for anyone else who has this issue, (assuming internet explorer)
go to (on your pc) tools, internet options, connections, then down to LAN settings.
Add a tick to proxy and then the IP 149.254.201.132 and port 8080
This worked a treat. It may be possible to add in the proxy directly onto your phone in the proxy settings but i have a feeling it doesnt work the same way.

Hi , i am very new to pocket pc and so far its been good until i decide to use my HTTP proxy server with pocket ie,
firstly i dont get why pocket pc has My isp and My work sections on connection settings
secondly if i setup an gprs apn to isp section i cant use or add proxy server settings to it, if i create same apn on my work network section i can add and use my proxy server, thats ok i went advenced section and changed both (programs that connect to internet and private network) auto. used networks to my networkbut now if i try to get my emails with my ppc outlook can not connect to internet unlesss i change first setting ( programs that connect automaticly to the internet setting) back to my isp and if i do that pocket ie wont use my proxy server, is there any way to use porx server on pocket ie?

The proxy assumes all connections with a dot in the name go to the proxy and that the proxy supports socks or winsock to connect. So company's that use a proxy to speed up access to the internet like when you use wireless will experience issues with e-mail due to this issue. So with the connection to Work, you can get to the web but no otherservice. So if you set it to The Internet then you can get e-mail but no web. "

Well I have searched everywhere and found nothing.
Well my college has wifi but it uses a proxy to access the internet.
So in Internet explorer on my desktop/laptop there is a direct option in the lan settings to specify a proxy ip and prot.
how do i do the same for my xda2s running 5.0.

The way to go about doing this is to set up a proxy server under Start> Setings>Connections>Connections. Under My Work Network, select "Set Up My Proxy Server" and check the boxes for "This Network connects to the internet" and "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet". Click on the "advanced" setting which should open up a window where you can choose your proxy port and enter your port address & numbers. Note when using pass through or any other connection that doesnt use the same proxy, make sure you turn your proxy port settings off (by unchecking the "this NW uses proxy port" check box). I hope this solves your problem.
Alternatively, a solution I've found which works is to use Opera Mobile - you can specify an HTTP and/or HTTPS proxy to use (in the form of hostname/iport) and then when you connect it just asks you to authenticate against it and boom: you're good to go.
No more faffing about with My Work Network, half the time I could never get connectivity with my Alpine when I did it like that (which meant it tried to dial up to the GPRS)... However if I'm not using Opera for one reason or another, I will use the My Work Network method with my TyTn. Both ways work just as well, I just think the Opera solution is neater because you can just set all your wifi networks as 'connects to the Internet'.

I have a Vodafone branded X1 which I'm using with my T-Mobile sim. I have gone into the registry and unlocked the default connections (My ISP and WEB) and changed them to work with T-Mobile.
Opera, panels, IE and comm manager connect fine.
Messaging (Email), Windows Live, and Messenger all say they cannot connect (It doesn't even look like they try and connect)
It appears they have been set to only work with Vodafone's default settings, is there anywhere i can modify to make these work?
when you edited WEB and My ISP did you untick the connect to internet via proxy option? but leave this connection connects to internet checked
hotmail etc is working on my phone and the only changes i've made are the ones i gave you on the other thread, except I'm on o2.
Yep, I did all that and I still get problems, the message I get from Windows Live is "Windows Live was unable to establish an Internet connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider."
It doesn't even try to use the My ISP or WEB connections before it shows that message.

i had a similiar problem where only opera connected and not msn.
I removed all connections completely (do not only edit them) and restart and recreate.
then it started to work again..
ried removing all the connections completely and I still get the same issues with mail and messenger.
It looks to me like they aren't even trying to look for, or establish a connection before throwing the error
that's exactly how it looked to me, when I was trying to fix it last night. then it all fell into place. it almost looked like it new it wasn't going to work and couldn't be bothered trying! I think the last thing I did was disable connecting by proxy on the WEB connection.
I promise you it is something wrong with your settings and not with Live or Messaging.
I've tried everything I think I can with the connection settings, can you list your settings please eyebeebe?

Gateway (IP) address :149.254.1.10 (alt: 149.254.201.132)
Username : user (alt: wapuser)
Password: wap
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Port number: 8080 (alt: 9201)
Authentication: Normal
Is your Artemis on T-mobile? Can you mirror it's settings? For example you made need to connect via proxy and enter the Gateway IP address as above if you haven't already.

Has anyone been able to configure proxy over wifi? I changed the connection to My Work Network, and changed entered the proxy settings for this connection, but internet is not working for Internet Explorer and Wheater. The only thing I'm able to use is opera, going to the opera:config option and setting the proxy server there.
Using this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1990412#post1990412, the first time I tried to browse with IE, I was asked for the proxy setting (inside the browser), but I'm not able to do it again.
Hope someone knows the trick.

Im using a htc hd2 with WM6.5
Does anyone know of a mobile browser in which I can change SOCKS proxy settings - just like mozilla firefox? (ive tried minimo and fennec a3, but no good, unless I could use some addon in fennec).
I want to tell my browser to listen on port 1080 for a SOCKS connection (im port forwarding with pocketputty).
Alternatively, does a program like 'tsocks' exist for windows mobile, in which I can socksify for my mobile browser? I havent used tsocks before btw.
Or finally, is there a way to edit the registry in WM6.5 so that the browser does listen on port 1080 for SOCKS?

I believe you have to modify the connection entry - I'm guessing you're using wifi, right?
When you create the connection entry, you can associate the connection with a proxy to work properly. Gonna grab my phone and update how-to in a minute....

For me on ATT, I have 2 options - media net and "work" - under "work" there is a setting for proxy server. Go through those options and set appropriately.
Then, when you're done with this, go back and modify your connection (wireless I'm guessing) to associate that connection with the "work" profile and not the "internet" profile.
I had to do this with my work - which uses just a basic forwarding proxy.

im not using wifi, im using telstra's next g network. I can get mobile broadband pretty much anywhere in all major cities.
Ill just explain a bit more as to what im doing so you can understand. Im dynamically forwarding port 1080 from a remote SSH server back to my phone, then i want to tell my browser to 'listen' or 'accept' this connection on port 1080. Then im essentially browsing the internet through my SSH server, using it as a proxy. I have this working on my windows xp desktop machine.
So you think i need to modify the phones connections settings to get my browser accepting a socks v4 connection on port 1080?
Ive tried this before with no success. Under 'network management'
the default way my device connects to the internet is 'telstra internet', and the default way for a program to connect to a private network is 'my work network'.
default settings for 'telstra internet':
modem: Cellular line (GPRS)
access point name: Telstra.wap
Proxy settings for 'telstra internet'
2 boxes ticked, 'this network connects to the internet' and ' this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet'
Advanced Settings for proxy

Ive also experimented around with a 'socksify' program known as proxycap.
2 possible solutions:
1. I configure the browser to listen for a socks connection on port 1080 (this works on firefox for windows xp)
or
2. Use proxycap to 'socksify' a mobile browser
