Gmail push - HD2 General

Does this definitely work?
I have followed the instructions off of Google's webpage but I can't connect.
The error says the password is incorrect. I tried changing my password with no effect.

It does definitely work. I have found that always using the full email address when the setup asks for name is necessary. Also, you need to tick the encrypted connection selection box. Server address is m.google.com.
It should work...

Cheers for the reply. Changing the username so it includes the full email sorted it.
For some reason it will only sync when google calender is turned off. It is all activated in my google settings so I have no idea why it's spitting feathers now!
Thanks for the help!

Sometimes it works, other times the server is down or has major problems (which is very often) - conclusion, it just doesn't work reliably.
I'd suggest to use SchedHandler, emails come in much faster (literally within a second) and battery consumption is much lower than gmail's acticesync solution. And it works a million times more reliably.

I have taken your advice and am trying SchedHandler. However, I am finding it tricky to get the settings right for a normal gmail account - for instance, what is 'Wheel Time Checking'? Also, when an email is marked as read on my HD2, this does not seem to feedback to the gmail server (i.e. the mail item is not marked as read on the wenmail page).

You won't need Wheel Time Checking for your purpose
I agree SchedHandler takes a little while to figure out, but after investing 10 minutes you're good to go and your life will be better - just saying.
If you need more help I suggest to ask in the SchedHandler thread, (or to do a little seach in there)

That's true, I don't think there's anything that can be done about it. It does work the other way around though.

Send/Receive all email accounts at once?

I have my Messaging service linked to 5 different email accounts. Is there way to receive email from all of them at once? Currently, I have to open each account, and hit the send/receive button (a bit of a time waster). I use wi-fi, so I like to receive only when there is a connection. Thanks.

Rather unhelpful I know, but given that the 'send/receive' command is only available on a per account basis I would guess you are doing the best that you can.
There may of course be other PPC e-mail clients (other than Pocket OutlooK) that can do what you want.
You might want to consider senting the accounts (each one seperately) to automatically collect the mail - then you'd achieve what you want without actually having to hit send/recieve manually. You could have this work only with WiFi or an Activesync connection by disabling the data connection - this would stop it from connecting and (presumably for you) causing expensive data connection charges. Of course if the data connection charge is not an issue then simply leave it enbaled and you will effectively achieve push mail (albeit auto pull in fact).

There is an app for this, I saw it on Energy's latest ROM, but alas, I can't find it and have jumped to ROMeOS2. I will keep looking, and post back if I find it. I am in the exact same situation: 5 accts, use wi-fi exclusively. Prefer to hit 1 button, due to my lazyness, erm, time management etc hehe.

[Push Mail] How to configure Gmail account ?

I was wondering if its possible to get pushmail for gmail without using outlook ?
Is this possible ? Am I supposed to use IMAP or POP mail ?
Please help, thanks
If you setup mail, it will automatically setup for IMAP.
You configure for how often it checks the server.
Thanks I just did that, but the problem is it checks every 5 minutes, thats not exactly push mail is it ?? It should have the option "As mail arrives"
I tried deleting an email from my inbox, but when I check online, its still there (the actual gmail inbox) .. it seems they are not really in function are they ?
EDIT : Okay The messages got deleted in the browser inbox after 5 minutes ... So the email syncs every 5 minutes
How can I make it an instant connection (pushmail) ??
Actually Outlook Mobile 2007/2010 still pulls from IMAP instead of receiving pushes (Microsoft doesn't exactly know about IDLE). You'll want to set up an Exchange connection. See here for more details about Google Sync.
You'll want to configure the server manually. You can find ActiveSync somewhere into your Start menu, otherwise just go to the Sense settings tab, Data Service and ActiveSync to configure the server, then follow the instructions from the link above.
Thank you very much, that worked, and I can choose "As item arrives" now
One last thing, is it possible to change the email name from Outlook to something else ? e.g. Gmail ?
ZaZu90, what domain did you choose while configuring the connection? I can't click next unless I choose a domain, since the activesync software is different and probably newer than the one used in the google instructions...
I followed Yunabeco's link, the domain was left blank.
You have to initiate the email settings from active sync, not from adding a new account.
Check the intsturctions ^^
Yes I am trying to do the same but as I said I cannot leave the domain blank, i HAVE to fill in something in order to continue configuring the connection...
And apparently I am not the only one with this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5382949&postcount=4
Hmm this is strange, does it have to do with the location of purchase ?
Im not sure :S
I don't think it has to do with the location of purchase. Thanks for your help though. I am using dutty's holy grail 0.3a rom (wm6.5 build 21889, Base 2.01). What are you using?
Chaps,

Might help you.

