Hey all,
Not new to electronics, but am very new to the Mogul and PDA/Pocket PC flashing..
My new Qwest Mogul will arrive tomorrow and, from what I've read, GPS is not enabled out of the box.. I've been reading that I can re-flash the device to somehow enable the internal GPS chip for use with my TomTom Navigator 6 s/w, but can't figure out how exactly to do it, and I don't want to jump into it and brick my new Mogul.
Right now I've got DCD_3.0.1_Qwest.exe which I picked up here (thanks, by the way!) but I'm not sure what to do with it, and (maybe I'm blind, but..) I can't seem to find a tutorial on how to use it with my Qwest Mogul..
If possible, could someone guide me through the steps on getting my Mogul setup so I can use get this GPS chip enabled?
Also, will I be losing any functionality re-flashing my Mogul? Will it 'look' any different?
Again, sorry if I sound like an idiot to you guys.. but I'd like to learn how to do this so I can quit bugging everyone about it haha
TIA,
-mak

should have what you need to know.
Basically:
Run the 2.4 unlocker
Run the official ROM w/ Radio
Flash the dcd_qwest ROM
Thank you very much!
So the instructions you've posted will, in fact, work for the Qwest Mogul to unlock/enable GPS Navigation?

EDIT:
Also, there are some things in that list of 'Removed' items that I would like to keep, such as; Entertainment (Games), Adobe Reader, etc.. I'm assuming the reader can be downloaded from Adobe, but how do I go about getting the games back?
I've now got the following, please let me know if it's everything I need, and what exactly each item is;
DCD_3.0.1_Qwest.exe
dcd_titan_kitchen_3.0.1.rar
titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe
As for the radio, it says it's included with the official Sprint ROM, do I use the Sprint ROM on my Qwest Mogul???
Please test it first
Just a recomendation here, but just in case you get a defective one you might want to not touch the ROM for a few days and put it thru the paces. If you get a bad one it is always best to know before messing with it. Afterwards, the 3.01 is a good ROM, but a bit tricky even for the experienced because things are not quite ironed out with the radio and serveral experienced people have injured their units, so I would recomend 'cutting your teeth' on 2.3.2, as it worked really well for me and is pretty cut and dried and the process is stable. In order to get the apps you want like acrobat and games you can use the kitchen and get them in there.
You also won't need the kitchen (i'd worry about that later, to be honest, not good to "cut your teeth" with a kitchen).
You do need the offical sprint ROM, since it includes the radio.
If i recall correctly from when i flashed my friend's qwest 6800, I did this:
olipro's 2.40
Offical sprint rom [when the customizations come up (ie. tap screen to begin), i flashed the DCD 3.0.1 qwest rom.
But it's been a few days so i'd search around here and on ppcgeeks to double check.
As madman said, however, I'd put the phone through the paces for a few days to make sure all is well. Run some benchmarks and such to put a strain on it. If you flash and figure out you have a bad phone...well, you're out however much you paid for it.
Good luck and welcome to the fun
Thanks guys, I think I understand now
I'll keep my Mogul stock for a bit to make sure everything is good, but Qwest offers an exchange for the phone if it's defective, and I have handset insurance in case it gets 'lost'.. so I'll be covered for the future there.
So am I correct to assume I should do the following;
Install titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe
Then install Official Sprint ROM w/ Radio (where can I get that, or do I already have it??)
Then, during customizations, shut the phone down and install DCD_3.0.1_Qwest.exe, or an older version that might be less buggy?
If I do the above, it will unlock GPS on my phone? ..in the end, other than some applications, will I lose any functionality (e.g; Text Messaging, WiFi, etc)?
Thanks again,
-mak

that should do it
shouldnt lose any functionality, make sure you write down all the information and such about msid, mdn, etc. Should be a post in here about that somewhere, I can find it for you on here for ppcgeeks if you need.
edit: it was in ppcgeeks:

The link provided is broken, is this the correct file; ftp://Mogulrom:[email protected]_RS_TITAN_3.35.04_4350H_SPCS_AM_Ship.exe
Here I go...
