Any Luck With Dcd Roms? - Mogul, XV6800 General

I have installed and uninstalled one of the current dcd roms. the processes all went smoothly. I went back to stock because of poor internet performance. I have an xv6800 with verizon. I've looked around in the forums and haven't seen too much on the topic

hmmm...how much better is the stock rom on the internet? I have a DCD 2.3.2 kitchen rom and then finally gave in and got internet so i dont know anything different.

my internet would frequently discontent. I was also having trouble with downloads

I've been running dcd 2.3.2 kitchen since it came out. My internet connection works fine. I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah. I think it may have something to do with where you use your phone.
I mean in your area, you may have newer or older cell towers. They may be running different hardware or software.
Either way, my xv6800 works great with dcd's roms.

I had the 1.6.1 & I am
now running his 1.7.0
rom now & have no
problems on the net.
Everything works fine.

Radio Problems...
I actually have the same problem and I switched my phone 2 times for new ones, so I know it is not the hardware. The internet connections are just not reliable. For pulling websites and the occasional download yes but if you depend on a constant connection to communicate with dispatch servers it just doesnt perform that great.
I have to use the ESC client from Coastal Computer (doubt anyone knows what it is) for my work and it always times out communicating with the server. However if I put the stock radio, it always works. So I guess I cant have GPS on the device if I want for work.

The internet problems that are reported by some users are due to the 3.27 radio software/firmware on the GPS-enabled (3.16 based) ROMs -- not with the DCDs OS ROM per se. All 3.16 based ROMs are using the 3.27 radio... Hopefully, the new stock Sprint ROM supposedly coming out tomorrow will have new/better radio software, ao DCD can lift it for his work...
I'm using the current DCD 2.3.2 ROM/3.27 radio and the internet isn't that bad, but certainly not as good as my previous 2.16 ROM/1.40 radio combination on my Sprint Mogul...

VZW VX6800, ROM 3.56, Radio 3.42.50

Posted at PPCGeeks as well.
Okay, I have never had a problem like this until now. I recently had to replace my VX6800 because of a cracked screen. When I got the replacement, I updated to the newest Radio and cooked a ROM based on 20270. Everything works flawlessly until I am at work. I worked at a power plant where the reception in buildings is very little. The company purchased and installed a few cell phone boosters with the external antennas and the whole nine yards. Before this new phone, new Radio, and new ROM I was able to use the signal from the repeaters, now I can't. My phone sees the signal, but will not use it for data or voice. I can't even dial *228. I can walk outside and use my phone no problem. I am totally confused at what to do next. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I am also running PRL version 51056.
Well if you want to experiment, flash on Radio version 3.42.40 via MicroSD (since it's SPECIFICALLY made for this device, and not ported over)
See if you notice any difference doing that.
What were you running before?
That's excactly what I am doing now. After having posted this thread, I am reading more about the .50 and realized that is was from the Vogue. I am in the process of flashing to .40 now. I will let you know.
I downgraded my Radio to 3.42.02 and it still doesn't work. Any other Radio suggetions?

MR1 to DCD switch and internet sharing ?

I installed the MR1 update a few weeks ago hoping to have better performance, signal, edvo, and to be able to use vz navigator. I learned a few things. First VZ navigator was not bad but it does have a monthly charge and is reliant on data. I really didn't think about tomtom but I decided to purchase the software when I read about it on here. I like the internet sharing with the higher speeds but once again a monthly charge. I now know that with DCD I can access my GPS better with tomtom and I can use internet sharing without the additional cost. However I do have a couple of questions.
Will I see better performance with DCD?
Will I get the same speeds with internet sharing? Currently I am getting 700 tp 1000 Kbps tethered using verizon connection manager. I want to try the wifi router using the phone and I think it will connect better without all the verizon hassle. Any Ideas?
Maybe some others can add on the data speed....my point of view I was stock (before the MR1) and being a tech a custom rom is always better than stock and DCD rom was. Just like WinXP is overloaded with stuff you do not need so was the OEM rom for the 6800...
In all areas for me the performance is better than OEM...I travel with my company so the GPS tt7 is great thx to two members here, data rates, the ICS to my laptop in the airport is excellent, etc...as well as other stuff. I have a verizon PC cell card and I found that the ICS speed from my device is just as good and better at times...
my two cents...
Ok, thanks what about changing the PRI. I have read that you only had to flash to the new rom amd leave the radio and PRI in place and use agps. any thoughts?

Google Latitude

I have HTC Touch (sprint) and want to run the new google latitude that was just released. Has anyone had luck getting this to work? I am still running WM5 on my touch.
it did work on mine but i dont c the point on it since the other person needs to have the google maps and most of my friends dont even know what that is
I'm running it on my vogue and my wife's vogue successfully...
A word to the wise, NFSFAN has integrated Latitude into his new Beta 3 Rom. I would strongly recommend you unlock your phone and flash to this custom rom; it is leaps and bounds above WM5 on the Vogue... just my $.02.
I tried to install it, but upon signing in , I get a message that it can not find a data connection, although I do have a connection.
I tried to reinstall several times, same thing, I run NFSFAN rom for sprint 1.8
I installed it last night and it's working just dandy on my Sprint Touch.
I'm running an older version of NFSFAN's rom and had to uncheck gps before it could connect. Then rechecked it and it works fine.
I'm running a stock bell rom and lattitude works great for me.

