Kinda wild idea but here it goes:
I have unlimited internet access via ZTE MF600 3g/HSDPA wireless modem (service provided by Globe Telecom here in the Philippines)
and found out that it has a SIM card that is the same as a regular mobile SIM card.
When i tried the SIM, the Hermes got a few seconds of signal and then it was gone...
Knowing that hermes is capable of 3g,HSDPA and being a wireless modem, is there a possible way of getting the HSDPA SIM to work with Hermes for unlimited internet? Maybe a possible setting perhaps?
Got any ideas?
Why don't you just connect to the ZTE MF600 via wifi from the Hermes?

Can you have voice service with one carrier and just internet (gprs, edge, 3g) with another carrier? is this possible?
Theoretically, yes, but you would need:
a) A dual SIM adapter for your phone and you would have to switch between SIMs (which in some cases involves reset)
b) The carrier would have to agree to sell you a "data only" package. Such packages are usually offered when you by a cellular modem.
another option could be having a 2nd phone with bluetooth, having a sim in that device with just a data plan.
Your PDA connects to the 2nd device via bluetooth- DUN - (or internet sharing in WN6)
so when your making calls the you use 1 sim and to connect to the internet you use another device,
I use to use this method a few years back, when I had work sims, with unlimited data plans, -
the spare phone use to just sit in a bag or pocket and never had to be taken out-
on a slightly off-note,
i came across a review eith on engadget or another site a year ago, where they had this PDA that could take 2 sims at the same time and work on 2 networks at the same time, im sure it was a south Koreans or tiawnes model,
Hi Guys,
OK, here's the situation. I have an Orange SPV M600. I have an Orange SIM card inserted that has *NO* GPRS functionality (it's my corporate SIM card and they've locked down GPRS for everyone).
What I'm trying to do is dial up to the internet using dial up WAP. What would be the settings for these? All I want to do is be able to maybe send and receive POP emails on the device and maybe slowly browse the internet occasionally.
Any ideas? What would the setup setting be? ANy contributions gratefully accepted
You mean you want to dialup using plain old CSD? That would be easy if that's the case - just setup a new connection and punch in the number of the modem pool of your ISP, and that's it. You got 9.6 baud, unless you have HSCSD - but given that your company locked down GPRS....
normaly WAP also use the same "modem" as gprs
and the diff betwene real grps internet and wap is
handled at the server side depending on the AP
Changed my mind...dual SIM is now the solution!
Thanks Guys
I came up with a different solution though. A Dual SIM adapter. One for my workplace SIM and I'll buy another PAYG SIM with the cheapest data charges and switch between them when I want to make data calls etc. Seems like an ideal solution However, that opens another can of worms....
Which Dual SIM adapter do I get? It has to fit the SPV M600 (HTC Prophet) and I like the idea of being able to switch SIMs whilst the unit is online but I understand these ones really drain the battery. The other one, I understand, does not require power but to switch SIMs, you have to power the phone (or is it unit?) off and on again. Hardly an elegant solution!
I have t-mobile sim card from my phone with unlimited internet and 700 min. when i put this sim card in the t-mobile galaxy tab, it wan't late me use internet but show 3g network. i understand that is IMEI problem, t-mobile block internet access with regular phone sim cards. Yes you can but you will have to flash a custom EURO based ROM in order to do it and use the correct modem driver for your carrier.
There are several posts with instructions on how to do it here in the Galaxy Tab forums. Good Luck and be sure to read up before trying it. I have done it and its not too hard. Just be patient and read.
thanks, i was looking and cannot foud... i found and download euro rom, but it will give me 2g only, i don't want to use galaxy like a phone, i just need 3g internet connection.
to kable:
if you can drop me link, it will be so helpfully...and thank you for respond.
Have to use modem swither. 2g for calls and have 3g data.

First post.
You can't use data with a phone SIM card without possibly doing something illegal that I wont go into in this thread. Basically, the network realizes you have a phone data plan and that you are not on a device approved for that phone plan.

Hi guys,
Was wondering if you could help with something.
I am in Bolivia at the moment and working out in a remote town with little WiFi.
The phone network ENTEL here sells '4G' dongles (hdpsa+ hupsa actually)* with unlimited data for no money at all so I picked one up. Plugged it into a computer, installed the software and it connected and works great.
However when I tried to put the SIM from my dongle in my Galaxy S2 it will not work. Just says emergency calls only and does not seem to connect to anything. I have enabled packet data and apn settings seem present.
With the same phone as a test I took a normal ENTEL sim card (not from dongle) and this connected to network and EDGE data and I was able to access websites etc over mobile internet no worries (although it costs a lot).
I'm sure none of you will be familiar with the Bolivia phone networks but perhaps on basic principals you can help. IE why doesn't my dongle simcard work in my phone for data?
Thanks so much in advance.

If it's.like it is here in Costa Rica then the SIM cards used for the data dongles are coded for just that and can't be used in phones... Mainly because usage plans.are different they won't allow anyone to use it for data on phones whose plans data plans are twice as much.
Now if that's not the case there then it's probably hardware related such as in frequencies... The dongle SIM may be for a different radio band than what you're phone can pick up
My home 3g wifi modem stopped working 6 months ago so I now use my old galaxy s as the modem. The sim is data only that's meant for a dongle / pocket wifi but it works fine. Just had to enter the virgin broadband apn and that was it. The sim is a 3g sim and the phone is unlocked.
Never tried a 4g sim though. Very good chance the 4g uses a different network frequency than the phone supports. But I would think a 4g sim should still connect to the 3g/H/Edge frequencies.
