Hello, I just got a new Bell Vogue and I'm new to the whole modding thing.
I just installed a cab to replace the battery icons and it worked.
Now I'd like to attempt the 4th side cube mod but registry editing is needed.
Where is the program to access the registry?
Is there a good noob guide/sticky/FAQ on hacking/modding my Vogue?
Thanks!
I recommend PHM Regedit. It is a great free reg editor. If you are not familiar with doing registry edits I highly recommend that you do some reading before you get started because. You can mess your device up bad if you don't know what you are doing. In all fairness in most cases a hard reset can solve all problems, but you still want to be careful.
Thanks! PHM Regedit is great. I'm extremely familiar with registry editing on my Windows XP/Vista desktop, so it shouldn't be too different on my touch!
How to remove battery icon
I have to battery icons at the top of my today screen. How do i remove one without doing a hard reset

Hello. I’m currently trying to cook my own extended rom and would like it to install some registry values from hard reset.
Is it possible to create a .cab that will insert these values??
:lol:

Use cabmaker or wincab or whatever it's called and just import your .reg directly. It'll make it into a cab. Can't remember what the program is called, but everyone uses it... will check it out later at home if you can't find it.

Cheers mate i found WinCE Cab Manager. Time To Get Cooking!
That's the one! Jeez, I think I've reached the point at which my brain can no longer be filled with new info. Seems like stuff has started flowing out of my exhaust port! The charging cable keeps falling out as well

Hiya - has anyone managed to set the owner info like this? I've tried a couple of different ways of getting it into cabs so that it will be set automatically on a hard reset but have not managed to make it work...
I can set other things, but not owner info, device name and start menu items, which is really starting to bug me! Can anyone help?
Hi Guys,
I just got my Jamin a few days ago and have hard reset it more times than I care to remember. There are a few things that irritate me that hopefully you guys can clear up for me.
Firstly, how do I switch off the recent programs section of the start menu?
Also, how do I clear recent searches and Terminal Service information?
Thanks,
DB
Ok... so this might not be the most complex of questions for you guys to answer... but someone MUST know... And the same for the dictionary... where's that located?
Both entries are in the registry. Both require you to perform a reset afterwards. You can not turn off the recently used programs list (stupid M$, I know!) but you can clear it. Attached is a CAB file that should clear the recently used list (make sure it is read only so it doesn't get deleted after you run it). It is meant for WM2003SE but I think it should work for WM5; you may just have to change the Max OS Version using WinCE CAB Manager. For the Terminal Services Client list, you will have to search the registry fo the IP/server name and then delete it manually.

Thanks Mate,
I appreciate the help
What app do I use to regedit? Obviously Start >Run - regedt32 doesn't work! haha
EDIT: Call me blind... but where's the attachment!? Haha
Yea, good point where is the attachment? This is the 2nd time this is happening to me on this forums in one day! The file upload keeps timing out, so I'm just going to tell you the Registry change you have to make and you will have to use WinCE CAB Manager to make your own cab file:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch]
"0"=""
"1"=""
"10"=""
"11"=""
"2"=""
"3"=""
"4"=""
"5"=""
"6"=""
"7"=""
"8"=""
"9"=""
Use PHM Registry Editor or trial version of Resco Explorer 2005. Both should be on Pocketgear.com or try google. Depending on your Registry editor you may have to exclude the speech marks.
Hope it helps
VJEschaton has a command line to clear the recent menu. However, the OS still requires you to soft reset. Defeats the point IMHO.

I guys,
I have this doubt floating in my mind since some time...
If I run all sktools regarding cleaning and registry optimization, such as:
-Clean!
-Optimize!
-Tune Up!
-Invalid Registry Entries
-Invalid Registry Values
-Advanced Clean
-Registry Optimizer
Can it happen that it will wrongly detect some tweaks or corrections made by the cookers as errors in the registry and then eliminate them?
For example, if a cooker changes a value in the registry key to optimize something, Sktools can "think" that it's an error, and then change the key to it's default value, eliminating the optimization done by the cooker...
Is this possible to happen? Or can I use safely the tools from SKtools?
Thankx
I would recommend against using anything like that as it is possible your remove keys that make your rom unstable. Advice is install and stay as you are!

What???
Off course errors/mistakes could happen, but I think that some registry tool is very needed, specially in Windows mobile...
I'm not sure but when this kind of tools search the registry, they only seek for errors in the connections or links.
So I don't think they will delete any tweaks done by the cooker if the tweak is working good.
I use this software to clean up,remove stuff,optimize,tweaks etc... and I have never had any issues whatsoever,if you ask me it works like a charm that´s why I bought it and my xda is really stable all the time.
These are the features I use the most.
-Clean!
-Optimize!
-Tune Up!
-Advanced Clean
-Registry Optimizer
Once I flash I use "Tune up" to change the PIE cache location,cookies,history,messaging files etc....after this "optimize" for better perfomance/stability/memory it´s up to you.Once I´ve done installing apps I use "Clean" and that´s it.
It does remove needed registry keys/values, can't give a specific example tho, you better examine the list of items to be deleted one by one before actually deleting them completely.
The only thing I use from SKTools is FreeRAM.
Sorry.
To me looks like it works well.....I´m sure it´s my lack of knowledge,but when I set it up that way with sktools and it seems to work so well,that´s why I mentioned that.
So..... I've just installed a new rom, an before installing anything else, I installed SKtools, and made a search for Invalid Registry Entries, and it found a couple of them (around 6 or 7).
Is it possible that a ROM is cooked with registry errors already inside?...Or could it be that SKtools is not that reliable...?
And, should I delete those registry strings or not?
Bye
So, no comments/thoughts about this???....
Strange....

