LG KS20 directdraw and other bugs - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

So this is my first post in this forum so I 'll start with some naggin .
I am a proud owner of the lg ks20 which I absolutelly love. But its buggs are killing me.
First of all there is the free memory issue.I find it quite strange that a WM6 device with 128MB ram has only about 30MB free memory left.I mean cmon Vodafone and LG,we are talking about a huge 45 MB memory hole here.Any ideas on how to get rid of that?
Second serious issue with the is the lack of proper directdraw drivers.I hate the fact that I can not run any applications (with the exception of S2U2 whick works quite well) that use directdraw.Thats a great limitation to what one can do with this phone.
The hardware is all good, big enough ram,rom etc,top class CPU but the software sucks.
I know this is mainly an HTC forum, but I also know this is the right place to talk about WM phones when hacking and software development is concerned .
So is there any possibility to get things moving and resolve some of the phones bugs?

I have a KS20 too and would like to see some of that solved, too. But I guess we have to wait for the KS20 to be more common before there will be enough attention to get someone with enough knowledge to do something about it. I hope the English version of KS20 will come out soon and that it will get more people interested in this issue.

Did you install some strange software? OTherwise you should send your phone back to LG.

Battery always 100% and refuses to charge
Hi All,
I am new to the LG KS20.
It was working fine for 2 weeks, and now suddenly i find the battery status always showing 100%, and it just dies after a day of usage. Even worse, is that since it shows 100% always, it does not charge. When i try connecting the charger, it says battery is full, and the green LED light glows.
Can someone please help me out in resolving this issue.
Thanks you,
Jefferey Rayan

I have exactly the same problem - the 100% issue happend from one day to the other after about two weeks of use. The phone can then only be turned on by connecting it to the charger ( ac-adapter).
Some people in other forums claim it to a damaged battery, some to the 10a-ROM-version. It does not seem to be charged according to the message on the display and the greed led, but I am now about to check out if it really doesn't charge the phone. It turned it self off after about 1 minute of use yesterday, I connected it to the charger over night - today it functions properly so far...
So maybe it's "just" a matter of a wrong display message - in this case one would have to connect it to the charger every 2 - 3 days (guess the battery status) - not a very satisfactory solution, but maybe a solution until a new ROM arrives for non-branding devices.

Battery is dead - if it always shows 100%
I also have the 100% full loaded Problem!
It enoys me
LG has big Problems with their Batteries!
When you have that problem discribed above - your battery is the faulty crap.
Hardreset doesn`t help
So send your phone to LG to get a new battery,...
I am from Austria - LG Austria is not willed to help me - because LG Austria isn`t selling the KS20
The say like **** off - it`s not our problem
So I don`t know how I get a new battery.
My German Reseller told me that LG also has problems with delivering new batteries.
So a pice of crap - with Nokia they would never tell you - you don`t get support because you bought the mobile in Germany and not in Austria,...
Can anybody help me?
Shouldn`t LG Austria have to help me with my warranty?
GreeT`s Erich

I am also from Austria, bought the branding-free version at redcoon.at - they offer 2-year warranty, so I sent it back at the end of May. They probably sent it to LG Germany and it's still sitting there. I hope that according to my descriptions they will exchange the battery, otherwise I will be really pissed off. The repair takes 4 - 6 weeks they say. So I've bought a 400 EUR phone and have to stick with my old K750i for weeks, maybe for months.
I would not recommend anyone to buy this phone. It's on the market for 8 months now, no support, no drivers, no official updates. pure sh*t.
Anyone who wants a stylish mobile should go for the new HTC Diamond.
It's really worth the extra 100 EUR.
For those who have no warranty, I would recommend to plug it to the charger every 2 - 3 days until there are batteries available to buy directly from LG. Since everybody who got it's battery exchanged seems to be happy now, this should be the solution. IT DOES RECHARGE although it shows 100% full and the green led is on. I plugged it to the charger overnight and then it worked for about 3 days of extensive use without any shutdowns. So it's just the indicator that does not work.
Good luck!

The repair takes 4 - 6 weeks they say

Thats why I will not send my phone to LG!
I will try to get a new Battery.
LG- Service sucks damn hard,...
Greet`s Erich

i've got a MS25 Genius (american KS20 just without 3g, wifi, and VGA cam) from VIVO here in Brazil, and my battery stay always on 99%..
My clock is bugged too, always turns to the "Praga" clock when i sincronize with ativesync..
I'll not send my phone to LG Brasil! if they suyck in Europe they will suck a pretty much more in my ****ed up contry.. i don't want to stay 2 months without my phone..
Anyone's got a solution?
thank's!

