i will receive my pro (universal) today - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hiii
i will join you, universal owners after couple of hours
i dont know anything about phone, but processor seems good, so i will buy an universal after 2-3 hours.. will pay 175euro for used one.. without accessories..
before buying what should you suggest me to check? should i check if its g3 or g4? is there price difference between g3 n g3
what do you suggest me to do first?? which rom version should i install-- which is more stable. is Victors rom good?
i first need to unlock device from tmobile.. i will try with files that i downloaded from buzzdev
then i will upgrade the rom and wm6
thanks...

i have it now. ))))))) yuppiii

guys, after unlocking device my Radio version is 0.00.00
how can i upgrade the radio version? what does Radio mean? thanks all

best point to start is the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=UNI_Radio

muchos gracias..

please note that wm6 roms do not have good working video call (yet). You might wanna try wm5 roms first.
jwright's 1.90.96 is superb IMO.

thanks guys.. have a nice year 2008.................
does anyone know how to change splash screen image (t-mobile)
i searched but, that welcomehead.192.png image file under /windows belongs to rom and cant be overwritten or changed
and does anyone has any sample image file which is 640x480 pixel to make splash screen

search for total commander, it's free.

i tried with Total Commander, but i cant change its name and properties (readonly, system, hidden, on rom)

Total Commander (and also Resco Explorer) will allow you to overwrite the file without changing the target's properties. At least this is something I see everytime after loading a new ROM, when I replace the two Tahoma font files with better versions from Windows XP (that look much better with Cleartype switched on).

thanks guys.. i have some more questions..
# can i Print an image or document directly from pocket pc? printer is on network (lan)
# i coulnd run FLV files with tcmp or another (even i installed plugin from sourceforge)
# how can i set default saving folder as STORE CARD for programs like internet explorer etc..
# do you know any programs for running streaming media? (to watch tv, or listen radio)
# which program do u suggest to use pocket pc as webcam?
# i bought a bluetooth headset, i can listen music.. and i installed a program called Voice command in order to give commands from microphone to run or do a task.. but i dont know how it works.. has anyone any tips?
# which programs do you suggest me to install for more fun

i didnt like this fat phone.. i guess i will sell it.. or maybe i should flash wm5 rom instead of current wm6..

i flashed wm5 rom (vanilla tmobile)... and i am happier than before... ooh..

after 10days buying it i sold it away.........

I'm sorry, but what exactly was the point of this thread??

Thanks Talents, you've saved everyone alot of time there
Some of you may be interested in this:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Ma...500_WWE1.06.175/Orange_GPRS_Desconnect.sa.CAB
It adds a disconnect option to the GPRS popup. Only realised it was an Orange thing when i put the 1.12 rom on my M500 and saw it had gone.
some of the files you've attached say tmobile on them.. does that brand the phone? will i have t-mobile popping up on every app i open. I bought my jam from dubai and using it on cingular.. i'm also on the WWE rom, just wondering if these .cab's are compatible.
The cab files are compatible with all HTC Magician machines (i.e. i-mate JAM, O2 XDA mini, Qtek s100, T-Mobile Compact, Dopod 818, etc.) and will not pop up any brand or logo after installation.
thanks for that info, i will do these updates in about an hour. thanks again
Are these cab-files ripped of the default install on the windows-dir?
Fonix voicedial is eating a lot of memory of the ppc. The normal installation (downloadable at fonix) can install on the sd card, but the extended rom versions i have seen only install totally on phone memory

Many thanks for your efforts. Very informative.
V
Thanks for the effort mate, I shall have a play with those.
Will ask one more time: I am on holiday so my only internet-connection right now is with my Magician and GPRS. Pocket IE will not handle attachments on the forum (downloads the php-file). Could they be downloaded in any other way or could someone upload the cab-files to the ftp? Please..
EDIT: Of course I found the files on the ftp and succesfully downloaded them with resco. Sorry, should have looked better. Even so it is quite irritating that attachment downloading is not working with Pocket IE

I tried that.. but if the path is an hardcoded default in de cab, cab-installer uses that default
Also, i do not see the programs of the extended rom (when i install them myself) in my 'remove programs'-list.

In fact, downloading works in PIE. Just download the file (it'll show as download.php, correct) and then rename it to whatever it should be with the extension that it's supposed to have. Alternatively, when trying to download via PIE, in a "Download" popup dialog tap "Change" and change the name of the file to what it is supposed to be. After your download is completed, use your file explorer to locate the file and change the extension of the file from .php to a correct one.

Aha! Thnx very much for that info mata!
But how does this work?! If I want to install for instance the Camera Wizard to update my camera, where do I have to install it? I asume it has to overwrite the original camera app, or can I really put it everywhere I want? And to make it clear... does this hard reset your device?!

