Modify sym.txt - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I can't modify my sym.txt file as it is in ROM and read only. I just installed a WWE WM6 rom and have a UK keypad layout in my Wizard and getting the wrong symbols is annoying. Anyone got a solution?

Download and use Total Commander to modify files and the registery. Use search and "keyboard layout" for more information. Here is one link about this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317240

I found it, thanks for the help. I complately forgot about that registry setting.

Destroying the registry so a given functionality dies, is not the same as enabling/disabling. I doubt these programs have simple on/off switches in the registry, so instead I suggest you reinstall them.
Set a browser such as the Resco Explorer to show files in ROM, then locate and execute the file loadvdisk.exe in the Windows folder. This will give you access to the Extended_ROM folder, located in root. From there you can reinstall what you want. Names of the files you will need are selfexplanatory, the rest you can find a description on here on forum, by using the search function.

missing block recognizer in wizard, how can I add?

Hi, I am very sad, because of I liked block recognizer for writing text, but in my mda vario isn´t... Can you help me? plesa.. thanks
Not sure of the correct registry entries but, you can download easytweak. it allows a few times of running before buying. It has an option to disable types of inputs, maybe by disabling it and reenabling it will bring it back.
Thanks I´ll try it...

I only get the message unable to read the chosen method, when trying to activate Block Recognizer. The .cab file just activates the choice in the drop down menu.
The previous cab works fine only on MDA-Vario from Czech T-Mobile (CSY ROM), because of different name of the dll. I've attached cab that should work for WWE ROMs..
OK. I will try this one out. Thanks!
My os is in localized swedish. Can you tell me what to edit to get it to work?
It's easy. Search for a file named msim*.dll in the \Windows folder. WWE ROMS have the this file msim.dll, czech is msimcs.dll. Instal my cab and change the name of dll file in the following registry keys:
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429690-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}\InprocServer32\Default

enable letter recognizer
Hello
I'm trying to follow the instructions for enabling the letter recognizer on my Swedish Qtek 9100.
I have installed the "enableRecognizersWWE.CAB", but that only enabled the menu choise. I still can't use letter recognition.
How do I change registry settings? I can't find any regedit app?
To what name do I change the settings?
I have two files with name starting with msim:
msimsw.dll and msimsw.96.dll
Will that enable it or only adapt letter recognition for swedish characters?
Regards
H B
For registry editing you can use e.g. PHM Regitry Editor.
What you have to change is described above.
Values of the mentioned registry keys shlould be "msimsw.dll"
Thanks alot

sweet! Norwegian file is called msimno.dll
after changing the reg-settings it worked like a charm!
didn't even need to soft-reset! You guys are the best!

Worked flawlessly, for Dutch users: the file is msimnl.dll. Thanks for this great tip!

Is it possible to fix a mismatched keyboard without recookking keybddr.dll ??

Have any of you guys figured out how to fix a keyboard layout without having to recook a rom with the proper keybddr.dll file?
I have a T-mobile Wing, and we have the problem over in the herald forum where most of the best Rom's are made for the P4350 Herald... and the main problem is the keyboard layout being different.
Since that cook doesn't have an actual TMO Wing, he is building Rom's blind when he tries to port them over to the Wing from the P4350... so I dunno if there may be any other way of fixing this issue perhaps thru the registry or some alternative method.
Thanks.

It depends of what you have to change. if it is an entry in the registry, it is easy to do it manually or with a .reg file.
If you want to update a rom dll you can create a cab that will install them over the rom ones.
Merci mon pote!
So making a Cab will overwrite files that are "inaccessible". To my understanding, the keybddr.dll file is inside the Windows folder. I read some guy who deleted the keybddr.dll file for a herald in his windows folder and replaced it with the one for the Wing, and he said he Wing became completely unresponsive.
Would this problem occur if a cab file was made?
I found the file in \Windows\keybddr.dll, so could it be as simple as making a cab to delete the current one and write the new one followed by a soft reset?
Would you by any chance be able to make such a cab if I gave you the correct keybddr.dll file?
It the file is in the rom, you can not delete it, except by cooking a new rom. But I think that you can overwrite it with a cab, because I have some cab from O2 that overwrite some files of my rom.
The advantage of cab over cooking. if is easier, you can undo it, and if your system hang after installation you can do a hard reset.
I have never created a cab. I think that other people can help you better than me, or you can try by yourself. You will find tools. Probably I could help you in few months because it is something I would like to learn to do.

You dont really say what you want to change, but have you had a look at the symXXXX.txt (xxxx being four digits depending on what language you are using) file in \Windows? It contains the whole character set and configures what button corresponds to what character (each line is a button, the list of characters on each line is what you get when your press that button then symbol). It is a read only file in the rom that has to be exactly 496 bytes (at least on my Hermes) to work so my recommendation is to copy it to your computer, edit the file in notepad, then move it back to your device using Resco Explorer.
Btw, you can only change alphanumeric characters with this. If you have to move the Start Menu button you're out of luck.
The keybddr.dll file in the HERALD is different than that of the WING...
The better Rom's made that are compatible with the Wing, are actually Herald Roms, but there are some differences between the devices, and the most annoying issue is the keyboard problem... so I am trying to find a way to simply change the keybddr.dll file ... without having to actually recook the actual rom.
This is what "misha" posted in the Herald forum

I wonder if changing around the symbols that are miss mapped would fix the keyboard issue between wing and herald ROM……
One problem, I can not modify this file because under properties in (Total Commander) it stated that the file is Read Only and it is in ROM.
Any ideas how to modify this file?

