For some reason I cannot get me PocketCM contacts manager to open up when I press on "Contacts" on the bottom right of my screen,
-HTC Mogul 6800 Sprint
It should have done this as part of the installation so the first step would be to un-install then re-install.
If that doesn't work you will either have to edit the registry (you can search here for the "how-to") or use a program such as Tweaks 2k2 (which unfortunately isn't free) to remap the right soft key if directly fiddling with the registry is a bit to daunting.
There may be other ways but those 3 are the first to my mind. If you haven't already done so you may wish to find the pocket cm thread on here or go directly to the pocket cm website (google it) and have a look around their forums.
hope that helps.

I have just got my first Windows Mobile 5 Device, a MDA Vario. Its great, but Ive put Photo Contacts Pro on it, and changed the home screen soft key from contacts to Photocontactspro. Thing is, the app name is too long and gets cut off to "photo con"
Is there anyway to rename this softkey?
Thanks
You can do that in the registries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 - right key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 - left key
Values:
Default=Button label
Open=command
Cool, thanks
Hmmm
I wonder if you can help me.
I tried VITO ButtonManager and it has well and truly screwed up my softkey definitions for the Today Screen.
The right one seems to change what is does and the left one does not work at all.
I have disabled Button Manger but still cannot get the softkeys to work again.
How would I reset them to their original values?
Please bear in mind I have NEVER changed a registry key before?

Remapping SoftKeys
Robster, there is a complete incompatibility between our Wizard and VitoButtonMapper soft.
For interested people there is a specific soft to change Right and Left key applications (for instance, the right softkey is now launching TomTom instead of Contact).
Juste time to find where I may share this soft with you !
You could just follow the registry tweaks up top
It's not much more difficult from using Windows Explorer and notepad
I have searched on these topics and havent found anything definitive:
1. Is there a way to add some icons to the lower part of the today screen? (near the pocket msn app icons on the today screen). Other than installing Claunch and recreating the whole Today screen.
2. Making the 'ok' button easier to use with your hands...any way?
3. How do I remove icons from the Programs section? (all the pre installed crap)
Try searching there are previous posts on these things. Don't forget advanced search options.

Like I said, I did search (i wasnt lying in my first post):
1. search results are about completely re doing the Today screen, ie: cLaunch as I mentioned.
2. Ok button solution is not something you can easily search for an answer on without some outside advice.
3. Again another vague search that reports tons of results and nothing specific to what I am asking about....
So I ask again, does anyone have any insight to these topics?
I do appreciate what you say, it can be difficult to pin a search down. If I get chance I try to look around later if someone has not answered first!

I use SBSH iLauncher to add shortcuts to the tray at the bottom of the today screen. I use AE Button Plus to make the OK buttons actually close apps, as well as to make buttons multifunctional ie I have the left soft key set to launch the taskmanager for iLauncher upon double clicking in addition to its native function. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but thought it might help. Removing icons from the program section has to be done through the registry. If you are referring to removing icons from the default start menu that can be done with the menu option in settings.
Thanks guys...which reg keys house the program listing in the Programs folder? Thanks for the help Mike, I searched a ton...so many vague results on the topics as broad as these...
Thanks again...
Removing programs from start menu/programs is a bit easier than reghacks if I understand you correctly. With file Manager, go to windows/start menu/programs. This folder contains a list of shortcuts that corresponds to what you see when you choose programs from the start menu. Now just delete the shortcuts you don't want.
Anyone know how to map the Calendar and Contacts softkeys at the bottom of the today screen WITHOUT using advanced config?
Simple regedit.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys
112: Left Soft Key
113: Right Soft Key
112 will already be there, you just need to edit "Default" (what it says at the bottom of the screen) and "Open" (path to the prog you want to open). You will need to add 113.
It's one of the first things I do after a flash... have the left one mapped to Total Commander and the right one to Remote Desktop (I have three web servers that I admin through my 6800).
or look around for a cab called boz soft key...its a very simple program to change your soft keys.

I used to be too skeered to do registry edits. Now I want to try them, but don't even know how to get there. I understand I should use Total Commander, but how? What do I do? I figure this would be a good learning opportunity. Would you (answerman or anyone) be willing to give step by step instructions using whatever registry editor you use? I tried to find some, but couldn't.
Resco
All I had to do is switch to Resco Explorer and use its registry editor and it all makes sense. Total Commander is totaly confusing. Resco is simple and straight forward and the newest version even offers a finger friendly option that is even a lot more simple than looking at a tree.
I used Soft Key to change the shortcut @ the bottom of my screen i only wanted to change Calendar to New SMS, But when i started the Program it made me change both soft keys & Contacts is not in the list. Now i have New SMS & anything but Contacts.
Any body else had this problem? or does anyone have a fix for this????
Funny enough even if i navigate :
Start
Settings
Menus
Contacts is not in that list either.......Weird......
I have attached screen shots to help.
Thanks....
Learn to use the registry. The keys you are looking for are in:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Today/Keys
Key 112 is your left soft key, and key 113 is your right soft key. You just rename the, "Default" value to what you want to appear on the screen, and the, "Open" value to what you want to launch (the Contacts.lnk is in the /Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder I believe).
Oh, and get Schaps Registry Editor before any of that. ; )

Thanks for the info you have given but im afraid it don't help cause the contacts.ink or even contacts.exe is nowhere to be found on my device not even in the windows folder....
I have attached a screen shot for you to see.
Thanks again.
And by the way i use PHM Registry Editor.....
Do you already have "Contacts" in your start menu? On my phone, I have Contacts in my start menu, and it is no longer in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs but it is listed in Windows/Start Menu. I think it moves the .lnk over when it's active in the start menu. Just a thought.
I mean, it has to be on the phone somewhere. Although I can't seem to locate it in Windows either...kind of makes me wonder where the phone is pulling it from when I select it...hmm...
No it's not in my start menu, proof is in 1 of the attachments in my1st post.
Last nite i installed PocketCM and used soft key to choose the shortcut to it.
Now i have what i originally wanted
Left Shortcut:......New SMS
Right Shortcut:....Contacts (through PocketCM)
Sorted.........

Yeah, I use iContact v0.6. I'd love to use PocketCM if it didn't try and do so much more than just contacts. It's refusal to stop trying to handle SMS is what makes me stay away from it.
Not to sure what you mean about PocketCM taking over SMS just switch it off in options if you dont like it.....
I use PocketCM V0.23 together with TouchPal 3.0 and the SMS option works well for me if anything better than the original cause it shows the whole conversation and it makes it easier for you to remember what you texting about he he he....
Try it.....
I've got a similar problem:
My right softkey was Calendar, some time ago it said "shortcut not found".
I set it again using Schap's Advanced Config, but it kept disappearing 2 or 3 times.
Now, the links for Calendar and Contacts have disappeared in the Start Menu!
I was able to copy the calendar.lnk from the \Windows directory, but there is no contacts.exe.
I do not use PocketCM, so that's not the root cause...
Try installing PocketCM and use that for a while to see it that shortcut dissapears aswell.....
Sounds like we have all got gremlins in our Hermes!!!!!!!! he he he

thanks, i did do a search and the reg edits didn't work, but eventually i figured out the problem, another program was still messing with it, had to uninstall it
