I have a HTC 6800 and when I start GPSGate it constantly has error [1359] Error reading data from serial port. I am using the internal GPS the Input is set to com4 and the virtual port in com8. Under advanced I have retry connection on time out. When I soft reboot my phone and it comes back up it will connect in a few minutes. If I don't reboot then it never works. Please help me!

alrite this is apparently a common problem but ive tried everything!
HOW DO YOU GET IT TO ACTIVSYNC OVER BLUETOOTH!!!
so every time i try to even start activsync via bluetooth on my xda2 it says: "please start bonding with other bluetooth device which supports serial port or activesync profile as your ActiveSync partner!"
so i press ok and bond with my computer using a Belkin class 1 bluetooth adapter and then nothing happens..
i go back to try and start activsync but it just comes up with the same error!
WHAT DO I Do!!!
help help help thx
The same happens to me... :?
Does anyone have any solution?
this is the first time I've tried to help someone on XDA-Developers but here goes =D.
first ensure that you have Active Sync correctly syncing by doing a normal sync with the XDA in its cradle. When you see that that works fine plug your bluetooth adapter into your computer. Your computer should have Windows XP service pack 2 installed.
when your adapter is installed on your computer, you should see the bluetooth logo down the bottom, in the system tray.
Double click the bluetooth Icon in the system tray. you get a new window coming up saying "Bluetooth Devices" and in the "Devices" Tab (under that) you should see "Add..." down the bottom, it's a button. click that.
_____________________________________________________________
Now. that opends some sort of wizard. here we should take time to understand the consept of bluetooth.
when you start a 'partnership' (basically a link between your XDA and your computer) you're effectivly making the same thing as when you have it in it's cradle but this time it's wireles.
since it's wireless you run the risk if some sort of hackers but I feel it's a safe thing to mess with because you need to enter a (recomended) 8 digit code. haha.. mine is usually 12345678.
You know when your bluetooth actually works when you request a partnership on your computer and your phone comes up saying: this guy is requesting a partnership with me. you just hit accept and enter the same key code that you entered on your desktop computer.
My XDA tells me that it is capable of opening a serial port. I tap yes to that, you should too.
After taking these steps, you should have a partnership. by the looks of things you can only run one of these partnerships at a time, but don't worry about that.
_____________________________________________________________
Now to move on to more configuring of the COM ports (which is about the most important thing.
When you first make a partnership with your XDA, your Windows XP computer adds a com port under "phone and Modem options" in the control panel. On mine it used COM5 because Bluetooth took COM3 for outgoing, and COM4 for incoming. If you have a few problems with your connection later on, we will go back to this and change some things.
Assuming the "Bluetooth Devices" dialogue box takes COM3 for Outgoing and COM4 for Incoming data, We will now Configure Active sync to accept incoming requests via COM4.
To do that we must open Active Sync in Windows, go File and Connection Settings.
In Connection Settings, see that the tick box for "Allow Serial cable or Infared connection to this COM port:" is TICKED.
change the COM1 to COM4 (but only because that is the Incoming Request that the "Bluetooth Devices" dialogue box is setup to use) If the "Bluetooth Devices" dialogue box accpted COM5 as the Incoming Data port, we would use COM5 in Active Sync.
_____________________________________________________________
Everything that is needed to be configured in Windows is now Configured. Now try Syncing with your Computer from your XDA.
Any problems with this write back.

ahh
thats not quite the problem. i have set it up, and it does not realise that my computer can use serial port profiling.
i followed your instructions step by step but when, on my xda2, i go to settings -> bluetooth settings and press "start" it comes up with an error.
The error says "please start bonding with other bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner!"
i do not understand why this is because it is configured on my desktop computer to allow ssp.
i even installed the "bluetooth tools" thing and made sure that i ticked both serial port profiling and activesync but to no avail!
what do i do?
i would check all steps in the guides
i have a belkin usb too and it works just fine

ok. ive tried another way nd it still dont work
i opend up activsync on my ppc and tried to connect via bluetooth but i get communication error 608. wats my prob!
nope i did everything.. checked it twice and still to no avail.
when i try to set up bluetooth activesync it just says: "please start bonding with other bluetooth deviece which supports serial port of ActiveSync profile!"
i then set up the connection with my computer and nothing happens after that at all! i havnt tried hard reseting and would rather not but will if i have to.
aha solved it
it was my xda2.. for some reason it was messed up and so i did a hard reset, followed the instructions and it worked fine.

