Hi, i've been lurking around the forums for a while, and i managed to unlock and update my wizard to Blackdiamond 3.1 thanks to the wonderful tutorials (evilmonkey rules).
However, i've been trying to find a source for programs that are compatable with the wizard (be it wm5 or wm6) and i can only really find crappy sites that charge money for free programs.
i don't want anything illegal , but i'd just like a source of where to find programs that will work on the wizard that are free, like Java support, a Sudouku game, games, misc apps...etc
searching around the forums, i've found a few programs such as Mplayer (that doesn't work quite well on the wizard) and pocketnester (freaking Awesome) but does anyone have a more concise source of what works for SURE on the wizard? ( there are some programs that aren't included on certain distros, even though i would love to have them)
thanks in advance. If i have missed a similar post, then please feel free to call me an idiot and direct me to the post.
many here

yes, i already did that, what i was referring to in general, was software that actually worked flawlessly on the wizard be it wm5 or wm6.

Are you talking about Virtual Earth Mobile cos this is brilliant. I used to use a version that required a java plug in but I reckon this is better excellent in fact.

This gives a cab file so dead easy to install.

Sorry if I was a little dismissive re Java version, and as I'm feeling guilty, here's a link that will help if you really want to pursue the Java, Jar, Jad, Midlet thingy route.
Note "Google Local Mobile got renamed to Google Mobile Maps (gmm) and the main Java class is now called GoogleNav."

Also some more info on Java on PDAs here:

I use the IBM J9 java emulator. Works well.
BTW You might like to have a look at MG Maps:
http://www.mgmaps.com/
It can access Google Maps, Google Satellite, MSN Road Map, MSN Aerial, MSN Aerial with labels, Yahoo Maps, Yahoo Satellite, Ask.com Maps and Ask.com Aerial. It's GPS aware (although this doesn't seem to work with my BT GPS) and can access KML overlays (although I haven't tried this out yet.)
Very nice.

People still use java??? I haven't used java on my phone since I last had a SonyEricsson! I haven't bothered with Java on WM phones.
java and flash are the future of mobiles, they just haven't realized it yet (aside from Japan ) and ajax...
I think the original poster was referring to javascript, not real java code. A lot of Banks and online sites us javascript and it used to be a big problem with ce and wm2002 and wm 2003. WM5 seems to handle some of the basic javascript and then there are several apps for addon such as IBM's j9 or websphere or what ever the name is this year. Also, midlet's are becoming more available

You mean JavaScript? Very few pages use client-side Java and I don't think this will change.

Nope, Google Earth is Midlet-based; see my Midlet & Google Earth -related articles.
Is there any way you can get a pluggin that makes java midlets (J2ME) Work any better? The ammount of midlets that install and then just do nothing is appaling? Sony Ericcsons and Nokia's have multiplayer Bluetooth Midlets that work on either device, why not on ours?? Also one in particular is REPORO (Awesome Program) They have a midlet specifically made for the Wizzard wchic works fine on the Tytn but I have found it is massively cut down! On a Nokia or Sony Ericsson or Motorola (I work in a phone shop so have everything readily available) They can all access the phones contact book and Pictures and Camera so you can send free picture messages to other REPORO users! Now Ive installed all the other brands versions onto my VARIO and they all install fine but then they dont run and crash my phone! Can I get an emulator or a pluggin to fix this?
www.REPORO.com
(Awesome if only for the live football results)
Chat rooms
Free Texts
Free Picture Messages
MSN, YAHOO, AIM, Google Messenger!
Shopping
News
Horrorscopes
And the list keeps getting bigger! Awesome software!! (MAke sure you select the O2 XDA MINI S as your device as its the only Wizzard derivative on there.
Install the J9 VM like others have mentioned.
Oh, and remember: "Write Once, Run Anywhere"...HA!!
Hi all,
I have done some searching from the forums about java using bluetooth and did not find anything. This is my first post here so blame it on my noobiness if I just missed it.
So.. what I understand (and that is not much in win based mobile devices at this point) the JSR-82 is a some kind of a "framework" which enables java to use bluetooth in applications. I have been trying to use some java applications meant to be used with bluetooth, only to find out that it is not supported with hermes (HTC Tytn with win mobile 5.0 to be more accurate.)
Now I am asking you is there any way around this and is it possible to get this JSR-82 whatever working with my tytn. It would be nice since it would enable the use of java based chat applications and such, which are using bluetooth. Java for that reason that then I could run the same applications as my friends for example with sony ericson.
Sorry for my bad language and bare in mind that this is my first post. thanks for all the answers and have a nicest day!
Sincerely yours,
Henry
No one else wants to use bluetooth functions thru java? or am I missing something critical here?
I have a Verizon XV6700, but am quite new to PocketPC scene. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's an WM6 update out there that is compatible with my phone. I've found some of the WM6 roms, and know how to go about installing them...but I haven't found anyone saying they have upgraded an XV6700. Any help would be much appreciated.
This site is alittle encouraging...

