FTP down (duh), i might be able to help - Mogul, XV6800 General

I run a file server on my computer for various things, i've got a bit of room on it if anyone needs/wants to use it. Just drop me a PM and i'll give details. I am on Cable modem so i have a dynamic IP, but I can probably figure out a way around that.
Anyway, just trying to help while we have no FTP here.

File Sharing via WiFi - See the *phone* files on the rest of the network

Hi,
Found lots of interesting little programs for my Windows Mobile phone recently, but one thing I can't find.
I want to be able to access the files on my phone from the network, via wifi (as a normal file share). I know it can be done the other way around, ie I can see files on the network from the phone, but haven't found anything to make the phone share its own files.
Is this possible? Can't see any particular reason why not - networking obviously works the other way, I know you can get http and ftp servers for the phone. Am I just missing something?
If there isn't a program out there that can do it, is it because no one's found a use for it and so not developed it, or is there a technical reason why it can't be done?
Any help much appreciated!
David

Mocha FTP server

Small bit of help needed.

I'm wondering if someone could help me out.
I've been a programmer for over 16 years now. But for PCs. I've been struggling trying to find some sample code for WM6 to simply connect to a remote computer. read some data. and print that data on the PPCs screen.
It will not be an FTP program, but something very similar to this. Can someone please help me out by creating some code and posting it that will do the following:
a field to enter remote IP and port
Connect button.
When connect button is pressed, it will connect to the remote IP server (use ftp if it makes it simple. for you. I'll be using a different port # and system)
once connected, print something to the screen that shows it's connected.
I could even possibly paypal a small thank you if it did this.
I prefer it to be in C++.
If there's some code out there already, like in a sourceforge project or whatever, can someone please link it?
Thanks!

Access storage card from wifi?

All,
I have setup a WiFi router on my PDA and want to connect a WiFi camera to it. When pictures are taken I want to be able to store them on the PDA.
I have successfully got two PDA's connected by the router.
I can do this with a laptop but I need to be able to map some form of drive to my PDA.
Can I do this?
Thanks,
Sam
install resco explorer and map a network drive, within resco you should then be able to see the drive via wifi.
Thanks for your suggestion but I think that this is going the other way than I need to go.
I may have found my solution as I can run an FTP server on the PDA and the camera can do an autosend via FTP client to the IP of the PDA FTP server.
Not ideal but at least it is a start.
The Rescoe approach I thought would only allow me to connect TO a destination and not share my Storage Card out. Am I right?
Thanks for taking the time and interest, I was beginning to despair that anyone would respond at all,
Kind Regards,
Sam.
The only thing I have found so far is the FTP route.
I was using mocha FTP server and it's default set for anonymous login.

I haven't found anything other than that.

For what it's worth you are correct about this.

Configuring an FTP App...

...like 'AndFTP' & 'SwiFTP'. Can someone please be so kind as to post tutorial? I am using my computer through a Cordless router. I thought I saw a post here about a similiar app but cannot seem to find it. Thanks.
I just installed SwiFTP. Does anything else need to be installed on the computer? I am already using a FTP program on my Win Vista. I just installed it on the phone and typed in the username and password that I made up, but how to see start seeing the files on the computer? I see the app is running at the top of the black banner.
some cell phone carriers filter port 21 the default port for FTP
so you might not be able to use them
i had to change it to another port
what are you trying to do with the FTP?
you need a FTP client if you want to download stuff
you don't need a FTP server on your phone
Thank you. I would like to access my computer from my phone or/and vise versa. I read somewhere where someone is doing just that. So which FTP client app do I need?
the 2 you mentioned are pretty much the best at the moment
but none of them supports soft ftp which is more friendly with proxy and firewalls setup by the phone carriers
you just need to type in the address of your computer, and the port of your ftp server at home, then you can connect to it
make sure you use a port that is not blocked
Thank you. How do I find the FTP address on my computer? I am on a wireless router.
you need something like no ip or dynDNS
and also setup your router to allow traffic through the port you want
OK, thanks but you mention setting up the router, which is something I cannot do. I had it installed by someone else. You mentioned my computer's IP. Again, I ask, how do I find my computer's IP?
I wish there was a step-by-step somewhere on the net to install and setup this thing.
if you can not configure your router, then it will not work
you can get your ip by using the software from noip and dynDNS as mentioned above

[Q] File sharing outside network

OK, so right now I've got a folder on a windows xp machine shared across my home network via smb. I want to take this to the next level and be able to access it everywhere. I need to be able to get to it on Android and write access would be nice but not necessary. I've been googling around and all I've been able to gather is that smb is a bad idea. What would be the best way to go about making this happen?

Use the filezilla ftp server, setup the port you want to use and the password and configure everything accordingly. (I can help)
And then setup port forwarding on your router.
Then install "Turbo Ftp Client" from the google play store.
Set it up with the external ip address of your network and the port that you forwarded on your router.
And bam, you could access anywhere.
Google is your friend, but if you've searched and read about the stuff listed above, I will be glad to help guide you.
