I am having a hard time setting up my AOL account with the mail app. I set the account up fine but it says it cant connect for an unknown reason. Can someone verify the working server, WAP, and all AT&T settings that work please!
The wap settings i used are as follows:
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access Point Name: isp.cingular
User Name: [email protected]
Password: cingular1
Domain: (*Blank*)
Then just select finish.
OR
You can also just select Connection Setup and it does it for you byitself.
can you verify that it works with AOL, it appears all of those settings are already on my phone but I still cant get my email?
with aol email? or to access aol website? if its for aol email you have to setup a IMAP account not a POP account i've attached a link i guess its a different address depending on where you account is from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA010936921033.aspx
for US i believe its just imap.aol.com
sorry can't test it since i don't have an aol account also make sure you take note that aol uses port 587 unlike most other imap accounts which are on 25

I have had no trouble sending and receiving e-mail when I am connected to the servers of my ISP. That is, dial-in ISP, to which I connect via cell phone, where the pop server and the smtp server belong to the ISP where I also have my e-mail account.
The moment I connect via GPRS, all I can do is download my e-mail. When I try to send, I get all sorts of error messages stating that the servers could not resolve the recipients' names. Is there a way around this? :?: Do I need to specify a proxy. How does anyone else connect via GPS and send e-mail from their regular ISP POP account?
i have the same problem
so far i've used the workaround which is
that my isp (which is not my cellphone gprs isp but my cable isp)
have a www mail gateway so i can use IE to login to that and send my mails that way
Yeah! I do that, but when I reach the web mail page and try to click open an e-mail, nothing happens. So that is a dead end for me! There has to be a way around the SMTP issue. We'll figure it out!
Hi
Are you using the smtp address of your pop3 provider or your gprs provider?
My xda ii is connected via an orange uk sim and i use it to both send and receive email from my o2 and blueyonder accounts. In order to send from these accounts i have to use the smtp address of orange ie smtp.orange.net rather than the smtp addresses of my pop3 providers.
Hope this helps
Chris
Indeed it would help if I only had a means to find out the smtp server for my cell phone service provider. Believe me, I've tried and no one ate Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) has a clue as to what I am talking about. I tried smtp.tim.br and smtp.tim.com.br but neither worked
Any clues...?
try something like relay.tim.it or they should have some data support.
According to an NSLOOKUP against their domain name, their primary mailserver is smtp1.tim.com.br - try that.
Fork.
Hi everyone!
Fidlling with the smtp settings, I finally found out how to send mail over a GPRS connection using your ISP's pop mail account.
Everyboy, when set up an account, must fill in the pop.ispserver.com and the smtp.ispserver.com. It so happens that using the GPRS smtp (those who have one) or using pop relay, is trcky and does NOT work! The solution is:
1. Goto Inbox
1.1. Select Accounts
2. Select the account you want to edit (presumably the account you been able to download e-mail but didn`t allow you to send e-mail)
3. Enter you POP mail e-mail address (step 1/4)
4. Enter user info (name, user and password) (step 2/4)
5. Enter account info (type is POP3 and name will be grayed) (step 3/4)
6. Server Information (step 4/4) critical step
- fill in your pop account info (pop.ispserver.com)
- fill in your smtp account info (smtp.ispserver.com)
- leave domain blank!
6.1. Click Options and don`t check anything! Goto step 2/3
6.2. Select (checkmark) outgoing e-mail server requires authentication
- Do NOT check Require SSL connection
- Select Only display messages from the last X days, if you want
Click NEXT and you are good to go!!!
It worked fine for me with TIM in Brazil and Cingular in the US! Some POP3 services don`t allow this kind of connection!
After setting up access to my Gmail account through the native email tool, when I do a send/receive, I get and error saying:
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings. etc..."
The only time I can do a successful send/receive is when my X1 is connected to my laptop - then I get all my emails. I have already appplied Windows Mobile 6.1 Hot Fix for Sending POP and IMAP E-mail.
I suspect some settings might be wrong - everything else is working fine. Am even getting 3G in SoCal using AT&T on MediatNet. My settings are as follows:
Access point name: wap.cingular
Domain: <blank>
Proxy Setting
Proxy Server: wireless.cingular.com
HTTP: wireless.cingular.com:80
WAP: <blank>
Secure WAP: <blank>
Socks: localhost:1080
Could anyone help? Thanks in advance.
almost certainly its because you are using a WAP connection.
I've never been able to use POP or SMTP on any phone through a WAP connection.
Try using the APN for cingular full internet
a quick google comes up with:-
APN: isp.cingular
User: [email protected]
Pass: CINGULAR1
but don't quote me, and you may need to check with cingular whether they need to change something their end to enable you to use that APN
Im pretty new to email on my phone but i had the same problem i.e. if i was on wireless i could get mail but if i connected via gprs i would get the same error, can not connect etc, i had to set up and new account with the same details as the account which would send and recieve via wirless and tell it to connect via t-mobile internet as there wasnt an auto option, so i now have two accounts for the same email one accesses via the internet and one via t-mobile internet, you can change this if you edit account setup.
Not sure if this is your problem or if i have read it wrong.
Hope this helps
Hi Masseur,
Thanks for the pointer. I did try but looks like it made no difference. Not sure what's wrong from my settings.
Anyone else has seen this? Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Folks,
Someone in another forum pointed me to the solution. As it turn out, gmail doesn't work off proxys with AT&T. The automatic setup for AT&T had the proxy checked. All was needed is to take out the proxy and just keep the http settings. Working now!
Can anyone tell me how to check hotmail in G1 expect to check it by browser?
Someone told me to use the Moxier Mail.
But What is the Sever for hotmail??
And Why my Brower cannot go to www.hotmail.com in these days...
any one can help me figure out these problem???Thanks a lot
www.hotmail.com works fine for me.
Try google searching hotmail and clicking on the first result?
i dont know why.....
but i just wanna know....is there any application to use hotmail like gmail??of course...it is free...
Try m.msn.com in the browser.
What you can do is what i have done, and it is change your passport account settings.
You change your location to a European country [for me i chose france] ( on your control panel on msn or what not)
And then on your phone,
with the e-mail application, you input your email and password and then click manual setup instead of next.
-------
choose pop3
use these settings,
username: [email protected]
password: yourpassword
pop3 server: pop3.live.com (ssl always port 995)
----------
once you pass the pop3 section you will get to the smtp section:
username: [email protected]
password: yourpassword
smtp server: smtp.live.com (port 25 [tls or none, you should test both])
then you should be good.
When setting and using wifi at home, or work your smtp will not work, which means if you try sending e-mails via WiFi your message might not be sent, (most ISP's block their port 25 from usage [for spam reasons] and more money for them too)
so for that same reason while in smtp you might not be successful if you are not using the phone's web.
Hope this made sense. But it works.
---
also you can use this anywhere on any device and computer which you want to set up pop3 access.
Just set it up in Email (the stock Android software). It gives a warning about Plus accounts, but it finalizes fine. I was on wifi when I set it up, I think it has issues when setting up on 3G/GPRS.
Everything works, incl. alerts and all..
try the steps i have posted here
they worked for me and others

