TouchPal friend wanted :) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Well, after having used the TouchPal keyboard for a few months now (and trying every single other SIP possible) I'm convinced that this is the one.
Cootek has a deal, basically you get two licenses in a reduced price of one (that's 6.49$ each). The second license is meant to be for your friend, none of my friends happen to have touch screens on their bloody Nokias
So, anyone jumps on this ship with me?
You can Paypal me, I'll Paypal them, will send you the code or whatever is needed... Or the other way round...
I can tell you TouchPal is worth any money if you have no hardware keyboard. It's fekkin amazing. Nothing comes even close.
BTW: http://www.cootek.com/

If only you wrote this a few days ago.....
After trying the standard version, I have bought the Professional one...
Not a big difference, but you can personalize it a lot....
You can move your keys where you want, set the keys width, select a different one from the original ordering.... and other addictional functions like emoticons........
This keypad is amazing!!

deal, get in touch with me:
lazyboy0172 aattttt gmail dooottttt com

damn I missed out... pm me if you still need.
I've been using it as well and must admit it works better than anything else I have used.

Too late!
Friend found!

Anyone have an extra friend license or want to go in with me on pro license.
PM me and I will give you paypal info to paypal and I will send you information. The license are currently 2/13 so 6.50 is the cost to you.
Thanks

Sorry this is Bul#$$#t. That product is bad. Simply doesn't work well. I have Eten M800, and the prduct made my device hand.
So I won't pay anything, not even 1 cent for such a product.
I've attached a CAB with my current keyboard - it runs very well, much better then this touchpal?!

I;m also using that one, it's Fingertouch PRO from www.fingertouchpro.com
From what I've seen and tried, this seems to be the very best release for Pocket PC.
Indeed, it appears that using this software you can enter high ammounts of text very quickly.

for testing purposes only. If you like it, Please purchase the program to support the author.
[PP: link deleted]
So let me get this straight. You bought the program for $22, like I did, and are now posting it here? And since you're posting it on this BB, it uploaded it to xda-developers servers, which means xda-developers are now hosting pirated software? Not something a webmaster wants to find on his site in this day and age.
Doesn't quite sound like a smart idea, now does it?
We may be hackers here, but not pirates!
I think he forgot to mention that he posted it for testing purposes only and that if the person likes it they will purchase the program themselves so enabling the author to carry on programming and feeding his family from his efforts.
tho i dont support piracy, i must admit, programs are very expensive now days! i mean $22 for this?
i got several games for $6 - $15. and quite good ones too!
why dont they keep prices low? its not like they're making state of the art programs! most are like a pig&poke.
the ONE program i refuse to pay full price for is the iastyle caller id, and that is because they give v2.0 for free , yet they charge $16 for v1.0
thats not right. atleast drop the price!
Can't get it to work anyway :?
think it is a kind of a bait. the file isnt working. think it is a fake.
I fixed it...
it seems very strange that when upload the programs to this server...It is modified automatically.
so I just put the file in my server, it is ok now.
if you like it, please do purchase it to support the author.
Granted the trial version only supports 6 calls, but really - how many of us really go out and purchase things we downloaded full-version for free unless we have an ultra-guilty conscience.
Oh, and to get it working I found you need to put nothing in for country code (even though it complains). Most of my contacts are formatted (xxx) xxx-xxxx not +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx like the program seems to expect.

You post in this thread and ask why prices are high?
If piracy grows prices will grow too... It's a simple calculation:
Product price = Development costs / (estimated) number of purchases
Maik Stohn

