Iwan to switch to the T Mobile MDA VArio II, T-mbile offer no cost calls to Europe and the USA on a business 1 Tarrif. It's killer...
But
I love the Universal, though I find it BIG....would you switch??
Is the screen less good on the Tytn than the Univ.??
Yes I would.... Infact I did
Vario II is smaller n sweeter.
It fits in my pocket without weighing me down.
Keyboard although not as good as universal is great!
Screen well its small but no universal...
calls, wow I actually get to pick them up rather than waiting for the universal to realise I had pressed the green buton
GO FOR IT!!!
well.... I still have my trusty and big Dopod 900 !!!
It's one of a kind...
also got o2 trion... as regular..
My uni supposed to be my backup .. but my trion is on repair for screen alignmnet..
I prefer the clamshell design, even though it definitely is bigger. So, I prefer to wait for the second version of the Universal.
I would have shifted for its smaller size and almost the same functions as the Uni except the VGA screen. But with the current screen allignment issue would never even think of. With so many units being returned to HTC for repairs I am sure they would not be destroying / discard them. Rather most likely the faulty units will be repaired refurbished and recycled to the market as new units. I would not like to spend my hard earned cash on a refurbished repaired unit.
I think the allignment issue has destroyed an otherwise excellent phone.
Regards
I actually....
Well in my opinion, Nothings beats the Universal. Best keyboard, 3.6" VGA screen and NORMAL SD card slot. Weight and size doesnt bother me at all. Rather I think it is great coz I get stares when taking out my Universal(s). It truly is the epitome of class and technology. I have 2 Universals and 1 TyTn. TyTn definitely needs improvements in the ROM department to address bugs and issues. I love the TyTn's Bluetooth and macro lens though!!!
I changed from my old faithful universal to current tytn. The good thing abt the tytn is being light and small.. Handsome good looks too. But og course the tytn is pretty advanced in features than the universal other than VGA screen but having a VGA screen slows down the universal and hurts it badly, now the tytn performs anything in a breeze in stock settings with a number of programs installed.. No regrets at all since but miss the universal unique design..
I did the switch as well and I am not looing back. The Universal is a great device, but the lack of Quad Band GSM and Tri Band UMTS made me switch. I do miss the the Big VGA screen.
The TyTN is faster, longer battery, smaller, easy to carry, good camera, much better reception compare to the Universal, and Tri Band UMTS. Surfing the web has never been so sweet in the US with a Pocket PC.
I am sure the next version of the Unviersal will have all this plus more and I am certain most of us (including myself) will jump on the it then. I believe that might be a good 18 months away and I could not way that long.
Hi,
any1 knows how to find (eBay preferably) an Hermes 100 full housing replacement?
I've got a Vodafone V1605 and so an Hermes 200 housing but i prefer Hermes 100 one.
You can easily find the not real display units for the 8525 on ebay. The only difference between those and a real one is the lack of hardware and the missing front camera hole

I bought one of these "display" units and they are NOT the same. They are much flimsier, the back door is fused on which means you can't take it apart without breaking it, the keyboard sliding mechanism is looser and not designed for repeated use, all of the buttons are fused to the outer case and are not real buttons, etc.
Do NOT buy the 8525 dummy case as a case replacement, I guarantee you won't be happy with the result.

Thanks dude
Has anybody bought either of these? I'd be interested to know what the quality is like (I've bought a replacement for my wife's nokia N73 and it was very poor compared to the original...) Are they as good as the originals?
Also, I have a vario II which has a different button layout on the front - would the dopod example on cnn.cn still work with mine (I much prefer the button layout on that one to the vario one...)
Thoughts please everyone
Cheers,
Smiffy.

The different key layout is only in the outside but inside the PCB is the same.
I'm looking for Hermes 100 housing only for esthetical reason.
This one is for 8525/TyTN. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Holder-Moun...ryZ35193QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Just wondering if anyone has seen something like this for TyTN II/Tilt. I wonder if this will work with the Tilt. Tilt and 8525 seem almost identical (physically).
i've got both phones in front of me and if this fits the Hermes, it'll fit the Tilt.