How do i set up my yahoo email manually on The Dudes build.
Go to email app and add your acct.
For manual setup:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

If you don't have yahoo plus you can set it up for the free version of yahoo mail with these:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com (use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Im guess that maybe the client sends information about itself and yahoo is somehow rejecting it. Currently those settings dont work. Also smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com doesnt resolve, but smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com does.
these arent workin for me
Has anyone figured out why this only works via network and not WiFi?
nevermind.....

I'm on Rogers, so my guess is it will work with any carrier.
It's giving me the "Username or password incorrect. ()" error on Incoming settings and "Username or password incorrect. (AUTH PLAIN failed (535 authentication failed (#5.7.0)))" error on Outgoing settings. I double-checked that my credentials are good by signing off and re-logging to Yahoo mail. Just to note that I don't have Yahoo Plus.
Edit: Nevermind, it works. Apparently this doesn't work over Wifi, only over the mobile network. I knew there was a reason I ditched Yahoo in favor of GMail all those years ago!
worked for me on my at&t htc tytn. wm6.1
I needed to set the port numbers.
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com:25
Guys it keeps telling me username or password incorrect? i know they are correct?? i tried doing the manual setup and to no avail .. it used to work automatically before flashing to cm rom
EDIT seems that yahoo.com is down for me .. WTF owell will try tomorrow
Hi, I have atutorial in spanish with screenshots on My website if anyone is interested http://www.dgtallika.com/2009/07/como-usar-yahoo-mail-en-tu-g1-my-touch-hero/ and maybe for the non spanish speaking all images are in english so you can give it a try! Hope it helps
Try these settings:
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: [email protected]
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Note: if it doesn't work, then log onto ur yahoo account, then change the regional settings to Yahoo! Asia
It works great for me on wifi
the same thing kept happening to me after i put the cm rom on my mytouch. heres what i did and it finally worked
input the sign in info and select manual setup
choose the imap account
username:[email protected]
password:******
imap server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
port:143
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
port:25
This did it for me
I did not choose ssl but added ":465" to the smtp server
so to recap
plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com - incoming
plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 - outgoing
no ssl just authentication

Yahoo POP3 transfer needs one to have a premium account (paid account) which many of us don't have. I couldn't find much information on the forum so I decided to post the setting in case someone else is looking for similar details. Sorry if this has been previously discussed.
1) From Application menu click on Email
2) Click on left button(settings) and click Add account
3) After you are done putting you information for username and password in, click on Manual Setup
4) Click on IMAP
5) For IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com - Port: 143 leave the rest alone
6) For SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com - Port 587 leave the rest as they are.
7) Follow the steps per your preferences and you are done!
I hope I could help a bit.
Yahoo.com does that, Yahoo.(other country) will have pop3 access automatically.

Hi, I managed to sort out my yahoo mail. It is however for *@yahoo.co.uk
Note that I'm on the regular Yahoo mail, not Plus or anything paid. However I am on the new yahoo interface as opposed to classic.
1. Log into your yahoo mail and click on "options" on the far right area of your screen
2. Select "More Options..."
3. Click on "Pop and Forwarding" on the left menu
4. Ensure "Allow your Yahoo Mail to be POPed" is selected.
Ok now onto your phone settings (change yahoo.co.uk to *.com where applicable).
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (use authentication, optionally use port 587)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g. [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Hope it helps
