smartskey doesn't seem to be reading my ini. I'm editing the file in notepad, saving as unicide, and transferring back to my device using activesync. am I missing something?
thanks in advance..

Per the .ini-

; set RSKEY to 1 if you want to override Right Soft Key (DEFAULT 1)
RSKEY=1
; set VOLKEY to 1 if you want to override Volume Key (DEFAULT 1)
VOLKEY=1

VOLUMEONPHONE=1
; set OMAPCLOCK to the clock if you want to use omapclock and automatically
; set the clock speed after wakeup, you should put OmapClock.exe in the same

;OMAPCLOCK=264

; maximum can set 16 apps
[EXCEPTIONLIST]
APP00=Text Messages
APP01=Outlook E-mail
APP02=Hotmail
APP04=MMS
APP05=Contacts
APP06=Calendar
It's confusing, at the top is says change closeapp to 1 if you want to close app and at the bottom it says if you set closeapp to 1, the program will hide...???
Also it says if you set OMAPCLOCK to a number and have it in the same folder as OMAPCLOCK.EXE then it should start it on a wakeup. It doesn't...
Don't know about the overclocking parameters, but the .ini content is quite logically:
with closeapp=1 you tell it to close any application by default. To *exclude* applications from that behaviour (like phone for example), you have to list it under the exceptionlist. So those Applications won't be closed, but hidden.
For Omapclock to load on startup you have to remove the ";" before the line OMAPCLOCK=### in the .ini file. Instead of the ### you enter the number of mhz you want. By default it's 264 i believe but i set it to 240 because that is more stable.
When you don't have a ";" before the line CLOSEAPP=1, all programs wil be shut down EXECPT the programs mentioned on the bottom, which will be minimized. This list of programs on the bottom (APP00 till APP07) can be edited. You can remove programs from this list (or just put ";" in front of it) and add programs to it, you can number ahead with APP08= upto APP16=.
The question remains...
Ive got the same problem, smartskey will not read the inifile at all. None of the changes there takes effect.
there can be a problem in the way you edit and save your .ini file on your mobile. I edit and save it using Total Commander: http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.exe I have no problem whatsoever. What you could try to do is to delete all smartkey files from your mobile and redownload them to your mobile, then edit the .ini file using Total Commander.
How would we totally know if the INI file is being read? Would using the soft buttons do?
I'm having the same problem with the ini file not being read. I had this problem last week and solved it by deleting the whole SmartSKey folder including omapclock.exe and then reinstalling. It was running fine aside from not overclocking omap after wakeup, then this morning, nothing. I will reinstall it again but I'd like to know why it keeps faulting.
It's ok for me.
I've put the smartkey folder(including omapclock.exe) in device memory and copy a shortcut to the startup folder.
each time i modify the .ini file and change the omapclock param. from 180 to 240 or vice versa, after a softreset, i can check with omapclock that the freq. DO change as i needed.

I was having this same problem, and then discovered that everytime I see this problem (usually when I soft reset and find that Smartskey has not automatically started as it should according to the settings in the .ini file). When I go to check the .ini file, it find that the file is empty. Is there a solution or reason for this strange behavior?
Below is the direct quotation form the ini file (first line):
; INI FILE MUST BE SAVED IN UNICODE, PLEASE USE NOTEPAD TO EDIT IT
May is help.
Hi,
I've been having a similar prob and found that Smartskey was happy when I put it in its own folder (just the exe and ini).

Hi there to all i have by mistake deleted the file association for tsk file in total commander and now whenever i try to open any tsk file it says there is no associated application with this and i have checked in total commander options for setting it back is asking for four things namely icon file index number parameter and command .
Can anybody help me by providing these settings from their I -Mate Jasjar
anykind of help will be appreciated Thanx .
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\
(Default) = tsk
EditFlags = 0x10000
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\DefaultIcon
(Default) = shellresapps.dll,-15618
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\Shell\Open\Command
(Default) = ctlpnl.exe cplmain,13