You better not delete any registry entries untill or unless you know what it's for. Say for example, if you see that these are coming from a programme that you have uninstalled from your phone, you can close your eyes and delete those. Even that also sometime is bad because, lot of them may be shared with other system stuffs.
I have found some blank registry entries and deleted them, later when I have rebooted the trinity, I had some strange errors(I forgot). Anyway, it don't bring any gains in cleaning registries for fast booting of system, but temporary locations or IE cache to increase your available memory yes.
The basic purpose of a registry cleaning(applicable for pc also!) is that , if there is any error message after booting up your system, or some special errors coming from a particular programme after it launches(depends on the message it gives!) , in that case, it could have been good to run those kind of registry cleaner stuffs.
So you can leave them.
I agree with Provat,
I would say that you have to be aware about what you want to remove.
I use SKtoll too but now I must be careful on what I do with that because on the past I have removed lot of things and the only solution was hard reset.
Nevertheless it's a good tool and it improves a lot. Personnaly, I only use "optimize for performance" option.
Is there a Cab for this ?

Google is your friend :
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
Please, could someone tell me how can I find in SK Tools the FreeUP RAM and Optimize for Performance parts?
thanks
I used SKtools to uninstall Google Maps and didn't scroll thru the results as I usually do. It virtually left my memory card void. All I had left was a shell of a rom...none of the shortcuts worked...all my files were gone. I had to use a recovery program to get most of it back...I still ain't right. I wanted to use their cleaning tool...it came back with so many results and I thought about what happened and just canceled it. I'll stick Memmaid unless someone can tell me the proper cleaner settings for SKtools.

i have found some sounds i like now i just need to kno how to put them in the folder for sliding sounds
heres a cab that i found in a transformers sliding sound forum. just install the cab and reset. then you can just copy whatever wav file into the windows directory that you want for the sliding sounds. you just have to name them custom-in and custom-out. its real easy and you dont have to touch the registry.

Thanks for the help
you'll need a registry editor, like phm, total commander, or resco, before you can do anything at all

Hey, Do you have to use a Registry Editor in order to change the slider sound? Or is there another option? I would also like to know if anyone here could possibly walk me through the steps. Thank You
Hi,
I am starting to grips with the HD2, and windows mobile slowly but surely. I'm now ready to take the plunge with the registry editor and file editor. A lot of people recommend Resco, so I have tried to install it from here http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/downloads.asp
I install the cab on the phone and ge the resco icno in the start menu, but when I click it it says
"The file ':RRegistry cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the files."
I tried installing it again but go the same message. What am I doing wrong?
And now I have another issue. I uninstalled it and non I have duplicate HTC People, HTC Footprints, HTC Calendar, HTC Music, and HTC Twiiter icons in the start menu. HOwever, the pictures of these 'new' icons are all the same, and are just look like blue and white folders. WHere have these come from and how do I get rid of them?
Cheers
I have installed Resco File Explorer without any problems. All I can suggest is that you remove it then reset before trying to re install.
If you still have problems SKTools also has a registry editor which works well but resco is a really good file manager.
With regard to the icons on the start menu once you have registry editor up and working there is a fix for that in the sticky "hints and tips thread" at the start of the forum.
Good luck
Sorted it, was downloading for smartphone, when needed to download for pocket PC, what a numpty
Snerkler,
Be really careful when using any registry editor. The ability to screw things up is huge!
Always start by taking a backup of your registry first (think you can do this with Resco Explorer) BEFORE making any changes. May as well also backup the device in case you really screw up and need to hard reset.
I'm not trying to scare you, rather give you the benefit of some bitter experience!
WB
PS If yo install the tool BSB Tweaks which you can find here on XDA, you can use a setting that allows you to install unsigned apps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have already tweaked a couple of settings, but not backed them up :-/ Only changed this though so nothing too major:-
35. Enable Clickable Links in Zoomed Out Opera
This reg edit allows you to tap on a link without the need for zooming in first.
HKLM/Software/Opera/Info/az_overview_threshold
Change value from 64 to 32 (I've changed it to 10 though as found 32 still didn't work)
HOw do I back up registry using resco? And how do I back up the phone?
When I installed resco I got duplicate folders in my start menu for message, emails and things, but the icons were just blue and white folders, how do I get rid of these icons?
Try going to My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and looking for the duplicate entries using Resco Explorer. Delete those entries and you should be OK.
Resco Explorer has a 'Recycle Bin' facility in case you want to make sure you keep the deleted items until you are sure you don't need them.

After a soft reset, the duplicate entries come back.