I bought a new Battery - but not original LG.
Maybe a failure - because when I charge it - my phone turns off,...
The only advantage is it was half the price
I don`t knoe if LG has fixed the new batteries - because buying an original with the fuxing problem is sick
greet`s

back to initial thread, I also have a KS20 and got some 34/37MB after soft reset with default LG app disabled...
it doesn't appear to be that much and normal...

Omnia batterie status unreliable

Dear all,
first of all I would like to excuse my bad english... I´m from germany and I´m new here
I now try to describe my problem (it´s also a problem of some other german guys from our forum)
Maybe some of you have also a Samsung i900 Omnia cellphone. The problem is the batterie status indication: it´s absolutely unreliable!
For example: After loading the phone about 10hrs, I disconect it from the batteriecharger. Then (sometimes) it holds for 2 days the 100%. After that the indication goes rapidly down to 60%. Then a few hours later the indication only shows 10%. It´s absolutely unlinear!
Ok now, my Omnia is "online" for almost 4 days without charging! I think it´s enough, but is it possible to get the indication into a linear indication?
What I mean is that after charging the Omnia the "discharging" has to be indicated "linear". 100%, 90%, 80% and so on.
Maybe some of you cracks are able to program the ROM that this is possible?
Would be nice if some of you can give me a response about working on that!
Me and my friends in the german Forum "HANDY-FAQ.DE" would be really happy if somebody can take care about the "discharge-indication-problem"!
Best regards Tommes
Please tell me if this is the wrong forum, to put that question inside
Dear folks. Me and many other germans have the same problem. It would be really great to get your help.
@ Mod: Wrong Topic..
Anyways, the problem your encountering could be a number of things.. for example it could be true that your battery indicator isn't refreshing often enough or your battery could even be at fault here.
So there are a number of things you may try including:
1. Buying a new battery
2. Trying a different program to show your battery level such as Homescreen UI ++
3. Completely use your battery, remove it from the phone and clean the metal plates that connect the battery to the phone and then do a full charge and see how that goes.
4. Flashing the ROM on the phone
What is your ROM version.
Update your ROMS
Your batteries are fine - and seem to be lasting the same as the expected life of the omnia batteries. I am guessing you are on a "HH3" rom - I think that there was considerable amounts of comments about the reliability of the battery indicators on those roms. If you update to HI1,23 or HJ1 then the problem should be fixed.
You should be able to source a rom at modaco.com in the omnia forum.
Sorry for wroong topic
My Firmware is : PDA: i900XGHH4/AKHH5 TEL: i900BOHH2
I´m surprised now about my indication : Since sunday my Omnia is still ONLINE!!!
I now have only one beam but thats more than OK for me!!! It holds almost5 days now, with watching videos using wlan and the camera !!! Thats great
@Aegishua: I think it´s a refreshing problem, because in our forum are a lot of peoples have this problem! The Battery is ok I guess!
And the thing with the update: In germany there´s no official FW Update avail at the moment. We have to wait for that, otherwise the warranty for the Omnia will be lost.
I´ll observe further how it is working and then if the update is avail I´ll tell it to you guys!

2400mAh battery is not recognised, does not charge

Hi there!
I just got a new 2400mAh battery for my charmer (PM16A; 3.7VDC) and turned the device off to completely charge the new batt. For 3h there was no light indicating a charging progress so I turned the charmer on (no LED signal at all) and the OS booted. The system runs extremely slow and the battery status is not being recognised.
Has anybody made some experience with the bigger batteries or any idea why the system runs but no charging is being done? The battery is explicitly displayed to be fully compatible with the MDA Compact II...
Thanks in advance,
Gore
I called the dealer today and he told me that this battery is well known for causing troubles. I sent it back and told the dealer to keep me informed if any improvements are made by the manufacturer. He also told me that this (chinese) manufacturer seems to be the only one building those 2400mAh batteries, so if you're suggesting to buy one, think it over at the moment...
If I get any information about the issue I'll post it here.
So long,
Gore
What ROM is on your device? The batdriver.dll can cause such problems. What is shown? -1%? And what size is said? Does it say 0mA or 2400mA?
Give me infos I'll try to help you with my "how drivers are" skils.
Edit: Seen post now. Can you remember any answers on my questions. Cuase I think it would help others too.
I have cYBERDEls WM6.1 Manila 2d German Ed. installed. It runs perfectly with my old battery, fast and stable, but the battery turns off at 60% (4 years old - no surprise I guess). With the new one it seems to charge, although no orange light present. When entering the battery status in the OS, it said something like status unavailable or battery unavailable. And it runs extremely slow which it does not with the old one.
I'm sorry I cannot say anything about the current size, as the battery status driver of that WM6.1 version is unable to display...
I tried the Battfix.cab as well just to make sure but no change.
Thanks for helping,
Gore
OK that is a batdriver.dll problem. I'll upload some versions later or tomorow. Just try them.
And if you installed batfix.cab it will charge without the light, But the power you're using can also be the power with witch it came. (They are charged to 50%-80% to live long without being used)
-> "I'll upload some versions later or tomorrow"
That would be just great. Lucky me, I didn't actually send the package away yet, but will rip it open again
Which problem is solved by the batdriver.dll?
Btw, good luck with your 6.5 development, I'm really looking forward to it!
The batdriver will hopefully recognize the battery. (I'll give you Prophet and Wizard ones cause they suppoert only the big batteries I think). And WM6.5 will first just be English. Cause I have to translate everything manually to German.
Hope I can fix your problem.
Hey anything new about the batdriver.dll? Did you upload it somewhere or could you post a link to a proper driver in the Prophet or Wizard section if there is one? Sorry for shoving you...
Gore
Soory now time till now. I'll try to get some today or tomorow and post them here.

