gmail imap working? - Mogul, XV6800 General

Has anyone else noticed their gmail imap email messages populating correctly now?

Are you referring to the HTML/RTF issue with Pocket Outlook preventing message bodies from displaying properly in the Inbox?

It works with the new 3.16 gps rom... woot woot

really that is sweet! i hate how with Gmail and POP i get messages i sent in my inbox on the next send/recieve -- i just set up IMAP and it works great.

Nice! I remember being disappointed that it didn't work when I got the phone because my work doesn't use Exchange yet but at least I figured I could use IMAP on my personal account.
Just set it up and it seems to be working just fine.

Quick question about this: Is there any way to set it to mark things as 'read' once you read them on your mobile device? I'll deal with it if there isn't a way but it kinda sucks to read my messages on my phone and then have to log into gmail to re-mark everything as read.

I just did a test to make sure i was right -- once you read the messages on your phone, the next time you send/receive they will be marked as read in gmail. if yours is not doing this i don't know why. (this is using IMAP not POP)

Ahh... I didn't give it enough time. I have it set to check only every 15 minutes so it didn't get a chance to report back. Thanks.

Hmmm... Worked for me all day but now I am getting SSL and sync errors.

I have had the same problem (imap)....not receiving the body of the email. I believe it is a known issue with gmail and they are working on it. I just turned off the send and receive feature till they fix it. When I need to, I just log into gmail through IE to check my messages.

What ROM are you running. It works with the test ROM. I had some issues with syncing but I soft reset and I was OK. It was mainly giving me issues when I tried to send anything this time.

MyTouch 3G delete emails

My friend has this phone with T-Mobile. The issue that he is seeing is that he can get his emails off the server and send them to the Trash. However, when he tries to delete the messages permanently from trash they disappear from his phone for a short time and then come back. So it would appear that the messages are deleted from his phone but not the server, so when the phone syncs with the server they reappear.
I told him about this site and he has searched for this issue with no luck. I have also searched and have decided to post this for assistance.
Thanks for any help you guys can give us on this.
Edit: I should mention that this is happening with his Comcast email, gmail works fine though.

He checked this and it does say delete from server when I delete from inbox.
the strange thing is that he switched from this to Never Delete it just went back to his inbox and then he went back in and it was still on "delete from server when I delete from inbox".
He tried again and they still do not delete.
Any other ideas?
email settings
He may need to log in to his email on his computer and see if it has a setting to keep mail on the server after it has been pulled using POP3 or IMAP. I have not used comcast email but that could be an issue.
I was having the same issue on my Nexus One. But to add on to it even when I marked messages as read they kept coming back as unread and was constantly sounding the new email notificatiion. I wiped and set everything up again and continued to have the same problem.
To resolve the issue I just set up to pull from my other yahoo POP accounts in gmail. Now I don't have the read items reaccuring. But I don't have the option now to delete from the yahoo server if I delete in gmail. But I guess I can live with that.
I guess the other email client still needs some fine tunning. But of course gmail works great. Was a little disspointed about this coming from a blackberry but the other pluses really outweighs this little stint.
I sent him your suggestions. He is going to try it soon. I will let you know what happens.
Thanks for all your help.
Comcast hsa an option in their settings to keep mail on server when downloading via POP. have him uncheck that setting in his comcast webmail. This will fix the problem

Instantly like in using exchange? Then a Rom there has MS exchange would most probably help
so it cant be done without changing roms basically
You can add your hotmail and yahoo accounts to your gmail, then it will push them automatically as they arrive. I have this setup and it works fine...

I too have this and it works great. Here is how to do it.
ttp://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/03/13/how-to-send-and-receive-hotmail-from-your-gmail-account/
You can try Seven; it's still in beta.
It offers almost real time email syncing(read/unread, folders) for any number of email addresses including yahoo, hotmail.
The only problem is that the application will keep you phone 100% awake
I hope they'll fix that soon...

Email Delay

I'm having troubles with pop email accounts, I'm not being notified for new emails, they do not show up in my inbox until i manually open the email client - I have my client to auto check every 5 minutes, yet if I don't check for half a day and then login I have emails from all times of the day being loaded into my inbox.
my friend is having the issue, was wondering if anyone else was?
It's with hotmail, yahoo and ever business emails servers.
suggestions?
Thanks in advanced
nobody noticed that there email isn't polling when it should be?
If you are using an app-killer, make sure your email app isnt killed with it, since that would eliminate the option to auto-fetch emails.

Pls check these items.
Have you add to auto kill list? then remove it. along with email app.
com.andorid.provider.download
google.android.apps.uploader
data sync should be on.
try it.
Im sure yore battery life wont last 2 days. and why did you setup pop3? Go for Imap it saves resources and disk space.
Let your computer do POP3 work.
no appkiller of any kind installed
I just noticed now I havn't received emails to my phone in the last 3 days, I had to manualy open the app to fetch it, update is set to 30 min
I use moxier and it updates and polls fine,
email app doesn't.

