Hello,
Anyone knows how to unlock the T-Mobile Wing, if so, please let me know.
Your help will be appreciated
Thanks
if by unlocked you mean a sim-unlock, contact your service provider ~90 days after you purchased your phone and ask for the unlock code.
if by unlocke you mean a CID-unlock, go to the WM6 forum and hard-spl your phone. Make sure you follow the directions.
In the future, please search before you post.
I meant sim-unlocked. I was just wondering, 90 days is much to wait ...
Do you know how to sim-unlock it?

Sure! You have 2 choices. Either pay for an unlock code on line or be a T-Mobile customer for 90 days in good standing and get it free.
I'm in the US Navy. I explained to the service rep that I was going overseas and wanted my unlock code. I got it no problem. This was 3 days after I bough my phone.
oh is that so? its good to know.
and also, thank you for your service to our country.

I dont kno who in the world TOLD u its 90 days...but smack them...u def call t-mobile...tell them ur going on a trip and u need ur wing unlocked...they ask for the imei and an email to mail the instructions...i got mine in 45 hrs...look man...I've sat quiet and watched people just make up advice an answers...lol
Really? How long have you been with TMobile? I unlocked my phone after 90 days with tmobile (the wing was my first tmobile phone). It might be different for those that upgraded though, especially if they 've been with tmobile since they were voicestream (like my mom).
I would like to +1 to the going overseas. I went to guam for a month and wanted to use my phone there. They sent me the unlock code in about 2 days I think. Once there I used a local GSM provider on a pay as you go. was like $70 for a pre-paid with 1200 minutes that called the US for 1 to 1 minutes. It wasn't too bad.
I guess, I will have to wait. The thing is, I am T-Mobile customer since 02, but I got the phone from my cousin who signed a new contract with T-Mobile less than 2 weeks ago, just to give me the Wing, since he has N95.
I just thought there might be a way to sim unlock it without payin for unlock codes on ebay,...

i've been wit T-mobile since Voicestream
I've been with T-mobile, Voicestream, Powertel .... going back to the early 90's
Quick question, and sorry of this seems dumb.
Why do I need to "unlock" the phone and what does it achieve? I have had the Wing for any about 2 months but I will be leaving in a few to go out of the country and need it working. I have had standard phones in the past and they always worked outside the US.
One more, I live in Colorado and went up to do some snowboarding over the weekend and had no service...I always have service there, does this unlocking thing have something to do with that?
I have flashed to a new ROM recently that I found here so it is not stock.
Unlocking has nothing to do with your problem. I live on a hill, almost eye-level with a Sprint cell phone tower, and I get 2 bars most times in my living room.

In that case I am a bit concerned about not having service at Copper Mountain.
I wish I could remember but I went up a few weeks back and I think...I am not sure, I had flashed this new ROM just before that, and I had service so I belive this new ROM worked up there before. Now, Saturday it did not, not even weak signal, just "searching..." I though also it might have something to do with a cab I downloaded last week to fix my problem with not receiving MMS. My MMS works now and here in town, I get fine service but why would it not work at this resort? I have always has great service up there, even on the top of the mountain. My friend has Cingular and his phone had great signal.
Unlocking enables you to use any other SIM card on your phone. it has nothing to do with the reception. Your issue would be the new ROM you flashed, try a different Radio and that should help.

Actually, I should have been more specific. I know what unlocking does (both types), I am just not sure if I need to do it or not. Do I NEED to do it if I am leaving for Europe for my phone to work? My previous phones I have had worked with no problem in every country I have been to. But I am not sure about a PPC.
What would cause my phone to only work in a specific area? When I got back to town, I had fine reception. Just not at the resort and it had previously worked fine. Could it be a setting that got changed when I added that cab to update setting for MMS or is that just data connection settings? The cab was listed here on post # 205.

I have the same ROM (Touch IT 4.4) and have had issues with the MMS so have used exactly the same CAB you pointed out-
I did notice that the reception is worse with the 4.4 so i dont think its any issue with the CAB. Like i recommenced, try a new Radio, some could boost your reception. ( but yea, places where i had 4 bars now only has 2 or less, so i would say its the Radio issue rather than the MMS Cabs you installed)

OK, thanks! So can I get just a new radio version or do I need a new ROM?
Hi. I'm new to these devices and have a question regarding the 2 phone options. I come from the iphone. I have a factory unlocked iphone that I use a tmobile sim in. I ordered the nexus one with the plan today. My question is are these phones like iphones where the one through tmobile is locked to tmobile. In my situation att sucks. I would never use them and do not plan on switching carriers. And these phones won't work on any other carriers until the spring. So, I like tmobile and went that route. My iphone takes any sim so I can hopefully swap the tmobile one out. If I am wrong please let me know. Anyway, are the tmobile ones locked to them so popping in a att sim won't work or is the phone not locked and they just want the contract?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock
If you bought the phone at $180 with the Tmobile plan then it is locked, meaning you can only use it with Tmobile. After a certain period of time though, you can call tmobile and ask to unlock your phone and they will walk you through it.
A locked phone means you can only use it on the carrier's service you bought the phone from. An unlocked phone is a phone you can use on any carrier.
Locked and unlocked phones have to do with GSM phones or phones that take SIM cards like Tmobile and ATT. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA phones, which do not have SIM cards.
When buying an unlocked phone, you need to make sure the phone will be compatible with your wireless service's 3G band or you will be stuck using their slower data offerings.
I found this out the hard way back when I bought an unlocked Nokia n95 with my Tmobile service. The Nokia n95 operates on ATT's 3G frequency and not Tmobiles...I had super slow internet on tmo's EDGE network. Fail.
If you do buy a phone from a carrier and it is locked, you can unlock it by calling the phone carrier and telling them you want to unlock your phone. Most carriers allow you to do that after you've had your phone for a certain period of time.
Thanks for the reply. Looks to be locked to tmobile which is fine for my situation. Sorry to be such a bother, but do you think it will work in my unlocked iphone then. I just want to be able to switch the sim between my N1 and iphone. Thanks again.

