Phantom unread sms - Wing, P4350 General

HI all,
I am running PointUI on my Wing in Windows Mobile 6, and yesterday I noticed that I have a phantom unread message in my sms inbox. I say phantom because I have cleared everything out and there shouldn't be anything in there, but the bottom of that inbox screen which gives you the message totals count says 1 unread sms. Also, the PointUI interface is showing a 1 in the sms icon like there is a message, but I can't find it. The indicator LED light is not amber but it's driving me nuts. I have tried several soft boots to see if that corrected the problem and it did not. Also, I have rebooted and not started PointUI and the issue is still there on the windows today screen.
Has anyone ever had this issue? If so, how did you resolve it. Any and all ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie

I have had a similar issue with phantom unread email messages a couple of times. I found a small program on this site which fixed it for me.
Do a search for "fixunreadcount" on this site, and you should find it. If it does not turn up, let me know and I will check to see if I still have a copy saved on my PC.

I couldn't find a program for that and it's still doing it. I've even dropped PointUI and still have the phantom message on the original today screen.

Sorry for the hijack, but I was hoping others who have had this problem could maybe suggest other things to try. I tried the fixunreadcount.exe program, it said it corrected the SMS inbox from 1 to 0, ran it again, came up OK, did a soft-reset and it still shows 1 on the Home screen and says "0 items, 1 unread" in the inbox. Grr. I've tried running the fixunreadcount several times, it corrects from 1 to 0 every time, I've tried the inbox settings registry change that someone in another thread suggested, nothing makes that stupid 1 go away. Maybe it's time to reflash....
EDIT: I ran the fixunreadcount three more times, trying a combination between soft-resetting and powering down, and it FINALLY cleared it! I can now say this program works...eventually!

Thank you, this fixed it for me. After running the program it required a soft reset.
In my situation the actions that led to this situation was that I had sent one SMS to multiple receivers and was "cleaning" the SMS folder by deleting the message received notifications. During this I received other "message received" notifications and as of the result of this the "unread count" remained in "1" (one). My assumption was that one of the deleted notifications was moved from the inbox to the deleted items, but somehow the "system" did not remove it from the inbox. I assume this is a "rare" situation and was partially caused by me accessing the device while I got more notifications. Device was HTC Diamond - first generation and I'm running WM6.1 build 20764.1.4.3.

cheers guys. it fixed my issue on the TP2

For me 2. Thanks.

Can't clear unread SMS counter

I have 2 unread SMS showing in the slide2unlock screen and on the SPB shell icon. I deleted ALL of the SMS messages (drafts, outbox, etc. too). Yet still it shows 2 unread. I have threaded SMS installed. Is there a way to clear the unread messages?
I had that problem as well with threaded sms, even though i had gone into the program and read the texts the htc home plugin and the threaded sms today plugin still told me I had 3 sms messages waiting for me. I couldn't get rid of it until the next day someone else texted me, then the popup notification window came up telling me I had 4 texts, I clicked the option "save as read" (or maybe it was dismiss) and they all went away, see if you can get someone to text you and try that maybe?
Tried that....didn't help
I've had this happen too. I fixed it by uninstalling the threaded SMS application, then when I went into the stock SMS app, I saw an unread text message that the threaded app didn't know about. I think it has to do with installing the threaded SMS application when you have one or more unread texts. Who knows. Anyway, delete it, reinstall, and that should fix it.
there should still be a way to access the default text messaging folder even if you have threaded sms installed, too bad that option doesn't seem to be included (that i've seen) with any threaded progs I've seen yet. Hopefully the uninstall works for you.
my problem is a little different.
i am using the default messaging app and it tells me I have one unread message.
i have selected ALL messages and set to "mark all as unread". at this point it shows "126 messages, 127 unread".
anyone know how i can fix this....?
Thanks
I resolved the problem by uninstalling Threaded SMS. I saw the 2 unread messages, deleted them, then re-installed Threaded SMS.

I have the same problem on my Kaiser (wm6 htc shipped). I'm using default messaging app and it happens on HTC Home plugin and in msg app in "Select account" screen and on folder change screen (counter shows "1" next to "Inbox" even if i delete all messages from all folders)
It doesn't happen on SPB Diary plugin (here counter works ok) and also when I don't have any new messages, there isn't any "notification"/"new msg icon" on wm top bar (next to the Start button).
I know it is not Kaiser forum and this thread is little bit old, but I was looking for some fix across all xda-dev site and the only one thread i found is this.
If someone knows how to fix my problem (without making Hard Reset) it would be great
The only way I have been able to fix unread count since I am operating the OEM 6.1 threaded sms is to open up reg editor HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\
Then change from SMSAvailable from 1 to 0, Close out the reg editor and select messages then go through and read the text message that is in bold(has not been read).
After this go back into reg editor adn go back to above value and change back from 0 to 1 and should be back in business. I may have to do this once a month due to a hung message. this always fixes it. Not sure if this will work for the folks using Cody's Threaded. I believe that it will, due to making the messages show up under the normal messaging folder.
Let me know if this works for you...it always works for me.

I am having HTC Touch(GSM) 128MB ROM & 64 MB SDRAM UNLOCKED(originall bought from UK, having Orange Connection). Recently I was fidling my device with phm registry editor, and some how what happend I dont know, But now the new sms counter which displays on the home screen tabs is not incrementing. If any new sms comes the counter remains '0'. Can ANY ONE please help. One more thing is there any ROM update for my set?
I have had this issue again in the last two days after flashing Ark_N's latest ROM for TP2.
What I have done just now is tap on the sms icon/button, tapped "all messages" text that appeared after tapping the sms icon/button, tap "menu", selected "settings", selected "traditional mode", scrolled down the messages till I came to a text message that was unread (bold type), read it by selecting it.
After that, I selected the "menu" button, selected "settings", then "conversation mode", "back", and pressed the "home" button (hardware button). And guess what? the issue was gone.
Hope this helps.