On the first day I got the phone, before doing anything (root) to it, I also noticed that it didn't poll. Had it set for 5 minutes, background data on and it did nothing. Never polled once all day.
So rather than waste my time with something (else) from SE that didn't work I just installed K-9 Mail and never looked backed since
i have all my accounts forwarded to my gmail which i believe is push on android phones (someone correct me if im wrong), although this probably doesnt save battery life, i prefer having my email pushed

agree...just let gmail take care of it
I prefer to reply or send emails from my actual email account, I did use k9 for a while and it was working and i do like all the additional advanced features it offers. All I need is basic send/receive from a basic client and the android email app is suppose to work like that.
thanks so far guys

The regular email client is a bit lacking. Your issue isn't common though. Must be just missing something in the setting somewhere...if not you could always do the total reset on the phone i guess if you really had too.
I recently just caved in and made the full switch to Gmail for all of my accounts. Much easier to manage. It IS full push email I believe, plus imap makes things so much easier it's not even comparible.
It's too bad the gmail app on the phone won't let you send from multiple addys, but the web interface is good for sending from a diff addy in a pinch.

[Q] Email Sync Frequency Not working

Hi Guys,
Wondering if there's anyone who can help me with an issue I'm having.
I've set my corporate email up (NOT Gmail) and set it to sync every hour, however this setting doesn't seem to get applied and I'm receiving notifications as soon as emails arrive in my inbox i.e. push notifications.
Anyone else having this issue? Or know how to stop this from happening?
Cheers,
B

Having the same issue and I've posted this very same question a good while back too.
The only "valid" response that I got was install a mail app on your phone...
I haven't done that and I'm just living with the push as it is :/
Due to Franco's Kernel my battery lasts more than a day so I'm happy enough (meaning I don't mind the extra battery drain from this)
But I'd still like it if it were once per (half) hour

Thanks mate! I guess most people either want push notifications, or they're using another app for non-gmail email...
No problem.
Still doesn't fix the issue at hand though!
So if anyone has any advice how to fix this, feel free!!
I have noticed this too with my work e-mail account which connects to a corporate Exchange server using ActiveSync. I noticed that when setting the e-mail to anything other than push nothing changed apart from the battery usage for the exchange service on the phone, which surprisingly seemed to go up.
Is everyone who is having this issue using Exchange e-mail accounts?

I'm only syncing my hotmail email account and that gives problems for me. Not sure about the google one as I don't really use it.
Anyone got any solution besides an app?!

How have you configured Hotmail? Has it been set up as an Active sync (corporate) account (will have options for calendar and contacts syncing) or a POP3 account?
Using POP3 will probably let you choose a checking frequency, but you lose the option to delete messages from the server etc.

So all these topics including in the ask anything topic and no one even bothered to mention this? :/
It's written nowhere that this is the solution. And damn it's very easy too
So basically if you use google for calendar / contacts its the following:
* Ability to delete mails from server -> connect as Corporate
* sync frequency -> connect as Mail

This is my first android phone so the difference was unknown to me sadly.
Thanks!

[Q] Email notification does not always work after KitKat upgrade

Hi guys,
i've updated to KitKat from 4.3 on my Nexus and now i am not receiving new email sound notifications unless i open the app and mark all messages as read. This is my work account (exchange) and the issue is really annoying because my daily email flow is about 100 messages. Most require my attention right away and i have to turn the phone on and off every few minutes to see if new message is there.
i've tried re-adding the account, changed notification sound, updated to 4.4.1 and then to 4.4.2 but the issue is still there.
any suggestions?
device is complete stock.

I'm having the same issue here. Did not notice the issue on 4.4 or 4.4.1 but as soon as I updated to stock 4.4.2 the issue showed up. Sometimes the unread email will be there if I open the app but no notification sound or icon. I'm also getting delayed push emails randomly. It seems to work fine for an hour or two then no emails will show up unless I manually pull and I'll get a flood and e-mails will come in normally for a while.

i am still getting emails pushed, but no notification sounds...
any ideas how to fix this???
I tried wiping my device and flashing the factory image, issues remain.
Something I have noticed is that the second I open the Email application, the messages show up in the list .. of course no notifications.. Another behavior is that when the sync is configured with "Push" it is supposed to be realtime, and before KitKat, it was that way.. I'd get an alert on my phone the next second I received an email.. However, that also seems to be screwed up as well. I was hoping this 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 would resolve the issue but it didn't.
So I contacted google about this yesterday and the first few emails went nowhere. Then they transferred me to a 'specialist', here is their response:
Hello Brian,
Thank you for your response. Not being able to sync your emails through exchange is frustrating. I would be more than happy to assist you in syncing with the Exchange server. Unfortunately, at this time in order to sync with the Exchange server you need to access a third party app through 'Google Play'. In the future there may be updates to the Android OS that may allow for syncing with the Exchange server. Currently, Kitkat is unable to facilitate syncing with the Exchange server.
If you have any further questions, concerns or downloading a third party app does not resolve the issue please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at support.google.com.
Best Regards,
Valerie

WOW!
Will they pay for that third party application for us???
I remember how everybody was bashing Apple when their update broke exchange sync. But they fixed it quite fast.
Never thought i will see that approach from Google...

Same here.. I really need a fix for this, I keep missing important messages
I think Google tweaked the email client to turn off notifications unless you open the app. If you get the first email, it will make a sound. If you don't open the app and check it, it will stop notifying you of further emails. I'm really not sure what the solution will be to this issue..
This is on my Nexus 5, but I have the same email client that the N4 does.

That's a Gmail setting, we're referring to the native email app that handles Exchange accounts
For me not
It always works for me
try using the application of your email provider(f.e. if you have a microsoft account use outlook.com app). that is what i do and i don't have any problem anymore. if you like to have all your different accounts in one application i would suggest to find another application. droid mail and k9 mail are quite good as far as i know

I use it for my Exchange account for work email, there's no other email provider client. I'll see if I can get droid mail or K9, but they're relatively expensive options for just this 1 issue.
