when I turn on wifi in vista,I saw that vista recognize it marvell wireless sdio adapter.I wonder whether we can have driver for it in winmo.
The shift Projects is working on it AFAIK.
Haven't heard something from them for a long time but i think their next goal is to get SD card working.
well I'm not sure there still someone working on that project !!!

Well, let's put it laike that: as soon as a new device is announced / sold every single force is put to work on that new thing/gadget. You can easily see it by reading here and there in this Shift sub-forum and comparing what you see with, for instance, what you see on Blackstone sub-forum.
What happened is quite easy to understand: new game = high interest. Old game = low interest.
In the first months many people cooked new ROMs, and it was hard to keep the pace with it (you could really flash one ROM a day...). Now everything is quite "asleep", and you can see people thinking on "porting" Blackstone ROM on Shift. This means, to me, that nobody is seriously working anymore on this project. I'm not accusing anybody, and I do know that one of the developers is in big troubles because of his daughter. I'm just saying that we should keep in mind that our Shift is no longer a "high-interesting-gadget", but it became something like a "spare-time-hobby" even for the best cookers out there.
I'm just sorry that many people (and it doesn't mean you, of course) is still harshly asking for something that, I can bet on it, no one will ever do. As if this forum were some kind of "McDrive": push the button, place your order, wait for a couple of minutes, get your pizza+coke and... don't pay!
Ciao!
Hi there,
i saw the same thing, but as i am new and only got 2 devices and really love my shift, and my Diamond when i request something someone deliveres it.So i got my whole interest into the shift. As people can help here, do whings like:
Look for a device with the same Marvel chipset (dunno if its connected to MSM7200) and get a rom of that and send it to me with a pm and i'll try to port the winMo driver to one of our roms

Me too, I'm completely satisfied with my ****f and my liberated ROM (I flashed it a century ago, may be there are some more performing...). To tell the truth I would even use y shift with a "normal" WM side, but I'm sure I would miss the possibility to surf the web in few seconds (I often "need" to google here and there... even the fastest Vista configuration needs some seconds to be on).
I was just saying what anybody can argue just by going on XDA forum home-page: Blakstone: more than 200 people viewing; Shift 14 people viewing... Doesn't that mean something to you?
Well it seems that the shift project was a good opportunity for some people to get device for free and that's all .the way it works don't give me the feelings that donate in any project makes things works on!!!
I am soory for being in thatkind of mood !!!

Think twice, the shift isnt that much worth, if you really count the hours they already spend by liberating etc. and pay them like a real developer with that know-how, you would probably end with a much higher bill.
In my opinion the only problem is the communication, or just beeing honest, if it wont work or nobody continues with real effort or somebody is not coming forward with a problem, just tell it.
Ehy guys,
can u get back on topic, the shift project is discussed in another thread!
As im not part of Shift Projekt i cant say anything for them, but they did good job !
Olipro thx for HardSPL
cmonex thx for porting the GPS driver.
But they go quiet so i decided to do some "extra" work, so it was mentioned!
So get back on topic and stop flaming!
Anyone got an rom from another device wich uses the same WIFI chipset ??
I googled a bit for sd8686 and windows mobile but didn't found a thing.
http://www.pudn.com/downloads97/sourcecode/embed/detail396197.html
i cant read but seems to be interesting, if anyone can translate i would be glad.
There are 3 or 4 ppl trying to get sd8686 stack working on ARM, but under linux. that was the only link i couldnt read.
As long as we dont get a driver developer for WINCE that converts the linux stuff to wince or that link as a good source, i dont think it will be possible as i dont see another device with sd8686 and ARM processor.

