I'm currently using my Shift as a tablet along with the finger print reader to populate my password at logon.
Our domain policy insists that Ctrl-Alt-Del is pressed to allow password entry. Although the main logon screen says use the "Windows Security button" (in substitute to pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del) I cannot find out where this mysterious button is.
Any ideas anyone? - HTC Support 2nd line support haven't!
This is no problem.

Work around \ Solution
I received a call from HTC 2nd line support on this.
There is no complete solution to this as there is NO Windows Security button. If you domain policy states that CTRL+ALT+DEL is requied before logon then you'll have to use a keyboard.
This aside, there may be a chance that your domain policy does not require this one way or another. If the policy is NOT set then you need only go to the Local Security Policies (in Administrative Tools) and disable the policy that requires you to use CTRL+ALT+DEL. Fortunately this works for me.
As for the guy who had a solution but won't share it - this forum works on people sharing information, if you're not prepared to do that then I suggest you lurk elsewhere.

I don't know if you looked at the keyboard, but you can find all the keys there.
I also have my Shift in a domain and I'm also required to press ctrl + alt + delete
This is absolutely no problem. Off course you have to use the keyboard en no there is no windows security button (As far as I know)

I replied because of the ctrl + alt + del keys.. I don't know anything about the Windows Security button.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hello all,
I would like to introduce a software which using CTRL/ALT key on your Universal.
Here is a link to download.
http://1942.rocketspace.net/PQz/PQz20051119_0015.zip
Espcially, It has been designed for Japanese.(IME Atok)
(I'm not sure it works or not in other languages.)
Thanks.
OK, I'm not brave enough...
<JarJar Brick Warning>
Anyone else willing to run an executable from an unverifiable source :?:
</JasJar Brick Warning>
Tom's other 2 posts are innocuous enough, and started over a month ago, so it doesn't look like someone who registered just to post a trojan.
Tom, can you tell us if you've tried this, how it works, and where we can find a URL that lends it some cred?
Here's what I could find that might help (Jap translated page). Looks like a competition to write such a proggie:
http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?h...=50&hl=en&hs=vfu&lr=&client=opera&rls=en&sa=G
Woohoo! I found a few more Jap/Chinese pages, and developed a level of comfort that this was a competition, and that the app exists and does what Tom suggests. It's AWESOME! U get a little icon on the title bar (would like to get rid of this some time), and it changes to show ctrl and alt mode. You can set different keyboard keys to be ctrl and alt, and when u press them u can now move backwards and forwards 1-word at a time and all the other things u would expect.
Nice going Tom - sorry to have been so circumspect. We would love for you to tell us more about what those darned clever Japanese dudes are doing for the Universal.
PS: For n00bies, put this exe file in your \windows\startup folder. Right-click icon for settings. Set ctrl to be your WIN key, and Alt to be your SYM key and you're a-for-away! Uuh, on second thoughts, I've no idea what the alt key does for me, so until I figure that out I'll keep my sym key as is
PPS: Sorry VJ - you were beaten to it! No worries tho, you can focus on some of the other stuff we're all dying to see...
Woohoo! Ctrl-Q,Del,A,C,X,V I expected - but Ctrl-Z is just a big fat bonus!
Most excellent! Any chance for an "ESC" key?
Wow, that's nice!
V
Hi all,
and thank you for your interest.
Last few weeks, I've been developing this app and not finished yet.
I will write a user's guide as soon as possible.
PS.heidy
I think it not hard to implement 'ESC'.
cheers

Hi francorg,
>In the setup page:
>what do the 2 IME list do?
You might be using single byte charactor like English if you don't use IME.
We japanese have to convert from single byte charactor(alphabet) to Japanese. (Chinese/Koria are same)
Alphabet <----(IME OFF/ON)---->Japanese
The settings are used for Japanese Input.
If you don't use IME. You can choose IME [none][N O].
that the best way to you.
thank you.
brilliant - thanks!
is tough choosing which key to lose though for Ctrl.... think i'll start with CAP LOCK - i've kinda got used to using Fn, Windows, Sym etc.
but finally - i can use command-line stuff like putty properly!

Great software, great guide. Thanks!
Working while keeping the ctrl-key pressed?
Great software! Thank you for that.
To make it perfect in my eyes, it would be great, if it would work as well, as long as you keep the key pressed. I would need it to jump word by word keeping the ctrl-key pressed and moving by hitting the arrow-keys. Would that be possible?
Regards,
Jogi

I agree - this is how I would want it to work.
I haven't tried this software yet but I want to. Can anybody answer this question please? The user guide didn't seem to give me the answer:
Can I program the software to give me <FN> + <SHIFT> = <CTRL> ?
I.e. can I hold down FN and SHIFT to get the Ctrl function? Is that a combination of keys that's supported in the dropdown selectors? I don't want to lose an existing key to get the Ctrl function if I can avoid it.
And yes, I want everything!
Superb. Makes my Exec a whole lot more useful.
Has anyone figured out how to copy some text as any highlighted text gets wiped out when you enter 'C'
Mike
ctrl+c it just works. Doesn't clear the text at all.
is there a way to use the button mapped to Ctrl solely for Ctrl?
I use "CAP LOCK" as Ctrl, and although it works fine as Ctrl, when I start typing again, my writing is all in caps :-(
I search and found something called PocketDyndns, however i never able to reach the site, does anyone know other programs can do ???
Since I want to config my firewall will only allow me to telnet in, however GPRS is not a fix IP, so I hope i set my firewall to recognize the xxx.dyndnd.org all i need is to update my IP to the DNS record.
Ever heard of the hidden, hard-to-find, brand-new and useless search machine Google? Here you can click on the second link and voila!
i know this thread is old, but anyone got any better leads i swear i been up and down and thru that list but whatever was the 2nd link isn't available anymore.
Nor does there seem to be much else.
It would be very convenient for the ftp, http, inbound via GPRS people if a ActiveSync/"Internet" aware PocketPC/Windows Mobile Dynamic IP app was available.
Any ideas?
Yup, it seems it has been completely removed from http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/dyndns/ . The parent directory, which is visible ( http://www.networkdweebs.com/stuff/ ) doesn't contain it any more.
Therefore, mail the dev at [email protected] and ask them how you can get the app. Please also post a message in here too if you get any positive answer.
I just find that site...