After reading this thread, I've decided to take the plunge and attempt the upgrade to my Qwest Mogul. Just to verify, I do the following:
Use Olipro 2.4
Flash to Sprint Upgrade
Flash to the DCD 3.0.1
Are there any codes or other information that I am going to need to write down before I start the procedure?
@ mak: yes, that's the right one, sorry, didnt check my links :/
@ reddhanky: read the PPCgeeks thread, dont forget to get the getspc program for your epst unlock code.

Click to collapse
The guide you linked to is still a little bit confusing for me, not sure why, but I don't see this part anywhere;

I've taken note on everything else, and the A-Key didn't apply here since it was empty..
Help?

EDIT:
> h. click view info and select M.IP, again record these settings.
I have the following;
M.IP Settings
M.IP Default Profile
M.IP Customer Profile 1
M.IP Customer Profile 2
M.IP Customer Profile 3
M.IP Customer Profile 4
M.IP Customer Profile 5
Which one do I want to write down?
Managed to install olipro 2.40
But when I try to install the Sprint update (3.35), I get to the screen where it shows my current version (2.13) and to update to the sprint version... click next then next and the ppc reboots into bootloader, then the program crashes (ROMUpdateUtility has stopped working... A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.). Any ideas? I'm using Vista and have followed the instructions to the letter.
I dont run vista (usually i run linux actually, even successfully flashed in linux, i hate MS). But i'll look and see what i can find.
Is there a way to right click the RUU and choose compatibility as XP maybe?
tried compantibility mode XP SP2
Tried using compatibility mode but wouldn't work.
hmm
so you're in bootloader but can't run the RUU?
or you can't get into bootloader?
Success!
I've finally managed to upgrade my Qwest Mogul software to DCD's 3.0.1. The problem I had with updating to Sprint 3.35 was solved by right clicking on the install icon and setting the compatability setting to XP SP2 for ALL USERS (just changing it for the current user didn't work). Once I made the Sprint update, I entered bootloader mode ran the DCD rom and everything went smoothly.
Now to play with it and see how it works! I will update you guys to let you know how it goes.
Thanks to all, especially DCD and |||Bored|||, for the help with this process. It's been a bit nerve-wrecking for me, especially since I"m a Vista user on top of how few people have the Qwest Mogul. Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and did I say, THANK YOU!
Wow!
My Mogul seems to run much more smoothly (and dare I say it, FASTER) and after loading all my applications I am running at about 20MB free RAM. GPS works! I've been putting this darn thing through its paces and it hasn't crashed yet! So far, the sound through my Motorola s9 headset is working flawlessly...
Happy camper!
Qwest STock ROM
Been searching but can't find the stock ROM for the Mogul. Does anybody know where I can get it (just in case I ever have to send my mogul in for exchange/repair)?
Also, does anybody know if there is a way to put a shortcut on my Mogul to turn the GPS on and off?
Is the Internet working on your upgraded Qwest Mogul?
Reddhanky:
I also have the Qwest Mogul and tried to do the upgrade (as follows):
1) Flashed Olipro 2.4
2) Flashed Sprint ROM 3.35
3) Flashed DCD 3.01_Qwest
However, after the Sprint flash, I allowed that customizations to complete. When I went to DCD, everything worked ...except for the internet/data.
I went back and reflashed the Sprint ROM and just left it there. Again, everything but the internet/data is working (I can send/receive calls and SMS).
What's worse, I tried to downgrade back to Qwest 2.13 but do not seem to be having any luck (the ROM will install, but won't change the radio ROM ... then it just sits at the black HTC splash screen and won't boot).
Qwest is sending me a replacement phone, but before I send this one back (or brick the replacement), I'd like to know how things are working for you...
P.S.: If anyone knows how to downgrade the 3.35 radio ROM back to 1.40/1.47 on a Qwest Mogul, please let me know.

Back to normal!!!!
