Unlocking MDA question - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have two MDA's with T-Mobile I just cancelled service with them and got two Sprint Touch's.
My son has a AT&T GoPhone he bought on his own.
Question: Can I unlock the MDA and use the SIM card from his GoPhone with the MDA ?
Thanks

i think thats the definition of unlock.

Yes, but he won't be able to use GPRS (data). He will be able to use WiFi, when an available network is near, though, and that's not bad.
Here's the SIM unlocking thread. I'd suggest reading it THOROUGHLY more than once, before trying it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249474

Worked like a charm
That went much easier than I thought.
With Bluetooth and WiFi router he can connect to my router or to my new Sprint phones via bluetooth for internet access.
Thanks for the help!

Do I need a 3g usim card for 3g on a m3100?

Hi All
I have just ordered a orange spv m3100 to be used unlocked on t-mobile. I just phoned up t-mobile to ask if i need a new sim to use in a 3g phone, but the woman i spoke to seemed to think that there is no such thing as a 3g sim, is this correct?
Will my old sim from my wizzard work in the m3100 and will i get 3g?
Thanks
you can use a 2g sim in the m3100 but you wouldnt be able to get any 3g services out of it.
best thing to do is just pop your sim into it and it will tell you if you have a 3g signal.
hope this helps
thats what i thought, thanks. i will have to phone up t-mobile again and explain i want a 3g sim.
have you asked to receive the m3100 unlocked or are you having it unlocked after you get it?
as far as i'm aware the m3100 comes locked to orange as standard so you won't be able to use a t-mobile sim...
I've spoke to T-mobile previously about 3g services and they've told me that the chip that I got off them (Bought a MDA vario) would be able to use 3g.
I popped it into my Nokia N70 and it worked a treat.
So, you might not need a different type of Sim card
nice tread i was literally going to ask this exact sme question. i just posted in another thread, asking almost the same thing, only i'm getting a new contract on t-mob and extending my misses contracting then gonna pay for them to both be unlocked and then swap the sims,
hope they send me a 3G sim
Strangely enough, I've ordered a Orange SPV 3100 today and depending on if I like it I'm going to get it unlocked and use my t-mobile chip with it.
Don't fancy paying £20 to get it unlocked to test though, So if anyone can get me a free unlocking solution by tomorrow, that would be appreciated
Even T-Mobile pay as you go sim cards seem to be fine for 3g data - just not enabled for video calling.
My vodafone sim card is a standard one, I haven't changed it in 3 or 4 years and 3g works fine.
thanks for the replys guys, this is all sounding good
I have a mate who had a MDA Vario. He bought an unbranded TyTN and asked me what he had to do to get the internet working.
I said call T and ask for 1) 3g sim 2) connection settings.
He called T and they said he didn't need a 3g sim... I have to say I though they were talking bollocks. So he popped his old sim in and we had a video call - no problems at all.
So you may be ok...
It depends on when you got your device/SIM. If bought over the last year it should be OK, if the SP supports 3G anyway. Older SIMs may need to be replaced.
So...the networks have been shipping USims instead of Sims....interesting. I didn't know that.
Quite useful to know.
thats very interesting, although I have had my sim for some time so not sure if it is a usim. Mine came with my Magician just over a year and a half ago. When I got my wizzard, I just swpped the sim over.
My M3100 should be here today, so I will test it and see what happens.
I dont think there will be a free unlocking tool for a few weeks at least, so Im just going to pay the £20 and get the code.

My voda sim is a sim (not a usim) and is about 3 years old and has worked in every voda 3g phone I've tried it in (v980, 6680, sharp 902, sharp 903, v3x and xda exec).
Gives 1.2mb on hsdpa.
I just had to ask for it to be enabled when voda launched 3g.

MDA on CINGULAR

I have a tmobile MDA that is unlocked and working great. My work just issued us cellphones attached to a CINGULAR plan. I put the sim into my MDA and everything seems to work right.
The only thing that does not work right is DUN (Dial-Up Networking) ... with the t-mobile sim in there (also unlocked) I am able to dial up to my ISP and obtain a (albeit slow) connection that I can use for the rare time that I want to get on the internet and check something. When I use the same connection with the cingular sim installed, it says that there is no modem at the number.
Any ideas? Should I also unlock the cingular sim? Should I use a cingular rom on my phone? Does cingular block DUN connections? I really would like to cancel my personal t-mobile and go with completely free cellphone service, as I tend to enjoy things that are free.
You just need to configure your internet settings to Cingular settings. If you go to Cingular.com and look under support>device/phone support & choose the 8125 as your phone. Then click on internet/browser settings. Follow the onscreen instructions and you will be able to connect to Cingular's EDGE/GPRS with your MDA.
Don't modify your current settings if you plan on still using your T-Mobile SIM. Just start a new connection with all of Cingular's stuff. That way when you're using the T-Mobile card just switch the connection to T-Mobile's settings and when you're using the Cingular SIM switch over to Cingular's settings. 8)
Not exactly what i was asking
I was referring to Dial-Up Networking, not GPRS/EDGE ... I am able to dial into a DIALUP ISP and connect to it just as I am able to from a regular PC.
This way I am able to get free (well, almost. It still uses my minutes) internet, albeit at slower than standard dialup speeds.
Is your company paying for unlimted data on the Cingular plan or just allowing you to use minutes? I've never attempted to use DUN for a 3rd party providor, but using Cingular as an ISP(GPRS/EDGE) should be better than than using someone else... I'm not sure how businesses get by without offering/using data packages these days.
yes
I dial into a service called nocharge.com.
I am in California, and the service is based in Washington, but since minutes are minutes, regardless long distance, I am able to get free (sort of) dialup internet through nocharge.com.
So this is something that no one has tried? That amazes me.
doesn't Cingular still have it's own dialup number to use?
have you tried testing it out with settings such as the ones in the link below?
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cach...90+cingular+8125+csd&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1
i believe t-mobile disabled its csd by now so not sure if this will work but its worth a shot as a test...
man csd at a max speed of 9.6kbps would kill me i can barely pull up any websites using t-mo's EDGE
if you cant get the above link to work try searching for "cingular 8125 csd" on google...there is quite a bit of hits
I'm using the cingular 8125 on tmobile
the 8125 and MDA are the exact same device with different software (and of course exterior case). If you download the lastest cingular rom (which you should be able to find the offical one here on xda) and after syncing all your contacts etc, load the cingular rom from your desktop pc and it will guide you through flashing a new rom onto your wizard (aka 8125, MDA, etc).
You will have all the settings as if you had actually bought an 8125.

