[APP REQUEST] Remap the Start Button - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Looking for one of our great developers here. Possibly to take on the task of
creating a new app. A program to remap the start button the one With the windows icon.
Everything under the start menu is most likely already loacted somewhere else.
Like your cube, quicklaunchers, shortcuts and so on.
Nothing under the start menu is finger friendly, like were trying to make the rest of our functions on our phones.
I tend not to use the start menu at all. It seems to be a waste of a softkey.
I hope there are others who might feel this way. And show some support so maybe someone might be interested in taking on this task.
Thanks so much, T M Z
P.S I posted this at ppcgeeks,But know takers..

AEButtonPlus allows you to remap start button.
Start menu becomes more finger friendly if you install Large-Start-Menu

your best bet is wisbar andvance or lite... by the time some freeware is released by a generous developer. days or weeks could pass. your best bet is to spend 5 to 10 bucks and get the two programs mentioned. I have mine mapped to mortbuttons... it allows for a much finger friendlier start menu with my own personalized shortcuts and submenus... the best part is it matches my theme and its very easy... hope that helps

The softkey start button on the screen with the start icon?

Thanks T M Z

ohhh... apologies!
Didn't realise you mean the softkey at the top left corner...
If so... wisbar advance will probably be the way to go
Or the new FTouchFlo (forgot the name of it... SLTouchFlo or something?) may be the way to go, since that allows you to remap the 4 corners of the screen

Mapping to OK and Win buttons

Noting that neither AEBPlus or DoubleLauncher seem able to access the OK and Win buttons, are there any other methods to assign an action to double or other states of these buttons? For example, it would be great if I could assign "close/kill" to a double OK click, or launch Resco Explorer with a double Win button click. Right now, only the Browser and Comm Manager buttons seem to be assignable, and press/hold for the Browser seems fixed to VueFlo. With AEBPlus, press/hold for the Comm Manager button shows up separately but can be assigned. I got really used to quick launch on my Wizard. I am finding iLauncher to be an OK sub in some measure, given that lots of icons can show on the VGA screen, but miss a quick double-tap to launch a frequently-used program...
yes same for me, if somebody have a way to map these keys ...
Why hasn't this ***hole been banned from the forum yet? Its been 27 posts of spam so far.
I've banned him and removed his messages. This my leave a "hole" where they used to be, so FYI to anyone else - ladysovereigna has been permanently banned for spamming.

Back to topic... anyone have an idea??
I think it can be done, bit I've never had an Athena to test it on. Will give it a go one day. Will have to get a rom dump and see how things have changed on the newer hardware.
Have you tried all the usual suspects, ie AE Button Plus?

No luck with AE Button Plus...
I haven't tried the Win-button, but I've mapped the Ok button to ViJayOKButt (much better ) using AEButton Plus.

How were you able to do that? I don't see that button.
The Win-button can be displayed as an option (via Add Buttons menu). However, the new assignments don't seem to work.
The new assignment works. I select File -> Add Button, and click the OK-button. The code "4075" shows up, and I click the "Add Button" button p).
From my experience you can map the 'OK' button but mapping on this hardware key seems to be limited and no mapping to the 'Windows' key.
IRC the developers of AEbutton informed me that MS have reserved those buttons strictly for O/S use and that AE hadn't found a way around it yet...that was over a year ago, but it seems they have made no real progress in this area except for a little with the 'OK' button.
I believe Vijay is right though...it can be done...just takes someone really dedicated to finding the solution.
Bear in mind though that most PPC's have more buttons than the Athena...hence the reason why AE haven't 'possibly' done their best to resolve this, or maybe it causes to many problems..who knows?
I've done it before on other devices, some time back, but will have to investigate Athena at some point. Can anyone point me at a freely available rom file for it? I've never even seen the hardware..

I tried this, and "OK" did not show as an option. But one of the other buttons I added ended up with code 4075, and this now works. There is also an option for "Win" button but that doesn't work at all.
i have both of mine binded using ae button plus
what you do is instead of trying to select the button you hit add button and push the button you would like to bind

Hi Vijay.
Fellow member Antivirus has some good internal photos of the hardware and I think some other good info on the Ameo try this link. Antivirus.
lol, thanks mackaby007, but I don't need to see inside the device itself, just its rom. Although I would need to test on the device itself.
Anyway, just theoretical for now, need to see a rom.

Want a Challenge? I need a program created! I will pay $$$$

I know this is possible since HTC Managed to do it with their Large Start Bar and Quick Menu also has similar functionality.
What I would like is a program that would allow you to replace the start button with the ability to launch a specific program. I like SPB Mobile Shell and I want the SPB Menu attached to the start above.
Ideally like Quickmenu I would like two options. I would like a specific program to start when you press the start button and also a different program (or action) to run when you press and hold the start button.
Let me know if you would like to try and tackle this project!
Try WA3
Buy wisbar advanced then, it will do just that, but it cannot help with a drop down spb menu,
used WA for a while but it caused problems with my Touch. I don't want to run a full blown skinning program just to do this one feature.
if you mean the hardware button, you can use AEButtonPlus to do all that
No, I meant the soft start button on the top left hand corner of the screen.

This can be done by Quickmenu already (activating an app by pressing and holding the soft start "button"), but I wonder how the system menu can be open if an assigned program being activated by a single tap of the "start"[email protected][email protected]??
Anyway, you might like to contact nanling, the author of quickmenu, to make your dream come true quicker^^" (check the quickmenu's thread in this forum and you'll find his website)
Changing button options and adding "press & hold" function can be dont with SPB Pocket Plus.