iPAQ 614c - odd reboots when battery in half

So yes , when the battery is like 50 or something similar (or 44) some times (some times !) when i get a call (and i use my phone for bussines so this is kind of disturbing...) when call is recived phone reboots , or stays in a state in which the screen goes dark , vibrate is on (its enabled for call along with ringtone) and nothing only reset helps (using stylus)
I had official rom 6.0 (sucks but im sure everyone knows that fact) Yevg001 WM6.1 same crap , i really dont know whats wrong , but its like that since i bought it i suppose i just charge to full when i leave home and not worry, but there are days when i need to make and recive lots of calls from customers etc , and as the phone reboots there isnt any record what was the last call
Any one had this ? any suggestions , hell i'll even change rom if some one solved it that way , but i did that from 6.0 > 6.1 same
All help appreciated
i heard it is a defective battery circuit issue, i suggest you contact hp for exchange
Okay , but i've bought it in poland (well online) but i've got the recit, so this must be sent to HP,how much time can it take (i know they will give me some Toshiba G910 as replace for few days but...i would like to know some estimate from experience of any one who returned it to RMA
Thanks for the info i was wondering what is going on with my phone
My experience with hp guarantee service is excellent, they replaced my 614c bricked unit in only one week, with their pick and return service. they work with UPS saver service.
They ask me to send just the device (without battery, sd card, stylus and battery cover). Then all was as they told me it shoud be. In your case i dont know how it will be, as it is a battery issue the warranty procedures could be different.

