tbh, most of them would know this.
Doesn't matter now, I've ordered it as an upgrade from T-Mobile, can't wait for it to arrive, but I will have to because of Easter
Have a good one everybody.

Danish Orange M1000

The first Orange supplied M1000 devices were released at the sale in Denmark by Elgiganten, an electronics superstore, on December 27.
The price for the Orange sim-locked M1000 was 4299 DKR - or about 400 GBP. The Orange contract has a minimum period of 6 months with a DKR 117/GBP 11 monthly charge.
I managed to switch to my Telmore SIM card, giving me a 10 DKR / 1 GBP per MB GPRS plan with no monthly charge.
Orange supplies an extra battery (total of 2) , headset, leather case, cradle and extra stylus in the box.
I am very impressed by the device, due to the 128 MB of memory, I can now load and run Tom Tom 2 with the south Scandinavia map with no problems. I no longer have to switch between Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
ROM Version is 1.52.00WWE
Rom Date 10/23/03
Radion Version 1.05.16
Protocol version 1337.16
So far I have not found any problems apart from the missing radio buttons after running TomTom. The device runs perfectly with my Jabra 200 headset (late version, Nokia 3650 compatible), wakes up when incomming SMS'es are received etc.
While I do not see any reason to upgrade firmware at this pint, I would like to know if there are any improvements in more recent versions.
As I live in Denmark, I am also curious if the original keyboard for this device has Scandinavian characters. I have seen a infrared keyboard that does provide these (for us) important characters.

Michael
Hey
I have too purchased the Danish Orange M1000 (Qtek 2020 etc). I am very interested in hearing about the 1.60 ROM upgrade. Will it work on this device? And where can I get the danish keyboard layout?
Thx
T
....and by the way... Michael, have you enabled GPRS on Telmore? In that case, how???
GPRS on Telmore
First, naturally, I enabled GPRS using the Telmore website.
Secondly, I used the following settings
Select a name for the connection: TDC GPRS (anything goes)
Select a modem: Celluar Line (GPRS)
Access point name: internet
User name, password, Domain*: all blank
Advanced: No changes/default
That's it.
It works nice and fast. Connects in a few seconds and stays on until a reset or battery removal.
I am using the Spb GPRS Monitor to track utilizaiton.
Regards
Michael
you can as you most likely know get to the special letters on the onscreen keyboard by pressing å and e umloud key
as for a ir or cable external keyboard i doubt you'll find it if you think about the fact that MS havent nationalized windows CE pocketpc to danish most likely because of the too small market
so a external keyboard supporting a language which pocketpc kinda dont would be an even smaller market
i stand corrected

this product works for xda1 so it should work for xda2 aswell i suppose

There should be no problems in upgrading your M1000 phones to later ROM revisions, as long as it's done right, and the operator codes are changed in the ROM image as needed.
However, you should know that Orange in Denmark do not support any other version than their own M1000, as the owner of an Qtek 2020, i can only too well remember the hassle of getting the correct MMS settings ;o)
That said, if you need any assistance in getting your Danish M1000 working with a later ROM, and danish keyboard, just let me know.
Currently running ROM 2.06.00WWE on a Qtek 2020.

Hi Lars,
I would lvery much like to have some information about upgrading the software in a SPV m1000. I would like to be able to use another software/OS pack than the Orange supplied one. Can you help we with this?

Unlocking MDA Compact to use with Orange SIM

Hi!
I would like to use my tmobile compact with my orange sim and was wondering if there was a way to do it? I have read several posts on here about it, so I would just like a confirmation (better still, a refutal) that it is not possible at the moment and even if I overwrote the ROM with a different one, it would not change the SIM lock. Am I correct on this, or is there a pleasant surprise in store for me? Go easy, my first post..
Thanks,
Viktor
Your best bet is imei check for 20 quid.

Or if you've had your contract with T-mobile for over 28 days, you could phone them and ask for the unlock code which they will supply for 15 quid. (i'm not sure if charges differ according to the type of handset) anyway, you could try though
thanks guys - was hoping to do it myself, but thanks anyway!!

Video call doesn't work

Video call doesn't work ***UPDATE!*** NOW IT WORKS JUST FINE!!
READ THE BOTTOM OF THIS MESSAGE FOR UPDATE!!
When I try to make a video call with my dutch t-mobile vario 2 to another dutch t-mobile vario 2 user it disconnects me right away. My friend has made a video call from his vario 2 with a other cellphone umts user with success. His and my college's whom all had the vario 2 can't also seem to make a video call with eachother.
What is the problem with it? We all have 3G/UMTS connections and still it doesn't work. Is this just a setting we need to adjust? Is it T-Mobile NL that won't allow any video call connections?
PLEASE HELP ME / US OUT GUYS!!
I love my vario 2 but still haven't seen this video calling work. Video calling was also one of the reasons why I bought this phone...
Thx a million is advance
=======================================================
Ok guys! T-Mobile finally called me after 5 days and couldn't test it at that moment. After 2 days a technician called me and he checked my connection and that of a friend of mine whom I gave the number of to be checked also.
What he saw was that they (T-mobile) FORGOT to turn my video-call-option ON!!
Now it works perfectly!
So guys if it doesn't work just call T-mobile and they'll turn the video call option ON
btw! VIDEO CALL RULES!!! lol
Enjoy!
hlc1971,
Have you contacted t-mob NL customer service ? I am very courious whay they will say.
By the way, how much do you pay per month to have UMTS in your t-mob NL subscription?
Yeah I contacted T-Mobile this evening and their technical department is going to give me a call about this problem. I'll let you guys know what their answer to this problem is.
Here in The Netherlands we only have to pay 10 euro's a month for an unlimited GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA connection.