Incoming Text Messages are not in the inbox??

Please pardon this posting (if this is an already known issue - it's 3.00AM and I've been combing the Herald threads for known issues but didn't see this on there)...
I got a new Wing today and after placing the SIM card in it, the phone works like one would expect until you try to send a text message. That never gets sent . What's more aggravating is the behavior on incoming text messages. The keys light up when I get a new text message and the counter on the home screen adds to the number of unread messages however, when I click on the link to attempt to view the messages, the inbox is blank. 0 messages in it. I have checked all the folders to no avail. Even a hard reset on the device doesn't seem to fix the issue. Am I missing something here? If so what??
FYI I called T-Mo support and their Tier 3 guy was stumped.
Here's the wierd thing while I was going through testing to validate that this was an actual issue, I did get the "incoming text message" bubble notification and from there, I clicked on Menu (from the home page) and was able to view the text messages - so they're somewhere in my phone, just not in the inbox - anyone have any idea where I can look?
*bump*
I'm having this problem now. Ever find the fix?

Mogul alerts can't be stopped

I'm having a problem with my Sprint Mogul.
I get an alert every 10 minutes or so, but I have already dismissed all notifications and alarms.
Even went into settings and disabled sound and vibrate notifications for everything and it's still happening all day long.
I'm using DCD's 3.0.4 Radio:3.37.20
Please help, anyone.
Strange problem. I sometimes get duplicates of alerts because I run an xml that writes alerts, but I never had a problem like your's. What I do is use dot fred's task manager to review the notifications and delete the items I do not want. You can also just delete all the duplicates in that program, but I doubt that would fix your problem.
Worst case scenario, a hard reset should fix it too.

1 unread SMS, can't find it anywhere!

Hi all,
Since accidentally sending myself a text yesterday evening, my Touch HD won't get rid of a 1 unread SMS icon on the TouchFlo3D bar, as well as in the 'All Messages' view. There isn't an unread text anywhere in there! I've spent almost an hour going through each and every conversation in my inbox, making sure I read through from top to bottom, but it won't get rid of the notification.
Also, it won't vibrate when I get a new text. This is really annoying, as I permanently have my phone on silent and in my pocket - and I never know when someone's texted me!
Is there something I can do to mark all texts as 'read' in my inbox? Or maybe change a registry setting or something to reset it? I can't think of any other way to get rid of it. Something's obviously gone wrong somewhere.
I'm currently using Miri's v22 WinMo 6.5, if that helps?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Search and you shall find. I've come across many threads in this in the blackstone section (i've also had trouble with it myself in the past) Good luck
hi guys wat i can understand from above, to get rid of the unread message u need to go into all messages and then tap on LHS top where it says Inbox and select outlook or mail/inbox....there will be a welcome mail, mark it read or delete it and u wont have any un read message, then to go back tap on lhs top and go sms-mms/inbox
for the vibration on a sms recieved make sure u select vibrate in volume profiles as silent means no ring tone no vibration in HTC context.
i hope this helps
Try this:
"Safe" Inbox Extender
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379265
It adds a 'Mark all as read' function to the menu.
Thanks for the replies folks. I did a search and found numerous threads, so far I've tried backing up using PIMBackUp, then restoring it which overwrites the messages and apparently resets the counter. That didn't fix it. Then I tried the Safe Inbox Extender, that 'Mark all as read' option didn't fix it either
Am going to try flashing to Miri's latest ROM (was going to do it soon anyway, before I got this problem), and am just hoping and praying that when I restore from backup that the problem won't come back with it! Else I'm going to go insane

If you perform a restore of contacts, sms & emails you will no doubt still have this issue.
Have you tried going into All messages > Inbox > select outlook or mail/inbox and then either delete message or mark it as read

SMS unread count

Hey guys,
I have the problem with the wrong count of unread SMS.
When I receive a new SMS, it doesn't get marked as read.
I can do anything, but new SMS stay unread.
But deleting these SMS doesn't reduce the unread count.
Even using the "Fixunreadcount.exe" didn't change a thing.
This bug is driving me mad and I can't find a good solution.
Please help me!
PS: Using Dutty's HD Holy Grail R2 ROM
I had a problem with my TouchFlo SMS icon showing a green '1' saying I had a message when I couldn't find it.
I went through all my messages and conversations and had no luck. A few months later, irrelevent to fixing it, I got some software which made it so when your phone screen goes black it will auto lock it with the slider to unlock (like the iPhone has). It's called S2U2. On the unlock slider screen you are able to preview SMS and email messages without unlocking them, which is quite nice. With the unread count still showing 1 problem, I had the SMS icon there despite me knowing I didn't really have any more messages. To my suprise it actually previewed a message I had received about 6 months ago. I went to that message and read it again, the unread count problem was fixed permently.
I did use the fixunread count tool but as soon as I got a new message it would show 2, then one after I read the new one.
I hope you understand this, good luck!
Yeah I understand your problem.
But the weird thing with my phone is, that the messages don't get marked as read.
I see them in the "All Messages" screen with a green "1" bubble, but when I read them, the count doesn't disappear.
EDIT: Never mind, i've seen you've already tried FixUnreadCount... that worked for me though, although there was only 1 unread message that I couldn't see.
It's screwed Did 2 hard resets, flash with previous task 29 formatting but the problem still occurs.
I think it comes from some 3rd party software. Just have to figure out what it is.