Just an update:
I'm managed to get my phone back to the Qwest 2.13 ROM. As it stands now:
Bootloader/SPL: Olipro 2.40
Radio: Titan_1.47
ROM: Qwest_2.13
To get the radio ROM loaded, I had to go the SD route. Specifically, after installing the Qwest_2.13 ROM (and watching it freeze at the black 'HTC' logo page), I found a way to load the old radio ROM:
1) I formatted my microSD card as Fat32
2) Placed the 'titan_1.47.CDMA.nbh' file on it as "TITAIMG.nbh"
3) With the phone powered off (battery removed), I inserted the microSD card and entered the bootloader (held the 'power' + 'camera' + 'soft reset button' ... keeping the 'power' + 'camera' buttons held after releasing the 'soft reset'
4) When the bootloader came up, it prompted to load the 'TITAIMG.nbh' file. I hit the 'power' button as directed. After about 5-10 min, the upload succeeded and I hit the 'soft reset' again to reboot.
Some items to note when it came back up:
1) The MSL code I had no longer worked (I got it after I did the Sprint ROM upgrade). Fortunately, when working with Qwest, they gave me the MSL code
2) The MSID info was way off (not sure if it was because of the Qwest ROM I used, or all the crap I did trying to clear/access the extrom info)
In any case, after resetting some of the EPST info, the phone reset and worked exactly like it's supposed to.
Next Step:
A) Retry the Sprint ROM (this time I have my M.IP password!!!)
&/or
B) Don't play with the Sprint ROM and just use DCD Qwest_3.01
I'll post any success/failures. But rest assured, if you do decide to play around, there does appear to be a way to get back to the beginning

Hi
My alpine had been upgraded to 02's new rom which took the radio back to 1.0. I don't use the Blackberry functionality so decided to try Pug's update. I also hate all the 02 stuff (no longer with them anyway) but after following the readme and forum comments to the letter the upgrade - using Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped.rar hung at the radio update bit - every time and I tried loads.
I then decided to reinstall the the 02 (my-xda site) update which also didn't work. I've now tried putting the alpine into bootloader mode and trying the upgrade with three of the files Pug kindly put up. I've rebooted my pc between, tried everything I can think of several times, each time only trying something different after trying the same way more than once and I am left with a PDA with a blank screen which only reads USB v1.01.
Sorry, additional info. I don't have to use Task Manager to end the process as I get this error which allows me to exit:
Error 114: Radio Rom Update Error.
I used Winrar (new beta version) to extract the .rar file(s).
Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.
Leanne
It's probably OK!
Still - don't panic - you should have found out by now that if you do a reset it will load all the original ROM info and you should be back where you started.
I suggest you read through all the posts in pugs ROM thread. In there you will find a reply from christoperwoods pointing to a patched installer located at :
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
Follow the instructions and you should be OK.
After the reset try the ROM upgrade again. As long as you have external power (and I would strongly recommend using the mains adapter as USB power is not as reliable as you may think) throughout the upgrade - which takes 20-30 mins in total - you should be OK.
I would be interested in what you think of it - I actually went from the ROM version you are trying to load to the O2 .171 ROM upgrade yesterday as I was having problems with GPS connectivity on the pug ROM. I know the radio stack is only 1.00 - but it works for me.
Phil
XDA Radio upgrade hang prob.
Huge thanks for responding, Phil. Unfortunately no amount of resetting, either normally or bootloader mode has worked.
I had read through all Pugs' threads, but took your suggestion on board and re-read in case I had missed something. I also tried the alternative patched installer you mentioned - to no avail.
I've had a chat with an XDA repair house now and we think it may be a problem with the connectors, but even if it isn't I am dropping the pda into them as I have a very limited timeframe to get a fix done (it's Friday and I leave the country on Tuesday!!). A suggestion has been made of using something called jafwm (I think that's what it was) to reload the system but you need a dongle to complete the process.
I'm interested in your comment about the gps side of things as well, as this is one of the main uses for my pda (destinator) - along with reading books (ereader) and listening to books (audible).
Ideally I am looking to rid my XDA of all 02 specific stuff (except the battery monitor) and have the newest radio version as I have found 1.0 problematic.