Reading ROM files from Windows Mobile 5.0 on ETEN M600

Does anyone know a way to get at the ROM files on a ETEN M600 device?
I've tried pget, Remote File Viewer for Windows CE (both VS 2005 versions and Visual C++ 4.0 embedded). Nothing can get to the file I want (btagext.dll, which holds the AT Command Extension Module).
The file attributes on it are: 0002047. (Read Only, In ROM, Hidden, and System).
I'm looking for a way to get at that one file because they have hard coded the AT Command Extension Module to load Cyberon Voice Commander, which is a terrible voice control application IMHO for the WM 5.0 platform. I want to hex edit that file to launch another executable but can not retrieve that file.
If anyone knows a way to dump the rom out to an SD Card or retrieve these files by some means, please post the information! It would be greatly appreciated.
I tried grab_it from the forum. It did not work at first, but then I hex edited the file to point to the correct storage card location and it appear to start working. However the dump file appears to be only the first 512kb or so, even though the file is 128mb.
Any help would be appreciated.
Did you get this sorted?
V
Yeah.. I used mamaich's tool (testwm5) to grab the files...
Cool...
V
anyway you can get the call blocker built into the eten 600 rom?
that would be cool
if you can get the speed dialer there too.. its much better than the htc one
edit: thanks to vijay555 we already have the smart dialer
not the call blocker is left only
I've got the call blocker software running (WM5 and Wm2003). It's not very nice. Sure you want it?
They've also got some profile software, but both have better freeware versions available.
However, the bluetooth manager is very nice. Will look into that. And the wireless manager is also dual compatible.

It can, just try again anad again, i did it on my 4th attemps

Thanks for the response but I haven't had any success after several tries. I tried installing the Wizard unlock cab file and afterwards with Total Commander, I can reset the Read Only bit on all the files and copy the files to my SD card. However, I am unable to delete any files. They appear to be deleted but come back after a soft reset. I would like to especially get rid of all the operator settings files. The rest of the stuff like Skype, Anti Virus and Backgammon I can get rid of using Settings>Remove Programs.
Frank
Isn't "ROM" short for "read only memory"?
hi, I am using Buzz's unlocker for Wizard... it made the ExtROM visible but still it is read only
I need to find how can I delete and add files to it.
Any challenging minds out there?
Total commander does not work with the jamin in my case anyway.
Tried several time with no results.

hi,

...well, if anyone can give me a dump of Prophet's bootloader + clean registry export, i can take a look at it..

Buzz,
Thanks for the great offer.
I can give you the clean reg but how can i get you the first part, bootloader thingie?
Regards
I have used the Wizard Extended ROM unlock program to unlock the ROM on my Prophet. I now have a copy of the Extended ROM on my SD Card. I'm not concerned about erasing the Extended ROM files, I just don't wan them installed, so I did a Hard Reset and just when it says that it will start installing the additional prorams in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset.
OK, now I have a Prophet without extended ROM. I can now install the stuff that I want.
Most of the cab files I've figured out, Does anyone know what the following extended ROM cabs do? This is from the latest Imate Jamin ROM.
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_MP_Shortcut_MMS1_JAVA_VOICE_CV_051213.CAB
Default_PP_TSK.CAB
Default_PP_UAString.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_IconDll.sa.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_Patch_SD.sa.CAB
Thanks heaps,
Matterhorn
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB is the anti-virus app which used to play havoc in slowing down the KJAM. Maybe this version is better but I uninstalled it using Remove Programs. About the rest I am not sure. At least you don't have Skype, backgammon and the Operator Settings files so I expect you will gain a fair amount.
Frank
you can use wince cab manager to see the content of the cab file.
Still nothing? Guess I will go the way of Matterhorn when I need to do a hard reset. Several others have not installed the Extended ROM at all and have reported significant speedup in the JAMin.
Frank
That would be me. I haven't installed one thing off the extended rom and my speed is really pretty good. You can see a video review at the link below to compare the m600 and the jamin (with no extended rom). Keep in mind I don't use mms, skype, antivirus anyway....so no big deal to leave off the ext rom. I also use adobe and don't need the clearview .pdf. Hope the video helps
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=849592
Thanks, Mike. I don't use the stuff either except MMS once in a while but can just as easily use email for that. I presume Voice Dial is in the Extended Rom but rather have MS VC anyway and things like Connection Manager, Messaging, etc., that I want are not in the Extended ROM so I should be fine.
Now to find time to do a hard reset and re-install my apps.
Frank
Everyone has diffrent issues, I was able to delete the files from there (verified by refreshing the dir, and I recieved no read only error) but I was unable to write files to it, which I thought was very strange, I am using APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe and it does NOT give me the success msg it acts like it hasnt even ran. I updated my ROM to teh test one that was floating auround 2.8.7 whatever, and I realized too late that aWizard has no way to reflash teh extended ROM so I am without all my Cingular apps and I have all the 2.8.7 Extended rom stuff with the 1.8 Cingular OS ROM which I reverted back to. Any suggestions how I can replace my extended ROM ?
any luck so far?
Hi guys,
Are we getting any hope/luck to unlock Ext ROM for JAMin/Prophet?
I don't know how you guys are doing it. I have tried several times to delete items in my extended rom using total commander, at least 10 times and the result is the same. After the hard reset all that was deleted was re-installed after the reset.
I have contacted TC a while ago, and have not heard anything, maybe they are working on it.
Just curious....as I'm new to this ext rom stuff....but why don't you just "not install" the ext rom. Then use gsfinder to install whichever .cabs you want? If any? Just curious as I may be missing something.

