Received the phone with the moisture indicator red. Phone wouldn't turn on, but the camera light stayed on as long as the battery was installed. I dissasembled the unit and scrubbed the motherboard with alcohol, dried it and reassembled it. Still would not turn on, but the camera light came on. I tried to turn it on in Bootloader mode and Viola it turned on in Bootloader. I then flashed T-Mobile ROM and now everything works fine, except the camera light is still on. The camera works fine. All functions of the phone work fine, except the camera light won't turn off. Must be a hardware problem. Phone is a G3 MDA. Any suggestions?
The flash module is bad. As far as I know you can't fix that module, just replace it. What I did to one of my wizards was to just remove the flash module as the flash is more than just worthless. I did swap in a working flash and all was working again. If you were able to dismantle the phone, just pay attention and removing the flash module is very simply. You only need to take the camera cover off I believe and then gently pry it out.

I guess I don't understand how the flash module works. Seems to me the light will be on as long as it getting power from the motherboard. I swapped out the flash module with another MDA. Light is still on all the time. I have either got two bad flash modules or the motherboard is putting power to the flash module continuously. I would think the power to the flash module would come from a capacitance discharge circuit that is triggered by the camera switch. I'm guessing that that capaciter has gone bad, allowing power to flow continuously to the flash module. Just a guess. I'll leave the flash module out, insulate the power connectors.
Well it looks like your problem is different than mine. I don't know why swapping modules out worked for me. I assumed the phone supplies power and the light turns on. But in my case, I had three flash modules and three wizards. And only 1 of them when put in the phone would always be on when the phone had power. The other two worked perfectly. If I put the bad flash module in the other two wizards and it would stay on. So I concluded that the module was bad and the cause of the problem and not the phone/motherboard. But again, our problems must be different.

Camera Flash on all time
I am facing the same problem... the flash keeps flickering n does not switch off.
It only switches off when turned on/off using the camera. Still after some time it switches on again...
I was told on on forum that it is a hardware problem. I am considering opening it and breaking the flash LED so it is gone
In any case the flash is quite useless as it does not make much difference to the quality of the picture :|
I had this problem as well. I called warranty service and they replaced my device
same here flashlight flashing like a disco
even when the device is off, and this is lame, any solutions?? seems only 1 of the 3 leds does that. please anyone can guide us on this? its a wizard
I too had this problem on one of my wizards. It is the camera flash board itself that is bad, not the main motherboard. I simply removed my flash, it was useless anyways. But now I know if I want to fix it I need to find a broken wizard and harvest its flash board. I was able to test this by putting a known working flash into the phone that was previously giving me problems and it work flawlessly.
To remove the flash:
1. Take off back battery cover.
2. Using a small flathead screwdriver carefully pry off the camera cover, it just clips into place.
3. Carefully pry up black housing around camera flash and camera lens.
4. Remove flash board from black housing.
5. Put it all back together.

Of course, I am not responsible for whatever you do to your phone.
Hi,
My phone suddenly developed a strange problem, the flash light always stays on, even if the camera is off, even if the phone is shut down using the power button. only if i remove the battery it lights off.
I think it looks like an electronics issue, but for safe side i have flashed another ROM but the problem continues.
Any Ideas?
Cheers

Sounds like a real battery drainer... Have you ever gotten the phone wet or dropped pretty hard?
Have you tried a hard reset? Nevermind... You flashed another rom, pretty much the same thing.
Hmmm. Try flashing back to your carriers latest rom and then back to the custom one you are using and see if that helps.