Once I get back online again in New Zealand (where I am going on Tuesday 20/6) I will drop a reply to the forum about what truly ended up being the problem.
Anyway, once again thanks for the response and the helpful suggestions
Leanne
Hey,
Right, so in my great wisdom I managed to drop my TyTN on its face on the kitchen floor one day and since then it just doesn't do GSM.
On boot, it says "No GSM" below the boot logo, and anything to do with GSM (opening the phone app) causes the device to run slow for a little while then return back to normal without launching the phone app or throwing any error message. Its stuck in permanent "flight mode" as it were.
Sending the phone back to the provider, they turned around and said "On inspection it was found that 3rd party software was loaded on the unit and damaged the unit. Unit is returned without repairs done to it."
I was using one of the ROMS from the forums here which worked fine for a few weeks up till the drop. (I do know which one but I'd prefer not to give anyone a bad name where its not called for, so prefer not to mention it directly).
I will say that it was a fairly new release in june.
Also currently have on boot.
IPL-1.04
SPL-1.40.Olipro
Have since tried re-installing version roms which have made no difference at all.
So:
1: is it possible that the updated OS and flashing the radio etc could have cause the problem described?
2: How do I return the phone to its original radio version and a generic (officially supported) WM5?
3: Is there anything I can do from my side to fix the problem?
Many thanks
-RobH
Have you tried flashing the original ROM that it came with... Then you can probably take it back to another warranty shop or to HTC for repair... You can also upgrade to Olipro 2.10, you can search for the files, I'm just to lazy to look for it now... If you can't find let me know, and I'll look for it...
Once you upgrade to Oli 2.10, it may make a difference.. Have you tried flashing the radio...? It could very well be a hardware problem that occurred during that sudden stop on the floor...
I'm not to helpful, sorry...
Rob,
Obviously the fall messed up your TyTN, and HTC now refuses to work on it (read save money) because you are running a non-standard firmware. Well, screw that!
Have a look here to start the downgrading process.
Then, go to Leaf's site and download the AKU3 firmware from the Members section.
Flash it to your TyTN.
Then take it back to a different repair centre (not too sure about your options in Grahamstown) and tell them you dropped it, and now it is not working anymore.
Right so trying to get the original (well an club-imate approved) rom installed so that I can try the repair center again...
Based on this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
Image is HERMIMG_CDL_1.31.305.2_SHIP.nbh
(Extracted frin JASJAM_wwe_1.31.305.2_1.31.305.104_1.21.31.10_ship.exe)
I get the following:
<Gray screen with blue txt>
HERMIMG.nbh -
IPL - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
SPLASH2 - OK
EXTROM - OK
GSM -
OS -
Update in Progress...
</End screen>
And thats where it sits.
Even when trying the recommended usb/HardSPL methods, its gets to about 14% and hangs. I presume due to the GSM module being damaged.
I've also tried .nbh's that only have the GSM stuff, and using the microSD method, it gets about 5% along the progress bar and then halts.
EDIT: I've managed to flash it with an original rom excluding the GSM stuff. Will see what happens at the repair center...
-Rob
Excellent, hope you get it sorted!
I'm hoping somebody here can help, because I'd hate to have to get rid of a device that I really love...
Used Helmi's WM6 (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...angel_WM6_Home) to upgrade from WM2003SE and everything was working beautifully!
I was absolutely LOVING the new software until my device just stopped accepting the passcode that I had been using for 2 years. What I don't understand is I had to use the passcode a few times after the upgrade and all was fine. What could have happened for it to suddenly change by itself (because I know it wasn't me)?
Someone at the PocketPCAddicts forum suggested that I locate an original factory ROM to wipe out everything on the device and try again from scratch. I've searched the web looking for such a beast and can't find one (since the manufacturer/carrier no longer support it).
Can someone here help?
Debbie
Had the same problem...
Hi Debbie,
Same thing happened when I upgraded from WM2003 to the WM6 ROM. Unfortunately there was no solution and I just ended up disabling the password to ensure I never got stuck.