Well Im not an economist but I know the converse is also true. High cost of softwares (compared to what is reasonable for the usefulness of a particular software) actually drives piracy. $22 or about 1/10 of the cost of Windows XP is too much for this particular software. I will be glad to get a pirated copy!!!!!!! But if this is say $5. I will be ashamed to steal it.
Give it a try and reduce the price of this software and see if turnover will not increase.
NB: The software is good, though!
Hello again,
since there are not many devices on market (compared to windows XP machines) the price must be like $80 per copy ...
But I noticed one simple fact now. Most people of you don't want software for mobile devices...
So I think about a very simple thing. I will stop making software for mobile devices and wait until their are MANY users and I can provide cheaper versions.
Maik
Hi
Better stop this discussion as it is.
I already bought this product. It is good. Compared to CallerFirewall (you'll find it on this site, somewhere), it offers the possibility of having different profiles (but the other program is free).
One thing I noticed though, is that in order to work, this program must be kept running minimized. So if you have a task manager that actually closes programs when you press the X button, you should not use it. There should be an option to keep it running on the command bar, or present it as a today plug-in.
Hello,
the closing by taskmanagers will be fixed by the upcoming update (I think we will release it this week).
Maik
For the people that use SPB PocketPlus, this task manager contains a feature to add programs to an "ignore" list. You could add smartfilter.exe ... works like a charm.

Kaiser Anyone?

Wondering how many are going to pay out for the Kaiser and why.
I gots to have my device fix every year, ...I like the thinner Kaiser......but thats really about it..... Getting GPS above and beyond that is NOT going to open my wallet to the tune of $600.
If the Cingular network miraculously has the souped up hsdpa network good to go next year......maybe. If not I'm looking at the Toshiba device....or maybe the Samsung f700 if I can get my hands on it here.
Thanks!

I'm prob going to buy one. I already have someone willing to buy my hermes for the price of the Kaiser as long as I take care of it for them. Bosses wife. I want the GPS, the double in the storage, the thinner size, HSUPA, it is going to have 3.6 HSDPA and I really want the tip up screen. There is also the fact the the keyboard slids out the right side. I like that so that the dial is usable when the kb is pulled out.
Well that is my take on it. I wish the memory was going to 128 but that is prob not going to happen. I will be buying one.
Erik
yeah, but really, the hsdpa boost is good to go in other lands I hear....questionable in the US...wasn't aware of the storage boost.......(that we already have here on XDA!).
I want to stay with the Hermes lineage, which 'been good to me'....but startin to look around.
I think the XDA chefs've devalued the next models for sure!

Agree with everything you said, one question though: does the dial location change in the Kaiser? Because if you slide the keyboard to the left, as in the Hermes, the dial is well accessible. I figure if the dial location stays the same it ain't accessible if you slide the keyboard to the right ... am I missing something?
well, in the hermes it's accessible with your left thumb. as far as i understand, in the keiser it will be accessible with the right hand pointing finger...so it's more usable
I'll get one, but only if it supports the 3G frequencies T-mobile US is going to be on.

OK that makes sense, especially when sliding the screen upwards to provide enough space around the jog wheel for the left pointing finger ...

You know how we do!
i dont think its gunna be the G2
just another android phone on Tmobile
i think the G2 will have a keyboard
and imho it should
and also i think that that phone either needs a bigger screen or a keyboard of some sort
hey xmoo, do you have the "G2" in hand or are those just pictures you got? The reason I'm asking is I heard about someone having it and would like to get a hold of the new 1.5 compiled Market, Maps, and Gmail apks.
I'm refering to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488164
We've got a Magic here... i've not really had the time to play with it, but my colleague who has is somewhat taken with it!
No keyboard though.
yrreP, can you do me a favor and see if it has working market, gmail, and maps? If so, would you mind uploading the apks?
take the FIRM please!!!
I thought HTC were going to change the style of the buttons ont he front before release? see the HTC website- the buttons look fatter, not the thin protruding ones.

