Hello, long time lurker here finally posting
I got the Touch Dual 2 days ago on Orange, and so far ive been pretty perplexed by the reception. It is consistently 1 or 2 bars lower than my old Blue Angel that i have sat next to it, and it loses signal at work in places where my previous TyTn never did. The main problem however seems to be regaining signal after losing it. It will stay offline for literally hours...the only fix is to switch it off and on again, and even that doesnt always work. The strange thing here is the 3G icon comes back up instantly and it will go online even though it cant make/receive calls.
Is it a dud handset, something wrong with the network or can anyone shed any light on the matter? I really want to avoid getting a replacement from Orange as i have already had 5 refurbished TyTn's since Christmas that were all faulty.
have you flashed a different radio to it or left it with the original?
I had flashed the latest from NetRunnerAT folder but started having the same problems, reflashing the original sorted it out
happen the same to me,
i change the config to gsm only. that helps.
still im looking for a signal booster cos i think its a touch dual matter.
maybe it can help a little. at least thats what i heard. im thinking about a generation x.
dont know yet.
what u think?

ha...changing to GSM only jumped the signal from 1 bar to the full 4. Kind of annoying such a small thing should make such a huge difference
Thanks for the tip!
I think this is more to do with HTC phone as I have a nokia which when side by side with my touch the nokia gets a full 3g signal and the touch only get 2 bars.
I also had the problem that it takes ages to pick up a signal after being in flight mode or doesnt pick up a signal at all. Anyway I ended up sending it to HTC for reapir (for this and many other problems) have just got it back from repair and they said the replaced the mainboard but it does seem to be picking up a signal now.

has anyone else had the problem of loosing reception for no reason...after a soft reset i have full reception...but that happend last nite and just now...the fones in standby mode :S
i've had a problem "losing" signal, but i think that's just because Cingular reception isn't the best where i work, but at home it's actually full bars all the time.
r u using wisbar advance? if u r, then its a known issue..they are workin on it to get it resolved..
im on tmobile usa. not only does my mda looses its signal but also when it does, it becomes a pain to get it back...it normally takes me a minute or two to get my reception back...
hmmmm mine seems fine now...i dont know why it was doing that :S :?
I've noticed that twice so far on mine...for no reason, it searches for signal in an area where i have never had problems with reception. Maybe Cingular was working on their network during those periods...who knows.
Today was the first time I lost signal since I got this phone (with the exception of a room that's been jammed) and the cause:
A couple of hours ago I had my phone on my desk inside one of my note books (yes my desk is messy ) and as I was lifting the note book, the phone slipped through and hit the floor and came to rest with the mini SD 1/2 way out.
Later my friend comes looking for me and said the phone doesn't ring. Turns out my SIM had become dislodged and was about 1/3 the way out  Put it back in properly and all is well.
Might want to check the sim.
I've had the same problem...at home I frequently have a full set of bars...the all of a sudden I have no bars...then its a pain to get it back; sometimes requiring a reset. It's a real pain. Anyone else have this problem and found a solution; I am running the test ROM
This kinda thing happens to me with my XDAIIi and its because i use a cheap (slow) SD card, it somehow interferes with the radio when inserted, so i have it popped out all the time.
It might be the same thing with the wizard, what kinda mini SD card do you all use?
Hi there,
I got a Tytn since about 2 months now. I never used the image that it came with but since i tried about 3 or 4 different images and at least 5 different radio versions, I am seeing the device acting really strange. The symptoms I see are:
- device locks up while in sleep mode and sms / calls are not being anounced / logged
- devices loses reception really often, switches to gprs when it had 3g reception 1 sec ago, doesnt want to do calls on the first try(sometimes I need 4 tries)
Sometimes I can solve the problem by setting the device to flight mode and then back to nonflight mode.
Im not sure if it is a hardware problem with my device. When I got it I was barely able to get the stylo in the device or out. Since a few weeks, after some thin foil coming out of the stylus sloy, the stylus goes in fairly easy. Im not sure if that messed up something with my hardware, for example some antenna connection or sth like that.
Do you got any ideas what I could try to fix the problem? Or would sending in the TyTN be the best way to solve that problem?
Thanks for your help,
Pascal