If you ever stumble upon a solution that works for you, I'd be happy to hear about it!
I'm about to try out the latest WM6.11 and hope it will have that particular issue solved - I'll let you know.
Ken
if you press and hold power+record+camera the same time and then reset you get to the boot loader.
you will see the 3 options, which i have fogotten, but if you put in the same options as instructions tell you after flashing a new rom, then push the mail button i believe, it will format you memory and you will be able to get back in again.
i had the same problem where i was locked out and i did that and just sync'd again to get back to my positon prior getting locked out.
hope that helps
Thanks, I will try it again.
Should I be able to simply repeat those steps, or should I start from the beginning? I don't have the device with me right now.
Thanks again,
Debbie
follow the instructions after the flashing the rom stage all the way to the end.
you choose to format memory on the gray screen with 3 options.
i flashed the wm6.1(5.2.19716) several days ago, and tested in several situations, my BA can remember the pw now, thanks for the hardwork of rom maker.
Thanks! (Now Internet Problem)
I got it to finally work, after getting a 3rd hand to help in the key combination/timing.
Only problem now is that my SX66 no longer connects to the Internet. Tried every setting/CAB I could find and no dice. AT&T tech and advanced tech support didn't help and I was told that the OS may have corrupted the connectivity.
Should I try loading another WM6 version?
Thanks again,
Debbie
I just recently acquired a HTC Touch Dual and really like it but am having a few issues with it. First, I get tskschedule, repllog, and clocknot notification errors. I've noticed a few threads regarding this issue but haven't yet found a solution so any suggestions would be most appreciated. The second problem is that my battery indicator doesn't seem to be working properly, it stays at 90% and doesn't change regardless of how long I use it for. This caused the phone to die on me in the middle of a conversation. So if anyone has an idea on how to fix either of these two issues, that'd be great.
Hard-Reset or flash another ROM (for example Original HTC Shipped 6.1 or one of the custom ROMs which where offered here in your language).
I bought the device used and unlocked off of eBay, will hard-resetting it keep it unlocked? Also, I'm very much a noob to phones and don't have any clue about flashing roms, what are they exactly and how do I do it? Thanks for the quick reply.
Hard-reset = Original state of the installed ROM
For flashing there are lots of tutorials here (I don't know which is your native language, so I can't post links to some ROMs - I have nearly tested all of them ;-)). Best you try flashing first original HTC ROM. Very easy (you said it's already unlocked), just connect the phone to pc via USB and start the flashingtool. After flashing hard-reset to be sure that all settings and files were restored to original state. That's all.
Don't forget to backup contacts, emails and so on before hard-resetting/flashing! Files on storage-card will be ignored, you don't need to backup them!
im from the us, so my native language is english. do you have any suggestions or links for the better flashing tools? after flashing to my original rom, my phone will stay unlocked right? because it doesn't it'll create more problems for me then i am having right now. thanks again
My native lang is German, so don't worry about my English ;-)
Unlocking is easy, just use hardspl and uspl. I have unlocked my phone only once a time and never had problems after or while flashing (done 15 times or more!). Once I killed my phone with a bad Rom (endless boot-sequence), but you can go into bootloader by pressing "Power-Button + Camera-Button + Reset", so you're always able to flash another Rom and/or could unlock the phone again. Nevertheless I can give no guarantee.
First you could try to download from HTC website. You need the serial-no. which can be found after removing the battery. If you have a look at niki upgrading/flashing forum you'll find also links to the original ROMs.
You can also try the latest WWE/english ROMs offered in this forum at the first 1-2 pages. I tried Gullum's TF3D and Lilly's ROM, both are great and have Manilla included (if you don't like it, the old HTC Home plugin is included in HTC Rom), but I prefer german ROMs. The Niki Project Rom didn't work for me (bugs in Outlook and Office Mobile).
All Roms include the flashing tool, it's really easy to use.
thanks buddy, i'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes
do i have to use a sspl before a hardspl? i have a neon and havent yet found a sspl for it yet. how dangerous is it to use a hardspl? im very new at this so thats why i have so many questions. thanks again
For me everything worked without problems. So I can't say how "dangerous" it is. Most users don't have any problems. To be sure get latest ROM from HTC or your provider, so if any problems occur, you're able to flash the original ROM back via bootloader.
