Fingerfriendly File-Manager? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

In the last few months we got nice fingerfriendly apps for playing music, pictures, calendar, contacts, but does anybody know a fingerfriendly filemanager?

Take a look at the SPB Mobile Shell: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?nl

Rhapsody, i installed SPB Mobile Shell 2 but when i want to navigate between my files, SPB opens the standard WM6 file-explorer. i like gsfinder but i dont think that this program is really finderfriendly. Are there any other tools?

HAve u take a look at GsFinder "VEry fingerfriendly" or the touched Total Commandar

ive used all the above mentioned, and for me, resco explorer is the best. it looks very neat and clean, especially if you hide the on screen shortcuts and use the large icon mode.
the best part about it, is allows a set layout for portrait and landscape. in landscape i have it set to small icons so that i can organize my file easier (i accomplish this by mapping my own shortcuts to copy, paste, etc. in the settings menu)
and then have it set for optimal finger friendlyness in portrait. i hope that helps.

Michaelr219, thank you i like resco explorer. unfortunately it isn`t very cheap. i think i will stay with gsfinder because its freeware.

yea, its just as effective. the only thing missing is the one button shortcuts and the ability to create a .ink to a specific folder.
thats why i originally got it... now i just use mortbuttons for this person. it can work as a very finger friendly explorer and its also free

no, the closest thing is probably the sliding left to right from page to page. if you are looking for my iphone style. try my theme. just search iStyle

Mortbuttons isn`t a touch version of total commander. it lists the files / folders into big icons that can be opened easily without a stylus.
You can find it here:
http://mort.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=mb_overview&action=view&menu=26
Michaelr219: I extracted the iStyle.zip but i cant find a mortbuttons skin-cab in it?

i wasnt referring to the skin for mortbuttons... i have one that will be included in my update. but the istyle is just a ppc theme itself for overall finger friendliness

Here u R , Noonski has made a "install to SD cabs" Thank u NOONSKI
Touched Total Commander V1.0

What is the difference from the normal version? I use 2.5 version with ftouch flo for finger scrolling and I didn't mention any difference.
My problem with total commander is that the buttons are too small and in uncomfortable positions for finger function(in the corners, like the keyboard or the up directory button).
Mortbuttons from the other side haven't any file manager options like copy, paste e.t.c.
So a finger friendly file manager will be a very usable application. Hope someone of great developers here make one.

New bar & custom programs?

To all PPC users:
Is there any way to add a custom apps shortcuts to a bottom "new bar"? I have WA2, but with WA2 you can customize just main bar (task bar)... And there is so many space next to BT and Screen Orientation icon..
Use this application:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/
It has something called TrayLaunch as a program- simply find the full path of the .exe or .lnk or whatever else and type it in.

There is a new program with WA2, called Wisbar Advance Destop, it's still free.
You can do almost everything with that new prog. (WAD)
so good luck

Yes i use to that as well but the longer i use the PPC the simplier i'm making it, the OS is not stable enough to pile on to many apps. I like things fast simply and able to get the info i need when i need it.
I have also cut down pocket plus to the minium apps.
Close Button:
The close (X) button really closes programs, task manager, etc
Pocket Internet Explorer:
Multiple windows, full screen mode, save as, view source, ...
File Explorer:
ZIP support, encryption, "Folder Up" button, storage card format, file properties,
It also installs the Battery line Indicator
The CAB is approx 645KB instead off 3.733Mb

Anyone Know How To Add Progs To The "HTCHOMEPLUG"

Anyone know how? Thanks BTW, this is the today plugin that shows a few shortcuts (comm manager, battery, etc...) that htc provides on the newest rom that came on my trinity.
*bump*
Edit: Oh wait, I just realized what HTC Homeplug is... I withdraw my bump!

Yes this is possible
It is not pretty hard, but you need to change te register.
Open the register with a register editor (I use Resco register editor).
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHomeplug\.
You will find two maps (2, 3).
If you want to create a new shortcut add a new key (name it "4").
In the key you need to add:
a string LaunchApPath -> point this string to the program
a string ResPath -> point this to the program or dll that contains the icon
a dword iconindex -> some executable files and dll's contain serveral icons. The normal value is 0, but it depends on the exe/dll file.
Example for adding Internet Explorer button.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHomeplug\4]
"iconindex"=dword:00000000
"ResPath"="\\windows\\iexplore.exe"
"LaunchApPath"="\\windows\\iexplore.exe"
Good luck
Can anyone export and post the reg tree for the plugin along with the DLL its uses?
I would like to install this on my other devices.

