Its been a while since ive been on here. I didnt know if anyone had found a solution to the MDA locking up issue.
My phone sometimes locks up 2-3 times a day and others not for 3 days. I find it locks up more when i receive a text message.
I recently cracked my screen and just wanted to let you know that since my screen cracked 2 weeks ago, my phone has not locked up once. I have been texting and calling people the same amount but it has not locked up on me once.
Just thought it would be a useful tidbit of info in case you guys are still working on it. If solution has been found please point me in the proper direction.
Thanks

Many old threads on this topic. My main advice is to get rid of the phone skin, it speeds things up nicely, but I'm not sure if it'll fix your problem - I don't use my Universal as a phone, so I've got no experience of it

Hi there,
I got a Tytn since about 2 months now. I never used the image that it came with but since i tried about 3 or 4 different images and at least 5 different radio versions, I am seeing the device acting really strange. The symptoms I see are:
- device locks up while in sleep mode and sms / calls are not being anounced / logged
- devices loses reception really often, switches to gprs when it had 3g reception 1 sec ago, doesnt want to do calls on the first try(sometimes I need 4 tries)
Sometimes I can solve the problem by setting the device to flight mode and then back to nonflight mode.
Im not sure if it is a hardware problem with my device. When I got it I was barely able to get the stylo in the device or out. Since a few weeks, after some thin foil coming out of the stylus sloy, the stylus goes in fairly easy. Im not sure if that messed up something with my hardware, for example some antenna connection or sth like that.
Do you got any ideas what I could try to fix the problem? Or would sending in the TyTN be the best way to solve that problem?
Thanks for your help,
Pascal

The problems you outline have all been dealt with in various places in this forum. Use the google sticky post to search.
Some of the more practical issues - stylus, hanging/freezing are dealt with here but also at my mini hermes site:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com
However I might be tempted to go for an exchange given the range of issues you have and what may be damage to the radio. (I am not convinced there is damage - the dropping calls issue has a work around - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299070 that allows you to choose a set band.)
Depending on where you got the phone may determine whether you need to return it to OEM ROM before returning (if that's what you choose to do)

I guess I will just go for a return of the phone. I still got a Nokia e61 lying around here. Does anyone of you have any experience with the htc support? I boght the phone at an o2 shop in germany. I guess they will go for a sendin to the manufacturer.
Cheers

I just returned my tytn to the shop today. Too many problems with this device. Could anyone of you tell me if that is usual problems or if the tytn runs fine if it is not being touched?
If it does I will get a tytn again, if not I guess i will go for a blackberry or a palm treo, or just stick to my old phone (nokia e61)
Any ideas?
Cheers

mine works fine... havent experienced the sleep of death or anything of the sort.. some people seem to have it more with certain roms than other people.. but mine over all is working good...
update your ROM
Hello,
To resolve your problem , you need update the ROM to version Black Diamon, 01-04-2007, radio version 1.07.03.10.
So I came across a tmobile mda (wizard g3) from a buddy of mine. He was having a couple problems so he bought a new blackberry curve. He was having a couple issues with it so i decided to take it and play with it a bit. I own a Wing so I am pretty familiar with the phone.
My problem is this. Just recently the phone started malfunctioning. The keyboard will sometimes not work at all, and other times only some buttons work. In addition i'm pretty sure that some of the buttons on the front of the phone were malfunctioning too. Other than that all is good.
I took the phone and CID unlocked it and installed a couple different ROMs to see if it were possibly a software problem. It was giving me problems with all of the different roms. Currently it is running the oem Tmobile 2.26 rom.
Has anyone had any issues like this. It almost seems as if there is a bad connection to the keyboard. Can anybody shine any light on this problem?
any help is appreciated!

It's definitely not a software problem,it's more a Hardware, either the keyboard needs cleaning or it's faulty and must be replaced.
I was thinking the same thing. im going to take it apart and clean it up. If all else fails, where can I find a keyboard?

I'm sure some of you Hero veterans have heard of this problem. I've searched a few threads but can't seem to find the answer. One thread has tons of folks saying that this happens to them on and off but this is happening to be NON-STOP for 3 days straight. I can't do anything on the phone. I've tried flashing different roms, reflashed radio but still nothing.
Can anyone give me their two cents because I'm totally out of ideas and about to ditch this phone... and I really don't want to.
Hi !
Are you talking about this sort of problem ?
youtube.com/watch?v=UHOGXvzZJ_A
I was having the same. Because my phone is under warranty, I sent it at an HTC Customer Service in France last week.
I received my phone today at home : but I haven't seen if the problem has been solved yet. They wrote a technician saw error logs in my Android system. So they updated my phone (I hope it isn't an hard reset, but I think it is... I always trying it) : that's what they've written in the technical report.
One question : is your phone only on edge network ? (My problem was only on edge network when datas were broadcasting)
On Friday I will use my phone and tell you if there is any change.
PS : sorry for my awful english...

If this is happening for 3 days I would send it back, it's probably a sensorflaw.
And when you're scroll sensor is ****ed it doesn't matter wich rom you use you'll always have problems.
Hope any of you guys can help me on this. Last night my Leo's screen went totally unresponsive.
Could not get past the screen lock. Removed the battery, rebboted ... could not get the PIN code in.
I had seen this already two nights ago, but it got away once I moved in an area where I could get a reasonable signal (ultra-crappy where I am now on vacation).
Now Im'm beginning to think the signal thing was just a coincidence and that the problem is way more serious.
In total despair, I even tried a hard reset. To no avail.
Phone boots up fine. I can even sync to it (so yes, I can get to the registry). But since the only control is the screen ... not really a lot I can do with it.
I need to be in touch for work and I badly need the voice and internet connectivity (right now I'm using the wife's phone ...).
Any ideas besides getting an RMA from HTC?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Update: spoke with HTC support.
It looks like the issue is somehow triggered by the lock screen.
As suggested by HTC, I flashed again the 1.66 ROM upgrade and everything ran smoothly until the phone went in standby the first time.
Then, I was (and still am) unable to unlock the screen. And if I soft reset screen is unresposnsive again.
Right now I can just receive calls (I removed the PIN code from the SIM temporarily).
HTC told me to send it in for repair, but everything in Italy is closed until Aug 23rd and the only option I have is to ship it at my own expense to the UK and back (HTC will collect and deliver free of charge only within the same country).
Total bill some 100+ Euro plus driving 100 KM or so to the nearest courier collection point. A nightmare.
What really troubles me is that the problem surfaces only once the screen locks.
On one hand I follow HTC's support that if flashing 1.66 did not cure the issue, it cannot be software.
On the other hand, if it is indeed hardware, how come it freezes only after the first lock screen? Lock/unlock is a software thing. Screen should behave exactly the same way before or after the lock - shouldn't it?
Anyone here seen/heard of anything like this?
wow, gotta love those "closed for the summer" euro vacations.
If you reinstall the ROM, then why not disable the lockscreen until you can get it fixed?
You can install BSB tweaks and that has an option to disable autolock.
i had the same exact problem; it started freezing only on the lock screen then got worse and started freezing at random times while in use. I finally broke down and sent it in to HTC to check it out. I'm waiting to hear back with there diagnosis and I will pass along whatever they tell me.
Good to know the problem has come up somewhere else (if you're the only one you are most likely to hear it's your fault before they replace the most expensive component in the phone). Where are you located slimster?
How long have you been waiting for? HTC policy should be 7-10 working days from when they receive the phone at the lab (so they told me and I remember reading it somewehere here in xda too).
