Check out www.nuevasync.com! It uses activesync to sync google calendar and plaxo contacts.
I just tried this out on a WM 5 phone and it's awesome! Problem is I can't figure out how to get it work with wm6. Any ideas?
I habitually sync to my PC so I use the official google calendar sync that automatically runs on my computer... saves processing power and energy on my phone.

I have wm 6 and can't seem to get it to work aswell..
the instructions say to put something in the domain field but that field is inactive for me so I can't put anything in there anyways
really interested in getting something like this to so I don't have to use muliple apps that don't seem to work all that well
james
does it work if you leave it blank?
no it doesnt work leaving blank, actually its like im forced to leave it blank.
I read on their FAQ page that this field has to have something in it, anything but blank to work.

Apologies because this is my fault. I updated the device setup instructions
long ago (months) when we first tested with WM6. Somehow my updated
instructions never got pushed to the live site. <slaps forehead>
So, for WM5 you need to put something in the 'domain' field to keep
the device happy, but we ignore the field anyway.
For WM6 it detects a fully-qualified username and greys out the
domain field, so there is no need to put anything in it.
There's some evidence that WM6.1 is different again in that it
strips out the domain part from a full-qualified username, so we
may be modifying the service to use a simple, non-qualified (no '@')
username in the future.
Any movement on this? I'm using a 6.1 rom and no matter what I do it keeps prompting me for my username and password. Thanks!
This does sound interesting. It would be nice to not have to bother with GMobileSync, GooSync, etc. Keep us posted.

Things I have learned regarding SPV M500 (magician) and Mac OS X
Pocketmac does not work. I have purchased both the pro and lite versions of this software and I can categorically say that it does not work. I managed to get it to sync with entourage contacts and address but the email support is very bad and after 24hrs of trying ity still does not work properly. The support system does not work either, I had several tickets started to try and resolve the problems but the support staff repeatedly requested information that I had previously stated in the original ticket requests. There is one redeeming aspect of my dealings with Pocketmac and that is that they did give a refund upon request; could this be because they are aware of the problems?
Switch to Missing Sync, it is the recommended software of mac and after using it I can see why, from the first connection to the first sync it was all plain sailing, it keeps you informed about choices it is making during the sync and was very stable. I can now sync ical with tasks and contacts. First class software. Once set up you can add and email account on the device and it allows a pass through with the settings for .mac auto detected. You simply set the delete period to 7 days on both the mac and ppc the messages are then synced on both. Avantgo works ok although you have to start the sync from avantgo, it is not automatic like on activesync.
The next problem was notes, I bet most of you work on the net on your mac and at some point want to some information from your mac to the ppc as quick and simply as possible, I searched and searched for software to do this but to no avail. Eventually I found some. What you need is an account with www.backpackit.com they allow a free account for notes, tasks and lists, it is a web based system that seems to work a treat, to allow sync between the systems you make their page an avantgo personal channel to be viewed on the device (the first time you sync do it while connected with the ppc, it will ask for a username and pass. The next thing you need is the desktop widget for os x, they connects to the backpack site and shows you previous messages in real time on the dashboard, you can add or edit items. Every time you sync avantgo picks this data up and adds it to the device. You can also add notes and lists etc through avantgo which consequently adds your data back to the widget.
How do you create an icon on the today screen which will open pocket outlook with a new message already addressed to your chosen contact. Again I looked high and low for a solution to this, my preivous post mentioned using wizbar and specifying mailto:yournumber as a command to start upon button press, this works well but as was pointed out by one of the replies it does use a lot of resources just to do a simple task, this is not necessary. I have been a calligrapher user for a while and have never really looked into the features too much, I now know that you can ad a command which can be activated by a simple written command with a circle around it, the command you need to open the mail app and address and txt is as follows:
<#start>tmail.exe
mailto:yournumber
This when activated will start p outlook with a pre addressed message.
Finally MMS message setup, I would guess that some of you have unlocked phones and need to set up mms, I am with virgin and tried the settings they provide although as you probably know the syntax is very different on a wm device so it can be quite confusing, this is a really simple tip but one that I overlooked for quite some time, I tried different settings over and over again and they would not work until I realised that the tele number you input to address the message must not have any spaces I know if sounds really stupid but I use calligrapher a lot and I was putting in the recipients number via the pen and there were obviously spaces in the number, all the messaged were being rejected for this reason and nothing to do with the settings, I felt very stupid but thought I must point this out to newbies like me.
2 other tips that I was not aware of until reading some other posts are: -
speaker phone on the magician can be activated by holding down the green call button in a call.
Pressing the green button followed by the : -
Right directional button gives call register
Left directional gives speed dials
I was not aware of either of these until reading the groups.
Hope the above helps, I am very much a newbie but love tinkering and will not rest until the device is how I like it.