ps. anyone got INFORMATIONS that are usefull wich aren't mentioned jet ??
pps. please stay ontopic
Hi !
My first htc was the cruise , then I went to Touch hd and Iphone 3g .Now I want to go back to htc but what I am reading on the forum is really scary
What happend ? is it complicated for htc to deliver a phone that works without all this bugs ? camera , sms , mail , the sound ,the keyboard !!
That is everything........and no uppdate ??? I am really embarrassed . I have been waithing such a long time for winmo phone that doesent have the limitation of the Iphone . Htc should be here talking to everyone that allready bought the phone but they don't
I am disappointed and dont want waithing another year , should I just go for it ? do you think uppdates will fix the issues ?
best regards / equalness
I think you don't need to worry about it.
No phone is perfect, it's interesting to solve all the problems of you, we can use soft or other methods
so don't hesitate now

There's nothing wrong with the HD2, it's a perfectly capable phone and leagues above previous HTC offerings as it is those phones offered by other leading phone manufacturers. It's not 100% perfect, but xda-developers is your friend.
This phone is the perfectest there is out there Sure, it has some issues, but that makes it even more desirable in my eyes since I love tuning it. Problem is, when the only place you read about the HD2 is XDA you might get the wrong impression.
You want safe and boring, but still not perfect (some say far from it even), stay with the iphone.
Lol i know im re-iterating what these guys have said but
Seriously half the fun of this phone is making it perfect for you. I haven't even added any contacts yet and ive had it for 2 days Lol.
Hi. I'm also interested in getting the HTC HD2 for my upgrade. As I understand from following this forum, there are some bugs (the one that concerns me the most is the sms-not-sent bug). I haven't ordered it yet because I'm a bit worried. Do these bugs happen to every one? Or only unlucky ones? Will they be fixed in the future firmware update from HTC? Thanks.
p.s. this will be my first smart phone so I will be a noob at flashing ROMs (or whatever it's called)
Got mine - Love It - Hate the Bugs
Got my HD2 2 days ago from Vodafone - Unbranded and what a real nice
device it is.
Playing a video on this is sweet with the screen so large, Manged to watch
2 films on it while working on pc no problem.
Very upset over the bugs, I have the Camera Red Tint and today a few txts I sent didn't arrive for ages, txt was working perfectly fine so could be
something I installed.
If you love messing around changing things around in Windows Mobile go for it. If you just want a phone for calls and txting grab an Iphone.
You can spend hours just going through settings, installing apps and games on this thing.
Sending mine back to Vodafone though as the camera issue is bad, Will wait till all the bugs have been ironed out, 1 or 2 months, may even get a better deal then.

I have had many HTC phones. I have the TP2 and also the HD2 right now. I have had the HD2 for a week and I will not go back to any other phone. This phone is great. I have not had any of the issue people have talked about, ie. calendar, pink camera or sms. There is also a ROM update already for the phone from HTC that people say fixed these bugs. My wife has an iPhone, I must say it is a nice phone and works great if all you want is a phone call and a text message. This phone blows the iPhone out of the water, the screen makes it so much easier to type with big fingers, and the processor is so much faster than iPhone. I say get it, you will be glad you did.
Well I just purchased an IPhone 3GS 32 GB here in Australia, just the other day as my HD had packed it in...., I'd been wondering exactly what was goin on with the HD2 as well as I was reading some scary posts, but since there was nothing available in Australia officially, so nothing with full warranty, I decided to go the Iphone path. A week with the Iphone and I've got to say there's alot of things that dissapoint me and and a few that impress me, having to sync with Itunes was something that **** me off straight away !!, it's limited in it's browsing of the internet, no true multi tasking !!, and the way that it's locked down by apple, and if you want to customize it you have to "jailbreak" it, which can void warranty if something goes pear shape, it's just limited in many more ways !!. However If you use WM 6.5 or evan 6.1, you have way more functionality and it's alot more like walking around with a PC in your pocket !!. Something I will say that Impresses me about the Iphone is the appstore !!, the myriad of content that's available is mind-boggling !, yeh, sure there's probably alot of it is ****, though there's still alot of great software there !!, and it's well organized to !!, If only WM, could offer something like that, and is it a fair critiscism that there is apparently no official graphics drivers available from Qualcomn, for the snapdragon ??, How are WM developers meant to develope for WM, when the processor maker can not supply relevant info to help them ....??