To save Yrrep the trouble of walking across the office to me, Yes it does, but not the ones you are thinking of. It has not yet been OTA updated to the release ROM, so it is running a pre-cupcake dev rom at the moment with an in house OSKB. but other than that, it seems to all be the same as the G1 at the moment.
Nice to see it in black though, looks rather good i think...
If one of ya'll have a way or something. To extract the apps, or make a copy of the whole rom of what so ever.
Tell me, and I will try to dump and upload here.
Im telling you the truth..If they release this thing with out an actual keyboard, I will have no desire to own it. I can even begin to tell you how much I hate virtual keyboards. I like to see the screen when Im typing. Not have a sliver a viewable space above a virtual keyboard. The phone itself (from a design standpoint) is much sexier.
They just need to keep the keyboard around, maybe with an optional virtual keyboard.
Just my opinion though.
Missing a flash for the cam in back and a cam infront for video calling most importantly the flash without one there is no point in haveing a 3.2 mp cam.
Anyone know what the screen size is? I'm hoping it's 3.5 inches but it looks like it's still 3.2 inches.

Sigh... after watching the video, somehow just adds to the feeling that it really ain't much of a big improvement over the X1. But well, will still get it. And hopefully, it'll be out before the 1 year warranty of my X1 expires so that I can send it for servicing. Gotta get my keyboard issue resolved, now that I realized it ain't to do with me using a custom ROM.
If you want it to feel like a "big thing" just simply think of it as a standalone phone from the Xperia series, not as a successor to the X1.
After you establish that fact, it's just a new phone in the lineup.
I hope they won't put those pathetic earphones in the final set.
I would like to LAUGH one more time about their decision to use micro usb when all the companies in the undustry have agreed to use mini usb.
Midway through the video, just after he puts in the battery (which looks to be a standard X1 BST-41 ) - he hits a switch on the side. I was originally going to ask if that might be a Hold switch like the ASUS phones have - but I realize now its actually just a battery case lock - oh well.
Can't say I like the reduction of the buttons, makes for less customization, the micro-usb means I need to get mini-micro adapters (90% of all usb non-USB-A devices I've owned since 2002 have had Mini-USB plugs). Flat screen is nice though, being a little bigger can't hurt. Nice camera, but lower frame-rate on VGA recording like the X1a now for all editions? Mostly same specs though and no idea what software it will break... makes me with hold judgment on whether I'd ever buy it though. That and the fact I have a brand new X1 to play with in my hand right now .
Peter
P.S. Just saw your reply above me orelsi, I wish Mini-USB were the standard but I keep reading that it's now micro-usb - I'd be happy if you can prove me wrong on this Ref: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2341261,00.asp

Dagi Capacitive Screen Stylus

Found this test of a Dagi capacative screen stylus while browsing. Shows it working on a HD2. Looks interesting.

I went to there web site and they sell various sizes. I sent them an email and was told it was $11.99us inc delivery and you can have your name engraved free.
Have ordered the P.001-Black will report back when it arrives (and my phone!)
Interesting, I'm going to wait for one that is as small (thin) as the traditional styluses.
IMO They are both truly horrible to look at and are huge!! lol

You are unforgiven, but I bought this phone for its 1Ghz CPU, not for its *idiotic*, screen smearing iPhone imitation "qualities".
The complete lack of precision combined with the brain damaged (un)predictive text input of xt9 turns this whole touchscreen affair into a sad, bread spread distributing joke!

I'd love to have a Stylus for the drawing applications, other than that, I use my fingers.
Edit: Is there a Stylus that looks like a real pen? Does it really need to have that transparent thing at the bottom? Can't they make they end of it smaller?

Well, my only guess is that they couldnt.
HTC had submitted a patent for a "magnetic" pointy-tip capacitive screen stylus.
So my only guess it - that this patent was discovered as unfesible - or - in other words -
It probably didnt work as they expected it to, so the patent is there,
but it doesnt really work.
That's the only conclusion I could come to.
Dagi Stylus
I just got a Dagi stylus, the one that is the size of a pen, and the shipped a second one (smaller) for free. I'm using the T-Mo Mytouch 3g Slide, and they both work real nice.
Dagi stylus - no hands!..?
can anyone tell me if they can use their Dagi without any kind of human touch, that is, without touching the pen and phone directly with human skin ??
Any Have a Ball PoinT Pen
My TynTyn II / Tilt I bought for a few bucks a stylus with a ball point pen.. that way I have a pen just in case why dont any of these have a PEN???