HTC Sense in HD2

Hi,
I have recently purchased my HD2 and its been a couple of months now since I'm utilizing it. Barely exploring my phone features, it hangs 20 times in view of the following encountered predicaments :-
1) Receiving 2 simultaneous SMS
2) Receiving an MMS
3) Pressing on any of the keys on the phone whenever receiving an SMS
Well, the list goes on and on. So, in resolving this issue, SIS (Malaysia) had agreed to change a new phone for me. And so they did. Tested it on the spot and everything was working fine, but just after a few days later, the problem reoccur itself again. This time, the entire phone hangs up. No keys can be activated, neither the phone can be turned on.
Firstly, its a brand new phone, so this kinda problem should not arise. Secondly, its no doubt troublesome to flip the back cover and press the tiny red button to perform a soft reset. Why in the darn first place the soft reset button isn't placed outside ? (just liky my old TYTN II)
So I have read a couple of forums with regards to this matter and came upon two conclusions in the end. One, the Manila.exe is the main culprit towards the hanging of the device and two, the HTC Sense application program has a flaw in between. Well, there's a temporary workaround though (that is if you do not want to flip the back cover over and over again), which is to leave the phone idle for 48 hours, let the battery drain itself off and then recharge back the phone again.
48 hours is a long time to wait though, and as a professional worker in my line of work, I really do not have that much of an ample time to linger around waiting for it to run out of juice. I'm totally very much dissapointed with the purchasement of the HTC HD2 as not only the technicians at the SIS (Malaysia) could not get to reproduce my predicaments, they cant even get to solve the hanging issue which I'd reckon, that's what I've been spending most of my time on my new phone (rather than to explore what is has to offer)
Is there a work around to the HTC Sense / Manila.exe problem ? Other suggestions would be to turn off the HTC Sense, but you know what ? Turning off the HTC Sense will be something like buying an Aston and driving it at 40kpmh all the way till the south of France !!! The phone's interface will be dull, and not to mentioned, it will be more a less pictured like my old TYTN II
I do not really have such problems for the HTC TYTN II though, not even one hang moment. Please XDA developers / experts, I'm indeed begging for a solution in resolving this reoccuring problem that somehow not only it will tarnish the brand HTC, it will also loose faith of the end consumers in the market.
why don't you ask SIS to change the phone again?
Just want to say one thing ... "Stock ROM's Suck" , hate to be that blunt but the stock ROMs they put on this beautiful hardware just seem to be time bombs, waiting to explode when you get them home ...
Should flash that sucker!!
To dan138zig
Well, that was my last resort to them, in order to solve it once and for all. I've been travelling to SIS to and fro for 4 times and yet the problem is still left unresolved. They've even tested it in their environment and it works fine (for the 1st two visits). But somehow, they manage to simulate the issue and they replaced the chipboard.
Now, replacing the chipboard was to the previous original phone, though even after the replacement, it still didnt solve the problem. So ding dong here and there, and after several "consultations" with their higher level managment, they agreed to change a new phone for me, off the hook (not undergoing formal procedures, whereby I'll have to wait for another two weeks)
So, getting a brand new phone I'd reckon my miseries will be resolved, but then the hanging problem reoccur itself today again. It seems that the HTC Sense is the main culprit though, after reading a few forums off the Net. And for a "premanent" solution (that is if HTC does not come out with any ROM / fixes / enchancements), I've gotta turn off the HTC Sense feature.
Well, buying a phone that cost 2K plus had already put a large damage in my wallet, now having to face this consequences after the purchasement is a real icing on the cake. What do you think ? If you're in my shoes, what would you do ?

I totally couldnt agree with you more. In my view, they should just have throw the Win OS away and put in the Andriod version of it. Its always windows version mobile phones that are giving the most headache to me when it comes to utilizing it.

Have you tried getting a new SIM? Sounds like the problem only happens when its talking to the network, and as you've had 2 handsets, i'd give a SIM change a go.
On the plus side........... at least you get 48hrs battery life.......
Not much use though if your phone doesnt work I suppose.....

Well, my SIM's working perfectly fine though, it does not give me any form of problem with my old TYTN II neither with other HTC devices I've checked with a few friends of mine. I do really suspect its the Sense that's the real culprit in the hanging of the device. Just really hope that they clear up this predicament with a new release of the ROM

haha, forty eight hours of baterry life ? well, I wouldn't bet on it. Have tried using it extensively and even before it reaches sunset, the battery is out. And guess what ? It's a brand new battery.
The phone's terrific, but sadly, the battery isnt. Its just like you are viewing a beautiful girl from bottom up till the next and the next thing you know it, viewing her face just makes you wanna vomit over and over again
So that's how I could sum up the HD2 as a whole. Most comparison commentators out there did place the HD2 side by side with the IPhone 3Gs. Both eventually also will end up running out of juice in 48 hours when you're performing your day to day call basis

The HTC Support and Releases still does not solve the problem, mate. Its something that HTC R&D as well as the QA team needs to sit down and extensively test the entire device from bottoms up till all forms of problem is resolved thereafter.

