What you need to do?
- First you look for the Herald thread.
- Then you start reading A LOT. (So you know what you are doing)
- If you still have a question that hasn't been asked before, you create a post in the RIGHT forum and ask your question.
I'm not trying to flame you, just to be helpfull.

How to unlock & install a new ROM (Newbie question)

Hi, this is my first post here, and im a newbie in this matters and hope you can help me. I have an Artemis and i would like to install a new ROM with WM6 (possibily the B&B v4.0) but i donst know how. The ROM in my Artemis is the Portuguese one, operator free. I have 3 top questions:
1- To install the new ROM i need to unlock my Artemis because the language is diferent, or its only necessary to do that if its blocked to an operator (carrier)?
2- How to install the ROM itself?
2- How can i make a backup of my ROM, in case of anithing goes wrong?
Thank you for your help.
First things first. In order to be successful in flashing ROMs you must do a lot a reading. The links below my signature are a good start. Read about the Artemis first, read a lot. Read the WIKI. Search the threads....The answers to all of your questions have already been answered somewhere here in this forum.

Help me choosing the roms proz

Hi proz, i'm a total nub with upgrading and stuff, so I'd like to ask you for some help choosing the right ROM.
I've got a ARTEMENIS with ROM 1.14.404.1 NLD. Which ROM would be good for me to update to WM6? How's the vanilla ROM like, the TOUCH ROM like and what others can I choose from? Are they all WM6 or do I have to update to WM6 first and how do I do that? I've installed USPL on it already, at least I think have. What are the pro's and con's for every ROM? What data will I lose and most important, what should I do if I want to flash the ROM?
Thanks in advance!!

I recommend you to read this forum on how to upgrade ROM on Artemis before trying it yourself.
Cause if you are not prof on this you might end up with your mobile damaged.
I know, I tried, but I dun understand

Try getting hold of the WM6 ROM from whoever your phone is branded as, eg if it's a Dopod, get the Dopod ROM, if it's O2 get the O2 rom, if it's T-Mobile, get a T-Mobile ROM - that way, you don't have to worry about the USPL first time round, or at least if you make a mess, you have something to revert back to easily.
All the USPL does is 'temporarily' unlock your device, so download the uspl and run that - if it works without problems, the ROM update works exactly the same way, just takes about 10 mins longer. If you run a ROM update, you lose ALL settings - it's like reinstalling windows on a PC - so if you haven't got your contacts synced up you'll lose them, and all applications yuo have insatlled, and any files stred in the ROM. Everything on your SD card will be OK, but you'll have to reinstall the applications.
Go to the WM6 forum and read the stickies at the top.

Original WM 6.1 for Blackstone and rolling back to it.

Hi everyone
I am new to this forum so bear with me.
I have a Blackstone NL version with 1.56 firmware from stock. Just got it 2 weeks ago. I would like to test miri's new WM6.5 v15 on it. My question would be:
If i do that, (and dont like it) can i go back to what i have now?
If so, can I make a complete backup of my blackstone, and i dont mean a sync of the contacts but a real OS image of some sort.
Is it possible to find original HTC OS images of different languages.( i have dutch on mine and would like to have one in English. If yes, Where?
For my questions, please be specific and clear coz i am a Noob.
Thanks in advance

As I read it, he's asking two questions, one is where to find the ROM - which you answer - and the other (which I'd like answered too) is what problems might there be in rolling back to the stock ROM; my reading of the Wiki simply doesn't answer that part unless I'm missing something (or searching for the wrong thing?). So a pointer to a previous article (which might help us) would be useful, if someone knows where one is....
The ROOM is the Bibble of changing ROM: in this forum you'll find all if you search...
But you want the fish not learn fishing...
1) Wiki for ROM
2) No problem to return back...
D'rath
why didnt you just say that in the first place then, my god, geeks
but roll back imply that the org rom is still inside the device
and thats not the case to go back you just have to flash your
device with the same version it came with like you would flash
it with any other rom

How to change HTC HD2 Taiwanese Chinese language to English version?