Yes. You WILL be able to switch between GSM phones
That makes more sense to me. Also, my question is answered now. I don't mind tmobile as they are the premiere carrier here. Att doesn't even have 3g here and tmobile does. So, I made the right choice then. I wouldn't ever use an unlocked N1 on att for that reason. Now if it will work in my iphone life will be grand. Just to put this out there. I have no favorite software or phone. I usually get what works for what I need. I have far too many apps on my iphone to give it up. Probably upwards of $500 worth. I literally run my business on it. I am just sick of the fact that this phone was $1000 and I can't even do anything to it. I am making my way the android for that reason. Once the apps I do need come available bye bye iphone. Thanks for the great forum everyone and all willing to help out with answers. Much appreciated.
BTW. Ever try getting and iphone unlocked from apple or att. It would be easier to root the droid eris. Wife has one and I'm waiting. LOL
no if you get it for 180$ its STILL UNLOCKED!

Never realized how controlling apple was until that comment melterX12. I'm getting a phone that is not locked on a plan I do want.
very true... hence the subsidized pricing and what not. the phone is unlocked which is why you have to pay more for it if you want to break your contract before the *so many days...
i'm pretty sure thats a good hint as to it coming unlocked through the t-mobile offer
All my past ppc's have been unlocked. It the best way, and it going to now (thanks to google) be the wave of the future in the States!
So I bought a N920W8 from Bell (Canada) and I didn't put a bell sim card in it when first powered on the device, but a Wind Mobile sim(Bell store people didn't touch the phone when bought). I was all ready with my unlock code I purchased and what do you know? IT WASN'T LOCKED TO BELL! It worked on Wind as if it was an unlocked phone. Then I had an idea to put a Bell sim card in and BAM! DEVICE IS SIM LOCKED. Seems that the phone locked itself to the first sim card's carrier it sees. This might be different for US/overseas models that are carrier specific, but here in Canada all our carrier use the N920W8...same firmware as far as I can tell. I can change CSC codes without problems too, however I did SIM unlock the phone before I tried that to avoid any soft bricking issues that might arise. Pass on the good news!
Weird that this happened. I traded my phone for a Note 5 a couple days ago, not expecting it to work with Wind at all (it was apparently unlocked, but I instantly figured an unlocked Bell phone would never work with Wind so theres no point in trying), well a couple days passed, and I said what rhe heck, so I popped my phone in, got the Neteork Locked Sim [enter unlock code], entered the unlock code, and about 10 mins later, it worked!
I was so happy that I didnt have to take the extra time to trade the note 5 for a wind compatible one.
I too have to N920W8 version (which is considered the n9208 here)
This is my first Samsung phone, ever.. Rooting it was... different, and the extreme lack of rom/kernel support is staggering. Any tips?

Well. First thing that comes to mind is that you've got some more reading to do. As most of your assumptions are just wrong.
But not to bust your chops, you have to know, every w8 Canadian model, regardless of provider, is essentially same phone. Difference being only in active csc loaded. Starting with this year, putting first sim in brand new phone determines your active csc. It is easily changed.
Where you might get some issues is for some providers options like VoLTE, you still need rogers/fido phone as they discriminate based on imei for those features, which means only phone sold by them.
More importantly, I have no clue how and why you would get that our w8 model would have anything to do with 9208 model (which is Asian dual sim)? It does not.
Our phone, is actually identical to tmobile 920t, with only one difference. The modem. Which for several generations has to be signed, and not interchangeable once set by samsung.
So if you need roms, kernels etc, look in tmobile thread, with Canadian specific install instructions.
Rooting samsung nowadays is the same procedure as nexus owners have with android 6+.
1.Custom recovery, root, custom kernel done.
2.In case of system less root, custom recovery, system less root package, done.
Lastly. Read Canadian thread in this section for some Canadian specific insights.
All the best.
Edit: And now you've got cf-autoroot since today. Easiest.
Note 5 ?
Hi,
I've used Sprint for a couple of months and i just cant live with it. The reception is incredibly poor in the place where i live. My housemate who uses Lycamobile has a much better reception. So i have made up my mind to go with Lyca. I submitted a request to unlock my device earlier today. Now, i have a few doubts on how i can move to Lyca without any problems
- How do i check if my device is unlocked?
- Once the device is unlocked, is it unlocked for good? Or do i need to keep the Sprint SIM handy everytime there is a samsung update?
- Do i need to flash a different firmware to make it work with Lyca? If yes, which one.
- If i don't need to flash a different firmware, how do i remove all the Sprint Junk off my phone?
I'm a noob when it comes to Sprint devices. Apologies if you think if the above questions are too basic.
Any help?
