Is there any way to stream phone calls using the wireless stereo profile? Whenever a call comes in I have to used the speaker on the handset instead of just using the actual bluetooth speakers that I have music streaming to. So what I would like to do is have is have audio from my phone call stream to the speakers will using the speaker phone. Possible??

No I have a insignia bluetooth adapter for ipod dock. I have my ipod hooked up in my car and it streams audio from my phone but when a call comes in it switches back to the phone's speaker. I want it to continue stream all audio even if it has to mute the music to let the audio for the call come through. I want to here the person calling me streaming through my car speakers.

probably because the BT adapter doesn't have the "Handsfree" profile, it most likely only has "Wireless Stereo" profile. On your phone, go into settings > connections > bluetooth and find the device on the lilst, click-n-hold the device name to bring up the menu, select edit. What profiles are listed?

there's you problem...
BT has several profiles, Handsfree, Wireless Stereo, PAN, File Sharing, etc...
Each device must be able to handle the different types of profiles to do the specific task. The problem is, the manufactuirer of the device only puts in the profiles that are needed for that type of device. So in your case, it was never designed to be used in that manner, hence they never bulit in the "Handsfree" profile.
My S9 Bluetooth stereo headset was designed to be able to produce stereo audio AND be able to recieve calls, therefore it has both "Wireless Stereo" and "Handsfree" profiles.
The Insignia NS-BTHDP stereo bluetooth headset has music and phone calls in stereo and its cheaper than the s9.

I read both threads and the wiki....got nothing from it. Am I missing something? The only thing that shows up in my bluetooth menu is the wireless stereo profile. I'm trying to get both music and phone calls to stream while using the microphone on the phone. If I'm mising some please let me know

I've a Motorola Q and a "Stereo Headset" device that allows me to listen to media audio, dialing and tones on my car stereo. However, I cannot get the audio of a phone call to go through this device.
I also would like to choose what microphone and what speaker is being used when on a call, especially for the hour-long teleconferences I participate in at least twice a week during rush hour traffic.

I'm somewhat puzzled about the terms Headset and Hands-free.
There is an option to set my BT headset as hands-free, but I have no idea what that does.
My BT headset (airoblue) is supposed to have an mp3 interface, but when I play an mp3, the sound comes out of the speaker.
I would like to hear all sound to go through my BT headset.
So there are 2 questions in the latter:
1. What is the difference between Headset and Handsfree?
2. Is it possible to have all sound go through my BT headset?

I can answer the first one.
Headset is pretty straightfoward...plug in your headset, use your bluetooth, etc
Handsfree is kind of like speakerphone I guess. No headset or accessories required, the sound is played thru the phone's main speaker instead of the earpiece, so that you can sit the phone on the desk in front of you and hold a conversation. (I haven't used this feature on my mini yet tho, so no idea how well it works and I *think* you activate this mode by holding down the green answer button onc the call has been answered).
I think you misunderstood the question bleepy. The latest Radio Stack of the Magician seems to implement the Handsfree Profile for bluetooth in addition to the Headset profile. The difference between these two is, that Handsfree has some additional capabilities compared to Headset. I think it allows voice dialing as well as initiating calls by the headset (therefore: Handsfree!). It is not meant for audio transmission and i doubt that the WaveOut of the Magician is linked to the bluetooth profile. That's what the A2DP profile is there for. This is not included in the Microsoft stack and i think currently also not available from third party developers. So I think you should forget about the audio streaming over the headset, also because the audio quality should be really bad since the handsfree profile wasn't developed for music streaming.

How do you guys listen to your voice navigation software? I have the supertooth II BT handsfree set, and make and receive my phone calls through it. Now when I go into my nav software, the audio goes throught the loudspeaker, or I have to use the cable earphones (supplied with phone).
Using the earphones is a bit stupid, then I might as well not have the handsfree in the car. I would like to get all audio & sound to go to my Supertooth.
There was a site I found where a guy posted software that sends all audio to a bluetooth headset. Now this was a Samsung i730 post, now I wonder if it is not written for the i730, as I tried it out, and it switches my Supertooth on, but still nou audio can be heard.

What about playing music through the blue tooth of your car stereo? Tricking the car into thinking its actually engaged in a call so it plays music. Might have to be something done on the phone side to transmit the music as a call and then when you receive a call the music stops and you can answer the call and when the call ends music resumes? Just a thought i dont know if it is possible at all. But you bring up a really good idea.

Thanks for the thought, but the stereo doesn't accept bluetooth streams - it simply just has the ability to act as a hands free device.
Any more thoughts anyone? (Although someone has just posted about a device that looks intriguing with AUX and power in)

Thank you too for the feedback, but I can't see a bluetooth device in your chain. Perhaps I wasn't clear in the original post, but in the end I suppose the question is can calls be handled over bluetooth when there is any audio outpu device plugged into the extUSB?

the answer is yes. that is what i do daily.
i listen to music through quality wired headphones, and when a call comes in i use my bt headset WITHOUT unplugging the headphones from extUSB.
all you need to do is answer the call using the answer button on your bt headset and not your phone.
in some phones, if you will press the send key on the phone and not the bt headset, the call will transfer to the phone instead of the bt headset.

