Guys
I am facing a really weird problem which is becoming increasingly frustrating and driving me nuts.
I usually charge my phone overnite using the stock charger. The phone powers off after a while as per the the settings (15 mins I think) and stays like that throughout the night. But in the morning it fails to wake up totally. Nothin works. So, I am forced to soft reset it everytime this happens. This has happened quite a few times now.
Any ideas why this might be happening? This is killing me because the alarms dont sound and the phone is totally dead in the morning.
ps. I am using the stock HTC ROM (1.18, 07/22), on Cingular UMTS.
Thanks in advance.
JoKer
Dude, I'm getting the EXACT same thing!!!! I'm using using the stock TyTN ROM! I have no idea what's causing it, or even how to fix it. I thought it had something to do with software, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I need help too!!!!
) .. that's crazy .. maybe this is the next SA ... jk ..
but seriously ... maybe there are more folks with this prob ... let's see if anyone knows any more details about this or how to fix it ..
And the really strangest thing is that this doesnt happen to me in the day .. it powers off and wakes up fine .. but then it's never powered off for that long ..
Mine seems to happen when it's powered off for a given amount of time. It's insanely annoying because I have to reboot, and I hate rebooting the phone.
I've experienced a lot less of this behavior since moving to the 1.20 radio ROM...
I'm at the 1.20 radio, and I'm still having the problem.
I too am having exactly this problem. I have flashed the Cingular 1.34 ROM but it seems that the ROM doesn't matter. (I notice the bluetooth and or wifi lights are still on, the screen just doesnt come back to life).
Hi, you probably already tested this, but your device goes into standby mode with WiFi on it will become locked and unable to power on.
But it has happenned to me this sympton without WiFi connected.
Cheers
check out this search...there are a few topics on this already

Well I used to think there was some truth to the freezing being related to certain apps... and I suspected on mine it was PhoneAlarm causing problems.
Last week I hard reset and re-installed everything except PhoneAlarm but am having freezing if my TyTN is not used for some time (does not have to charge to freeze!)... And yes, I do kill ActiveSync and WiFi when I know I will not be using my phone for a while. My conclusion is that there's more to this and that maybe a newer ROM from HTC will address this - anyone know what the status is on this??
BTW, anybody else having alarms going off constantly on re-boot or MS VC reading out ca. 2 weeks of appointments on soft re-boot?
I still don't think there is a definitive answer on this. I've heard quite a few things to fix it; but I don't really have any of the software that's mentioned. Someone said it was because I had Opera installed (so I uninstalled it), then someone said it was because of the ActiveSync Advanced Network Connection option (I unchecked that), last someone said it was because of SBSH PocketWeather, and to take that off the today screen. Well I'd rather not do the latter, so I'll test these two and see how it goes.
I think it's the today plug-in issue. I hard reset and left off PW and it didn't lock-up for 2 days. But like you, I like it a lot.
So I'll deal with resetting it.
For me, it's just Pocket Plus, Resco File Explorer and WA Lite on the Today screen along with the standard stuff .. really nothin that needs to connect to the connect to the internet .. and still ..
The one that caused the TyTn not to wakeup was Wisbar Advance. Since removing it, I've not had any issues with the pda not waking up from power off.
Ok, what are you using in its place?
Well after uninstalling Opera, and unchecking the check box; I had the problem again! ( So annoying (.
Well i'll post my problem too
I have missed class twice in a week because the phone alarm never rang in the morning. The phone was frozen and i had to reset it in both cases. I always leave it charginf over night and now i'm afraid to turn it off anymore for fear of never waking me up in the morning
Adi
guys,
I am suspecting the issue is related to the today's plugin. After a few days of experiments, I believe the battery level reading utilities such as SPB pockets plus or Resco today plugin might be the one we are looking for.
Not only uncheck it, but also un-install it, hopefully, would help to solve the problem.
Mark
I have no today's plugin, just the standard stuff, en i do have the same problem
Give the Fake Server Trick a try, which worked for similar symptoms on the old Axim x51v: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
If your problems are caused by the same thing, then this is to do with Activesync launching itself automatically. This in turn causes windows mobile 5 to stop waking up from standby, requiring a soft reset. No idea why.
I did the FST straight away when I received my TyTN and I don't get any of the problems you describe at all. It's worth a go!
