Selecting files in file manager - HD2 General

Hi how you select more than one file in the fine manager? I know if the files in a folder is less than the limit you need for scroll you can just drag and select them. But if there is scroll, i cant seem to select more than one file.
Additionally does anyone know of a keyboard that support the shift key? To select more than one file.
Cheers.

I would recommend using Total Commander... It not only allows you to change to a "single-click-mode" where you OPEN stuff with a double-tap and SELECT items with a single one, it also has it's own small "shift" and "ctrl" keys for selecting items! Also, it allows you to copy any file anywhere, even if inside the ROM!

total commander works well, or resco file manager. swype keyboard has a "select text"button that when toggled on and used with the arrows lets you select multiple files too.

AH.. i didn't know that there's the functionality in Total Commander. Cant seem to find the shift button in Total Commander though.

download an alternative SIP keyboard like happy tapping keyboard. their ctrl key works like the desktop one, allowing multiselect and cttl-c, ctrl-v also. hth.

The Shift button pops up when pressing ctrl first (see screenshot).

With touch screens like ours, you can select multiple files by swiping the icons rather than the text of the file names. This works in Resco/Windows file manager.

you sure about that? cant make it work here... well except when there is less than 1 page of files. I'd be most keen to see a video of that in action.

Pretty sure this is the case (with resco at least). Cant try this at the moment as I'm waiting for a replacement unit.

heh like waiting for a bus.I don't envy you that wait.
on the plus side,I can indeed confirm you are right, (at least in resco, the one I use) dragging down the list whilst on the icons does indeed select the files!
good find.

Mapping Start button directly to programs folder

Searched around for quite a while and couldn't find a solution to this, maybe someone with with more knowledge on resource hacking can help out.
Using the start menu on WM Professional devices is not conducive to single handed use, its actually quite cumbersome. I would like to remap the *on-screen* start button to simply open the programs folder ala WM Smartphone. Is this possible? I believe it would be much easier to manage on the go and would skip a step which is always beneficial. The only problem I could see is creating a link to "settings"
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Search for the application folderStartPgm.exe
And after from Settings -> Personal -> Buttons, assing the button to this application(firs must to make a shortcut points to \startmenu\programs folder
I've seen that before, and although very cool I would still like to remap the Start button and avoid an unnecessary step. Any other ideas?

cant find folderStartPgm.exe in windows folder ??!!
I don't know about mapping the Start button to bring up the applications folder, but using WA3 (or probably a registry tweak but I don't know it) you can remap the Start button to Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and have all of your applications displayed in the first drop-down menu rather than just 7. It also leaves access to Settings too...
Copy the attached file programs.lnk , to your \windows\start menu\programs , and use the buttons settings to bind the link to the program.lnk
---
To create a shortcut to a folder:
Use Total commander, browse to the location of which you want to make a shortcut, highlight the folder/file you want, from the File menu in Total Commander, choose >>>> on top , and then choose create short-cut, then save the output link to the \windows\start menu\programs.
---------------
Hope this helps

Sounds like a great alternative to the classic (limited) start menu, but I want it gone completely. It's too cumbersome for use in the car.
Anyone?

This is a great idea and rereading my post I can see how it may be slightly confusing, you see I want to change the Start menu button in the top left corner of the screen that opens the menu to directly open the programs folder. If anyone of you has used a windows mobile smartphone you know what I mean. That way all you have to do is tap the top left section of the screen and scroll to your app. no more tiny menu to hunt and peck on while trying to do important things like you know driving, or bike riding, etc...
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

It isn't in windows directory. Search in the forum or google to find it. After download, copy it to your device and make a shortcut for the program like explained above.

Me to has been looking for this. To make pressing the on screen windows icon pop up the programs folder, but one other problem, how to then access settings folder.
folderStartPgm.exe

for me the filename to start programsfolder is folderview.exe
just need a way to link it to the icon.
Good luck anyway
Try this program.
In search for a solution, you can maybe use "LargeStartmenu.cab". It makes the starmenu (and text in programs) larger. The version in the "Diamond Apps (OEM + CAB)" thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395400
works for my Touch
You can find folderStartPgm.exe here:

selecting files with the stylus - Ctrl and/or Shift functionality?

everyone knows how to select more than one file on a Windows PC (either hold shift or Ctrl whilst clicking your mouse). How in the heck do I do this in Total Commander on a Diamond???
Also, is there a way for the stylus to do a click&drag to select multiple files?
ugh, my apologies, this is probably a misplaced thread... Didn't realize I was in the "apps" subfolder.
hold your stylus over the first file then drag down to select all the files, tap and hold and the copy button will pop up
wow, that works but there is a TON of lag on my phone before the "selection box" actually shows up on the screen and highlights the files. Is that normal?
How do you select multiple files that are not grouped together? (or unselect individual files in a group selection)?

