I got the email from sprint regarding the evo release date and pricing. The phone will be 199.99 with 100.00 mail in rebate. The plan will be 69.99 or business plan of (starting at) 59.99 PLUS a data buy up plan for 10.00 on top of the plan. I think this is bull crap. Let me know how you feel about this $10 bucks extra for having this phone. I dont really care about 4G especially since its not available in my area

imon an unlimnited everything plan atm so 10 $ more a month is nothing for a beast of a phone
What, is an additional ten dollars a month too much for you to pay? AT&T and Verizon both charge a LOT more for their plans.
Compared to Verizon and ATT, I'd take Sprints 4G network and unlimited data use for 10 dollars more. Thanks.
$10 for a true UNLIMITED data plan?? Definately well worth it. Im on the Everything Unlimited plan, so my plan wont change with the EVO, I will still have Unlimited everything, and also a wifi hotspot. AWESOME!!!!!!!
$10 is $10 so I would rather hold on to it in my pocket.......but it looks as if I will be paying it, NP

The 10$ isn't just for 4G. It's for premium services. Ask anyone on ATT, VZW, T-Mo if they would like to pay 10 dollars extra for truly unlimited data, with no cap and see what they say.
The plan will be 69.99 """OR""" business plan of (starting at) 59.99 PLUS a data buy up plan for 10.00 on top of the plan... Keyword being OR... If you're not on a business plan don't worry about it...

Incorrect. Its 10 dollars on top of any plan for the Evo.
Of course I'm going to pay it! I'm not going to let a $10 increase stop me from getting the best handheld device available in the US.
I've been a Sprint customer for 12 years and price increases every couple of years are common. Phones get progressively more complex and data demands increase. When I went from a smart phone (Fuze) to a PDA phone (Diamond) the required plan increase was $10. That was 2 years ago so I am actually relieved that the increase for the EVO is ONLY $10.
Im trying to think of all the stuff i waste $10 on a month........p0rn, wendys, etc.....

yes but i'm not happy about it
I just made sure with my Sprint rep... ;-) Even Dan Hesse himself said no additional cost durring CTIA this year... I have talked to two different reps on this issue because customers were asking me the same thing... The 59.99 is for the Sprint Business Advantage Messaging and Data then you pay the 10 extra bringing it up to the 69.99, or... If you're already a Sprint individual consumer account on the 69.99 Everything Data Plan, the Evo is covered... They claim there is nothing in there system under the Everything Data Plan for such a feature and have not been notified of that feature even being added... They are currently on a 4 week training course gearing up for launch and nothing had been said...
I went to best buy and pre ordered one device. I was going to get two but with the extra $10q the wife will inherit my hero instead.

I think your Sprint rep is wrong.

Do price increases suck? Yes. Is Sprint still cheaper than the competition and probably raising prices because they've been bleeding money for years? Yes. You can't really compare this to, say, cable companies who just raise prices because they can (having monopolies in many areas and all). Especially considering sprint is introducing cut-rate prepaid plans (a blackberry for $35/mo with unlimited text and data?), it's hard to complain about their flagship phone/network costing a little extra. If you want cheaper options, they're out there, but you won't get an EVO on them
The ONLY problem I have with the plan is that initially it was said (in various places) that there was not going to be an extra charge. As a matter of fact, it was even said in one of the early videos of the phone...
ok aggravating that it is so difficult to navagate the sprint website.
My question is, i have 1 evo phone now on the 450 minute data plan which comes out to 79 bux a month, 69 and the 10 dollar date plan.
i am considering adding an additional line, possibly 2. one will be another evo, and not sure about the 3rd, but probably wont be an evo.
How much does your phone bills come into and on what plan for 2 or 3 phones if i may ask? i do have a 25% discount on my bill.
Thanks for any help.
Sprint has the following plans available for the EVO + additional lines:
1500 minutes, $129.99 + $10 per EVO (additional phones would cost an extra $20 per, +$10 if an EVO)
3000 minutes, $169.99 + $10 per EVO (additional phones would cost an extra $20 per, +$10 if an EVO)
Unlimited minutes, $189.98 + $10 per EVO (additional phones would cost an extra $89.99 per, +$10 if an EVO) No discounts apply to this plan
The first two, of course, are not including your discount or activation fees, so keep that in mind. Your 25% discount does not apply to the $10 EVO Premium Data package, either.
About $150ish with 1500 min fam share with only 1 evo, 2 berry's and a rumor. Of course that's with 27% discount too.

$71 total after taxes
23% fedex business discount
everything data 450
$10 evo(prem data) charge
i went from a grandfathered $50 total sprint bill to a $70 bill.. all for the evo.
would be nice if that $10 was waived some day. I expect it not to.
140 after tax
27% discount for 5 line Everything Data family plan
Airave
$10 Evo charge
trick is to talk to retentions after your two years are up
Does everyone's $10 charge show up online?
Because mine doesn't show up online and is not part of my new bill. I have a feeling that the phone exchange employee at BB 'messed' up my plan.