I think that's quite a ridiculous answer when talking about a €500+ device (let that roll in your mind a bit longer, a €500+ device).
It has quite a few quirks and flaws that weren't nulled by the latest update, i've been using mine for 3 weeks now and i am really trying hard to get used to it, but the amount of crashes each day is quite disappointing. Luckily i got it for free by winning a contest, because i'd be mad as hell if i payed the full list price for it.
On the other hand, this device still has this enormous wow-factor. A shiny and speedy all-in communications center in a stunning form factor.
Thank you for the comments ! it really help.I will wait to see how the uppdate is doing ;-) ... and yes I like twiking but to make the phone nicer not to make the simple functions work as they should .The phone should at least behave as it says in the documentation dont you think so ?

Camera - a minor problem that appears under certain scenarios and is easily amended, even without HTC's planned fix. Also THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SPANS MANY MODERN SMARTPHONES!!! iPhone, Samsung, HTC, etc. etc... most phone cameras are cheap.
Mail - I know of no problems
SMS - a problem that affected a small number of users - has since been patched.
Sound - no idea. There seem a small number of people who are unhappy for some reason. Most are very happy.
Keyboard - there seems to have been a VERY small number of faulty touch screens, for the most part though this 'problem' seems to be limited to people who heard that the iPhone had something called a 'capacitivitively screen' or something, so they wanted one. They then wet their pants when they realised the differences to a resistive screen and cried a bit. Most people are VERY happy with the screen.
If you find a forum for ANY phone without complaints both genuine and pointless whining, congratulations, you've found a heavily censored manufacturer-run forum.
If you find a phone with no bugs, especially at launch, congratulations, you must have found a very basic dumbphone - there's not a single bug-free smartphone out there.

What a laughable reply, do you work for HTC or own shares in the company? The keyboard is RUBBISH, pure and simple. It doesn't matter if you're coming from a multi-tap, QWERTY, resistive or even another capacative screen....typing on the HD2 is a truly dreadful experience. The camera I can live with, it is perfectly acceptable for a mobile phone in my opinion. The volume, distortion and cracks/pops through the earpiece and speakerphone is a DISASTER and the text problem hasn't been fixed so far as I'm aware. There is no 'patch' which perfectly addresses the text problem.
The screen? Yep, brilliant.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise that yours was the only opinion that mattered. Just because you don't have the mental or physical ability to use a keyboard, it doesn't mean that nobody else does. It is fine for me. If it was "rubbish" that would not be the case. Therefore, it is not rubbish. If there is any "rubbish" involved, I'd try looking on the other side of the glass screen.
The camera you can live with? Well whoop-de-doo. I tell you what, when I care one damn bit what some random whiner can live with, I'll drop you an SMS. And that SMS will arrive instantly since *I* do not have any such problems. Nor do I have any problems with my sound.
Perhaps you should learn that a sample size of exactly one - you - in no way scales up to the entire population (thank god!). Following the incredible debating example you have set, perhaps I should now accuse you of being a Mac shareholder?

Well how come the SMS problem thread is one of the biggest and still on the front page if there is a patch for it? Anyway, that aside, I'd pay good money to see ANYONE enter large chunks of text on the HD2 at any kind of decent speed using the on-screen keyboard....without making more errors than on any phone and any keyboard EVER made. Either you have the world's tiniest fingers, you don't text or email a lot, you will defend shoddy products to the death for some bizarre reason or you're on the HTC payroll. I've not met anyone in the flesh who can get along with the HD2 keyboard. Not one person. The only few who can seem to reside on this forum.