I've had my unlocked Cingular 8525 for about 3-4 months now, and never really had a problem with it. At first it worked great, but recently more and more when i have it open to text and then close it the screen would get garbled and messed up, easy fix of just hittin the end call button a few times and it would clear right up. Well friday my phone apparently decides it has had enough of me.. It froze up. So as a fix all on my part i just ripped the battery out and put it back in, worked fine for a few seconds then froze again. So i thought maybe it was because i had so many text on my phone (over 8000 in my inbox and around 7300 in my outbox), so i started deleting all of those. After doing all that it continued to freeze and lock up in the middle of doing things. It has been doing it since friday morning now, and i have no idea what to do to fix it. It had all the original 8525 rom and os and everything on it, i just flashed to Windows Mobile VI - Black Edition 3.0.1 a few hours ago, and it worked perfectly...for like 45 minutes. Then it went right back to freezing all the time, when it freezes it doesnt have to be in standby, i could be writing a text, or clicking through a menu, or changing a setting, ANYTHING. I love the phone but idk what made it start doing this, i didnt change a single setting and i have never uploaded any programs or anything, just the stock progs from cingular and i uploaded a few ringtones. I have read that it could be the storage card, but it seems odd that it would just start doing it after the card i have has been in for months now (Sandisk2.0G). Idk what it could be, im at a loss..
ok guess my phone is just jacked then...
My old Alpine used to freeze up with TomTom (before they patched it to 5.21) because of the SD card problem, but I don't think it's related to the problem you're having.
It sounds more to me like a hardware problem - do you get any other symptoms exhibited by the handset when you get the freezing issue, or does it just happen without any warning?
Have you tried installing something like acbTaskMan to monitor your CPU usage and maybe log to a file to see if there's any excessive CPU usage before a freeze?
got a htc phone and my phone keeps freezeing i need to take the battery out then put it bk in to get my phone it keeps happening alot. took it to a shop and they say they reflashed but it didnt work any body got any ideas thanks
First of all, while the phone is working.. BACKUP all data.
Then try this...
Hardreset (I don't see any other solution).. then RESTORE data.
If the above post doesn't work, then maybe you should have that unit replaced while it's still under warranty (I assume)...
I also experienced the same a while ago. All of a sudden, after 2 weeks of using, it hung. The only thing I did was having it a day connected to the internet and loading 150 emails into the newly created account. I experienced a slower operating system, though, and the hanging of the Jade could be linked to this full inbox.
Btw. no additional software installed or tweaks. At that time, I only had NoData installed and TomTom.
For some reason, when the backlight went off, the wake up hard button on the Jade didn't function either, so I had to take out the battery every time to make a call. Rediculous...
The solution for me was indeed to hard reset. Soft resets or configuration chagnes didn't work. After the hard reset, no problems anymore...
Hi, my hd2 started going a bit funny today, running very slow, so turned it off and on again, solved the problem for a while, but then did it again later. I thought it might be the system memory being low, but looked and it had about 40mb free. I tried turning it on and of again, this time when it started up the program that loads the 1st time you turn it on started, after getting thru that, it couldn't load up htc sence, it was running really slow and came up with system memory critically low warning, I loaded up file manager, and it was showing all the folders "my docs, program files, ect" had doubled or duplicated themselves? Maybe windows had reinstalled them? anyway turned the phone off to see if it was just a glytch, now it wont load up at all! gets to the white "htc" screen and shows the usual rom info at the bottom but goes no further? I dont know what to do
Thanks for any help
Hi. I had the same problem the other night. wasnt doing anything special on the phone. I soft reseted the phone it did exactly the same as yours. Just got stuck at the bootscreen. Had to do the old trick..............hard reset!!
Happened to me twice, and twice hard reset. It happened again this morning when I uninstalled Cookie's Home Tab 1.7 to install 1.71. After the uninstall, it didn't load Sense. It still works with all other functions, so I downloaded and installed 1.71, soft reset, and home screen is back.
Maybe worth a try...? Good luck!
Thanks guys, I ended up having to do a hard reset, stupid phone
Wouldnt be so bad but I had't backed up my contacts,
I bought an HD2 last week that is already running the updated ROM (2.13.531.1) but the phone still freezes, turns off, then turns itself back on immediately. It does this several times a day. Is anyone else having this problem with the updated version? I love the phone, but it's getting really frustrating. I check the task manager frequently and close out of all programs that I'm not using. I don't really watch videos, listen to music or run multiple apps at once, and the phone goes through this freezing process during all different types of activities; there isn't any single app/activity that seems to trigger it. Also, I initially didn't realize that I had the updated version, so I waited a few days to install new apps (until I had time to update), thinking that I would have to re-install everything, and during that time the freezing did occur just as often, so I can't attribute it any app that I have installed. Once I realized that I already had the updated version, I installed a couple new apps.
