any ideas where can i find parts? and how much is it
They crop up on ebay sometimes. You're looking at a cost which amounts to about a 3rd of the cost of a new device, if not more.
The screen is only seen on the athena and is not produced en-mass like many qvga screens are, mainly because very few people own them and only t-mobile carried the device (on a limited scale) in Europe.
Prepare for a very sore wallet, unless you're insured. And don't try to fit it yourself or you could wind up paying out afresh.
See how much HTC would charge you to fix it first. If it's not worth the amount, connect that bad boy to a LCD and backup everything you need. In the case of it not being worth the amount for repair, I would part it out and sell them on ebay. Most people are in need of various items for the phone (including housing). Just my 2 cents, but I would check with manufacture first to see how much they would charge you for a new screen.

So I lost my Vogue and decided on getting a mogule as a replacement. (In between I had a BB 8703e, which was a terribly boring phone. 16 megs of ram, not SD card support, no music, no wifi, no Roms to play with, etc)
Anyway, I ordered one off ebay with had a "Scratched screen". It was $107 (the retail price at telus was $549).
The scratched screen turned out to be an LCD crack which made half of the screen black.
I took it in to telus, and showed it to them. I said that it had been droped (no lies there, just a guess) and asked how much it would cost to fix it. They said that they didn't fix those things but that I could replace it for $125.
That was suprisingly pleasant. No questions asked. No waiting. No home brew electronics work (I've done a fair bit of this on wifi's parts and other gadgets, it can be fun, but I am not that talented and time required, along with the risk of destroying the phone made the option unpleasant).
Also, I was not able to find anyone selling P4000, Titan or equiv screens for anything less than $150.
Yeah, that is their standard, they send the device in for warranty work and send you a refurb, if it is determined that it does not qualify for warranty they simply charge you $125.
I dropped my hd2 on concrete and cracked the screen but everything still works perfectly fine. now ive gone over all of my choices and they are:
(i do not have insurance of any kind)
-Buy a new digitizer (which is what i believe to be broken) and replace it myself, which ive heard is either very hard or not possible(risk destroying the lcd in the process
-buy an already assembled digitizer+lcd screen and totally replace my screen (which is more expensize but less easier to screw up in the repair)
-send it to htc
so these being my three options, what do you recommend i do to solve my problem? thanks
take out insurance with such a great device, lol sorry send it to HTC man, do you really wanna break it even more, and secondly don't drop it??
As you stated the first option is insanely hard and really not recommended unless you are a proffessional.
the second option is a little easier and there are relatively good guides available,
after a quick search, here is a very good set of pictures showing the process:
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc_hd2/
there are more guides available and I have a .doc file with a guide in it if you need further help.
the third option is pricy but obviously the safest. If money is not a serious object for you I would be leaning towards this. unfortunately you do own a very expensive phone so you are somewhat expected to be able to pay the huge repair fees associated with it.
So the choice is obviously entirely yours but i would lean towards a 3>2 > 1 decision depending on your money situation and your skill in micro electronics.
As the above poster does say insurance is a neccessity with this device, generally insurance for these phones is between £3-£5 a month, really not a bank breaker.

I pay £120 a year to insure mine. I'd not trust a £3 policy that's for sure!
what do you get extra froma £120 insurance?
i have checked my insurance documents and the only things it doesnt cover are general wear and tear and if the phone gets damaged during a war (why this is stated I have no idea )
It does however specificaly mention it covers accidental water damage and also damage from broken screens and cases.
so I really dont see what I would be missing from this insurance over some more expensive insurance?

Maybe I am just paying for the 'privilege' of being with O2UK, sounds about right.
mines not with a carrier, they always rip you off since they can pretty much guarantee people will take their insurance if they just add it on automatically. Just need to do a bit of price comparison to find the best.
Mine probably isnt the cheapest but it does cover all the things I need it too, some of them are a little sketchy on water damage and screen replacements.

