Hello. Sorry about the new thread, but couldn't find an answer in 10+ google pages.
Two weeks ago I was in Chile and made two phone calls from my phone, one to a local cell number in Santiago and another one to a US 1-800 number. Yet, I was not charged for either of those calls. In fact, there is no record of the calls in the online statement. I had upgraded recently, before the trip, to VP3G's ROM. While in Chile there was no roaming icon, no warning messages and the phone connected to the ENTEL PCS network without a problem. I did forget to call AT&T and activate the roaming service (whatever that does). Is this due to flashing the new ROM? Or is it that AT&T has not been charged yet by ENTEL PCS?
I had the same happen several times while traveling abroad. I assume it is when your operator is on the way to finalize an agreement with the local one abroad. as a result, calls are possible, while the billing does not yet occurs.
Another possibility is a bug in their billing' transmissions. But remember it can easily take many days until you are charged, and even weeks sometimes!
wait till your following month's bill come... =)
roaming charges are not captured immediately due to various factors - delays on roaming partner's side, exchange rate fluctuations, etc...
i wouldn't be too happy yet if i were u..

I have a UK T Mobile Vario, and am taking it with me on my Orlando holiday in a couple of weeks time. I am really wanting to use it to send / receive quick emails.
The plan is to connect to my email, pull down the mail headers and then disconnect. With the mail items I want to read, I go back online and pull the full message down.
I want to drop quick mail messages to friends and family back home, and give certain updates to people on items I have been asked to buy, make sure they are OK with prices etc etc.
There appears to be various mobile cariers in Florida, and am not sure which my phone will connect to when I turn it on, but I know how to manually select a network.
The question is this, the villa is in the Indian Ridge development in Kissimmee, so should I select a specific carrier to get data features, or will any of the available ones allow it?
Vario is Triband so USA is not a problem.
You may be better ringing Tmobile UK and asking them which carrier is cheaper for roaming data in the area you will be travelling to. If you add international option to your account before you go ?3quid or thereabouts, you can get cheaper roaming. It may be cheaper buying a sim in the US and connecting on the local sim.
Maybe our American forum users could suggest the cheapest PAYG options. including data.
I had no coverage problems with tmobile around Orlando earlier this year.
If all else fails, most of the hotels in the area seem to have free, open WiFi
and plenty of parking ;-)
i lived in orlando with t-mobile, and never had any problems with coverage
Hi all,
Will a HTC Hermes purchased in UK work with T-MO USA
Yes as long as it is SIM unlocked.
Info is here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SimUnlock
S.K.
Yes
I'm just back from Florida and it worked fine - without unlocking. It picked up T-Mobile USA as soon as I stepped off the plane.
That's very interesting. Do you have any idea yet on charges? Did you use calls and data? It would be handy to know.
My hotel had wi-fi so I used that 99% of the time. I did occasionally use a data connection for e-mail (3G in Orlando area, GPRS some other places, nothing down south!) and the odd text message. No phone calls. Cost me around £5 when my bill came in.
Please note that I have an unlimited data plan in the UK but this does not work abroad. Also, I could not use my BT Zone account (even with partner sites such as t-Mobile) when in the US (my BT Mobilezone or whatever it is called) did not work outside of the UK either).
Still, £5 not bad at all really. Definitely a plus for t-mobile there.
Sorry to burst your bubles but...
1.) MDA Vario II is TOTALLY locked! however Pof's unlocker v3 works great.
2.) T-Mobile USa has Nothing to do with T-Mobile UK, or Germany, or any other T-moblie. None of your plans or minutes cross over, this is true all networks, Orange, Voda, etc.
This is how they screw us to the walls, imagin if they give that up? All those 1.50 GBP per minute roaming fees and 40P texts?
And data, forget about it! Even worse.
(The guy above must have sent like 3.5 texts and mad 1 call)
We may get a break with the EU next summer in Europe, (lower roaming fees, Check out O2 for this)
But you will not get b orderless roaming in your lifetimes, you may get reduced fees, which is a start. But NEVER in the US, there you will get screwed.
The best solutions is to BUY PayGo sim cards, in the US T-mobile is the best for that.
I tried to port my Sprint # over to my new Cingular/AT&T phones, and got a call from them telling me they can't do it because my Sprint phones are in FL, and I'm now it VA. I was further informed that if I (or anyone) move out of their "market" (another state) then they are required to change their phone #, being they will be more than 50% out of their area/market. WTF!?!?!?! Has ANYONE heard this? None of the poeple in the Cingular stores know about this, and we all know people here with different area codes, and nobody I know of had to change their #s!!!
Anyone?!?
AT&T can port your number over to Cingular wireless now the new AT&T even if your number is from another state. The problems occurs when you try to combine a Houston TX number with a Florida number on a family plan this cannot be done as of yet. 50% out of your area is true to an extent if you are in an area that is not covered with AT&T cell towers but you can still receive service you may be using our roaming partners. You won’t know who’s network your using but in some rare instances your house for example may not be covered with AT&T cell tower and you keep using the roaming partners cell AT&T can shut down your number with notices that is.
Hi,
I purchased an HD2 from Europe when they 1st came out, signed up with T-Mobile (a few Monthe later) to see how I'd like it as a phone (intended on using it as a PDA initially) and them dropped the T-Mobile service after about 4 Months.
Question is, will the phone still connect to 911 without a service provider and is a SIM card required to be installed (with or without active service)?
Thanks for your help!
Mike
Keep the phone with you. Next time you see an accident, call 911 from it to report it. A legal way to find out if it works or not.
Thanks for the suggestion...
911 service works from any cell phone with or without sim card or service as long as you are within range of a compatible network. Its a law. When you place a 911 call from cellular device it will place call on first available network.
Yes, but 112 is the international standard. Works in any country. Any carrier that has a band your phone supports will route it to the emergency services. I think it goes to the strongest signal, but I don't kwow what happens if your own carrier is present but not the strongest. And 112 calls are never locked (that is, you can always call 112 even when the phone is PIN locked). I'm not sure whether 911 has the same priviledge.
Thanks all!
Hi
Starting on EE. I have had my phone (GTI9505) unlocked from a shop and also had a code. The phone is unlocked and works with EVERY other network sim besides Three.
Three shows under my APN settings but all i get is no service then emergency calls only.
this has been happening for about a month now and only once (last night) did it show the network 3 before gong back to emergency calls only
ive tried 3 different three sims (coincidence) none have worked and the same 3 sims work in other phones. Did i mention that all other networks work?
ive tried changing the network mode and pressing automatic search under network operators. when I go to manual all i see is EE, O2 and Vodafone
i rang three to see if they blocked it and they assured me it was not blocked
i am on android 4.4.2, i9505XXUFNC9
How can i enter the service menu so i can have a play around with the settings/radio etc?
anything else i can do/try/flash?
You've probably just got no signal in your area. Three are probably the worst service for coverage. I've had no signal indoors for the best part of a month. Customer services just fob you off with "they are carrying out work in the area", which is not shown on their website. Absolute joke of a network. Soon as my contract is up I'm going back to tesco/O2.