[HELP] my Omnia7 will not stay in standby! it switchs on alone

Hello guys,
I have a very strange but really bad problem: my omnia7 can't stay in standby.
When I press the power button, to turn off the screen and go in standby (so not the full turn off), my Omni7 wakes up alone, going on the unlock screen. In the same time, the phone rings with the ring that is played when you connect the phone for charging.
I've tried reboot, reset, hardreset, removing the sim-card, turning on/off "battery saver options" ... still that issue :crying:
Anyone has an idea?
I've flashed with a cooked rom (xda-devs Omnia7 Tango V4.0)
my current config :
OS version : 7.10.8779.8
hard version : 3.1.0.4
soft radio version : 2424.11.7.2
hard radio version : 0.0.0.800
loader version : 4.10.1.9
SOC version : 0.36.2.0
Thanks to any ideas, because that problem is killing me
my phone started doing this late last night too! i thorght it was because rain had gone into the power socket but if others are having same problem at the same time maybe not?
has your phone been exposed to water at all recently? is your phone jailbroken? cant realy think of other reasons
the problem stops when the phone is plugged in. is there anything that can trick the phone to thinking it is on charge? I have wphtweaks installed but the options there are not able to stop it
Hi,
I can't remember if my phone has been wet :/ I take care, so my phone never received water. But when I'm outside, under the rain, it's possible.
Today it was better, just a few times my phone wakes up alone.
I'll give you feedback in the next days. Let me know about yours
I managed to trick my phone into silence a few times earlier but it was difficult and then only lasted 5-10 minutes.
if yours didnt get wet it seems unlikely to do with water but I left mine ontop of the aga after removing the battery and over a relativly cool part. A few hours later and it seems to be working fine now.
I will report back if the issue arises again.
EDIT: Ahhhh!! STOP THE RINGING!!! started again this morning
Mine too !
This morning ... the ringing awakening problem !!!!!
But it was better this afternoon.
Really I don't know what happens.
Are we only two persons in the xda world with this problem????
this is realy weird now! mine was doing it in the morning but since about 12pm - 1pm it has been fine! I feel like its something to do with an installed homebrew app maybe.
I also have a custom rom but mine was flashed a long time ago and much older than yours. not sure which version
EDIT (1:10pm GMT): no problems since yesterday
EDIT2 (1:30pm GMT): again i spoke too soon!
Did you guys get this problem sorted out? Had the same problem recently and tried all the suggestions in other threads (bend USB pin, Reset/Restore Device etc) but nothing fixed it, so after being woken at 3am by constant charging tone, took to T-Mobile shop. They said it was a software problem. I said I'd tried all that and the most likely cause I'd seen on the internet was a duff USB port.
Anyway, T-Mobile sent it off for repair and 7 days later - returned and fixed. The repair sheet said software upgrade, but the phone had been reset to bog standard Phone 7, so unlikely. The T-Mobile repair tracking site (excellent) which shows blow-by-blow trace of what and where, showed initial software upgrade/no fix but I used their "contact us" facility to suggest a USB problem and by magic the repair tracking log showed a replacement USB port.
BTW - had to resort to an iphone and HTC android while Omnia was off for repair. Now I know why I like Phone 7 and can't wait for 8. The iphone GUI is so last decade and Android GUI is really just a copy of Windows 6.5 with XDA developers' tweaks isn't it.
Hi Wuzzok,
what do you mean by "bend USB pin" ?
Anyway, it seems like it's finished for me. I didn't get tht strange bug (soft/hard bug???) for a very long time. I just hope it's really over !
Same problem
Hi Folks,
I have the same problem, too. Yesterday afternoon on my way home the phone started ringing with the USB plug sound and always started up itself from standby mode.
As I have a custom ROM (mi7ROM) I first thought it could be a problem with the ROM - although I could not really believe it since it was running stable for months now. I flashed it again and nothing changed - still ringing and starting up itself
I managed to get rid of the sound by deleting the entry in the registry key "Local Machine\Current User\ControlPanel\Sounds\BatteryCharging\Sound" but that does not solve the real problem.
After reading here and in some other WP7 blogs I am sure that this is a hardware problem with the USB plug unit. As my phone is just 11 months old I opened an online ticket at "SAMSUNG online repair service" who promise to answer in the next 24 hours. So I just have to wait and see...

Samsung sent me an offer to send the phone in for repair - but what should I say, the problem solved itself. For two days now the phone works normal again. So I had to cancel the service call .
mine hasnt done it in a long time either. looks like its just a temporary thing. I wonder what caused it! For me it started after I was using my phone in the rain and the usb slide was open so thats my suspect.
You may be right. Mine is "quiet" now, since a long time. Water may be the cause.
Update
Hi folks,
mine is mostly quiet again, too. Only few incidents "happen" but they do not last very long - only a few minutes. It's somehow spooky but I do not want to send it in to Samsung now when the error it not constantly reproducible.
I agree with you that there might be a correlation with humidity although I am sure that it did never get wet and I almost always keep the USB-shutter closed. Who knows ...
Sent it in
Finally I sent it in for repair today. It started ringing permananently two days ago...
Now I have to wait and see.
Final state
Okay, I received it back... and it works.
First they did nod find and could not reproduce the failure and wanted to send it back - only with a new flashed image - but fortunately the technician called me and I could describe the problem again. After waiting a few hours, the fault appeared again and they decided to change the mainboard.
I hope, that's all
Hello,
Me too it makes me after my omnia 7 is dropped in water, but problem solved.
Me too

BTW - had to resort to an iphone and HTC android while Omnia was off for repair. Now I know why I like Phone 7 and can't wait for 8. The iphone GUI is so last decade and Android GUI is really just a copy of Windows 6.5 with XDA developers' tweaks isn't it.