A lovely, juvenile reply there. Well done. *thumbs up*
I don't own any Apple products and never have. I also actually OWN the HD2 so I'm not some internet basher. I thought it sounded fab on paper and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. OK so perhaps the audio problems on my handset are a fault - although others have reported it too - but the keyboard is surely the same on ALL HD2s? Again, there are lots of people on this forum slating the keyboard. So those of you who claim to be able to type perfectly on it and are more than happy to live with a phone that is quite frankly bug-ridden to the point of being unusable by business professionals....just make me wonder, that's all. I imagine a group of tech-crazy teenagers who must have the latest thing, not people who rely on their phone to actually use as a workhorse. I need to be productive and the HD2 requires way too much additional work for me to be able to do that. I am quite happy to tinker and tweak apps and I do expect there to be bugs on a phone, just not MAJOR ones such as an unusable keyboard and deafening call volume.

Why can you HD2 fanboys not just accept that some people have issues with the phone? Unless everyone agrees the phone is 100% perfect you have a hissy fit.
Do you really think that WP7 is coming to the HD2. you would have to assign the buttons again. you would need a dedicated search button, a camera button so engadget says. my views are that WP7 aint comin.
Engadget lost its credibility a long time ago.
with long time using htc phones i think it is not coming (remember hd1)

The HD2 doesn't have the search button and no Cam button... So what!
it can run 6.5.. without those buttons.. and we all know its possible to run wp7 on it..
So the posibility is there...
only thing is that HTC and Microsoft should agree to give us an update..
@HTC come on you've charged us +550 euro for this phone and no upgrade??
so if its about $$$$, I think the upgrade to wm7 is allready integrated in the +550 price..

It may not come from HTC but it will come... The Tytn2/Kaiser's latest official release was WM6.1 and there are many many WM6.5 custom ROM's on this forum for it
For the required buttons story, remember that for WM 6.5, it was "required" to have a hardware start button, yet the omnia II lives perfectly without any...
It can happen, and i really would like it to happen, but only time will tell, and so will MIX next month, i hope...
I heard from a tweet by HTC Russia that yes, is comming to HD2
at this point who really cares . with touchXperience coming our way this will blow away the (zune HD) windows 7 phone. it was desperate move by MS , and they havent brought anything new to the mobile community , just their version of catching up with others and what has already been done ( out there )
its zune with a few new things IMO .
but again , its just my opinion and i am happy with my tricked out HD2 .
It'll happen, though maybe not officially, and that is might be a GOOD thing!
I cannot help but wonder that if there were an "official" WP7 ROM update, there'd also be a greater likelihood that HTC could do "something" to it to prevent HSPL, etc. and restrict our use of cooked ROMs. We all know that they know what is going on over here, and they are none too happy about it, but who cares?
No, I'll just wait until our wonderful resident chef's cook something up, which if history teaches us anything, is going to be a lot SOONER than HTC will deliver anything anyway. No worries. It's coming. One way, or another.
The question is whether we'll actually want it.
hmm all this crap**** about missing buttons is a whole load of BS (sorry the choice of words but i cant find any othe that fit better )
A OS can NOT Tell what the graphical picture/sign ontop of a button looks like and actually it couldnt give a **** about that pic, or have you seen an OS where a Webcam is needed so it can "see" what pic is on the button? Well i havent. . A programmed line in th code tells the OS that that button has this or that function. So could we please get past all this stupid, senseless nagging and moaning please?????
Windows 7 Mobile needs 3 Buttons, whoopie that means we have 2 free to reassign/rip out and throw away or whatever.
Anyway untill Win7Mob ever comes out to the market, then and only then will we be able to say what goes and what not.
Well, thats my 5c worth to all these win7mob threads popping out all over the place..
I really want a new phone. And hd2 seems to be a great one! I just have a few conserns.
Today I have the TyTN II. Yeah, with the non-existing video drivers. Ive been doing some research and it seems to me like the LEO have some similar problems. I dont want to fall into that trap again, spending money on a phone that doesnt work the way its supposed to.
Also, Windows Phone 7 is around the corner. Is LEO worth delaying a potential wp7 phone, or should i wait to wp7 is out?
Please someone, help me out here. I really dont know what to do.
bumping this, I really need an answer FAST!!
hey there... relax!!! hd2 is a great phone, if you like windows mobile in general... the lack of drivers won't make it slow... having said that, there are some drivers available at the moment, but the cpu is fast enough you won't notice any serious slowness even without using them... wp7 is a different scenario... more or less a different system, with only a few similarities with current windows mobile... it's your call to decide whether you want to wait for wp7, which will take about a year until we get a decent phone... and allways you can be a bit cheeky and see what others report about wp7, after they got it, and then decide if it suits you!!
take care
hello!
If you gonna wait for WM7 you'll wait for 1 year exactly. Phones with WM7 will be out in the end of the year...with about 50 apliccation and games...
I will pass on WM7 in autumn...2011...because than will be at least 5000 apps