Okay, I already have a fine working black G1 with a broken camera ribbon, the ribbon is a ***** attaching to the motherboard always seems to come off during install of the motherboard, and it force closes the camera app when started. But today I got a white mint condition G1 with water damage for free. The white one does not power on and looks almost brand new.
I want to swap out the guts and install my mainboard, camera, baseband, utms in the white one and use it. Now 2 concerns, would the screen and keyboard be fine?
and also when I am reassembeling how would i do the camera ribbon? its always a ***** cause it seems to come off when i put the motherboard in the brackets.
thanks guys.
Did you check the service manual that's floating around? Not sure if it's in there but it's worth a look if you haven't checked already.
Alright, I've managed to transfer everything from my phone onto the water damged phone except the keyboard and the screen and when connected to a charger, it lights up red led and when i take it off the keyboard lights stay on and so does the red led. it stays on. Now my only concern is what is the problem now? I've managed to put back together my phone and it works perfectly fine.
Hey guys,
I recently changed the battery on my A2017G, I was very careful not to damage anything and to dismount everything properly.
After putting the phone back together, somehow it didn't want to boot anymore (bootstack screen, and then blinking red led with everything except fastboot).
I figured it was a software issue, since it got solved with a full EDL flash. I still don't know how a battery change could have messed that up.
But now, the right capacitive button (recent apps) doesn't react at all anymore. The home and previous buttons still work perfectly.
I flashed other EDL roms, did a full factory reset, or tried swapping buttons, nothing changes, still the right one isn't reacting.
I carefully checked all the flex cables and connectors inside the phone, they all seem as good as new, no scratch, bend or any other damage.
So my question is, could it be a software issue? Since the EDL full flash is not always doing things correctly...
If it's a hardware issue, I guess I could have messed up the screen flex cable without leaving a mark on it.
But wouldn't that prevent all the buttons to work?
I just want to be sure, before buying a new screen frame (those aren't cheap).
Thanks

You would need to buy a new screen (i.e. around $90) so I say you should start looking into gesture navigation or at least on-screen navbar if nothing works out... the capacitive sensors are affixed to the screen.
I usually had my Back button crap out, but weirdly enough it would start working either after doing a lot of pressure on it or after a reboot.
The capacitive button surely comes through the screen connector, did you check that?

Yes I did, it seems in perfect state.
My theory is that I might have accidentally put some pressure on this flex connector with my plastic tool, while trying to remove the battery.
There are no visible damages, but maybe it's just damaged inside.
Right now I'm using the MiPop, but it's less than ideal...
I wish there was a way to put the on screen softkeys back and disable de hardware ones.
Probably enabling the softkeys isn't that hard, but disabling the hardware ones... ?

Try Fluid Navigation Gestures, I'm currently on another phone with navbar and i'm using that. it's very nice and doesn't use screen space
To enable the navbar you should be on a custom ROM or at least on Chinese MiFavor, I'm not sure if it's possible on G/U systems and I recall not being able to enable the navbar on these
actually I just found that:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/themes/a2017g-navigation-bar-enabler-disabler-t3740817
since I'm also using raystef66's custom rom, I guess it's perfect
Hello Team,
I've had my Essential Ph-1 for several years and loved it. Recently I replaced the battery with no issues. However, I notice that since replacing the battery, the stock camera app would not launch with an error initializing the camera, and it said to restart the phone. Rebooting the phone made no difference.
I opened the device back up and carefully checked all the wires and connections, and they're all tight and nothing looks cut, cracked, or disconnected. I tried a third party camera app (OpenCamera), and it worked fine on the front facing camera, but the rear camera was in black and white only. Since then I have tried factory resetting and re-flashing the firmware, and now the front camera works (in third party app) but the rear camera is not even recognized and I don't get an option to swap cameras.
Any suggestions? Is there anything I can check to troubleshoot this further?
TIA!

As it's happened at the same time as battery replacement you'd have to think the two are related. Possible try a "simulated battery pull" to ensure camera is powered down, that is a force restart, press power button & vol driven together for 15secs (I think). If this doesn't work try disconnect/reconnect any components related to camera. Only other thing I can think of is the camera or related component has received ESD damage form static electricity (most likely a diode or small IC), maybe you can find a cheap bricked or damaged phone for spares, if camera module expensive, assuming it's the camera.
Appreciate the response. I think you're right. I've forced restarted and flashed it back to stock, and while the stock camera doesn't work, I found that if I use a third party app (such as OpenCamera) the rear camera works in Greyscale only (not in Color).

hummmm ... Yes, hard to say for sure boat seems like some hardware issue on the color camera, hope you can find a simple fix.
Appreciate the followup. After looking farther. I see there is a hairline crack in the camera. I bought a parts EssentialPH1 off of eBay for ~$50 and will give swapping them a shot.

that would likely explain it, hope you fix it easily (see the video on youtube from Fixeze & ifixit if you haven't already