thanks for such a fast reply but i m already having all these settings in my regstry but what i want is the setting for tsk association files in total commander software which are in the properties of the file
hi there to all comeon its nearly 2 days and 39 views but no one with the settings comeon man here we all are to help each other
please help .............
You could try some software which will allow you to change file associations such as http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2430
I havent tried it, so Im not sure if it will work.
Hi there i dont want any software i just want the default settings for .tsk and dat file associations thats it
hence they can be found with the total commander software in the properties tab of these kind of files and hence i m sure that many of us would be using that software but still it has been two days and nobody is there to help me with this simple problems .
Perhaps you could tell me how to get the information and I'll see if I can pull it off my XDA-Executive for you.
G
niketkumar: I've checked my file associations in GSFinder, and they're exactly as PReDiToR has posted above.
Now you suggest that you already have those settings, so it appears that the problem may be located elsewhere. If you've definitely got exactly the settings indicated, then you may have deleted something else related.
I suggest that you investigate the problem more carefully and come back to us with more detail. The registry settings are what causes the file to be launched with the associated control panel page, ctlpnl.exe cplmain,13
Perhaps you've deleted other settings that you've not told us about?
If those settings already exist in your registry, how can we help you further? Perhaps you should try dumping your registry, backup, hardreset, dump registry, use SSnap to compare the registry dumps, and then teach us what you know. http://s-k-tools.com/ You can then revert to your backup and fix the problem yourself. However, if you want a virgin registry dump, I'm happy to send you one.
You seem to be fairly confident that we are all incompetent, unable or unwilling to help you. I would contend that that's very much untrue. However, to quote PReDiToR's sig,
Do not meddle in the affairs of geeks for they are subtle and quick to anger

V
vijay 555 u surely misunderstood me i never meant the way what you thought of it is for sure that we all are here to help each other so i m very greatful to everybody who did replied to my post and let me be frank what actually i did was that in my application total commander i selected the tsk file then properties then association option there it showed an icon with x when i clicked it , it deleted its association
Hence i checked these settings in my registry they all are there but when i m trying to open that application it says " there is no application associated with it Run the app first and then open it within the application "
and if now if you dont trust me that still i m hiding something from you then you urself can download that ghisler's total commander and try it yourself to believe me .
The other setting that is needed to make a file open is the .tsk association that points it to the settings that I gave you.
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tsk
(Default) = tskfile
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\
(Default) = tsk
EditFlags = 0x10000
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\DefaultIcon
(Default) = shellresapps.dll,-15618
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tskfile\Shell\Open\Command
(Default) = ctlpnl.exe cplmain,13
With these two pieces of code you should be able to use the ordinary Windows File Explorer to launch a .TSK file.
If that works then your problem is mostly solved. I don't suppose the file working in TC is important if you can use WinFE to install a theme?
Thanx PReditor that settings worked .
can you do me another favour , can you also tell me both the settings for .dat file extension in your registery coz i have deleted that also .
Is it possible to install more fonts on BA? How?

Yes office word shows new font but I wanted to read web based mails in that font using pocket IE. Is there a way to do that? What plugin is needed for PIE so that it can use many fonts to display text?
I say YES!
but u need to change system font to achive this
First of all i suppose you want to install Segoe UI font as your default system font.
1. Copy segoeui related ttf files from your pc to your pocket pc in /windows/fonts/ directory.
2. Open registry editor (Resco Registry or PHM registry editor or total commander what ever)
3. Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\SysFnt\ and here edit the value in Nm DWORD to Segoe UI (it might be Nina (in case of WM2002, 2003) or Tahoma (in case of WM2003SE, WM5/6/6.1). just dont care about any thing wrong )
Copy this Nm DWORD Value to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\POPFnt\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\BARFnt\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\OOM\OOMFnt\
Overwrite if prompted
Now close registry editor. Stop all running programs from your task manager or from Memory control. Reboot your device. and then tell me if u get it working
thats it........
You r welcome in my inbox for help
Hmmm..That's interesting
Thanks dark_prince ;
I hope that way works good;