Yea, that's the same document as earlier in this thread, but the problem is that the instructions don't work on some devices.. see the previous page
I just did the Push Mail setup (used the link from Yunabeco post)
I had no problem with the instructions, but for some reason it will only get the mail when I do an ActiveSync.
The ActiverSync chedule is set to sync during Peak times (As Items arrive) and off-peak times (As Items arrive).
The Use above settings and Send/Receive when I click Send) are als set to on.
Did I miss a setting as it's not working for me the way it should, or do I need to set something in my Gmail account also?

Barty,
Surprised at this. I set this up the other day on my device in order to talk someone through it and it worked. Deleted it as I don't need push mail right now.
Wondered if those who can't get it working can put down the steps they have taken to setup on their devices and we can see how we can help?
WB
I wonder if its possible to set up multiple push mail accounts ?
Gonna search for that now, if anyone got a link before I finish my little research, please add it !

HTC HD2 and Gmail

ok, I've used the search button, found lots of stuff but not what I wanted or unclear. This is what I want: I want my mails from my gmail adress to be pushed to my HTC HD2. I want them to wake up the device and tell me, I have a mail ( like a text basically )
What do I do, what do I set up, I've tried turning on push, but it seems to be turning itself off or something, it doesn't look on when I go to the manager. If anybody can help me, that would be great. Ow, and we're talking 3G or edge, gprs, not wifi here.

There's no push feature that I know of, you set how ofter to check for new email, and in notifications you set how to let you know that you have new email.

Completely wrong.
kilrah is spot on, and it works extremely well. The only thing I would add is that it does add to battery drain, so I would disable it at night and other times it is not required. G-profile can be used for this. By the way, it will not work if you are connected to a computer using Activesync, and that computer does not allow connection to the internet (most work networks are set up this way).
so does this keep the internetconnection open all of the time, even when the phone is asleep? I suppose so?
I'm asking that because, when I put the settings on send and receive every 5 minutes, it appears as if the connection stays on after the first send and receive ( for instance, I check pxInternet and it has been connected for 40min ) and yeah, if that were to be the case, why not use push.
thx for the help so far, really, great and to the point.

Yes of course, otherwise the server would have no way to tell the phone there's something new for it. If you close the data connection in the connection manager it will warn you this also deactivates push.
I've found the idle data usage and battery drain is minimal (at least on 3G). Push on for one night drained 8% battery, which is pretty much the same as without it (~6%). Data usage was under 100kB, and I received 2 mails during the night. Makes great savings, as doing a send/receive on my IMAP account easily uses around 200kB, which would happen every 5 mins or whatever is set for automatic checking, and by extension less traffic = less battery usage...
EDGE might use more battery as there are more keepalive signals.
I agree with Kilrah, I have my calendar, contact and email all synced through google and i don't notice any obvious battery drain compared to when push is turned off.
I use ActiveSync to sync my Gmail account and the push works fine.

Because Google Sync works via ActiveSync, you can adjust the settings for ActiveSync (e.g. only during peak times). So no need to use G-profile.
PUSH mail is avalaible on GMail with HD2. Look here : http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299

At the bottom click on: "Adjust peak times to fit your schedule"

Sync issues
Anyone having any issues sync'ing with calender.
For some reason the only way I can sync at all is with that one disabled.
Currently I'm only using push with email and contacts only since the other won't work.
Can't believe I didn't know that google offered this service now...yes I just found out today reading this forum...
Been waiting too long for this...
Hello, I have some problems with gmail...
When HD2 turns off (standby), it doesn't sync my emails (haven't tried contacts or calendar yet). When I go to activesync to check what happened there are 2 possibilities:
1) If I am home (wifi always on even in standby mode) I get an error (0x80004004). Btw even with wifi on it still keeps the data connection on (?!?!?)
2) If wifi is off it starts syncing when I open activesync.
Any help would be appreciated
EDIT: Seems like there is no problem when wifi is off after all. I guess having wifi always enabled is a problem because it automatically disables 3g...

Yeah I too am interested in knowing this
I too use gmail
It has a push email server option.
It has the facility to import mail & contacts from numerous other accounts.
If your regular account is a gmail (or gmail 'family', ie Sky) account, you can forward mail from it to your gmail push email account.
This way I have a 'one stop shop' single push email account on my HD2 for my numerous email accounts. Can reply from the received account too.
I have set the option to also leave collected mail on the original server.
Have been using it faultlessly for a year.