As far as I know you only need to hardspl, but I did sspl first and then hardspl.
I think we need to clear up a couple of things and kind of slow down before you brick your phone
Generally, there are 3 types of locking for these phones.
First, there is SIM locking that everyone is familiar with and locks your phone for use on only one network.
Secondly, we have CID locking - which locks the software\firmware on your phone to that supplied by a particular carrier (for example, if your phone is CID locked to AT&T, you can only flash a ROM from AT&T and not HTC or a custom ROM).
Lastly, and least to be concerned about, is Application locking. I've not heard of any of the touch duals being app locked so we can safely ignore this.
I'm guessing that you meant your phone is sim unlocked in which case, I'm 99.9% sure that none of the ROMs that you can flash will change that.
If yours still has the carrier ROM on it, it is most likely still CID locked so you need to get that off first.
Once that's done, you need to HARD SPL installed (the SPL is the bootloader bit, SSPL is just a "software" version of it that can run but doesn't install anything) If you put HARD SPL on, then it is almost impossible to brick and ruin your phone - but until that is on, don't try flashing custom ROMs or radios etc. as you're asking for trouble.
Also, until you have HARD SPL on, be careful about flashing anything - make sure you don't run apps while it's going and shutdown anything that could interfere. Take basic precautions and you should be fine.
But TBH, if you're new to these phones anyway, and the ROM is right for your carrier, I'd leave it as standard - I personally always find something wrong with the cooked ROMs - missing T9 dictionaries \ SMS not working \ MMS not working \ some other detail that was missed, and I always end up going back to either my stock ROM (T-Mob UK WM6) or the HTC Update (WM6.1) but I don't notice the difference if I'm honest.
People say that whatever ROM they have on is the fastest they've ever tried but in my experience (and I'm on my fifth or sixth generation of WM phone) the difference is marginal at best and certainly not worth the trade off of broken features and multiple reboots.
So, my advice is, by all means, have a mess with other ROMs but be careful, get HARD SPL and make sure you have a ROM to go back to.
Oh, and try a hard reset (or Clear Storage from control panel) after syncing everything up to try and fix your current problems
Cheers,
Smiffy.
i was thinking about trying a hard reset prior to flashing a rom. i cant download a rom from htc and am unable to find one from att (my carrier) so as of now, i dont have a rom to fall back on. i bought the phone used and unlocked, so will a hard reset keep it that way (basically, what will a hard reset do exactly)? i am referring to a sim-unlocked state. the centennial wireless splash screen still shows up so im guessing it is still cid locked? do i need to unlock the cid before hard-resetting it? thanks for the help
The hard reset basically wipes and user-related info and returns it to a factory-fresh state - if one ever starts playing up, this is what should be done before you flash a new ROM, and yes, it will still be SIM-unlocked afterwards. It will alos go through the setup routine again as if you just took it out of the box
There are other places to get the HTC rom from - it's actually quite a good one too as it will set up all the data\MMS settings for your carrier too.
If you're not worried about any warranty, then it's good as a fallback though search on here and see what results other people have with AT&T.
CID unlocking is fairly easy if I remember - been a while since I did it and I have a different model than you. Just make sure anything you use is listed as OK for a neon
HTH,
Smiffy.
so i did a hard reset, and there hasn't been a change in the battery issues. so maybe the battery is faulty? would flashing a different rom help or should i just get a new one? thanks again
If the ROM is at fault, then flashing a better ROM would help, yes. If the battery the faulty, then even a ROM that is much more energy efficient would help little, only delaying the inevitable.
how would i know if the the problem is from the rom or the battery? other than trying a new battery that is
aight, so i got the hardspl for the neon. will that cid unlock my phone cause i cant find a cid unlocker for the neon 300. what would happen if i didn't cid unlock my phone before flashing a new rom?
