Any way to stop wifi roaming? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I only ever use wifi when I am at work or at home so I leave the wifi on however when I go out the roaming is active and it keeps asking me if I want to connect to random wifi hotspots. Is there a way to turn that off?

bump
I'd love an answer to that question too.

dont know if this will work......but in sound and notification, there's a notification for "wireless network detected"

Can not "On" Wi-fi

I can not on wi-fi. Help me.
What happens when u try to start it from comm Manager
nothing, buton Wifi no chance when i click it
Mumble. Right. When you switch on Wifi, does the icon change colour?
It should match the colour of one of the other active options, such as Phone or Ringer.
When the wifi is active, how are you 'testing' that it is working?
If I switch my wifi on, it will eventually pop up a message about other secure wifi networks available, but if you haven't any in your area then that will not happen.
Do you have your own wifi transmitter, such as a router, wireless access point or another computer/device?! If so, what?!
Still not chance. Wifi can not "on"

What are you trying to mate your PDA Wifi too?
Also, there is the Search feature at the top of the site, click on that and put something in like prophet+wifi and have a look at other peoples responses.
Oddly enough I had the same issue. I'm on a WM6 Prophet and my wifi didn't start.
After som soft resets, I realised that the BT was on, so I disabled it and tried to star Wifi... It worked like a charm.
Try that, Bluetooth on and off and then try connecting wifi.

WiFi notifications

Hi,
Has anyone had any trouble getting notifications for networks to connect to? When I have WiFi enabled and there are open networks I have to go into wireless settings to connect...
Are there any WiFi scanning apps worth getting to make it easier?
Cheers

Nope, I get notifications fine; I just pull down the bar and tap the notification if I want to connect. "Network notification" in "Wireless settings" hasn't disabled itself?
Nope, notifications are still on. Tried tiring them off/on but nothing comes up.

Cannot Connect box

ok this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place.
also im not very good with technology so this is probably a really stupid question .
basically when i switch my wifi connection off a box appears every few minutes saying cannot connect. how can i stop this its really annoy and telling me something i already know!
thanks
*EDIT*
yes wacky.banana when i switch the wi-fi off the way you said
Hi and welcome on board,
Just to double check: when you switch off wi-fi, you do mean on the device by going to Settings>Wireless Controls>Wi-Fi Off?
Please confirm.
Thanks
WB
You probably don't have a cellular data connection set up (GPRS or 3G) so when wifi is off and your weather/email/location/google maps/etc. tries to update it can't connect.
I get the same thing in the subway because there is no signal at all!!
well the best thing to do is when that message appears tap on the settings> manage existing connections> and then tap and hold the My connection then u will get an option saying delete or connect. Delete that conection and close...thats should solve it.

[Q] Keep getting this msg "Connecting to T-Mobile Data"

Hi! I just started getting this message constantly: "Connecting to T-Mobile Data, Connecting to GPRS" around every hour or so (along with an audible alert which is the problem). I don't know what it means, or how to change it. I don't seem to have any problem using the phone, but the constant audible alert (ie. at night) is what i would like to at least stop. I do not have a data plan, I only connect to the internet with a wireless connection. Thanks so much.

No, settings - cellular and inside cellular you will find data conection and set it to OFF.
OFF means you will only have internet conection and sync only when you turn wifi on.

wifi not re-connecting

Whenever I reboot my new GS5, my wifi does not connect. I get this icon on the system bar and in the pull down I get a notice that "myssid" disconnected Network disconencted. Sign in again.
I go to wifi settings and tap on my connection and then tap on connect and it comes right up, but I have never had the network not reconnect automatically when I was in range.
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, you didn't give us a detailed description of your settings i.e. how your phone is configured. Sounds like expected behaviour.. based on the way your phone is likely configured. You can optimize your settings or install an app to automatically log you into wifi.
To know for certain, you'd need to make some screen shots and describe your settings for us - not sure why you didn't do that to start with?

"sounds like expected behaviour" WHat? I have had smart phones since the Evo 4G and NEVER had my wifi not automatically connect when I cam into range or when the phone was turned on. So far I THINK it is mostly happening when I do a reboot.
"You can optimize your settings or install an app to automatically log you into wifi" I have NEVER had to install anything on any phone or laptop to auto log me in. I don't understand this at all and I am a computer guy. Been working on, building, troublshooting computers for 20+ years.
As for detailed description of settings, it is wifi. There is not that much to set. I am using WPE security and my SSID. The wifi works but when I reboot, I have to maually connect to the network bu taping on the connection in the wifi listing.
If there are spesicif settings you have questions about , let me know what you want to know. but it is wifi. There is not that much to it. I was thinking that maybe this had to do with connection optimizer or something.