Have read your post many times. I thought I had answered it!
Push email is delivered to your device as soon as it arrives in your server's mailbox. AUTOMATICALLY
this thread is quite comical - it seems many of us are interested in this - however people are answering it with either a totally different subject or actually not answering at all.
@RalphS - to be fair, you didn't answer it at all. We all know the email is SUPPOSE to arrive automatically once the Gmail servers or Hotmail servers pick it up, however it is not being pushed to the phone AUTOMATICALLY. You have to set a schedule for it which by default is to check every two hours unless you change it. It is NOT being PUSHED.
This is the point and also the reason "ariel123" posted a very common question most here would like a solution to.
Reading the question would avoid confusion. Clearly you did not understand the question despite "reading it amny times" - bottom line, no, you didn't answer it!

It would be easier to answer the question if the OP asked it in clear English using correct grammar and spelling. It's a bit difficult to answer something that appears to be written by a child who expects help from mind readers.
The first post certainly did seem to be asking about push email which explains why people have offered gmail as a suggestion. However, the OP's subsequent posts seem to be about downloading entire emails rather than just headers. If this is the case (and it's impossible to be certain given the lack of legible detail in the posts) then do the following if you're using Exchange or EAS:
- Click on Start>Tools>Activesync.
- Click on Menu>Options, select your exchange server and click on Settings.
- Click on Next twice, select Email and then click on Settings.
- Select Entire Message from the Download size limit combo and tick the Include file attachments option.
- Click on OK and then click on Finish.
It has been properly answered - seriously.
My incoming mail is PUSHED to my mobile AUTOMATICALLY in REAL TIME WITHOUT A SCHEDULE.
Notification of the previous post arrived, of it's own accord, @ 14:15.
I do not have my own mail server. I rely solely on the Gmail exchange server to SEND to me my incoming mail, in their entirety, PUSHED in real time, collected from my numerous accounts, all for free.
In my 1st post I gave the link on how to set up for push email.

Problems setting up my Hotmail account.

I recently updated my ROM from o2 stock 1.43 to stock 1.72. Since then I've been unable to set-up my Hotmail account. This has been doing my head in for a few days now, I've searched the forum but can't find anything that's relevant.
Here's my problem step by step: I select Add mail account then other, as Hotmail isn't listed. I then enter my e-mail address & password and click next. What happens next has never happened before when I've tried to set my hotmail account up from within a phone and has left me bewildered??
My Opera 10 browser now launches and takes me to the online Hotmail website??? WTF!!! After exiting the opera browser, I return back to the add mail account screen and I'm promptly back at square one?
Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.
Thx.
can you not input the settings for smtp, imap, pop3 etc manually???? im not sure which hotmail uses hence why i mentioned them all.
There is a few threads about hotmail mate
I wouldn't bother setting it though Sense...

If you must then you will need mail.live.com. that is they worked for me the last time I set it though Sense...

Oh you may want to update your version of Windows Live from the Marketplace

Me too, but I've fixed it
Hi,
I had the same problem when updating OS, what previously was a simple task became impossible, and as for taking me to the website, WTF barely covers it!
The answer is in the post from Neville.Holland, simply re-install 'Windows Live' from Marketplace and obey all the instructions, once the 'old WL' is removed and the phone restarts you'll find 'hotmail' is there in your list of email accounts as it was before...
Hooray
when inputing the email address at the start, just misspell it (notmail.con for instance) which prevents the wizard recognizing it. fill in all the rest of the details manually, then save it, then edit it and correct the address.
That's a weird problem, but sam's suggestion should definitely work. If not give provisioning a try. Just look around XDA and you'll figure it out.

Manual Hotmail Email Setup
samsamuel is right on! Hope I'm not raising the dead post here, just thought I can up some details for reference on manually setting up a hotmail email account as lots of light roms are without the windows live package (it's not quite a small install and it needs to reside on the device) and I've read through and met some probs on my own when installing the cabs...
So as samsamuel said, just mistype the "@hotmail.com" part when you set up your hotmail account manually in Messages. You'll skip the windows live wizard (which I don't even have installed anymore). Here are the settings that worked for me (diamond on wm 6.5):
Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com:995
Account type: pop3
Outgoing (smtp) mail server: smtp.live.com:25
CHECKED "outgoing server requires authentication"
CHECKED "use the same user name and password for sending e-mail"
Under "advance server settings": CHECK BOTH "require SSL for Incoming AND Outgoing email"
After all that, right before it starts to sync, just stop send/receive and go back to the account setting and fix the mistyped "@hotmail.com" earlier.
That's what worked for me; incoming and outgoing tested. And I'm not sure about this, but for people who want to sync more than the 50 email limit (when you setup via windows live), you might be able to do it by setting the period of download to "from the past 30 days" or I guess "all messages". I don't have that many emails as I don't use hotmail that much so you better try it out if you're interested (it might take some time to sync though if you have lots of emails... so 3g or wifi it).
thanks for the help, samsamuel!