my virtual com port had set 4/7/8/10/11..at reg...
but ..when i star GPSPROXY..it said .. failed 2 configure regisstry fot virtual COM port driver....
TOOL-----SETTINGS....then ERROR...and auto close.....
how about ur UNIVERSAL?.
can u launch GPSPROXY 1.15?...
how u set ur virtual com?. COM 4 or 8?..or..?..
THX!!!
Do you really need the translation to Garmin format or do you just want to share the GPS by several apps?
(Note: WM5 is capable of sharing the GPS between multiple apps)
Ok, after quite a few months, someone must have succeeded in getting gpsproxy to work on universal.
I haven't!
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpsproxy/
I always get "failed to load virtualcomport driver" error. Long long time ago, I somehow made it working on virtualcomport=0, but garmin que can't read this port.
Can someone help me on this?
Work perfectly for me. Use the latest version (1.16), set com4 in the first tab to connect to gps( set you gps output port to be com4 also in bluetooth app), set port 8 in the last tab(virtual com port number). Close the prog.
Fire your registry editor,
got to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\drivers\RegisteredDevice and delete BTD_COM8
Soft reset with a software (not the button, or modifications will be lost, or wait 10 minutes before reseting)
Launch gpsproxy again
You sould now see COM8: GPSProxy Virtual com port. If you see Com8:? it will not work. Set com8 in application tab, set your GPS Unit ID and get the best unit you can think of (except it doesn't have integrated gps).
If your gps was set on com8, invert the com 4 and 8 from my instructions.
also note that the gps must be on and in range when you launch the proxy or it will not work (error 55)
Wow man, thanks a lot! After three months, I finally got it working!
Although, I often get "failed to load virtual com port ...", but it seems that soft reset helps.
Thanks again, I owe you one
You are are the same place than other PDA. The writer of gpsproxy is thinking about a full rewrite to solve this. You will get this error if you turn off the pda without turning off the proxy.
Yeah, I'm following the progress of gpsproxy and version 2.0. I read the whole thread on bargainpda site, but didn't find good solution for my problem. Well, you solved it.
About the error, I close program correctly. First stop and then exit.
Ok, just received my 236 and installed TT6. It works, but I have a few question.
First of all, I went into Bluetooth settings on my O2 XDA and chose New Partnership, it found my 236, and I entered the passkey 0000 (as it says in the 236 instructions). It asked which services I'd like to use, and the only option was Serial Port, which I ticked. I then added a new outgoing COM port based on the 236, COM6.
I went into TT6 and chose GPS Status, and went to Configure - chose "Other Bluetooth Receiver" and then "COM6".
All seems to work ok, but my question are:
1) Do I have to go into TT6 > Preferences > GPS > Configure > Choose "Other BLuetooth Receiver" > COM6 every time I get in the car? Or can I set it to connect automatically?
2) Sometimes if I look at the GPS settings in TT6 (the screen showing the grey or blue dots with satellite numbers on it) it'll flicker between "Other Receiver" and 3 or 4 blue dots (i.e. 3 or 4 satellites found) and "No valid GPS signal" (it only says "No valid signal" for a second before lighting up blue dots again for a few seconds) - this is standing outside, with phone next to receiver, and the orange light flashing on the 236 (meaning GPS signal fixed) - is this normal?
3) How do I check firmware on my 236? Every time I connect it via a PSP USB cable (Holux Tech Support say this cable works) my PC constantly flashes up "USB device not recognised" - if I go to Device Manager on my PC it's refreshing itself every second until I unplug the cable. I've installed the USB driver package from Holux's web site
1) Once youve selected the correct comm port thats it, it will connect within 2 minutes whenever you start tomtom. It even turns bluetooth on so you can leave it off and it will turn it on when you start the app and turn it off again when you exit.
2) Ignore the display about loosing signal, TTN v6 is still pre-release as im assuming you didnt buy it (you cant) so it shows on mine that there are no sats, but there are and it works
3) Holux support told you wrong. The PSP USB cable is the same as any other USB cable, in no way is it special and you cant use it to connect ot the PC. To connect to the PC in that way you MUST have the special holux cable with a little dongle on it. Or connect via bluetooth.
The Holux 236 does not support the USB protocol. Its a serial interface, the socket just so happens to be shaped like a USB socket.
Dear all, I need to set my outgoing com port to 8 for my GPS receiver to work. I've searched the wiki and was unable to find anything on this topic.
When I try to set sny numbers between 1-8 my Hermes rejects this saying "the com port could not be created....."
I've tried with and without secure connection ticked.
I am using the following ROM TNT.SE "Special Edition" Series (Professional)
Could someone point me inthe rightdirection of how to enable com port 8.
Many thanks
i used for my tytn before com0 and after hard reset com4...you can try!!
1. Go to Comm manager and turn on Bluetooth
2. Go to Settings Bluetooth
3. Click Add new device (your mobile phone is search for BT GPS device)
4. Click with stylus on GPS BT device then tap to next
5. Enter passcode (default is 0000 four zero), then tap next
6. Enable checkbox on Serial port then Finish
7. Go tu downmenu COM Ports
8. Tap on New Outgoing Port
9. Select your BT GPS device
10. Tap next
11. Select your COM port (Com 8)
12. Disable checkbox Secure Connection
13. Click on Finish
Thats it... My BT GPS antenna work fine with this procedure. And for last finish, setup your GPS software to work with this COM port.
Enjoy...
Many thanks for the replies Filefixer and Lilhit82.
I tried to do as you've said before posting the thread. The problem is that I can't select any com ports between 0 and 8. I can only to set it up on port 9.
I have the same problem although I have in the past been able to set it on com 5 or 6, now it is locked on com port 9, however htat port works fine for me.
just make sure you go to the GPS applet in connections (or wherever your cooker put it) and set the hardware port to 9... DO NOT attempt to set a data port, leave that first page at (none), then set the third page to allow windows to manage your gps.
Then do a soft reset and power cycle your GPS reciever, then you will be able to use apps that call on the gps unit.
Hope that works for you.
BTW perform the procedure filefixer described but use port 9 instead. Do that BEFORE the soft reset and power cycle.
I use Gpsgate to manage GPS data to more than one application at the same time. So all my apps look at virtual com port 1 instead of the COM4. This helps me to feed in simulated data via virtual port and get all apps excited and show me as if I am travelling at 145mph sitting at home
Virtual com port 1 listens to COM4 in normal scenarios.
I can have virtual com port 1 not listen to COM4 unless any client is asking nmea data. But does it mean that the GPS actually goes to sleep ? I am hoping I can save on some battery time by having GPS shutdown when I dont want it.
Is it built in that COM4 doesnt give out nmea unless requested ? or how is there a registry fix to allow me to do that ?
thanks.