Htc has stated this week that they would make a WP7S handset by the end of the year. You gotta consider that wp7s is a totally new and different OS (not just the ui but kernel too) and some cons about it have already began surfacing on the net (no multitasking, no copy/paste, closed system apps management ecc). There is no single and simple answer to your question. It's really up you whether to keep using a stable, open and customizable system such as win 6.5.x or jump on the wp7s bandwagon and accept therefore its limitations. One thing's for sure though: by the time Wp7s hits the market, htc will have released devices way more powerful than the HD2..
It's really hard to give an advice.
I bought the HD2, now sometimes I'm happy, sometimes I'm very disappointed.
So there is no clear Yes or No.
My first phone from HTC was the OrbitI. With this phone I was happy
from the first day I got it. Since 2 ½ years the Orbit works great without
any problem.
Now I have to spend really much time to get the HD2 working correct.
If I had known this before, I would have waited 1 year.
man this is a very important question i'm too having problems should i buy the hd2 or wait till second year i really don't know what to do
I you have time, money and patience, buy it
if your concerns are wp7s, just wait a while and see how this works out: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2381
What are the downsides? Would you buy it if you knew?
Hi,
i have kind of a luxury problem here:
I am able to choose a new phone from my provider this month (contract with T-Mobile Germany). I don´t know how it is elsewhere, but in Germany this is common. Anyway, my real question is:
Is there a successor to the extremely flexible HD2 on the horizon? For the first time in my history with mobiles i simply don´t want or need another phone at the moment.
But i don´t want to miss this opportunity if something nice will come within the next months
Thanks.

Thanks.

I think that the HD2 is probably the last of the breed to have the flexibility. If you want a new phone, either pick an Android for maximum customization, or WP7 if you need compatibility with MS Office or Exchange (although Android offers some options for both of these issues).
Mhm, You don't find devices like the HD2 every year or ten. If it were, ever year would have a famous device for such, but you don't hear of one do you? Only the HD2. Anyways, for me, the sgs 2 will suffice.
Well I certainly hope not
makes my HD2 special !
Yeah, I also agree with you all guys..
HD2 is an exceptional legendary device/smartphone that ever made by HTC
But, If you have that luxury chance, dont miss it
I wonder what do they offer you?
Cheers
No, there is nothing like HD2. And IMO there won't ever be.
im gonna give the sensation a try ,played with it yesterday and its pretty nice , locked bootloader or not i want the hardware upgrades , the hd2 was the most fun ive ever had owning a cell phone , definitely one of a kind
Much to choose from:

It´s in German, but i guess you get the point. Any current and upcoming phones.
Problem is that i cannot decide between WP7 and Android. For daily use and designwise i love WP7, but Android is much more flexible and has more apps i need (whatsapp for example).
If i cannot decide soon, my wife gets a new phone
I think the HTC Sensation is the closest we will get to a successor for the HD2. Because of a unlocked bootloader. But even, still a hard task to Sensation. LOL
HD2 is epic.

It is nice to see that over 18 months that they are still selling the HD2 - now that is staying power.
I personally don't like WP7 as it is just too restrictive (except when put on an HD2) and has the feel of an old iphone.
I am also due soon for an upgrade. I am looking at the HTC Sensation (not available yet) and Samsung Galaxy SII. Although I don't want to stop using such a well designed phone as my HD2.
is there any 'like' button?
