'sockets'. Now I haven't actually deleted the 'wpa_supplicants.conf' file, it was just never created, along with the rest of the contents for that folder. Unless what I read about Symlinks the other day meant that the actual working folder has changed recently.
But list of things I have tried:
Deleting .cid.info file
Deleting wpa_supplicant.conf file
Editing build proper 'Ro.secure.storage=false' attribute
Doing the SQlite trick
Pulling the battery whilst it's on
Using programs like Wifi Fixer - they just tell me my wifi is stuck
Using *#0011# to turn off power saving
Selecting the Wifi Region Code
Unticking Wifi Optimisation
Changing Wifi during sleep action
Using *#*#4696#*#*, It states "Configured Networks: Disabled", "Wifi State: Disabled" and "Supplicant Sate: UNITIALIZED"
More testing:
Different Modems
Different Kernels
Different ROMs
Different Wifi-Fixes
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated or any addition tricks to try that may help.

I stated that I was on a custom ROM in my opening post... Equally I stated that it didn't matter what ROM I used it didn't work on any of them, from complete stock ROMs to AOSP and Google.
Flashing stock ROM now so that I can test those codes.

1- Turn off ur phone. Go to DOWNLOAD MODE and Flash THIS (unrar it before) in Odin as PHONE/CP!!
2- When u finish the process ur phone will reboot
3- Try if u have WIFI. If not make a factory reset:
- Make a Internal Memory backup
- From your home screen press the apps icon in the lower right corner.
- Find and press the settings icon.
- In the upper end of the screen press the accounts tab.
- In the bottom of the next screen press the Backup and reset button.
- Press the factory data reset.
- Read the info on your cell phone screen and hit Reset device.
Unfortunately after going back to the stock ROM, I have tried both, I did the Wifi-Fix again, just to humour myself, but it didn't work. Though since going back to Stock ROM it is able to find the MAC address, which it wasn't doing on AOSP ROMs. Short of rooting the device again and fiddling with files I don't know what else I can try on completely Stock to make it work