I have the family plan, i own an evo, my sister owns the moment plus $10 extra for insurance and my other sister owns some palm phone. We pay $170 a month.
In Idaho, the taxes and fees on 3 lines come to about $12, on top of the normal monthly plan cost. I also somehow qualified for a RI employee discount of 23%, even though I live in Idaho and have nothing to do with anything in RI, nor have I ever been to the state.
Edit: You think sprint's website is a mess, wait until you try att's! Holy ****, sprint's is like facebook, compared to att is like myspace.

I wonder how you were able to get that
Hey guys, I was just wondering how much you guys pay for the data plan? I heard T-Mobile has an unlimited Android web plan for $20, does that include the HSPA+ network? I also hear some people getting it for $10 saying it's a really crappy phone. Also will the g1 data plan work for the g2's hspa+ network?
Thanks!
As far as I know there are three available data plans.
$10 should be the regular plan for basic phones, not smart phones
$20 should be for the phones that support wifi but have a 5gb limit before throttling
$30 should be the android data plan with the hrsp+ deal and I've heard that you can hit 10gb before tombile considers throttle your speed
That's just based on what I've read on forums and junk.
Thanks for the reply, oh man $30 a month for HSPA+? Looks like I'll just stick with the $20 after a month or two. Thanks!
and if you buy a phone at full price, the cheapest data plan can be $25 (no unlimited text). the cheapest call plan is $29.99.
actually, if you make 2-year contract, the cheapest total plan will be $79.99? month-to-month is $25 cheaper a month over next 24 months. so total 2 year saving will be about $600.
it can cover the full price of phone.
in addition, you can add/drop data plan anytime and they charge daily proportion of $25. if you are usually just home/office where wifi is there on weekdays but going out of town on weekend, you can add data plan online on friday and cut on sunday.
moreover, even if you don't have a data plan, you can access to the internet for $1.99/MB for emergency.
and T-mo has no interest installment. if you buy G2 now, you pay $70+ for first payment + tax, then start paying $25 from january for 19 months.
Thanks for the reply, MassimoM2! Sadly, I can not get the contract as I might switch carriers any time. The emergency $1.99/MB is interesting, I have a g1 without a data plan, and it tells me I will need a data plan to use the internet.
My main plan is to buy it for the full retail price and see whichever is the cheapest way to get internet. Looks like I will get the 24.99 plan since I already have text, thanks!
Planning on switching to Sprint, or starting a contract?
I just switched over from my normal plan, and already saved myself $20 dollars on my monthly bill.
It's a $55 plan, with -$5 per friend/family referrell. It benefits both/all parties on the Framily/Referell ID, up to 7, making it possible to havea $25 Plan, including the Protection Plan at $8, and if you want unlimited data, an extra charge, that is still cheaper than Sprints LOWEST plan.
The CONS: If anyone doesnt pay, or cancels out, you lose that 5 $$, and it goes back up.
Check it out.

If you plan to join, use my ID, go into a Sprint Store, ask questions with my ID, and tell them you want in.

The Droid Turbo is $599 without contact
But if I get a new contract at $199 plus $100 visa card when I turn in a working smartphone
$35 activation fee but I think Costco waives that fee
Termination fee $350
Net cost $99+$350+40(pro rated at 15 days)= $489
Net savings $110 as an alternative to keep my unlimited data.
Am i missing anything else?
Yeah when u do that I believe they send u a bill for the full price of the phone or they want it back and if not it gets a bad ESN, pretty sure.
I work for Verizon...they are currently waiving Activation/Upgrade fees for anyone getting a Droid Turbo

The problem I think you are overlooking is... If you do the early termination you just closed your unlimited data line.
2 year contract = tiered data plan
I'm pretty sure the OP is suggesting they open a new account, buy the phone on contract, and then cancel and pay the ETF. They would then put the phone on their previous (not closed) unlimited data account. My only reservation would be what someone else suggested; the possibility of the phone being flagged with a bad ESN.

Exactly what I'm trying to say. Thanks for clarifying this. But isn't the ETF of $350 makes that phone yours in theory?

A few things..
You can't have more than one account at once. If you have a single line plan, you can't open another single line plan in your name.
You have to wait 15 days before you cancel. If you cancel in 14 days, you need to return the phone, so after 15 days be prepared to pay for a full month if they don't prorate.
Either way, it's a LOT of work to save a little money.
Yup I misunderstood, should have read it closer.
But yeah seems like a lot of work for minimal savings.
If you want to feel like your saving a few bucks. Just pay half the phone then bill the rest to your account.

True.. But it's the more the anger on Verizon treating their unlimited clients (long term) like this. So anyway to stick it to them is how I feel. I was planning to have my gf do two lines since I hold our current two lines. But in trying to figure out will this route work, or will they block the phone regardless of you pay for the ETF.
What phones are you going to trade in? You can't trade in a device that is currently active on someone else's (your) account so your current phones aren't an option.
Sent from my SCH-I535
ESNs do not get flagged as bad when you cancel AND pay the ETF. The phone becomes yours.