I have a Sprint Touch and it only has one hardware button that is customizable. I was hoping with HButton I would be able to map the Send and End key if I pressed and held these buttons to do different tasks.
Is this possible with this program? If not, is there a way to do it?
I think you might be in luck....
Ten minutes ago, I wouldn't have been able to answer this question, but having just read this post, I can safely say that this is the way to do it!!!
Hope it works for you

Actually the "Bible" also mentions AE Button Plus. This will allow mapping of almost any key including a long/short press for both the send & end keys.
It's a retail proggy, don't remember the cost, but I have a fairly new Beta version if you want to give it a go & test it . PM me for details if you wish.
This is for a different phone and you may not have the same files/configs, but hell, might be worth a try.

Dear developers,
I have a kind of sickness called reading.
So I bought this lovely monster but despite I have installed the "friendly" showcase I have some problem in reading using my dictionary(slovoed)
To switch on the fly between album(I have scanned books..lovely) and slovoed, or slovoed and ubook/ereader/foxit reader/adobe/opera I have to push the windows hardware button and then tap on the application. Now the problem arise because I read always in my leisure and I have to follow the procedure outlined above every day thousand times!
I thought that could be really usefull if I could use the volume up and down as in windows xp we have alt+tab.
Ok I am aware that I could install a button hardware sw, but the problem would be that assigning to an hardware button the launch of the task manager, then I have to tap the application i am looking for. Anyway I would remember with opera is not pratical to use a classical showcase tsk manager because you have to tap before to obtain the external gui.. and furthermore it is not pratical at all do not use switch between the wi fi and roaming having the task manager inserted on default
thanks

Hi, only a suggestion: LMT has a builtin taskswitcher. Use the onscreen gestures "DoubleArrowRight" and "DoubleArrowLeft" for "nextApp" and "previousApp" (alt+tab).

mmh thanks but it is a waste of time to write on the screen when I could switch with the apps with the volume, I think it is really pratical, and to be honest I can not figure out why none thought about that. I think everone would desire such a fast application, I mean one of the key issues using a pda has always been the lack of praticity in this kind of multitasking functions, but of course it is my idea

Erm.... His answer is NOT a waste of time. It is almost exactly what you have asked for and will 100% solve the problem that you have proposed. Can you please tell us why it HAS TO BE the volume buttons that flip applications? You told us that you want to switch between 2 different apps, back and forth, and the answer given above does exactly that. Please give a different suggestion as to the use of volume buttons, rather than an impractical one.

I apologize! I will try the software recommended. anyway I have monitored an other issue, when I switch applications especially with the notes, that I love to use jointly to swaype, unfortunately for some reason the keyboard change to the default one, that for me has less effectiveness than swype that instead it is really cool to write notes on the fly of the document I suppose to read.
cheers dear chap, good for you that do not need a dictionary to look up English words like me . Anyway I have to consider that also when I open my books scanned on album when I switch I have tracked some issues, being the page focused not the one I have formerly open, but the total thumbnails/previews.
OT btw I apologize also for my English, just one year of practice

I've just installed the free AE Button Plus and I note that there is an Alt Tab function which you could assign to a hardware button on the HD2.
Better yet, just assign each of your many programmes that you mentioned above (slovoed/ubook/ereader/foxit reader/adobe/opera) to different buttons and you can launch any programme you want instantly - directly. No need to cycle through Alt Tab to find the programme you want.
You may ask - HD2 does not have enough buttons for each and every programme I use? Well, AEBPlus recognises single button press as well as double, triple and long hold button presses meaning that each button can have up to 4 assigned actions. There are some restrictions to this though - see the above forum.
Hope this helps!

For those of you who need help with Permission, these are the steps to enable you to change the Registry settings.
Click Edit > Permissions. Click Advance and change Owner from System to your own user name, then Apply, then OK. Add your username into the "Groups and user names" under Security. Give yourself Full Control. Click Apply and then OK.
Now edit the Registry. You may also want to revert back to default settings by Removing your username under Security. Then go Advance, change Owner to "System" and click OK.
- Charles
Nope...Didn't work for me, as expected...I Changed owner, granted Permissions and Deleted the Registry key BUT I still see the activation text at the bottom right corner. Does this mean that it didn't work or simply that it worked however the text still remains?
I just turned off internet, click on activate (after I changed product key) and the activate by phone came available. I called them, and using the automated system, I got my 9200 build RTM Pro activated! When it asked how many computers I installed it on, I replied 1.
Removed watermark and I have my very own activated version of Win 8 RTM Pro! I'm putting on my Laptop next!
I am assuming that the above work by extending the activation period. So the usual rearm takes about 90 days and you can do up to three times but this one basically extend it to whatever days you want.
It doesn't work if you just change the settings. You need to rearm it. Google it on how to rearm your OS
- Charles
Please don't post methods to remove or extend Activation. if you want Windows 8 activated, buy it when it's released.