=
you mean to edit the value in Nm DWORD to Segoe UI (the same as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\SysFnt\ ) ?
Another thing, in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ there isn't System\OOM\OOMFnt\ .. but only System\OOM .
Best regards,

well just find the OOMFnt key in HKLM. that wud be fine. Remember to put your font name as correct and Case sensitive
any more thing u all want ????
just ask. I am lurkin around to share what i know

This does not solve my problem. I wan to keep "Tahoma" as my default font but I want my IE to read Tahoma and one more font which appears on my web mails. How can I do that?
just change the DWORD Nm Values to Tahoma and all would be fine
IMHO, WM2k3SE, 5, 6, 6.1 by default come with Tahoma
registry settings is for Default Windows Mobile Font. Rest fonts must be just put in to \Windows\Fonts\ Directory. Internet Explorer will pick them automatically if th website requires
use this application to change ur system font easily. this application will do the necessary changes in registry automatically.

1. I added Hindi fonts (mangal) to FONTS directory in window. still IE could not recognize those fonts.
2. I changed the system fonts as suggested above, then every character on phone became square square unreadble, except when I opened, I noticed that all message in english became unreadable whereas hindi fonts were readable.
This is not what we desire, I wanted system to remain same, using Tahoma fonts but IE to recognize Hindi fonts in addition to Tahoma fonts cause my web google mails contain english as well hindi messages.
Any help would be appreciated.

how to change font to default font,help me please.
This ist probably a stupid question, but I just couldn't find a solution.
How do I change an already existing Quickling on the homescreen? The same question is also valid for the contacts screen.
Once I have defined a Quicklink on the Homescreen there doesn't seem to be a method to change it to something else, I couldn't find it anywhere in the settings. And touch-and-hold doesn't do anything eighter.
So if anyone knows the solution please post it here.
Thanks

Remove quick links
Try "Menu" (lower right corner) -> Remove quick links ->tap on the one you want to remove -> Done -> you're done
found solution (sorry)
Okay that works.
Thank for your help.
I'm also having Quicklinks problems.
I can delete/change the ones that point to programs but the last row of my Quicklinks point to my top websites (ie; Bookmarks/Favourites) and if I use the normal method to delete them it doesn't work! Has anyone else found this, or a solution?
What might be the issue is that I've installed a cab to increase the number of Quicklinks from 9 (3x3) to 16 (4x4). Could that be causing this, as in a stock HD2 that last row wouldn't even be there...?
Many thanks!
You may certainly use a *.cab which has modified the number of quicklinks on home tab, and which doesn't work properly, isn't ?
You can :
- uninstall this cab
- sof reset
- delete quick links
- install back the cab
- soft reset
Then it's ok.
I realise that this is an old thread but I am a new owner of an HD2 and still finding my way. I have done a search and this is the closest thread to my issue.
Just like ugotamesij I have 16 quick links on my home page. My probem is that I cannot remove an unwanted quick link by using the menu button option to get rid of it. The link that I am trying to remove is to the Excel Mobile program.
I would like to remove the .cab file that gave me the 16 links and then re-install it but I do not know how to remove the .cab file from the SD card.
I have located the particular file using the file explorer and deleted it from the list on my SD card but the 16 quick links still appear on my phone after a soft reset.
Can someone assist please?

you can use the registry editor to remove the links -
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home
There are keys marked with 0..9 (or 0..n)
each item is a shortcut on the home page.
there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
and set all the other tring values to empty.
If you only want to re-order the links -
you can use the app in the following link

Som30ne, thank you for the reply and link.
I am sorry to reveal my ignorance but I do not know what your instructions mean. I have never had a windows mobile phone before and have never attempted any tweaks.
This registry editor business sounds very interesting but sadly, it's like a foreign language to me.
If you have the time can you break it right down for me or point me to a "how to..." guide?

To edit the registry I use TotalCommanderCE,
it's free, just google it.
After you install it, run it, and click on the [\] button (top right of the screen)
double click "Plugins"
double click "Registry"
and then go to the path specified (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\. . . .)
go to each of the number folders and double click the values to edit them.
After editing - exit the TotalCommander,
and hold the power button, and select "power off", than turn the device back on,
so the new values would be loaded on bootup.
I hope it's clear enough.
Enjoy.
(BTW: if you are not sure - write down any o the value you changed,
just in case you need to restore the values to what they were before)
I feel as though I'm on the right path but require a little more help.
After a little further research I installed PHM RegEdit and using the directions provided by Som30ne have found the entry in the registry that relates to the offending quick link (Excel Mobile). It is next to a folder with the number 9.
The path is HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\9
What do I do to simply remove Excel Mobile as a quick link?

there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
Then click save Then reboot
I don't have a value named, IsExist". I can see;
IsNeedRefresh
IsReadOnly
IsSet
IsSet is the only one of these that has a value other than 0 (the value is 1).
Any ideas?
Can anyone help?

I dont understand - what do you mean it is near the 9 folder ?
There cannot/shouldnt/isnt any quick links near the folders.
The quick links are defined inside the folders.
Inside each of the folders (0 . . N) there are several entries - one of the entried is called "IsExist", and the others contain a path to a program link, and a path to the program icon.
Thanks for you patience.
I finally found the value IsExist and changed it from 1 to 0. I saved my change and then did a soft reset. Sadly, The quick link is still there and resolutely defies any attempts to remove it.
Is there something that I have missed or is there another way? If all else fails I can see only two choices;
1. Perform a hard reset and start again from scratch or,
2. Leave the quick link where it is and learn to live with it.
Any other ideas - PLEASE?
I am fairly new to this registry editing myself, but I also had this problem.
Using the good advice from this thread so far I have managed to get rid of the quick link from my 4x4 quick link grid.
I just looked at the registry values for an empty link and entered the same values for the one I wanted to remove. I then did a soft reset and it seems to have worked.
Thanks for the support speaky05 but I managed to get the required result by simply un-installing the .cab file that gave me the 4x4 grid and then re-installing it.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner.
hi guys
i have the us model, t-mobile hd2 with original rom.
could someone tell me please if it is possible to change the left softkey "phone" button to a "lock" button, same as the left softkey on the start screen?
it might be like what is done here:
74. Add All Contacts to Home Screen Left Softkey
By default the left softkey on the the Sense home tab is coded to Phone which is pointless and a waste because you can get to the same Phone page by pressing the Send hardware key. Change it to the All People page (eliminating 2 taps) by using the following reg entry:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila
HomeLSKPath = !"\Windows\manila.exe" --switchtopage Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page
HomeLSKText = Contacts
but instead of going to the contacts page it would preform lock.
does anyone know if this is possible and if so what reg. changes i would make?
thanks very much
maybe if you change the path to \Windows\DeviceLock.exe?
like this:
HomeLSKPath = !"\Windows\DeviceLock.exe"
HomeLSKText = Lock
i had tried that and i got this error popup:
"The file 'DeviceLock' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its complenents cannot be found. You might need to reinstall
or restore this file."
thanks
does the file DeviceLock.exe exist in your windows folder? maybe it has a different name. alternatively, try this:
Code:
HomeLSKPath = !"\Windows\Lock.lnk"
edit: just tried it myself, it works
DeviceLock.exe seems to be a ROM file (on my device it is), so this could cause that problem.
if that does not work, install BSBTweaks, in the "General" section activate "policies: allow unsigned apps". (<-- should not be necessary, as i am sure that all executables by microsoft are digitally signed )
thanks much for the ideas wergor
i do have the devicelock.exe, its lockdevice.exe on this phone.
i tried all combinations without any working. keep getting the error message.
im giving up.
thanks anyway
by the way, Graz looks fantastic.
hmmm....this shouldn't be such a problem...
1- have you tried (no ! or " " ):
Code:
HomeLSKPath =\Windows\DeviceLock.exe
HomeLSKText = Contacts
2- try this Lock.exe (extract the zip and place in the \Windows folder) -- totally safe; took it from Johcos' endkey and use it on my phone -- with the following:
Code:
HomeLSKPath =\Windows\Lock.exe
HomeLSKText = Contacts
i have tried all, with nothing working.
i believe its time for a hard reset.
thanks for all ideas