No, I think the end result would be pretty much the same. For me I would like an Extended ROM for the JAMin that includes exacty what I want installed - no Backgammon, AntiVirus, Smart Dialing, Skype and a single Operator Settings file for TMO USA. Then when I hard reset I don't have to mess with anything else, just let it go. I had my KJAM setup that way and I would like the JAMin to be the same. I would also be as close to an OEM install as I can get (without the junk) so I don't have to worry about proper default settings not being there because of some file I didn't install or installed in the wrong order. Having said all this and thinking about it more I am sure you would get to the same point doing your procedure and then installing the required .cab files in the proper order.
Now I have a question:
Wonder what would happen if I did a hard reset, then did the soft reset to stop the Ext ROM install, installed the required .cab files in order, soft reset and then restored from a Sprite BU file. Wonder would I be restoring any files that could cause problems due to an imcomplete ROM install? I guess I will have to try that first since I do hate to re-install a bunch of apps and especially have to re-enter all the reg codes.

JAMin + changing ROM

Hi Guys i own a imate JAMin that i bought and it has telstra branding on the phone/pda, it isnt locked to this carrier, but i need to get rid of there loaded stuff on the pda
what i need to know is a few things if possible please
1. is there a walk through somewhere on how to change the rom to a standard one
2. where can i download a new rom from
3. can i screw it up bad ?
any other help would be great
Thanks
t0ne
Easy, just download Total commander from http://www.ghisler.com/
Open it up and at the top type \Extended_Rom
This will show the contents of your extended rom, you will see loads of things but the ones you want are the cabs relating to your provider. Or all providers actually, Delete allt the cabs that dont start with Default_ these are what brand your device when you hard reset.
Now just hard reset, it will isntall all the normal stuff but will leave you with a brand free jamin.
Hi dannyoneill,
thanks for the program, only problem i have is how do i add the jamin to it so that i can see it and do what u r saying ?
thanks
You need to download and install Windows CE FS plug-in. You will then see a mobile device entry in the file window. I recommend dragging it to the toolbar so you will always have a button for convenient access (total commander can open files directly form the device).
Also I don't remember it now, but if you search this forum there is a registry tweak that will unhide your extended ROM so you can use it for extra storage space (and manipulate files in it using regular explorer both on device and PC). You can use the free PHM Registry editor to apply the tweak.
Just follow the instructions to install total commander onto your PPC. Make sure you click the link to the mobile version and not the desktop version.
thanks dannyoneill, got it working..
jsut a few other questions if u dont mind
im in the \Extended_Rom folder with the default stuff but the telstra stuff i want to get rid of has Default_Telstra_australia_SA_UN_V2.20.CAB and also Default_Australia_Telstra.CAB as the file names, will these be ok to delete still ?
thanks
Yes, you can delete them.
If you really want everything here is safe to delete. What it usually contains are patches like driver updates, applications like the backgammon, antivirus and Skype.
Below is taken from another post, its a little out of date but still good to see whats what. For me. I removed all the operators apart from my own (as it doesnt brand) plus got rid of backgammon, antivirus (totally useless on a PPC) and skype as the latest version is better (especially if you apply the registry fix to get it working)

Poll for sticking this 3d!
THANKS !!!

P.S.: may I install basic stuff to the ExtROM while it's hidden ?
Or, if I need to unhide it, install, then re-hide, will such software still playable ?
I mean for example:
- Total commander itself
- Resco explorer
- Storage tools
- Sprite Backup
- and so on...
Is it a strange idea ?
Thanks again for this illuminating thread.
You can unlock and install things no problem, not done it myself, done know if they will still be usable after its re-hidden i would think not.
The extended rom is reserved so empty or not its not going to give you more ram or rom storage at all. The best thing to do is unlock it and use it for storage. The annoying thing is if you hard reset you then have to re-unlock it.

BTW, on the i-mate website's JAMin support pages, you will find specific operator settings for Optus in a downloadable CAB file, which will setup the wireless settings for your device.