Pretty instantaneous on mine but I think mine has a few enhancements.
If you use Total Commander there is a Ctrl function on the toolbar.
or if you use the normal HTC full keyboard you can use the 'Ctrl' button just like Windows desktop

Yes, even CTRL-V (paste) works. Within some programs the paste functionality doesn't work, so this is very convenient.

wow, I'm a total bonehead. I use Total Commander and have never noticed that Ctrl button at the bottom! That's awesome, thanks.
PS. After posting, I noticed that the lag only occurs in \Windows directory on my phone... probably 'cause there are so many files there. The lasso is speedy in other directories.

Selecting mutiple files

In apps like File Explorer of Mail Inbox, is there a way to select multiple contiguous files? Dragging just scrolls the screen.

With emails you can do Menu, Select Messages and Several to allow you to toggle mutiple messages.
With file explorer, you can annoyingly only do it when the screen will not scroll (if you've got less files than it takes to fill the screen!)
I'd recommend using Total Commander instead of file explorer. It does the same thing (plus plenty more), and there's a 'Ctrl' button that functions like the ctrl button on a PC, for selecting multiple files 1 by 1.
Hope this helps
personally i like resco file explorer, you can select multiple files AND it's finger friendly

I like Resco too, probably more than Total Commander, but Resco isn't free. It is at first, and then certain functions stop working after a while. It annoyed the hell out of me when that happened!

lol, you think it's finger friendly if every time you need to click something you need to zoom first? Resco explorer is really worth it's money!

No boubt about it. Resco is the best one in my opinion. I've got it as well.....
Temporarily Deactivate Touch Scrolling?
It would be a nice utility or some kind of toggle that would temporarily turn off the touch flow scrolling so the default touch actions like selecting multiple list items could be used. Hmmm.

Multiple file selection in file explorer

Hi
Can anyone please tell me how to select more than one file in file explorer?
If there is no scroll down on the screen, it is so easy just to touch and slide finger over files...
But when there are more files in the folder and it's not possible to show all of them on screen, sliding only scrolls down and doesnt select files...
I could fix that probles with editing files with computer, but that means I need to connect the device and pc everytime I would like to move photos from dcim folder to photos folder, for example...or I can just move one by one what is annoying and takes time...
Thanks
The default file explorer sucks, i think most people either use Resco Explorer 2010, or Total Commander which both allow a selection of multiple files.
I agree the best solution is to use a different file manager , just thought id mention if you use the swype keyboard in standard file manager you can tap sym three times to get to the arrows screen , click select text which should remain pressed and then the arrows will let you select multiple files.

I was thinking the same thing after a few days of purchase. As you mentioned, with a few files its easy but once its more than a screen can view, it loves to scroll and nothing else. In addition you cant copy / move files from the Windows folder as well, there are many reasons to not bother with the standard File explorer, i just use Resco File Exp as a few others have mentioned.
Atleast now i can select edit/invert selection etc to highlight certain files.
The only way to do this with File Explorer is to use a SIP with proper selection tools. The original WinMo keyboard had a Ctrl key but thats gone now.
I use TouchPal which has a 'Select' button in the toolbox, after which the direction arrows perform the multiple selections.

Problem-Question with the file explorer

Hello everybody and congrats for the good work!
On page 276 of the user manual, concerning the file explorer it is being said: "To copy or delete multiple files, tap and drag over the desired files, press and hold the selection, and then choose an option from the menu."
Well, this is possible only if the list of the files doesn't exceed the vertical size of the phone's screen.
Once it does, meaning there are a lot of files in the folder, tapping and dragging leads to scrolling down/up the list!
Do you know how to fix this?
Thnx in advance!
assuming you mean the built in file manager.
menu - select files- several
better still, try resco . with resco you drag your finger down the icons to multi select, and it auto scrolls as you drag.
Well I am afraid that this option is not available. I mean, when I hit Menu, there is no option Select Files-Several.
My Menu is in Greek, and the only similar option is: Menu-Edit-Select All, but all is not what I want, obviously.
Resco explorer seems very good, indeed. But I am tired of paying so much money to purchase apps for my mobile phone.
And I think it is not descent at all, for such a devise, not to support, such a simple idea.