All fine after deleting the setup and recreating one using POP (instead of IMPç which is not supported)
Remember to tick the incoming + the outgoing mail SSL security' option.
Remember also to set your internet Gmail' settings to allow POP.

Oops, I spoke too fast! It is logging on and synchroinising, but no email comes!
There was a problem with gmail in general today - probably for 2-3 hours...
Here's the fix!
Provided by ionide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1152463&postcount=273
There is a fix for that issue! It took me a while to find out, but it works perfectly.
In the gmail account settings of outlook mobile, add "recent:" in front of your username, Eg. "recent:kyphur"
Now messages downloaded on your PC wil still show up on your phone and vice versa.

thank you so much for this tip. I thought I was going mad, everything seemed to be set up as per instructions etc, but messages kept vanishing. Then I realised that it was opening outlook which stimulated this. Your tip has worked a treat for me.
what if I don't have it setup on my pc and only on my phone. As of right now, it synchronizes and told me it was downloading all 465 of my messages, but it showed nothing in the inbox.
Have you tried the java applet? I find it much nicer than the POP version, though the "recent" tip might make me go back.
The java applet seems throw up a ton of java errors in WM6 for me...anyone else get that?
I don't have those errors. I am running LSVW's version of WM6. The Gmail applet works fine. It did NOT work under WM5 but now it does.

I have a Himalaya and when adding a new email account it auto selects the settings. It is setting up my gmail account settings to use pop3 and I want to configure it to imap4. Running on WM6.1, can anyone help?
TIA
Great site but a lot goes over my head, it's my first pocket pc.

Yes have tried this, I can change incoming server to imap.gmail.com but the account type drop down is greyed out so can't alter it from pop3 to imap4.
It's very frustrating.
you could try to delete the account and set it up again

Thanks for your continued input!
I have also tried this, but it won't allow me to manually configure the settings initially. It says it knows what they are for gmail and only allows editing after it has done it's own thing.
I should say that I bought this second hand on ebay and it may not have all the functions that would be standard. I downloaded a manual from Orange (it's a spv m1000) and it has been flashed with WM6.1 it would have been 2003 originally. So I don't know what else has changed.
How can I help by posting firmware etc? I really am fresh out the box with this stuff, but understand how annoying newbie questions can be as I moderate on a car forum.
my himalaya died a while agoe but my new x1 dont have any problems with imap nor do i recall my himalaya did
if i were you i would try to hardreset it
Have done a hard reset and re set up the email addresses but still the same. I will just live with pop.
Thanks for taking the time to help.
one thing you could check is if you turned on imap in your gmail settings in a browser
there is a setting there one have to enable for ones gmail to work with imap both on computers and pda's
I enabled Imap in the forwarding tab in my gmail account if that is what you mean.
Must be ROM speciifc as my Himalaya has a check box when i create a new account so i can choose if i want it to automatically set up my mail server or let me do it all, if i uncheck the box then i can set it up for IMAP access to my Gmail.
Sounds like a probable cause, because it won't give me the option, it just defaults to auto detect settings. Is it possible to flash the Rom with a different firmware? Howdo I look up what is currently there?
You can flash it with any of the ROMs you will find on this forum, as to which one do you have check in System - Device Info, it may or may not provide clues. Mine doesn't and i can't remember what i last flashed.
It's either one of ather90's or c_shekhar's, really don't know which as i went through several to find one i liked.
Sounds a like culprit, I don't get the check box option. Any way to look up my firmware on the ROM and then change it for a more accomodating version.
Oops double post please delete.
For all the time it takes, about 30-45 mins per flash, i would suggest downloading a few and flashing each in turn and having a quick peek at the extras that are squeezed in. No two ROMs are the same.
Ok cheers.
Any recommendations?
Other than one by the two ROM cookers mentioned above not really, my Himalaya has become a desk bound WM6 test bed as i have a Trinity for day to day use.
ROM version 6.1.4.16.PV
ROM Date 05/20/08
Radio version 1337.38
ExtROM version Sonblack.PV
Means nothing to me but might help.
Will look at the ones you mention, thanks for all your help.