Who is your policy with? I could really do with canceling mine then. The only reason I pay so much is I've had 2 replacements with my Diamond a year or two back and one with my Kaiser 3 odd years ago, they had no qualms about swapping the phones at the door and just giving me a new one.
Most will insist you send them back and they leave you phoneless for up to a week before they will send a replacement.
I hear what you saying about carrier insurance but mine is £6 a month with virgin and im covered for anything so didn't do to bad out of that
hey check here for a list of 3 insurers:
http://www.comparethemarket.com/more-products/mobile-phone-insurance/
I am with betterbuy but all three insurers use Citymain Administrators:
http://www.citymain.com/da/21920
(yours probably does too, since they are the most common insurer )
so you are going to get the same level of service from all of them it just depends on what price you want to pay versus how many extras you want.
Insurance2go = £40 per year for everything except loss and £54 including loss
js is £59 for everything excluding loss
betterbuy is £19.99 for accidental damage, £39.99 for accidental damage + theft and £49.99 for everything.
js has the best wording in their policy documents (and the lowest excess)but they do not cover for loss
betterbuy and insurance2go have almost exactly the same policy document but betterbuy is slightly cheaper for the same level of cover.
hope this helps a bit.
I didn't do completely exhaustive research so I may be wrong on somethings.
I ended up phoning them up to clarify they covered certain things, like screen damage since before I got my hd2 I saw a lot of posts about cracked screens.
Oh yes regarding the swapping the phone at the door, that is very nice but I do have many spare phones (life of a techie ) so I do not really need that level of service.

Your welcome, didn't take too long just had to retrace my steps.
I too cracked the glass and decided to have a go myself, i waited more than a week for the glass, followed the instructions and dismantled the phone without much hassle, just screws, plugs and a few stickers. Separating the glass from the lcd was another matter, i ended up breaking the LCD (quite badly) and had to order that too (another week). From what i've read more people break the Lcd than don't, specially on the first attempt. Also you have to de-solder the digitizer and Lcd apart and solder back again. No small task in it's self considering how small the contacts are. If you're not in a rush and want to save some money order the digitizer, try your best and if need to order the Lcd after you break the old one ;-)
If you really need to get it done in one go order both, if you do manage to do the job then sell the spare Lcd on ebay.
Hi all!
I managed to crack the digitizer of my HD2 some while back. It's working but I'd like to have it replaced, and I really think I'll screw it up if I try it myself. However, the official HTC repair service here in Norway wants the equivalent of 370€ to do it, and most unofficial ones are only slightly under that price.
I'm wondering if you know of any reliable repair services elsewhere in Europe would be cheaper, and in that case, which ones?
I've seen digitizers & glass being sold online, but they say it's pretty hard to separete from the LCD.
There are also complete sets of displays for hd2, LCD+digitizer+glass going for around 85$ or more.

Indeed, but I want to avoid replacing it myself, just not at any price.
quick consideration: I bought my hd2, second hand, for 440€ in february. Up to a 200€ expense for repairs (lower than which I think it would be really hard to find anything) I would seriously consider buying ANOTHER hd2 which now, being almost august, maybe can be found for less than 350€. I am not following the market.
At thjat point you could sell yours as defective for 200€ and still have paied 150€, lower than repairs
Thanks for the tip, that's not a bad idea at all..
However these guys says they'll fix it for 150£, so I think I'll just take a vacation in London and pay them a visit while I'm at it.
Anyone had any experience with this place? Turn on Your Mobile Ltd.
I saw the videos on how to fix it yourself, im not sure if i would be able to do it. Well my friend cracked the screen and HTC charged 185 to fix it for him. But i have smashed the screen and the housing also (btw, Ford Explorer ran over it)im sure it would be 250 or something. Im not sure if its worth spending so much money on this phone.
Phone is turning on and works fine, i can even get calls but can't pick the calls as touch screen won't work. Just the glass and housing needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know any repair shop in NY or any place which would be cheaper than HTC? Thnx guys,
ouch. That's painful to even look at. I'm no expert or anything, but i think if a heavy SUV ran over it then it must have crunched the components on the inside. I'd say it's not worth it because you can find a used one for around the same price (probably)
Well amazingly its a sturdy phone, its ringing when someone calls me, its getting the text msgs, alarm went on in the mrng. Everything seems to be fine, besides the touch interface not working and of course physical damage.
Need to find one with a dead or faulty motherboard then do a swap job. Would not want to pay repair centre cost but worth doing yourself if can find a cheap donor device ...