The problems you outline have all been dealt with in various places in this forum. Use the google sticky post to search.
Some of the more practical issues - stylus, hanging/freezing are dealt with here but also at my mini hermes site:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com
However I might be tempted to go for an exchange given the range of issues you have and what may be damage to the radio. (I am not convinced there is damage - the dropping calls issue has a work around - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299070 that allows you to choose a set band.)
Depending on where you got the phone may determine whether you need to return it to OEM ROM before returning (if that's what you choose to do)
Mike
I guess I will just go for a return of the phone. I still got a Nokia e61 lying around here. Does anyone of you have any experience with the htc support? I boght the phone at an o2 shop in germany. I guess they will go for a sendin to the manufacturer.
Cheers
Pascal
I just returned my tytn to the shop today. Too many problems with this device. Could anyone of you tell me if that is usual problems or if the tytn runs fine if it is not being touched?
If it does I will get a tytn again, if not I guess i will go for a blackberry or a palm treo, or just stick to my old phone (nokia e61)
Any ideas?
Cheers
Pascal
mine works fine... havent experienced the sleep of death or anything of the sort.. some people seem to have it more with certain roms than other people.. but mine over all is working good...
update your ROM
Hello,
To resolve your problem , you need update the ROM to version Black Diamon, 01-04-2007, radio version 1.07.03.10.
My phone doesn't vibrate anymore.
I've had it for 4 months now, and it never really experienced any real severe injurie but for yesterday I droped it in my car. Though I am not really sure it wasn't broken before. Anyway, now I can get it to vibrate sometimes, once to 4 times max, but then nothing.
Has any of you ever experienced such a breakdown ?
Yes i have,
there are 2 tiny screws above the vibrator. Last month one screw came loose and felt into the vibrator of my phone. mabey thats your problem. Do u heare someting inside when you shake with your phone?
Greets
nope, not really.
and I am too scared to open the phone. better wait 'til next week when I come back home and go straight to reseller to use the warranty.
thanks for the answer though, I feel less alone.
actually I am experiencing many problems at the same time...
I never could connect through GPRS or any 3G stuff, but I assume my provider is in fault. And I just installed WM6 by Faman, and can't even connect to GSM now ! I am going to reflash to normal WM5.
Hope they just change me the phone without arguing (and why not give me a P3600i instead ? yes I know, I'm day dreaming...)
With a lot of help from CMONEX I got my device booting up and I now have a working, booting device. Previously I had been unable to boot the device or update it at all due to having a REALLY old radio running on my preproduction device which didn't let any .nbh flash.
Now I have a new problem and I'm not sure if it's a pure hardware fault or radio firmware incompatibility with my older device....
I put my sim in, boot the phone and it recognises the card and sets up mms etc fine....then I notice that my signal is really bad - like, one or two bars. In my iPhone with another contract T-Mobile SIM in I'm getting full bars.....
I test an Orange SIM in the handset and it can't find ANY signal.
So I take the phone to work (luckily in a way as my iPhone uses a tethered jailbreak and restarts on me, meaning until I get to a pc and run Blackra1n I can't boot it past the Restore Mode screen). I cannot get a signal at all indoors, but upon leaving work I head into town and BANG - full bars, HSDPA. I get on the bus, signal stays, but then as I start to move the signal keeps dropping. By the time I get home again I'm down to one...maybe two bars. Often in the house the signal will disappear completely and I will lose service.
I have tried the latest radio and a preproduction radio an both show the same issue.
Does anyone have any experience of something like this happening? If it is a hardware fault, what caused it in their device? Could my early hardware simply need something doing to it in a software level to sort things out?
As I said, I CAN get service, I CAN receive calls and texts, but my signal is appalling unless I go outside in the centre of town. It is as if getting, keeping and maintaining service is the least of its priorities!
If anyone can help here I'd be very grateful. I don't want to take the device apart if I can help it as everything is so carefully and tightly packed in there that I fear I'll never put it back together again, and I've heard a scare story or two....
Thanks in advance.
Radio problem
Hi there...my sugestion is too not even think opening your unit...you might damage your HD2.
This seams to be a soft problem...If you are able to reflush your unit using a goldcard will be a first solution and use WWE room (European).
Next step is to take your time as I do and wait for release of HSPL and there you GO man...your world is open for you for all kind of ROMS's and Radio.
Regards
What radio ROM are you running? It could cause an issue like this, or could it be something to do with the preproduction hardware not being identical to the release hardware?
try bsb tweaks. it has a radio de-emphasize option. might help

Thanks i'll give that a try.....what does it do exactly???
Further update. I turned radio de-empahsise on and it seemingly made little difference. However when fiddling with advanced connection settings suddenly my signal shot up to 5 bars with 3g....it then quickly ebbed away to a complete lack of service! Very disappointed.
More and more I'm starting to think this might not be a hardware issue as such but a problem with my proprietary radio hardware and the radio software for shipping HD2s. Is there any way to test what's going on with the radio to see what's going wrong?
I've tested four different ROMs, two of which had different radios. I've also tested all ROMs with a test radio, and all have the same disappointing result. The only difference I found was that one of the ROMs made my device recognise only 340mb of RAM as existing....
All further help or experience in this issue will be much appreciated.
the reception on the stock hd2 isn't amazing but its not as bad as yours sounds. although mine can jump from a couple of bars to none instantly with a movement of about 10 cm. in the house
it could even be down to the previous owner dropping the one you bought..
may have dislodged something
the radio 206 gives best results for me so far, but I hope htc can come up with a better radio, although nothing they can do will help compensate for vodafones crap coverage locally.
curious does wifi show the same symptoms?
Wifi/Bluetooth etc work fine. I don't think anyone has the the same problem as me: it's definitely not my network as I'm sat with an iPhone 3gS and the HTC HD2 both with T-Mobile Flext 40 contract SIMs installed. The HD2 has no signal and a big fat exclamation mark; the iPhone 3gS has full bars and the 3G logo lit up nicely.
I have 2 HD2's running android 2.3.5 using the CyanogenMod-7-09222011-Nightly-Desire[TyphooN_v3.6.5-MAGDLR build#GRJ90
My phone never has any issues, but my wifes phone has crappy signal. 2 bars to no bars to no network at all.
I looked at every setting on both phones and noticed her radio was an older version. Ah Ha! I said. Let me flash it with the same version I have and that will be fixed. NOPE.
My basband version is 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
hers I forgot, I know it was a lot older.
So I downloaded the radio (same as what I'm using) and booted into the 3 color screen 2.08.HSPL. From there I connected her phone to my computer and ran "CustomRUU.exe" with the RUU_signed.nhb file.
It went to 100% and all seemed to be fine. It rebooted and I can look into the settings/about phone and now the baseband versions are identical.
But hers still has the crappy signal, most of the time.
I've downloaded older radios and tried them 4 different ones and all act the exact same way as hers did in the beggining.
Now I don't know what to do. I've even started from scratch. Using HD2 NAND toolkit wipedTask29, reinstallled MAGLDR v1.03 by Cotulla and HSPL.
Not sure if anyone needs anymore info to help me.
I've searched and searched and no one seems to have this issue.
Could it be a ROM? Did something not flash correctly?
I am a NOOB but have friends who walk me and taught me these things and even they are confused.
Thanks.
Turn off that better device (or only wifi), check does second works better.
Or replace places of devices.. maybe something disturbance signal.
At last.. maybe try other, older radio - newer not means best.
done that. Since I'm at working with one SIM card as I'm testing, my other (good) phone is turned off.
Also tried older radios.
I also just noticed that instead of "H" or "3G" or "E"(edge) i get a "G" for my data. Just to add to the other crazy stuff.
If you search in the android general section there is a post about how there are a few little connectors between the main board and the phone body that of the phone has been dropped or taken apart can lose their connection leading to poor reception. I'll see if I can locate it and post you a link.
And here you go, check it out.

Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
I had the same exact problem with my phone. I researched it and finally found the answer here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190180
It worked wonders.
Wow, Thanks so much, I will try that.
It's funny, before I read this I was messing with her phone and it fell backwards and the signal jumped up. Unfortunatly it didn't last long.
I also noticed the way she puts her phone in her back pocket!. She did this with her old iPhone (which is a lot more rigid) with no issues.
Now I'm guessing that she bent it to the point where as you have found that the contacts are not making good contact.
I'll try this fix and reply what I find.
Thanks a million again
steviie8, click the above link and try it for yourself, it really works ! I fixed mine in 15 mins and now my weak signal HD2 gets full bars, miracle has happened
It worked!!!
Thanks guys,
Unfortunately, I snapped the one contact off, I resoldered it worked fine.
Unfortunately, in the process of dismantling, I cracked the LCD.
I put everything back together and see a nice black circle in the corner.
I'm on my way to get the new part. So let that be a lesson to all of you, When they say the contacts are weak and easy to snap off, they mean it.
My problem from the LCD was do to not having the proper plastic tool to take the phone apart. Live and Learn.