But it's only 64 kilobyte download!
For the 1,8 meg connection, it costs about 70 euro's.
I don't know anyone with the video call function, so I can't test it with my T-Mobile contract.
I'll post something here if it works, or not.
That's what I tought.
I have Magician at this moment (The MDA Vario II has not came yet, I ordered last week) and I also subscribed to the Web'n'Walk for 10 euro / month.
When I use the Vario II, will it AUTOMATICALLY use HSDPA 64 Kbps ???? Do I need to contact the customer service to activate HSDPA in my account ???
Or will it still use the GPRS connection like the old Magician ???
Thanks.

Overhere it switches AUTOMATICALLY from GPRS to HSDPA where it's possible. Before I had the MDA Compact (GPRS only) and just renewed my contract for a year together with the gprs package for 10 euro's/month. And indeed it switches automatically from "G" to "3G".
I just read that with the provider KPN you need to pay for whatever connection you like. So a GPRS connection was around 30 euro's a month and a HSDPA connection around 70 euro's.
Not with T-Mobile... not yet tho...

What do you mean not yet?
They changed their whole priceplan for data-connections when HSDPA came, they must have thought about it quite well.
I don't think it will get more expensive in time.
Or do you have some inside information you want to share?

hahaha No I don't have no inside information about T-Mobile getting more expensive but if KPN doesn't lose a lot of members because of the high pricing of HSDPA T-Mobile NL might wanna take a bite out of that pie also
I just wouldn't be supprised about it...that's al I'm saying
OH! The best friend of my uncle is an ambassedor at T-Mobile. She might enlighten me some more about it...
Will come back on this if I can get a hold on her...

How is 64kbps HSDPA??? That's around EDGE speeds!
Woah .. do we have to pay for this option ? I have Web'n'Walk with T-Mob NL for 9.5 euro / month.
We can only do video call with other MDA Vario II user right ? Or with other device like Nokia too?

US version of the Shift with EVDO Sprint modem

Folks in the US might want to know that HTC has a US version of the Shift with a Sprint modem. The embargo on this model was supposed to end March 24, but it's been moved up to today. We've had one for a few weeks and I can tell you it's nearly identical to the GSM version already out. Here's more info and a link to our review which has a few photos:
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=29820
And BTW, if you get one of these and semi-brick it, while on the SnapVUE side type in ##786#. That will hard reset the CDMA version (assuming SnapVUE can still communicate with the keyboard).

I've had to test it myself and it works-- but only on the CDMA version. The GSM version does nothing when you type in the ## command. However, you'd think there must be some equivalent for the GSM version. HTC gave me the code when I temporarily put SnapVUE into a comma . I've been hesitant to ask HTC about the GSM version command, but I shall do so.
Too bad
With out GSM I will not buy the shift. I was trying to sell my
HTC Advantage at work so I would upgrade to the shift. I'm glad that I read this in time. I need to be on the [email protected] network. Back to the Advantage.
Why not buy the GSM version-- several sites sell it.

????????????
The unlocked GSM 3G version is sold by several importers. Technically, it's the Euro version and has a UK keyboard layout (a few items like the # key and " key are in different locations from the US). Otherwise it's identical-- I have both the GSM (mine personally) and the CDMA US model (review unit). The only drawback is that if it needed warranty repair, I'd imagine you'd have to send it to Europe rather than a US facility.

he is talking about "real" gsm and not just SMS ability .. if I have well understood .. so while the voice ability has not been added, he won't buy a shift

and if snapvue can't communicate at all
i still have a solution... see the enter bootloader and hard reset thread i made
but, this was tested only on GSM shifts, if you could send me the shift control center files (shagctrl.exe, shagdll.dll in the GSM version) i would be able to confirm to some extent that it works the same on the CDMA one (unless you want to go ahead and try my program)
why could it matter you'd ask... well the program partially depends on radio bootloader ability.

Change 20 key to 16 key

I just got my wife an unlocked touch dual (neon200) and much to our dismay it is a 20key. She wouldl ike to be able to use T9 on the number keys like her old dumbphone.
Is there a hardware/software change/tweak to change from 20key to 16key for this phone?
same problem
Same problem !
Mark
I almost ahve the same problem. I have an unlocked japanese ntt docomo neon100 and I can't get the 16 key hard keyboard to work in english no matter what cab I install or rom I cook.
if you infd a way to patch the telstra one I bet it would fix my problem too.
I wish mine was a 20 key version and not a 16