Here are the files.
I don't know if the plugin uses more dll files.
Give it a try.
I add RegSvrCe.exe to register the dll if needed.
Good luck.
Excellent - Thanks
I will give this a go later and post back how I get on.
Can you also provide HTCICON.DLL from the windows dir?

I Agree, the only advantage is that you can use the plug-in with your scrollwheel. That is not possible with traylaunch.

What the guy means is that the scroll wheel moves between items in the HTC plug-in so it's easier to use with one hand.
EDIT: Ops I was wrong. Even with the HTC plug-in you need the joypad to move from one icon to another....

You're right, this wasn't possible on WM2003 .
In that case the HTCHomePlug is even more useless
The HTC plugin is easier to use with a finger... Traylaunch has to be activated with a stylus.

no, you can use scroll wheel to activate it and after choose application with dialpad not need stylus... HTC plugin use a lot of useful space in today =)
Thanks guys. I figured this out the other night and forgot I started this thread. Anyway, what I was trying to do is figure out how to add the "memory" shortcut to get straight to the task manager from that plugin and I finally figured it out. Thanks again
Care to share your method... if it's different from what's already posted.
It's the same...exactly. The only quirk was adding the memory app. I had to have the cpl shortcut....then it was the same.

Selecting mutiple files

In apps like File Explorer of Mail Inbox, is there a way to select multiple contiguous files? Dragging just scrolls the screen.

With emails you can do Menu, Select Messages and Several to allow you to toggle mutiple messages.
With file explorer, you can annoyingly only do it when the screen will not scroll (if you've got less files than it takes to fill the screen!)
I'd recommend using Total Commander instead of file explorer. It does the same thing (plus plenty more), and there's a 'Ctrl' button that functions like the ctrl button on a PC, for selecting multiple files 1 by 1.
Hope this helps

I like Resco too, probably more than Total Commander, but Resco isn't free. It is at first, and then certain functions stop working after a while. It annoyed the hell out of me when that happened!

Temporarily Deactivate Touch Scrolling?
It would be a nice utility or some kind of toggle that would temporarily turn off the touch flow scrolling so the default touch actions like selecting multiple list items could be used. Hmmm.

Selecting files in file manager

Hi how you select more than one file in the fine manager? I know if the files in a folder is less than the limit you need for scroll you can just drag and select them. But if there is scroll, i cant seem to select more than one file.
Additionally does anyone know of a keyboard that support the shift key? To select more than one file.
Cheers.

I would recommend using Total Commander... It not only allows you to change to a "single-click-mode" where you OPEN stuff with a double-tap and SELECT items with a single one, it also has it's own small "shift" and "ctrl" keys for selecting items! Also, it allows you to copy any file anywhere, even if inside the ROM!
total commander works well, or resco file manager. swype keyboard has a "select text"button that when toggled on and used with the arrows lets you select multiple files too.

AH.. i didn't know that there's the functionality in Total Commander. Cant seem to find the shift button in Total Commander though.
download an alternative SIP keyboard like happy tapping keyboard. their ctrl key works like the desktop one, allowing multiselect and cttl-c, ctrl-v also. hth.

The Shift button pops up when pressing ctrl first (see screenshot).
With touch screens like ours, you can select multiple files by swiping the icons rather than the text of the file names. This works in Resco/Windows file manager.

Pretty sure this is the case (with resco at least). Cant try this at the moment as I'm waiting for a replacement unit.
heh like waiting for a bus.I don't envy you that wait.
on the plus side,I can indeed confirm you are right, (at least in resco, the one I use) dragging down the list whilst on the icons does indeed select the files!
good find.

[Q] Folder based App Launcher

Looking for an application similar to HTC Folderview.exe or FingerFolderds
Would like it to be finger friendly and scrollable like Win 6.5 Start Menu.
Also to be able to drill down to sub folders.
Whatever files are in the folder these can be presented as launchable icons.

I have Resco File Explorer already installed and its not quite what I'm after. I was after something much simplier that behaves like a menu.
Try XTask; it does what you want. You can either use it as a start menu replacement (with Edit functions) or just use the file manager.

Not after replacing Start Menu but mimicing it. I want to be able to run this with a parameter passing a folder location. If I could perhaps figure out how Start Menu is launched and if its possible to have it open a different folder instead of \Windows\Start Menu\Programs then that would be fine.
If you love an iPhone stylish interface, you should give this a try:
