htcclassaction.org - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Is there any way we can get the Athena on the list of phones that suffer from lack of hardware acceleration? I have e-mailed them but they replied and said there was not enough information do add the device. If someone here that has the information needed could contact them it could be a great help to get some extra speed from this phone.
Also I have sent e-mails to htc and this is the only reply i have from them.
hank you for your inquiry about the X7500.
We here at HTC definitely understand your concern about being able to use your device to its full potential. In this case regarding the video rendering capabilities of your X7500.
HTC has received similar feedback from other users and we are currently collecting examples to assist us in developing a fix. We request that you provide us with the following information about your device so that we can further investigate it. Please include:
* Your full name:
* Mobile number:
* IMEI:
* P/N:
* S/N:
* ROM Version:
* Details of issue:
Please provide a detailed account of the issue that you have experienced, which includes:
* Program used
* File size
* File format/encoding
* Resolution
* Video scaling (50%, 100%, full screen, etc.)
* Any other details that you believe to be relevant
We apologize if this issue has caused you any consternation. Please provide us with the above information at your earliest convenience.
Now when I do reply.. my question is should i let them know im using PK3 rom or just give them the wm6 updated rom version.

As far as HTC is concered, ALL our ROMS are OEM versions. Although not relevant to the video issues we are having, HTC will decline support for any device running a hacked OS.
There are good instructions (including the answer to your question) over at www.htcclassaction.org.

Only Hacked?

Original HTC X7500 Windows Mobile 6 have problems with video and games too,
HTC universal faster (with cooked wm6 rom ) than X7500 with original Wm6 rom.
They don't want to make a fix. ( I'm sure about that )
Windows Mobile 5 runs perfect and super fast ( like a laptop )!
Have no problems with Video ( Divx and DVD ) games runs very cool
pda goes not WARM!
But other side,
Windows Mobile 6 more functional, looks better, Useful etc...

I must make a clarification here... The issue of OS was not addressed specifically on htcclassaction.org; only video playback software used was addressed. I still think it is best to reference the original ROM only, especially since the video-related issues we are all having exist in all ROMS, hacked or OEM. There is no reason to give HTC a way out when they certainly do not deserve one.

Himalaya OS/storage/software clarifications needed

Hi,
I'm sure you've all read posts like this in the past, but I hope you can indulge my questions nonetheless. And I did use the search feature but had a rather hard time pinpointing a post that addresses exactly my concerns/questions.
Anyways, I've been a PocketPC user for years now (I use an iPAQ 3900, and plan to upgrade to the XDAII) I know some advanced stuff (upgrading/tweaking OSes, etc. etc.) so the "newbie" thing is just specific to the XDAII since, it has an integrated phone, and I want to clarify some concerns . . . of it's probably differences with regular PocketPCs in the software level.
First of about the OS, regardless of whatever OS it is released with, is it a "universal" version? Or a build specially designed and pre-tweaked for O2s purposes? To clarify further:is the Windows Mobile 2003 OS installed in the Himalaya/XDAII a generic OS, and are all the "special, layouts (we all know the today screen looks different from say, an HP iPaq with the same OS) specific to it merely added tweaks from a hard reset?" I ask this since I saw an article suggesting that the XDAs have other cab files that run automatically after a hard reset (which apparently may very well be the tweaks/features being discussed)
Also I'd like to know on the OS level (particularly for upgrading) what things should I acutally take into consideration? I see in the net about upgrades, and radio stacks. I checked the FAQ in the site, but only the Wallaby seems to have one listed. Can I assume that the information here is generally similar to the himalaya regarding the bootloader, OS rom, Extended rom and Radio rom?
Lastly would be software. This is connected to my first concern since I want to confirm that any software created for the particular processor/chipset should work without problems. How about software for system tweaks? (eg. registry hacks, or battery meters) Will the commercial versions work, or are there exceptions to the rule.
That's about it really. All i'm concerned about is having the latest "firmware" and whatever required OS updates/fixes. And of course being able to use my favorite software. So I guess I just want to understand how the Himalaya implements its processes in the software level) If someone can point me in the right direction (wether it be websites, sections, or other posts) regarding these issues, will be much obliged.
Cheers,
Carlo
K, after further research I think I finally got it, but can someone confirm if what I assume is right:
The XDAs have 3 aspects when it comes to "system software upgradeability"
One is the OS itself (which theoretically should work with any generic PPC OS e.g. WM2003)
Second is the provider specific tweaks/apps in the extended ROM
Third is the Radio ROM for the "phone" element of the units
However, where does the bootloader come in? I see pages here suggesting you an downgrade/upgrade the bootloader itself. Is this separate? So can I consider this as a Fourth aspect?
Lastly based on what i've read and seen here on the site, it's advisable NOT to upgrade the Radio ROM if it's already working fine. And downgrade the bootloader to a version that doesnt have that protection key.
But again all of these are for the Wallaby so I guess the search isnt over.
I also heard that the Himalaya had Bluetooth problems and that a hacked BT stack has been developed, am I correct in assuming this goes into the "extended rom" area?
Thx again

HotDesk Beta 1

*** *Update
Well,
It seems like I'm an idiot - there were a few very serious issues with Beta1.1.
I have released a new beta - with the following issues fixed:
* You can actually add a new virtual screen now! Ugh.
* Vastly improved desktop player in the designer. No more crashes
* New window to show/hide/delete virtual screens in project.
* Tooltips on toolbox now read correctly.
* Miscellaneous crash fixes.

Hi Everyone,
I've been working incredibly hard to get this out to you all: HotDesk Beta 1.
For screenshots, and a more thorough description, see the thread here
Not all the features I would have liked made it into this release - but I wanted to get this out so you can see the concepts behind what I'm doing. Some (albeit limited) documentation is installed with this release, as well as a shortcut (in the HotDesk folder in the Start Menu) to install the HotDesk player to your mobile device.
Also note - you will need the .net runtime version 2 installed to both your device, and to your PC.
You can download them here:
PC Version
Mobile Version
Please report any and all bugs, suggestions and issues to me, Alex Taylor - I'll accept them gladly.
** Please, please, please read the documentation before using the designer - I'm sure some of you will have suggestions to make it more intuitive than it is now
* Please note, this is a time limited (60 day) beta - I'm sure by then that there will be a new release. I just don't want this version floating around when there's a release available that fixes the bugs I'm sure exist here ..
* I have included a sample desktop (test7.desk), that you can transfer to your device as an example, and use in the designer to get you started.
* For some reason, WinZip doesn't like running this setup.exe out of the zip file directly - extract the two files first, in their folder - then run from there.
New screenshot
Hi All,
A new screenshot of the designer for you:
I'm an idiot
Ok,
There were several issues with the original beta. The product is now a lot more functional. Please download again, and try it out.

Documentation
Hi,
There is also documentation installed with the program itself (in the start menu folder). Any issues, post here (or email me) - and I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks for taking part!
I like it. What little I got on my 8125 seemed to run without hesitation which shocked me compared to other unmentionable apps like WAD Do you have a QVGA sample to work with? Thanks and Good work.

Glad to hear at least something works Suggestions are pouring in - and I'm coding as fast as I can. A QVGA sample is on it's way - one of the most highly requested things.
I'm also writing a TGA loader for the next beta - a lot of people seem to have TGA images from other themers, that they want to use.
Link?
Hello LordChaos,
I'd like your application, but there is a small problem: your DL link is invalid. Any alternate/updated link?
i wish you best with that.
I can confirm, DL is broken. Can you post your program again? (or anyone who has downloaded it)?

TyTN complete failure

Hi everibody and pleased to meet you all.
This is my first experience both with this forum and with such kind of brick, particularily with TyTN I bought a couple of months ago.
I am deeply disappointed about the device, because of the following troubles I met and I'm still facing:
- device misfunctioning (frequent modem failure);
- impossibility to reach several e-mail account (tiscali: for this problem both HTC and Tiscali itself discharge their liability and I was forced to change e-mail provider);
- unfeasibility to e-bank (e.g.: Poste Italiane, BNL),
- inaccessibility to some functionality of several website and many restrictions with almost all the sites I visited.
P.S.: Please be aware that device has been bought with WM5 and has been updated with WM6 (officially granted by HTC), and I met such problems with both ROMs.
I'm more and more angry with htc customer service that had never been able to meet my request of assistance related to the above mentioned problems.
Last reply I received is mentioned here:
"Dear Customer,
the Internet Explorer browser is limited to his functionality. The device already doesn't allow Popup in the first place.
Therefore certain operations you will not be able to do.
The best option for having some more flexibility when browsing, is to install a 3rd party software "Opera".
I do have to advise you that HTC doesn't support 3rd party software and therefore can't guarantee if it will improve the operations you require.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us."
Anxious for advices you will address to me, I thank you all in advance...
Gianfranco.
Welcome to XDA Developers!
You got pretty good advice already it seems with your first-ever Windows Mobile device. As such, it would seem to me that your main issues are with Windows Mobile itself, not your Hermes. PIE is a mobile browser without full IE capabilities. Several others exist for Windows Mobile including Opera that may provide you with more functionality.
Perhaps you could elaborate on "frequent modem failure"?

Sure. Very frequently, when I launch IE or read mail with MO, brick comunicates message that sounds as follows: "Answers' modem is disconnetted, device is not able to establish a connection, go to start/settings/connections to check and change connection settings".
About third parties browser/ROM, the device is now working with Opera and Schaps3.54b, but restrictions (e-bank ect.) are still ongoing. Bye.
HI!
You did not mention, what Radio you are using.
But thinking of your modem issues, changin the Radio ROM is worth a try.
1.47 for example is known as stable.
Radio ok
I got Radio 1.47.00.10 included in Schap's 3.54b.
What about restrictions in surfing and other operations.
Does anybody could help?

professional support in rom cooking wanted

Hi there!
I've a special request: my company has developed a special tracking & communication software for the HTC p3300 (in fact we assigned someone to do so).
Now we should be able to set up hundreds of devices for our clients.
This could be done by semi-automatic installing of the software.cab.
But: the goal is to have a own rom-version to flash the devices in one simple step, with the advantage of the additional option of an "all-resetting hard reset out in the wild" in the case of some inexplainable errors...
Who is interested in accepting this order?
Get in contact (see my email below)
Thanks a lot

Did not know this....
Thanks, this is a good hint. For the first step it will serve.
But I imagine, that an onw rom will improve the reliability of the devices. I can not get sure, that nobody is playing around with his device. In the case of malfunction (deleted sw packets etc), a hardreset will serve...

will we see WM7 for HTC HD soon ?

Will we see WM7 for HTC HD very soon ?
Will it work on our beloved HD ?
Not officially and to be honest, it'll be aimed at much quicker hardware than the Blackstone. That's not to say the chefs can't work miracles... but by the time the "bits" are available to cook something up, most of the people here will be onto their next handset.
You never know...
But there are several software reasons why I will not see it EVER on my HD... or any of my other phones...
As was written on one well known website:
* No system-wide file manager
* No videocalling (I don't use it so far, but...)
* Limited third-party apps availability
* No Bluetooth file transfers
* No USB mass storage mode
* No multitasking
* No copy/paste
* Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing
* No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser
* No DivX/XviD video support
* No internet tethering support
And finally, I agree about hardware requests WM7 is requiring... Too much for my taste...
The changes made to this new operating system for the mobiles (Windows Mobile 7 or WM7) are so radical and so tightly connected to the specific hardware Ithat MS required from the manufacturers) that it will be hard to port this OS to older devices with different hardware.
It is in no way like the transition from WM5 to WM6.1 or from WM6.1 to WM6.5. In those cases, the hardware was the same and the only thing changing was the OS, the software. Now, MS required specific hardware in order to have this new OS working (like the 3-button layout, specific camera attributes etc.).
I believe that it may be partly ported to older devices as well, but with severe limitations (e.g. camera not working, networking problems etc), more or less like the Android port to WM devices...
So I believe that we will not see the WM7 in our HDs... and it may be better this way.
MOD EDIT - Moved to General discussion forum
NO, never going to happen. The Blackstone can't run it. I wish it could too but all you have to do is read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649909 to find out why not..

It's not pessimism, it's a fact. Sorry.
Hi all, i'm new in blackstone section Few months just reading hole the forum, and think it's great.
About WM7 i think that Microsoft make so radical changes because of end users. It's true that till that WM OS where too difficult for end users.
Easier OS -> many stupid clients-> More money
Don't you think?

Yes, I do
................
Lolz
MS and HTC will force those who wants WM7 to purchase a new hadnset.
No commercial benefits for HTC to provide WM7 upgrade for existing WM6.1/6.5/6.5.x handsets.
.
.
Honestly I like WM6.5.x anyway so im thinking of keeping my TOUCH HD and storing up a HD2.
.
.
By the way porting WM7 to HD2 would be like porting Androids to TOUCH HD and HD2. Not everything will work. More like proving a point that these devices could run it but not to the full potential.