I installed quickmenu and saw that you could change the options but I couldn't find a way to set it to a specific program. I also emailed nanling and didn't get a response. I also (unless I read the date wrong) see that he hasn't been online for quite some time.

REQUEST: For a power manager.

Hey all you guys at XDA Developers! There's an awful lot of you that have created some awsome apps! I have usued alots of them, and really enjoyed them. I was hoping that someone would want to take on this project. I'm hoping someone could create an app to have a dual purpose button to take the place of the start button icon in to top left corner. I'd like to be able to push the button once to put the device into sleep mode. The second would be to hold the button down for a second or so for soft reset. I thought on the soft reset a small screen could pop up saying "Do you want to soft reset yes or no?" Also, the button could have a couple of color choices to go with peoples themes. Like "sunny127" made the ariel battery to replace that symbol and not the complete start menu. It would also be nice if both options were on all screens. So if your listening to radio or playing music, you could turn the screen off or if the screen freezes on you, you can soft reset. This is somewhat similar to http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pocket-device-power-manager-v1-0.html this app. But it does not always go with everyones themes. And really not quite in the right place. Thanks for looking. I hope some one might be up for the task. Thanks for all that you guys have done. T M Z.
No one Maybe
I will pay? Some one to make this app. for me please...

Not a bad idea, personally what I'd like to see the most would be the restart functionality added to the power button.
Now if you're talking about a button on the screen which can put the system to sleep or implement a restart well, I'm not interested. I've got enough taking up my screen real estate. I do believe I've seen a small app for the sleep side of it though... might google it.
Thanks for the input.
No one at all.
I believe wisbar advance 3 by lakeridgesoftware.com does this. I have my clock mapped to soft reset, ect.

You can use the new FTouchFlo, it enables "corner" buttons. When tapped you can launch a program or do a system command, such as rotate screen, turn off, or whatever you want.

Do you have a link?
It's now called FTouchSL, it's not free, but it's totally worth it. You can also open apps (or do a command) with a simple swipe. Not to mention you can add smooth finger scrolling to any app with the flick-and-scroll feat.
Thanks. Ill take a look.
get the softreset executable from the PHM tools package (search), place it win \windows and assign it to the PTT key as hold. I prefer to use this for a sleep function, such as when listening to mediaplayer.

How to assign a hardkey to HTC Quick Menu (Task Manager)?

I like HTC Task Manager's feature, that enables the Quick Menu when pressing the X-button. But I would like to acces the Quick Menu with a hardkey.
Does anybody know how that can be done?
Give SPB Pocket Plus a try.

Yes, SPB Pocket Plus has the taskmanager like the Quick Menu. But the reason why I like the one from HTC - is because it is finger friendly.
I have tried the Touch Commander Suite - it has a great task manager (quick menu). But it is not that consistent in its performance - and it keeps closing down - and the only way to get it back is with soft reset. :-(
I thought he meant how to assign a hardware button ... use the button feature from Pocket Plus was my suggestion NOT the task mgr.
actually just coming in my head... do you mean HTC Action Screen. This works perfect with Pocket plus (I have it on long press PTT on my AT&T Tilt).

No, I mean the Quick Menu that you can see on the attachment.
Yes, I'm thinking about this too considering that HTC Task Manager is only available on the Today Screen. It would be nice to be able to access it while in other applications. So, I guess a hardware key mapping is the best solution. Anybody?
Pocket Plus has an "Alt-Tab" function which can be mapped to a hardware key. It'll open a window and either with the stylus or scroll wheel you select the task, press OK (or press the scroll wheel) and you are there.

If you only want to access that from today screen, HButton does a good job for that. I add the "OK/Close" function to one of the HButtons, and assign that to the "OK" button in the settings->buttons. This way I can use the "OK" button to close most of the running programs, and while in today screen, one hit on the "OK" button will bring up the list of programs in the picture you attached.

The problem with the Alt-Tab function is, that you are not able to close one (or all) of the programs - like you can with the Quick menu

You have to install HButton.
I use Handy Menu, not free though. 4.99 I think. It also gives you some other functions, and it is configurable. I have it mapped to long press camera button.
Quick Menu 2.7 does exactly that. All you have to do is tap the start menu. a list of programs running and an X to kill them.
Much quicker than looking for a way to edit taksmanager/Xbutton3(?)
Highly recomend it. I don't use anything else.
Also, you can cook it too:
Install the app; set up your options; export the registries; make a package from the cab (for dsm/rgu ); copy the contents of the reg export to the rgu using text editor. Package complete! now you can cook it and have your options be like you need them.... and there are so many!

I did, thanks wearefree for the tip. Use HButton, its OK/Close button handling is different from OS, so it makes exactly what we need. I mapped HW button 2 on my Wizard to HButton and it simulates OK/Close. When any app is in front it minimizes it and when I'm on today it shows HTC Quick Menu.

Two finger tap

I have this question (idea):
Isn't it going to be nice to have the Two Finger Tap as a "command" available all the time in Win Mobile? This way every time you do a Two Finger Tap it would act like pressing a hardware button and run a certain app.
It could run for instance SPB's AltTab application or any other. Or it can close/minimize the current window. Using a program like AE Button Plus you can assign various actions to it...
Two Finger Tap is working in Car Kit NaviPanel mode very well and is really useful there. Why not everywhere?
Has anybody heard about any possibility to make the Leo "understand" the Two Finger Taps?
you mean something like LMT Launcher?