Any advice on what could be causing this and what I might be able to do to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had this problem with my HD2 also even when I had did plenty of hard resets and installed custom ROMS problem was the processor was bad so I got a replacement for my defective HD2 now the one i have now runs perfect does not freeze at all and the battery life is perfect im now running MAY 31 Energy ROM
I just did a hard reset. I am going to avoid installing any news apps for a few days to see how the phone does. I' ll post a reply in a few days to give an update. Thanks for the help.
same here.
I have been having this same problem since i have upgraded to the latest version from tmobile website. What is worse it that, i am also having problems with playing videos on youtube. The video would start to play and after few seconds it will freeze and makes a very loud and annoying sound, then shuts itself off and restart, sometimes freezing while restarting, so i had to take out the battery. Sometimes it would freeze right after it restarted. It's becoming so frustrating dealing with these everyday. 40 percent of my time using the phone is spent on restarting, taking the battery off and waiting.
someone please help. thanks!
Have you done a hard reset since installing the new ROM. It's recommended by the super intelligent people on this site. I am not there yet, but I did a few hard resets on my phone after upgrading to the new ROM and it works great.
i would either
1 go back to rom 2.10
or, more likely since its so new
2 go get a new one, see if its the same.
I received a text message from t-mobile indicating that a new update rom was available for install. After updating I noticed that the mobile phone would freeze for a split second and then instantly restart. After having the unit freeze several times throughout the day, I performed a hard restart and did not install any cabs. I noticed that it would freeze when I would go online.
Just yesterday I downgraded back to the original rom and no more problems.
After the hard reset last night, my phone froze several times in the next couple of hours. It even turned off, then back on three times when I wasn't even using it and the battery was full. I have only had the phone for five days, so decided that is wasn't worth the headache and I called T-Mobile to exchange it for a new one. Hopefully, I have better luck with the new one.
Well, I received the new one yesterday and it's doing the same thing. Not sure what to do at this point. I'm irritated that HTC and T-Mobile released this phone when it obviously wasn't ready.
HD2 Freezing issue: Try this
For everyone who's having tons of freezing issues with their HD2. I found something interesting. I got my HD 2 a couple of months ago in June. It ran for almost a month, no freezing but sadly I had to return that one because the output resolution was bad. Some kind of defect. The second one I got for a replacement didn't have much freezing issues but I did encounter a couple and then I installed BeeJive. That program freezes my HD2 sometimes. Then I discovered that my WI-FI wasn't working, no idea what happened. I tried everything thing I could but it would not work. So I did a hard reset.
After the hard reset, the HD2 freezes all the time and was soooo slooooooow. It was so bad that I could not work on it. Having experienced the HD2 before all the freezing issues, I know that it had to be something else causing the freezing. So I hard reset again and reinstalled my applications again and tested each to make sure it was working and not causing the frequent freezing and most importantly, the slooooowness.
So far so good. I still installed BeeJive because it's the best IM software I found out there that uses your data plan for IM. It still causes freezing but I know what functions will cause it so I try to avoid it. I also keep my list of installed applications down to reduce the chance that it's one of my infrequently used apps that's causing the freezing.
So if you're daring, hard reset your HD2, then install your most used applications first, test it, then installed the next frequently used application next, and so on and so on.
One more thing, I've discovered that the auto update for stocks, weather, and frequently direct pushed emails, as well as gmail/yahoo accounts will cause the HD2 to be slow. I still set my gmail to update every 10 minutes because it's my main account, but yahoo gets updated once an hour and outlook gets manually updated during work hours, since I'm at work, and gets direct push for the hours I'm awake at home. No need to push email when I'm asleep.
Another possibility for resolution - microSD card
I purchased a new microSD because I noticed that the one that came with the HD2 is a Class 2 device. I could not take videos for more than a minute and then it gets real choppy.
I bought a new Class 6 card. After getting the card, I tested it against the Class 2 card. Huge difference. It seems that SD card speed and HD2 performance are directly related. I tested the cards with the following applications: Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, BeeJive, Camera, Video Camera, and Email. On both cards, on certain programs, the card access goes down to below 1mbs. However, for the Class 6 card, it ramps up quickly. The class 2 card, being already slow, lingers. This in itself causes a huge lag and freezing. I discovered that on certain applications that froze before, it now doesn't freeze but it does take an extra 'second' to recover.
My biggest relief has been that BeeJive no longer freezes where it froze before on certain functions. I've been running for over a week now without any freezes. I'm not saying you should replace your SD card, yet. However, you can test it to see if the lag is causing the freezing.
A new 16gb card costs $75. Make sure you test it, if you decide to get one. I got 7mbs max access with mine and consistently got 6mbs, which is what it's suppose to be.