Do you think it matters that you're using headphones rather than a headset? I'm just wondering, since you refer to headphones, if the lack of speaker in your wired device means the call will hand over to the BT device - this will allow me to work out what I need to buy.
hmm i think since your aux input wont really have a mic attached it should hand over the call to the bluetooth headset from what the other person is saying.
Hi, I don't know if this will apply to your stereo setup but I thought I would let you know my setup anyway.
I use the HTC multifunction audio cable http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=171925 which lets me charge my phone via a car charger and use the 3.5mm audio output to the stereos aux input at the same time - all of which are in center armrest compartment.
I use bluetooth connection to the factory installed bluetooth prep (BMW 3-Series). When a call comes in the TP pauses the audio and the BT phone then takes over. When the call ends the TP un-pauses the audio
I just installed a Blaupunkt MP57 on Sunday and did exactly what you're describing. Phone connected via aux playing music, answer or make calls via bluetooth on the stereo and the music pauses then restarts when the call is ended.

Both can send all outgoing audio from your WM device via BT headset channel instead of A2DP. It's not advanced audio but it will let you play audio over the headset BT channel. Sound can be tweaked using SRS WOW HD.
ExtUSB is just a port which will enable playing MP3 tracks on for example USB drive? Why not put your connection in USB mode then?
I'm not sure if this will help you, but I bought a Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit. I don't have the "phone" feature built into my car Stereo, so I used the external amplified speaker and mic for "phone" functions. The Car Kit has an Aux Out, with I feed into my car stereo. When I get into the car, the Bluetooth initiates two separate "connections". One for the "phone" and one for the "MP3 Player". You can have either one or both. The music plays through the car stereo (via the Aux Input) and phone calls play the the external Car Kit Speaker. It is like having two independent bluetooth "channels". When I have Voice Commander enabled, it communicates through the "phone" channel, i.e., the Car Kit mic and external speaker. That is also where my incoming email is announced through. My Garmin GPS "speaks" through the Aux out and the Car Stereo though. I'm not sure how these routes are selected. Personally, I would prefer that the GPS also communicated through the "phone" channel, that way if I am listening to the Radio, or Sirius, or a CD (not on AUX-IN), I would still here the GPS voice guidance. I'm not sure if that can be changed or not.

Tested it and Copilot and Music run from the Aux out. Bluetooth hand over perfectly. As an aside, I find WMP is a better MP3 player, simply because I can reduce the volume in the software, but leave Copilot to use the system volume at a slightly higher level so the voice doesn't get lost (the HTC player doesn't seem to have the same capability).
Could have bought the HTC branded device from the same place, but the main lead from the Ext USB is slightly longer and more inflexible so wouldn't easily fit under my car holder.
BTW, since I live close to the shop (plus I love instant gratification as opposed to mail order), I visited the Inkino shop in London. I must say that the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and the shop has a huge range of HTC accessories (including a branded battery and extended battery for my Universal, which I am planning to resurrect). Not sure about the prices vs ebay, but for the bricks and mortar approach in the UK, where it is difficult to find anything HTC - 1st class!

I mean if the phone detects the ear peice and plays all the calls thru the ear peice..... why cant it be hacked to also play internet music....

It depends on the activity the app code is running on the host device. All audio is able to be routed to the headphones. What kind of phone are you using?
It's not as simple as wired headphones. BT has something called profiles - each profile is for doing some particular thing - like transferring files, playing music, making calls, etc. For a particular feature to be supported, both the phone and the headset has to support that particular profile. Most android versions have support for most common profiles.
Calls are possible through profiles called HSP/HFP and stereo music is possible through profile called A2DP. Most of the mono headsets which are mainly for calling support only HSP/HFP and not A2DP - that's main reason you can't play music on most mono headsets. If you buy stereo BT headsets, they come with both HSP/HFP and A2DP - meaning they can support both calls and audio.
There are apps / hacks to stream music from an android phone to a mono headset through HSP/HFP. I've never tried any - you can look for those if you want to play music on your mono BT HSP headset.

Are you able to connect the device to a computer or tablet? I think it would depend on the drivers on the device you're connecting to. What are you trying to connect to? Does it detect your earpiece?
its a jabra bluetooth ear peice.
and theres several "mono" bluetooth apps on the market/play store.
I happened to try blue tooth mono router and it works fairly well.
seems to use aprox 3 to 5% of battery in aprox 15 to 20 mins.

I want to add a bluetooth receiver to the car for audio (belkin bluetooth caraudio connect) while still be able to use my headunit for calls.
Is this possible? Or will the phone only allow one audio device at a time?

Did you double check that audio is enabled for your car bluetooth? In the N4's settings.
And after trying, I can't get 2 BT devices to connect at the same time.

Just have to go into the bluetooth profiles for each and disable the audio you don't want (ie phone audio for headunit, and media audio for belkin) Not 100% sure it will work with your devices, but certainly can be done with some.