Please help, Anybody know to re flash ROM from Taiwanese Chinese version to English version?
Will this process damage the phone? I heard the hardware is different for Taiwanese version (from the customer service in Taiwan)
I called HTC customer service they wont help me!!, I bought wrong I thought is easy to change language. I wish I knew
Thanks for your help
uhm, by reading the Tutorials in this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Don't worry. Also I bought my HD2 from Taiwan. Official Rom was Taiwanese. Now, I use Customized rom which is English
Firstly you need to install HSPL, and then you can install any of customized rom. It's very easy. You can use an English rom in few minutes. I use XannyTech Pandora 1.6 and I'm very happy with this rom. You should use too.

before you install hspl to your hd2, you must back-up your Official Stock rom, so that you will have no worries uninstalling your hspl by flashing to sd card....
Hi volkansa, Thanks for help to answer my question.
Dio you mind to give me the link and instruction to do this HSPL and how to back up the original ROM just incase I got in trouble. Im very rookie on this
Thanks
Actually, I don't know any backup tool for full rom. But you don'y need to backup current rom. If you install HSPL, you can use any customized rom when you are any trouble. For example My first rom was crashed, and I downloaded another customized rom and I had easily install another customized rom with CustomRUU.exe file.
- For HSPL instruction, you should check first page of HTC Leo: HD2 > HD2 ROM Development section. You will see "[HSPL] How to Flash Everything " on that section. Then click it the link.
- and find the link of HSPL.zip then download and install it from your computer while your phone connected to your pc with ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center which are depends your Windows Operation System. If you use XP you should use ActiveSync; if you use Vista or Windows 7 you should use Windows Mobile Device Center.
- After installation your phone will restarted and then it will be ready for new customized roms.
- Now you need to get backup of your personal datas such as Messages, Contact List, Call Logs, Speed Dial records etc. I use PimBackup utility for them you can try it, if you want. It's very easy. And also you should use Storage Device for backup. It's very important. If you use main storage, you will lost your backups after flashing new rom.
- Then pick you favorite roms and download it. Then use instruction of that customized rom. That's it. You have a new rom

English ROM to HTC VIVA

Hi my friends, My neme is Leonardo, I have a HTC viva with WM 6.1, and works fine. I'd like to upgrade the rom to english in the same version or to 6.5 english, but I've reading the forum for hours, but I got doubt because the version changes each forum I read.
My questions are:
Sould I keep the version 6.1, but just update that to English? I have an Portuguese on it. If do, where I can find the last version of it?
If you think is better change to 6.5, please link me the last version of it.
Witch risks I have to upgrade my cellphone?
On more question, Do you have an step by step to upgrade the version, and how to backup my current SO in a PENDRIVE or other divice, in order to get the original configurations back if I sell it?
Sorry for disturb yourselves, but I prefer ask before do any thing that can brake my phone forever.
Thank you very much all.
Kind rigards.

hello leonardo....welcome to this great forum.
before you can upgrade your WM6.1 to 6.5 and above, you need to HardSPL your phone in which case you lose your warranty but there is a way to overcome that. The stock SPL 1.35.xx.x is available for download. I can upload it if you require it in the future. If you restore the original SPL along with the stock ROM (which is readily available) you can always fall back to your original phone state. The guide to flashing is here

if you want to experiment and try out WM6.5, go ahead but bear in mind that the CHEFS (those experts who 'cook' custom ROMS) are yet to come up with a bugfree WM6.5 ROM.
and lastly, please don't just start a new topic for just one questions. seach in relevant forum/sub-forums/threads. I promise you that they will answer your questions and give you confidence in how to go about doing things with your WinMo.
neway...goodluck to you. and remember that the experts (not me!!!) will be always ready to answer your questions.