Ps: i remember that someone post something to disable input keyboard for TC, maybe in Tweak and tricks thread...sorry, haven't got enough time to search.
Yes i always get this problem when i buy a new phone.
So i know how to fix it i just need the registry key to enable the input type again.
So if anyone with the 2 recognizer inputs enabled could search the registry and give me the keys?
Thanks

Can't remember where I saw it but when I disabled my keypad I changed some stuff at
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{198D503A-EFFE-4afd-BC54-EED333C80E6D}
Good luck!
Thanks
This was wrong key it is the key for the Touch-keypad.
But i finally found a cab that will fix the block and letter recognizer for both Touch and Touch Cruise, and i should probably say its for the swedish version.
If you want to use another country edit the textfiles i have attached.
You should change the name of the dll file on line 10 and 18. I guess yours will be namned with your country code instead of the sw that stands for sweden.
Think you will find the msim??.dll in you windows folder.

Downloaded your files and renamed them to *.cab but couldn't get it to work! Any idea what I've might be doing wrong?
/Göran
Yes i know whats wrong...
The problem is that its not .cab files it is registry keys.
So you should rename them to .reg and execute them.
Then you should get a question if you want to add the key to your registry.
If thats not happening thats because you need some registry editor installed on your phone.
I use resco explorer witch is good for a loot of other things to.
Good luck
/Magnus
I went to http://www.smartmobile.se/ and got the cab file from Touch. Now the recognizer works for me - quick and painless

[Solved] How can I translate Enhanced Menu SoftKeys

Dear Colleagues,
I'm trying to cook a ROM in Polish. I have handled almost all the translations, but I have a problem to find the place to translate Soft Keys when a system menu is used (see my screenshots). On the bottom there is still written "Close" and "Back" instead of Polish wordings.
These softkeys appear in many programs like File Explorer, pOutlook, Office applications, Notes, Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts and some others even though for each of these applications I have a proper *0415.mui files (found or edited myself), and all every other text in these applications (also menu items) is correctly translated.
It seems like there is some mui file, or reg entry which covers general menu appearance and texts but I cannot find it. I searched all my mui files for "Close" and "Back" strings (ASCII, Unicode and Hex) with Total Commander but without any outcome. Also searched in the registry of a cooked ROM for these strings. Also without results.
Does any of you guys have an idea where can I change these strings? Or do you have an idea how else can I search for them?
The sys build is: 21887, perhaps this is an important information.
Thanks in advance

Thank you very much!
But I have the file, it's translated and signed. It has only 3 string resources 102 (Back), 104 (Close) and 105 (Redy), but all three I do already have in my 0415 language (and of course all resources are marked as 1045). But the SoftKeys in menu still appear in English...
These two (three) Back&Close&Back are from this file, I know it, I translated it many times from chinese ROMs. Are you cooking the right file?
I hope so... In the original package there was no 0409.mui so I don't even know if the IDs have chaned. I took the 0415 mui from the stock ROM 21887 stock ROM.
And honestly I don't have influence on the package itself 'cause I work on dump not the full kitchen system.
EDIT: Ah, perhaps this helps: The menu enhancement package version is: 1_1_20191232_00 perhaps somebody of you has the correct 0409 or even chinese mui file for exactly this package?
EDIT2: I viewed the CUIHandler.dll with HexEditor. But I couldn't find there any of above mentioned strings even in English. Since there is no english nor chinese mui file for this library, I don't know where the system finds the strings afterall. Strange.
I've asked the original ROM Author - Jackos - for sending me the Menu_Enhancement packages. And here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=404044&d=1284905153
As you can see, no mui files. But somehow the system still knows what to write in English...
Do you have any more ideas how to force these three words to appear in another languages?
Sorry I'm an ass, I said correct package (Menu Enhancement), but wrong file, I ment HTCMenuEnhance.dll.<yourmui>.mui
Sorry once again
Ahoj!
OndraSter, you are not an ass You're brilliant!
I just renamed my original CUIHandler.dll.0415.mui into HTCMenuEnhance.dll.0415.mui and it worked at last!
Actually I copied the file not renamed it as TC couldn't remove file "in ROM". But the most important thing is it works!
Now I started to wonder why!
Is it possible, that when one doesn't use Menu Enhancements these 3 strings are controlled by CUIHandler, and if one uses Menu Enhancement this function is "overtaken" by HTCMenuEnhance.dll?
Dou you have somewhere in your archives a HTCMenuEnhance.dll.xxxx.mui file from any other Menu_enhancement package (any language - even chinese or Czech)? I just wan't to check if there are no other strings that should be there. And I don't know how to create a mui out of whole dll (where to look for the resource IDs).
Zatím děkuji

These menus are "enhanced" by HTC, making dll CUIHandler.dll (forced name by MS) and enabled in registry. HTC has in latest versions of Menu Enhancement renamed the dll to HTCMenuEnhancement.dll, that's the all problem here, the string table is the same, just 3 recods (Close&Back&Close I think). Same as for original (old) CUIHandler iirc.
Thanks again, I am happy now. Problem solved!