The ExtROM says it is a ROM by sonblack, he resides on pdaviet.com, IIRC. If you do a search you will probably find threads on here discussing his stuff as well.
SOLUTION!!!!
This is so simple, you'll kick yourself!
The messaging app has something built in that if it sees an email address as gmail.com it defaults all the settings...
so..
enter a diffrent email address, then set it up manually to look at gmail, then when done, edit account settings and put it back to your gmail address..
eg - these are the working gmail settings. Note the smtp server - this works best.
start with [email protected]...
don't detect settings
server imap.gmailcom:993
type IMAP
outbound server smtp.googlemail.com:587
use authentication
same as incoming
When finished, edit account settings and put in your correct email address.
All gestures of thanks gratefully accepted!
Does this definitely work?
I have followed the instructions off of Google's webpage but I can't connect.
The error says the password is incorrect. I tried changing my password with no effect.
It does definitely work. I have found that always using the full email address when the setup asks for name is necessary. Also, you need to tick the encrypted connection selection box. Server address is m.google.com.
It should work...

Cheers for the reply. Changing the username so it includes the full email sorted it.
For some reason it will only sync when google calender is turned off. It is all activated in my google settings so I have no idea why it's spitting feathers now!
Thanks for the help!
Sometimes it works, other times the server is down or has major problems (which is very often) - conclusion, it just doesn't work reliably.
I'd suggest to use SchedHandler, emails come in much faster (literally within a second) and battery consumption is much lower than gmail's acticesync solution. And it works a million times more reliably.
I have taken your advice and am trying SchedHandler. However, I am finding it tricky to get the settings right for a normal gmail account - for instance, what is 'Wheel Time Checking'? Also, when an email is marked as read on my HD2, this does not seem to feedback to the gmail server (i.e. the mail item is not marked as read on the wenmail page).

You won't need Wheel Time Checking for your purpose
I agree SchedHandler takes a little while to figure out, but after investing 10 minutes you're good to go and your life will be better - just saying.
If you need more help I suggest to ask in the SchedHandler thread, (or to do a little seach in there)

That's true, I don't think there's anything that can be done about it. It does work the other way around though.
This isn't really HD2 specific but, it's the phone that I'm using so I'm putting the thread here.
I'm trying to register on Mixi. The process starts with registering and confirming a "PC" e-mail (In my case, a g-mail account). Then, filling out personal particulars etc. etc. Finally, they ask you to put in your Japanese e-mail/phone-mail/MMS-mail account to which they send a confirmation message. I get this with no problems (many thanks again to BeeGee for helping this be possible) but, when I click the link in the message I get an error message saying there was a problem with a link to the tune of "use this link if you're on a PC".
I suspect that the problem is that the phone connects to the link like a PC rather than a Japanese phone. So the site thinks that the phone is a PC.
Now, without this final step, I can't actually complete the registration process. I have heard of the .edu work-around and will resort to that if all else fails. But having a working phone-mail address I would like to be able to use that instead.

It might be that it is expected that the link is opened in one of the strange Softbank phone browsers. The type they have on their cheap phones.
What you can try is to check the settings of your browser and set it to mobile view.
This can be done in Opera under menu/settings/display.
In Internet Explorer you go to menu/Tools/Options/Other and select Mobile Device.
Third solution, put your SIM card into a Softbank phone (not WMobile), get the confirmation email there, click on the link and it will connect thru the phones browser.
Thanks for that!
Switching to mobile view didn't work in Opera or IE.
I really should have thought of that last option myself
Thanks again BeeGee!
excuse me,,
can you help me too ?