Nothing would happen. Either it refuses to flash on beforehand, or it'd stop at about 1% from the start not touching your existing rom.
Hardspl is indeed the way to cid unlock your phone, as far as I know.
Please Help!
new problem here, my new battery just arrived a couple of days ago. i inserted it in my phone then let it charge before turning it on. my previous problem was that with old battery, the amber light would start blinking but not remain steady and tell me that my battery was very low then eventually turn off. the new battery's amber light was solid and i left it plugged in for 10ish hours because the light never turned green. i finally turned it on, but eventually the same problem arose. i hard-spled it then flashed a new rom which helped for a little while. the light stayed steady and the battery status rose up until 100%, but the light stayed amber. then if there was any shift in pressure on the chord, the light would start blinking and the battery would immediately read 5%. now the new battery isn't any different from the old one. does anyone have a suggestion? it would be greatly appreciated.
Anybody? Help? At the very least would anyone have suggestions of good repair sites? Thanks in advance
Helo all - I could really use a hand here. This is the second time I have faced this issue.
When trying to make a call on my 614c when the battery is low, it crashes. Upon reboot, the radio no longer works and I cannot make any calls. It just goes into a permanent "Seaching" mode.
What I've tried:
Reboots - warm and cold
Removing the battery for 30 mins
Reset to defaults
Multiple different ROMs including upgrading and downgrading the Radio
No luck.
Last time (3 months ago) I ended up sending it to ipaqrepair to be fixed.
They said:
"the un-official hacked ROM installed in combination with a corrupt / mismatched GSM Radio ROM, these are the root cause of the issues"
I had actually NOT installed a non-official ROM until after it stopped working in a desperate attempt to fix it. But when they got it, it was a 6.5 ROM.
This time, I had upgraded it to 6.5....but I have since downgraded to the official ROM an installed the. .89 Radio update.
It wont work at all and I can't justify mailing it away for another expensive repair.
Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....
Any ideas? How can I effectively "blow away" all the software/drivers and set the device up as new? IpaqRepair said it was corrupt software last time....
I've installed different ROMs via flash.dio and I tried the HP radio upgrade RUU_1.8.0_081208_MP_M089_WWE. Are their files or settings that the installs I am doing do not affect - and if so, how do I repair/replace them?
Using Sim Manager, it says the phone is not ready. It's just like the phone radio won't initialize...
This phone originated overseas (Europe) - could that be somehow causing this issue since I'm using it in the USA? Something locking or changing and no longer compatible?
Not sure what else I can do and am missing my phone. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Still fighting with this....maybe onto something now?
When I get the asset viewer information for the phone it shows the radio is present and the firmware number.
the Stack Version, Bootloader Version, Filesystem Verions and Radio GDFS versions are blank.
It does show the IMEI.
I'm guessing I'm missing file/data for the radio....but reinstalling the Radio ROM HP offers has not helped (maybe not complete - just an upgrade?)
Thoughts?
Anyone have a copy of the original ROM and .81 Radio ROM?
Maybe rolling it all the way back might get it operational again....
Official Drivers/Rom/Radio for 614c
Hi,
You can download official drivers from HP website. The forum does not allow me to post the link. Just search for "official 614c drivers" in google and you wil get the link.
Also note, please install using WINDOWS XP os as installing this using other os such windows 7, windows vista etc is not possible.
Okay - I tried installing the software from the HP Website using XP - but it still isn't working. It's just like the software for the radio is corrupted and it won't replace it (does not list the versions like it should when you look at the software inventory).
Is there any way to manually do this? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone can help me get this resolved, I'm definitely buying them a beer.
Basically the GSM just seems to be bricked. Last time a software fix resolved it, but I'm not sure what software needs to be installed to get the radio working again.
What is the best way to blow it all away and start over? Is there a way to manually delete the radio files - or to look at them for versions/dates to see what is corrupt or mismatched.

I guess, you will get enlightenment for the problem on your device at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455840
Bump.....
Still hoping for a solution. I have gone to a Glisten now, but do not like it as much as the 614c.
I'm open to any suggestions.