Be careful if you go this route -- I bought one of these for my old Qtek 9100. It worked for a couple of months, then the speaker stopped working. There were loose & broken traces on the internal printed circuit board, and more than a few cold solder joints -- the worst build quality I've ever seen.
I bought a nice cradle for my Apache from Seido. It wasn't cheap by any means, but it was very well built. I'm hoping they come out with something similar for the Kaiser.
Here's the 6700 version : http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=298
If anybody comes across one for the Kaiser, please post. I also am looking for a solution.
M in total confusion which one to buy
I liked d bigger screen of htc pro 2 and 5 row keypad over 4 rows of x1...
But I really really miss the 3.5 mm jack on touch pro2
I have heard there is a-gps lag inX1 ?? is it true??
Tp2 n X1 both are sexy... Awesome mobiles but x1s made of metal which is really cool..
Hardware specs are almost same except these two differences...
Which would you ppl prefer ?????
I prefer dat dere X1

Xperia I would suggest. But once the Touch Pro 3 comes out... for sure you have to get Touch Pro 3.
To me, Touch Pro 2 is nothing more than a variation, rather than a big improvement. Then again, I have never Touched a Pro 2.
two words for Ya: form factor. my previous pda was kaiser and before that I had hermes. I always thought that they are both quite small for pda, but then I took my friends xperia into my hands. boy, now that was a difference. not to mention metal housing, I finally don't look like I am holding a huge brick by my ear while on the phone. other specs are also ok, the only thing I miss is tv out, but I can live without it.
to be completely fair, read a lot before choosing xperia. some are getting nasty cracks on plastic parts (replacable under warranty) and phone needs to be tweaked a bit to become a real rocket.

Most of the Xperia is plastic housing inside and out. The metal is mostly the battery cover and the thin area that surrounds the screen.
I'd say try both. I've got an Xperia, and I'm going to get a Pro2 and see what suits me best.
The advantages I see for the TP2 are:
- Significantly bigger screen
- Probably much better keyboard
- Tilting screen (loved it on my kaiser!)
- Quality speakerphone & conference calls could be useful sometimes
Advantages of X1:
- Smaller size & weight
- D-pad and optical joystick
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- If you don't have one yet, it's much cheaper than TP2 if bought 2nd hand (£250 ish on ebay)
I'll give the TP2 a go then sell the one I don't want to keep, but I'd recommend you try both out and see what you like, as in terms of overall capabilities they'll do almost exacrtly the same things.
which better HTC Touch Pro or HTC Touch Diamond2 ?
now i have HTC Touch Pro, can buy HTC Touch Diamond2, which better
and why?
2 is always better than 1, right?
Strictly in terms of specs, the TD2 outclasses the TP, but there is a Touch Pro 2 available, which just ever so slightly outclasses the TD2. However, it is heavier, larger, and more expensive. From there, it depends on how badly you need a 'real' keyboard.
The only advantage of the Touch Diamond 2 is the slim size (and longer WVGA screen vs. TP). I prefer the more solid feel of the Touch Pro, and after seeing the Tilt 2 (TP2) today, it's definitely a better phone than the Pure (TD2).
Interestingly, the Pure demo phone at the AT&T store had an unresponsive screen. They said it was the second one that had failed. It could have been from their security controls, since I haven't heard of the TD2 having a bad screen.
i was trying to figure that out myself. td2 or tilt2. i havent played with the tilt 2 yet. i bought the pure and love it. like everyone else says is the keyboard and the more cost worth it. to me it wasnt. i bought the fuze when it first came out. i rarely used the keyboard. so a keyboard wasnt that important to me. either way i think there both good phones and you'll be happy with either one.
The TP is not equal to D2. TP is the equal to Diamond1.
So it's D2 of course.
For me, the absence of a real keyboard was offset by the Diamond 2 being slimmer, lighter, and narrower, and therefore fits easily in your pocket with a silicone cover protecting the case.
I rarely wear a jacket to work, so I can't put it in any larger pocket, and since dropping my Himalaya about 4 years ago and smashing the screen, I've not trusted belt clips (fastening broke).
I had the original tilt, got it when it first came out. I really liked the phone. I loved the tilt up screen for video viewing. Im a pocket carrier so the only complaint I had was the size. It was a bit bulky in the front pocket. This time around I got the pure and am loving it so far as well. Definitely feels better in the pocket. Love the 5mp cam. Not sure what the tilt 2 is equipped with. Have deleted many unwanted programs to free up space and helps immensely with lag as others have complained about. Was majorly disappointed that it doesnt support all flash as I was under the impression from the pre-release descriptions. So far thats my only complaint.
I used to face question as same as yours when i decided to buy a new phone to instead of my old hurricane. Between TD2 and TP, finally i choose the first one.