JASJAR & Verizon Wireless?

Hi Everybody,
I have an I-Mate JASJAR and my friend who currently has a Moto RAZR, is on Verizon Wireless, but his phone doesnt make use of a sim card.
He is interested in buying my JASJAR from me, does anybody know if it is possible to get the JASJAR working on the Verizon Wireless network without a sim card?
Thanks
ChildOTK
that would be a no. Verizon runs off CDMA technology and the JASJAR off of GSM technology. so no the Uni will not work on verizons network
aaahh, ok, thanks. Didnt think of that.
Well a while ago I posted that Verizon was going to allow other phones on their network; granted they use CDMA protocol and our phones are WCDMA compatible, but I think it is the wrong frequency.
just my 2 cents

Qtek 9100 not working on Florida T-mobile network

Hi all,
I hope this argument has not been already discussed. Because all the keyword related to this specific problem are very general, I'm having an hard time searching for related posts...
I have a Qtek 9100 (not branded and never locked to any company) that I used successfully with all the Italian mobile companies. I moved to Florida couple of month ago, and my Vodafone SIM has been working fine in roaming.
Because roaming is not cheap at all , I just bought a t-mobile SIM card. But when I insert it the phone says "Waiting for connection" forever. If I try to select the network manually, the only available one is "cingular".
I also bought an At&T SIM, that according to AT&T and T-Mobile customer services, should have exactly the same technology for GSM connection, and so my phone should work either on both or none...). Strange enough, it works perfectly with the At&T.
However, I would like to use T-Mobile, as it is much cheaper for the type of service I need.
Can anyone help me? Do you think it can be related to the GSM firmware?
Thanks
Giacomo
Did you try flashing a stock t-mobile ROM to it?

HTC HD2 three network uk?

Hello everyone
Did enyone now did that phone work on three network in england...?
Currently i'm on contract with three network & want to buy hd2 but im not sure is 100% work in three network.
Went to few mob seconhand but all hd2 was locked to t-mobile or vodafone so cant't testet with my sim card.
will appreciate if anyone can help
ps. sorry 4 my poor english
I'm with 3 and everything has been perfect up until recently when my phone stopped connecting to the internet when I'm at home/in the area around home. I have a strong signal but just can't connect to the internet. The strange thing is that:
- I have no problems connecting to the internet when I move to a different area/suburb
- Can connect to the internet when I stick my girlfriend's 3UK SIM card in the HD2
- Can connect to the internet with my SIM card in another phone.
The problem just seems to be with my SIM in the area that I live so I tried replacing my SIM card to see if that would fix the problem. Unfortunately it didn't so I'm not sure whether the problem is with 3 or the phone.
Sorry about the long-winded story. The point of it all is that I've encountered this funny problem, don't know what is causing it and 3 won't provide any support because I'm not using one of their phones.
I have an hd2locked on o2, and when I put another sim in it fails to register the network.
a friend came round last week and tried his 3 sim in my phone and it didn't even recognize there was a sim there at all, so I would be very wary of buying without trying if I were you.
I have been using the operator 3 for more than two years (different phone models) and I have never had any issue.
Currently, I use 3 on my HTC HD2 (Generic HTC - Sim Free) and works perfect.
The internet connection, email, mms, sms, everything works perfect.
im currently replying with a 3 sim in my htc branded hd2..
even though im on vfuk the signal is so poor that I got a 3 sim to test on their old payg 5quid unlimited net.
I get full hdpda signal and its much quicker than the same with vf when I can find a decent hspda signal with them.
seriously contemplating going to them full time when my contact ends with vfuk. as it stands I just use this at home for data and the vf for voice.
im on 3 network with a retail unlocked hd2 and can report no probs. hspda nice speed where i am, internet tethering fine to. cheers
I've got my hd2 from virgin it came unlocked but 3g signal is very weak indoors so I still use my old three card and it works perfect.
hi
thx 4 help
Three web show excellent broadband cover so hd2 should be work well.
The point of it all is that my contract is running out in 1march and three is offering me 750min 150txt 50videocall and internet =12.50£ 12month contract with some sony T715(warth90-130£ ebay) or 25£ 12month htc hero so If i will sell one of thoes phones on ebay will get money back and 12month contract will cost me around 30£ + htc hd2 around 400£= around430-450£
or
other option 1year contract with vodafone 40£/mount+84£ handsed cost =564£ 300min unlimited txt unlimited internet but fair usage policy of 500MB...?
Summarise Three=450£ vs vodafone=564£