Well i did find the housing for $20+ online and glass with digitizer for around 90 on ebay (US Seller). Its just that its too much work and probability of messing it up is very high
You need a whole device as donor really as I suspect you will find a few less than perfect parts & having a spare of everything will prove invaluble & also allow you to recoup some cost by selling unwanted parts individually.
Only worth it if can pick up a real cheap bricked HD2.
Full strip & rebuild is not too hard, most horrors are people stripping touch & LCD panels or those who strip the device like a hungry bear opening a jar of honey. A bit of knowledge & a delicate touch is a must on HD2.
I smashed mine a few months back sold it on xda for £120 and bought a mint condition used one for £190 on ebay

There are assembly and dis-assembly guides for HD2 if you search around...you can also get parts for cheap on eBay, So if you have lot of time you can repair it for yourself
Ive been living with a stupid freaking blackberry style for the past 2 months. I CANT TAKE IT ANYMOREEEE I want my evo back sooo badly but no matter what I do to repair, nothing works. I have been working on this for a while now.
3 digitizers and lcd's have been used. My problem right now is that i believe that the digitizer port is somehow messed up. The annoying thing is that sometimes, randomly, the digitizer/touch panel will work and the phone will work perfectly. Which is what happened a couple of days ago after i finally got a new lcd after some wait and everything was going perfect until it happened again. What happens is that in hboot i get a touch panel fail, the phone will not boot past splash, and recovery is inacessible. If i remove the digitizer cable altogether it will boot and it will let me go to recovery. I have tried the 2 others i have and rarely, one will work.
You guys have ANY ideas? I tried cleaning with 91 alcohol and that didnt help.
PLEASEEEE I miss my 3 year old child.
EDIT and yes i am up at 4 like i have been to fix my evo
ebay.
i know fixing it by hand is a path you have gone a long way down and if that's something fun for you (and I realize it is for some) by all means keep on going down that path.
but times have changed from the days when evos were $450 on ebay.
now you will probably pay less for a mint condition clean esn evo than you would for all the parts you described, to say nothing of the value of your time.
i have personally repaired front speakers, rear speakers, camera lenses and digitizers/LCD assemblies, just about everything but the vibrator. i once loved tearing apart evos. but now i just buy evos whole.
intermittent connection problems are the worst. do you really want to spend more late nights fighting this thing? craigslist, ebay, swappa, whatever. get this behind you.
100% what NxNW said.
If it is in fact the connector on the board, then this will be no fun at all. The solder points on that are far too much work AND risk for the reward. Although, you can find a good board, just the board alone. Same part# as the one you got and just exchange whatever it needs, if anything. But it really is better to ebay the whole device. I got one for under $12 that needed a new charge port. Another buck and some soldering and BOOM.

You guys are right; just looked on ebay and theirs mobo's on here auctioning with no bids. 20$ for a fully functional one? Ill take it!
Thanks for the advice
my very quick survey of recent "completed auctions" for plausible looking phones with clean ESN's shows the current price for a non-janky Evo you could just activate and use as-is is around $60
i am seeing a range of $40 to $100 depending on whether it is in below average condition on the low end, or pristine condition plus some accessories on the high end.
basically 60 bucks for a ready-to-go evo with just a battery, no charger or usb cable, possibly no sd card.
a lot of auctions with reserve prices of $70 and higher are closing with the seller not getting any bids that meet the reserve.
on the flip side if you are "winning" an auction at $20, that phone is just "for parts".
actually i have bought phones described as "for parts" that *already* had parts harvested from it (usually the USB/charing port). sometimes you just get a picked-over carcass.
if the description doesn't *say* clean ESN, it's not. i even had to send back an evo once because the ESN was bad even though the seller said it was ok. they refunded my money claiming someone *else* told them it was clean. whatever. ebay can be a hassle but there's an endless supply of cheap clean evos out there, you just have to be observant.
If the seller is in your area, I would also HIGHLY suggest meeting them in person at a Sprint store to activate it on your line. I have seen dozens of posts in the S3 forums recently about people getting stuck with a blacklisted phone because the seller reported it stolen after selling it to them. So beware.

The one for 20 said it was in fully functional form. I only need a phone for a couple more months. Unfortunately, i forgot to bid before the auction ended I need to get better at ebay lol
