hi there,
is there any way to tell the pda that....
- it should first turn on wifi
- try to connect to internet
....AND if there's no access point available he can connect to
- connect to Internet via GPRS settings
i found some postings regarding this topic but nothing realy helped.
Regardless which program i use - it always connects via gprs if a internet-connection is essential.

Hi guy,
Now, I'am using XDA Neo with the latest dopod rom, and enjoy it very much.
I always connect the internet via WLAN at my home and sometime at hotspot in public.
I found a problem, when the signal of access point is low or none my neo try to connect GPRS automatically!!!
I don't want it to be connected and don't want to delete the GPRS setting cause sometime I wanna use it in somewhere that doesn't have a hotspot.
Is it possible to do it: when I surf the internet via WLAN no matter the signal low or none, the GPRS would not be connected?
Thanks guy
Hey, I don't know if this works for you but whenever I connect to the Internet via Wifi I turn off the phone function. I'm not sure if this is a solution for you because as you might be aware you can't receive calls anymore.
If there is a more eloquent solution to this I'd be very much interested too.

Click to collapse
Go Start>Settings Then connections tab
Click Connections Icon then the 'Advanced' button
Click 'Select Networks' then in the Top drop down selection boc " programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using'
change this to either 'My Isp' or 'My Work Network'
'My Isp' is what i use, as this has no connection set under it
then if you have no wifi access gprs can not connect
when you wish to use gprs do the above, except select whatever you connection was originally and gprs will work again
hey guys heres abit of unusal question? (to be honest i dont think any of us ask any usual questions )
anyway what im trying to do is find out if there is a way to force a pda when its trying to connect to the internet to first check if internet is avaible through active sync (cradle or usb cable) then to check if WIFI is avaible then if thats not avaible to use gprs - but to use gprs as a last resort.
so the way it will work is an application needs to connect to the internet it first is forced to check for a connection through active sync if thats not avaible then to see if there can be a wifi conenction established if that fails then to connect to gprs and in the order.
i was hoping i could find what scrpits are used when the connections are established and then make a script to run the will force the device to do this.
Or even if there is a reg edit that I can do that will allow me to get this done? (would regedits be possable for this)
Id appericate your thoughts on this guys?
That's how it does work, doesn't it? At least, that's how mine works...
mine tends to connect to whatever it was connected to first - e.g. if I have messenger open via GPRS and then connect to my WiFi network, it will still use the GPRS for it's internet connection. Even if I plug it into the PC, it still uses GPRS.
This can be costly.
I've tried most of the solutions/methods on this forum/net, but it just doesn't work!
I'm able to pair the device, start the PAN service and 'Intetnet Sharing' gets connected as well, PC gets an IP address, but I get no response when I ping or open a webpage.
On the phone end, I've tried with WM5, WM6, WM6.1 and even with WMWi iRouter. On the PC end, tried with 3 different XP/2003/Vista machines. I'm using BlueSoleil 6.2, but had no success with older or later versions either.
Internet Sharing over USB worked fine till my USB connector broke so BlueTooth/WiFi is my only option.
Can soneone help me out please?
if you want to teeth your gprs connection so your pc get internet that way
PAN is not the way to go
search for bluetooth AND modem
in the forums there are many guides how
it's setup
PAN is if you want your pda to get internet from your pc
Thanks for the reply. I tried Bluetooth DUN but it's too slow (115kbps) and keeps getting disconnected every 5 mins...
If Bluetooth PAN is for sharing PC net only, why then does it show up under 'Internet Sharing', and also shows the Cellular net option, as if it can connect the both, like it does for USB? If PAN isn't meant for sharing cell net, it shouldn't show the option, right?
I mean, it's not *impossible* right? We have a TCP/IP network established with all IPs properly assigned; only one device has net access; how hard or improbable can it be to share the net? There has to be a way! :|
Infact, even the inbuilt Help on Internet Sharing describes that cell net can be shared w/ the PC over bluetooth using 'Internet Sharing' and says nothing about connecting as a modem and the whole *99# thing. I was of the opinion that 'Internet Sharing' made that method obsolete...
- Disconnect everything
- Open internet sharing, select Bluetooth PAN, connect. IS should tell you "waiting for bluetooth connection".
- On the PC, connect to the PAN service on the phone. This must work, I've used it countless times.
If traffic doesn't go through, you probably have a proxy set on your device (happens with some network operators) that you need to disable for it to work.
^ That's exactly how I've been trying .. maybe it's because of BlueSoleil?
Which bluetooth stack are you using? I've been searching the local stores for a non-bluesoleil adapter but no luck so far
I'm using the Widcomm stack that came with my BT keyboard/mouse set. I think you can download it for free anyway...

Hi Kilrah, could u provide some details about how to disable proxy on the device .
I can connect but no internet traffic on my laptop .I am using vodafone live gprs on xda orbit .Thanks
Reflashed my Jade from UK Orange to JADEMAN rom recently...
Can anyone tell me how to force the phone to use Wifi to connect to the internet.
It connects via GPRS fine but i want to disable the GPRS DATA for travels abroad so I don't run up a huge data bill. I can stop the data with "NoData" app, but if I now try to connect to internet with Opera or Internet explorer if fails..
Is there something I am missing, to tell it either to connect via wifi before using GPRS data or to only connect via wifi. Do I need to create a connection ?
The create new connection page doesn't list using WiFi, bluetooth is the only "WIRELESS" type connection that appears to be offered.
Also when the wireless AP list is shown and I try to connect to an AP showing available that I have previously setup with WEP key etc, it fails to connect.
I am sure to be missing something but I can't spot what the problem is...
Any help appreciated.....
Phil

Hi guys!
I found a lot of programs to share the gprs conection via wifi (converting the hd on a hotspot) but I want to share not a gprs conection ,just the internet I get via usb activesync... I was not able to make this happen with any know program.
Someone know how this can be done?
"wmwifirouter" require a conection to be dialed/conected and don't take into account activesync one.
So in short you want to use your phone as a Wireless Access Point when connected to and accessing the Internet through the USB port of the computer?
I don't think it can be done, I don't think you can have WiFi and USB on at the same time.
EDIT: Just checked and it seems you can have both at the same time.
if u want to use the internet connection of your pc via wifi, u need no programs but i only have to configure properly the wifi network card on htc and enabling internet sharing on pc's wifi connection
Mustn't you rather activate the internet sharing on the phone ?
I am with the provider Orange in France.... and the internet sharing is normally forbidden. I would like to use the phone as a wifi access point without the usb.
Can Orange see that I have activated that internet sharing ?
I would also like to do this! Particularly at work. I can connect my phone to my work computer via activesync and check email etc. It would be great to be able to share this connection with my laptop via the "wm wifirouter" or another app. Please let us know if you discover a solution - I will also investigate.