Was 3G now G

Flashed T-Mobile 1.43 to generic 1.66 which has improved the loud call volume and distortion greatly. But the network now says G rather than 3G are they the same?
Does this mean the network settings have changed. I have selected T-Mobile as the network internet.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
3G is as you expect 3G, G is GPRS which is deffinately NOT 3G speed.
Chances are the rom you have installed has 3G mode off by default. Open Comm Mannager and you should find some toggle switches, one for data connection, and another for 3G. If the data connection one is on, but 3g is 'off', you will get G or E (for edge), but with the 3G one 'on' you should get H (HSDPA) or 3G
Tlooked through the settings and there is nothing that switches 3G on or off.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks.
Suggestion:
Flash to Dutty's HG v8, which is based on the t-mobile ROM and has this option (and is much better than 1.66 stock, IMO)
I don't know about you since you are on T-Mobile, and if there is a 1.66 ROM released explicitly for the T-Mobile net, but I'll share my knowledge on this:
I'm located in Sweden and use the HD2 on the Tele2 net. I also upgraded to 1.66 and got the exact same problem as you.
I tried the 2.07 rom and the problem remained, however after 2-3 hours I finally got 3G connection.
The problem is that both 1.66 and 2.07 comes with newer radios. These Radios are the reason I can't use 3G at least. I downgraded the Radio to 2.05.51.05_2 and it all works fine for me now. I don't know if this is operator related or hardware related and hence I'd like to know if the 1.66 ROM you installed is explicitly released for the T-Mobile net.
If that's the case I'll probably need to contact my vendor since I'll probably not be able to use any of the newer Radios, which frankly sucks. Please let me know!
I have the 1.66 on Virgin UK (Tmobile and the 3G has not dropped at all.
Don't know if that helps or confuses ?

Ild rather have the choice, than no choice at all. Dutty's ROM has been the only flashes ive needed since T-Mobile stock ROMs.
The ROM is the latest 1.66 on the HTC website. I asked T-Mobile about it but the person did not really know. They asked if the internet connection was fast, but since I've had the phone it has been patchy. It seems reasonably fast today. We have two other T-Mobile phones, HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy and both these also show the G and these are non flashed standard as bought.
I'm a bit nervous about using cooked ROMs.

Went over to Hungerford this morning and 3G came up so it must be a network/location issue and nothing associated with ROM 1.66.
Good to know all functionality is still there.
Thanks for all the replies.

As I said, in my case it took a couple of hours (no matter location) and the 3G appeared. Could you do a soft reset when you get the 3G at Hungerford and see how long it takes before you get 3G again?

[Q] .50 Radios on stock 1.66?

Right since this place has gone android crazy over the last few months, I thought I'd give it a go. Went through all the instructions, updated hspl to 2.08 updated radio to greater than 2.08. Ran android, boot screen shows all the boot up text then melts away into two lines, then....nothing (left it half hour just black screen and green flashing led). Anyway, reading though the 19900 posts on android I stumbled upon a post saying that to run android you need to flash a .50 radio not .51 What I want to know is as I am using the wwe stock 1.66 can I flash a .50 radio with no ill effects or will I have to flash a new rom as well?
If it means flashing a new rom then I'll just stick with WM as I've got my phone running nicely and haven't needed to mess about with it at all (to get it working!) for months
You can flash the Radio ROM only. As you are not using a TMOUS HD2 then there is no problem with bricking your phone.
I am currently using the 1.66WWE ROM and 2.10.50.08_2 Radio ROM.
I don't know how well this works with Android, as I like WinMo.

Ok cheers for that, will give it a go. Won't be using android as a day to day option, just want to try it out see what all the fuss is about.
Be careful: I tried THAT already (updating my radio on my 1.66-ROM Radio 2.06.51.07) to run Android but found out that all upper radios 2.08 and higher) from the radio-thread do partially not work on my HD2 (some of the basic functions Phone/WiFi/Wireless Router/HSPA etc. didn´t work anymore after upgrading).
So after flashing new radio CHECK EVERY function of radio if it´s working as before.
I had to go back to 2.06.51 to get my smooth running of my HD2 again with all Radio features working flawless.

Got to admit after flashing 2.09.51 yesterday it actually improved things, got hsdpa at home (4 bars as well) never had anything other than gprs as I live in an old quarry, lowest it has dropped to is 2bars of 3g so as far as dial up connectivity is am better off. Not had other issues with wifi, phone or messaging either, not tried bluetooth or wifi router yet but would assume that they are fine also. Obviously if things do start going ary I'll flash the original back
BTW android now boots and runs like lightining!
So I give it a last chance. Didn´t try 2.09.51 (goofed the line and thought it´s for TMOUS). Tx for the tip
Did You change rilphone.dll and if yes to which version ?

Hi djingonthenet,
Can you confirm you have flashed the radio to 2.09.51 and not 2.09.50? Any issue observed so far?
I have the same configuration as your HD2 and would like to try the Andriod but worry that the radio may cause unknow issue to my HD2, eg phone,3g, or wifi, etc.