seeing as how it shows my phone running Windows Mobile 6
Thanks,

Have no message about APACHE'S wm6 come out, or any schedule. The MS pages just shows apache that runs WM5, not crossbow.
This is just sad.....135 views and 1 reply
EDIT 186
That's because there are no WM6 ROMs for Apaches. The highest weve gotten is to WM5 AKU 3.5. With this there are some programs from WM6 included but that is about it.
There is some hope that now that the Mogul is out we might be able to get a WM6 working but I wouldn't hold your breathe.
but what if we got a copy of WM6 and tried to load it in the Apache? Would it work? Ive got an extra apache i have been using for testing.......i wonder if I........
There is no generic "copy of WM6" you can get that will work on the 6700. Any copy you find is for any of 100s of different hardware - putting it on your hardware may kill your hardware, or at best just not work.
Just wait, or if you want to help go to ppcgeeks dot com, where helmi_c is working with several folks to bring updated roms to the 6700 (thanks helmi!)
I think?
My apache just got upgraded to WM6 by a fellow xdaer. I am now in love with my pda all over again. My montra had been it is not a good phone and it is not a good pda. It works just not even as good as my xv6600 with ppc2003 on it. It doesn't hang up nearly as much with 6 vs. 5. It seams to work great, better than WM5. Finally I have voice activated dialing again after a hiatus of 4 years! I am actually making this post while looking for the source info that was used refrenced in xdadev.com. Happy hunting I'll try to find my way back here if i find the info.
I just got the xv6700 after having the treo 700wx.
Can some please give me a step by step on how to get wm6 on the device?
Do I download the apache thing directly to the phone and then do the boot mode?
Thanks
I would also like it if someone could post a step by step way on getting WM6 to the xv6700
WM6
for all apache owners who dont kno it has been developed by helmi_c

WM6 for verizon
check out ppc geeks apache upgrades...helmi_c...I've found the latest version works, but you have to be very spartan about your choices of apps. It gets weird if you select too many items and you really don't have any clues other than your apache consistently screws up, i.e., performance declination, programs not functioning as intended, anything that takes away from your machine doing what it is intended to do.
I've loaded the same rom 3 times and all three have behaved in thier owm unique way. I'll be more specific if anyone is interested.
Suffice to say the 3rd time was a charm. I only soft reset maybe twice a week. I do have to be aggressive in my memory management.
Have fun.

Hello all,
I have receintly upgraded to an Xperia X1 on Vodafone UK, coming from a very old out of date phone, it is quite a leap, though i am use to Windows mobile.
I have been reading some of the topics here and have come across some questions, which i hope some kind sole does not mind answering for me.
1) A lot of talk is about flashing ROMS, i assume this is some kind of upgrade to the firmware or OS. Would somebody mind just explaining what it is and why its of benifit.
2)Another thing that has generated a lot of talk is hard SPL, again what is this?
3) I am a keen gamer and want to get some good games up and running on my phone. Though a lot of what i try does not work, i have seen suggestion on other forums that a bit of software can help a lot of compatible games run. Does anybody know what it is i may require? I have seen a video on youtube of somebody running some FPS games is this fake or is it possible?
4) As a new Xperia owner i would also like some suggestions of anything that people think to be essential, to get the best out of my phone. Be these software, firmware upgrades ect. I have installed Batti and Xperia Tweak both of which have been extremely usefull.
Cheers in advance for any help.
1) Have you ever formatted your PC because it's full of junk and it's the only way to remove the crap and start a fresh? Bit like that with some ROM's. Others start from nothing and install programs for you. I find it best to use a clean ROM (Jacks) then install what I want on top.
2) Hard_SPL allows you to flash a new ROM onto the device.
3) FPS is possible but remember it is a phone at the end of the day. Alot of games run fine and the rest just need the VGA fix as it's a different resolution.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the swift and helpfull responce.
So if i was to flash a new rom would it speed up my phone any or stop/reduce all the random errors i get?
I have heard that i may need to install .net framework 3.5 onto my phone to get some of the games working. How easy and safe is this to do? I assume it is just like adding anyother software to my phone.
Yes I would (and have) installed 3.5 framework. It is easy to install and maintain as it's just a cab installer.
I use the Jacks 1.4 Lite ROM. It's much quicker than stock and is as stable as you make it really. I highly reccomend at least reading up about it.

Well so far I've installed SPB Backup, which does pretty much what it says on the tin. Useful if you plan on doing any modding, I guess. I also stuck SPB time on there coz I needed a decent stopwatch. There's a neat little program called Touch Response that basically makes the phone vibrate slightly when you press the touchscreen. The strength of the vibrate can be configured. It's not essential but it gives a nice physical feedback which touch screens often lack. Flash 3.1 is available for download and works with the Opera 9.5 browser. Oh yeah, coreplayer's a good one too. I can't remember where I got all of these but there should be some links on here. You could also try www.xperia-x1.com or www.inexperia.com or www.modaco.com
My current software setup includes:
Resco Explorer - Nice touch-friendly file explorer with many options
Mini Stumbler - Helps you find wifi hotspots
Call Firewall - Nice people ditcher
Coreplayer - for playing videos with assorted codecs
G-Alarm - Cool alarm replacement, you have to solve a puzzle before being able to snooze it
Missed call reminder - beep reminder for missed calls
Newsbreak - RSS reader
Pocket Tunes - iTunes playlist sync for winmo
Resco Audio Recorder - lets you record voice notes and your own phone conversations
Spb Wireless Monitor - lets you run reports on internet usage
Stopwatch - standard stop watch
hTorch - turns your camera flash into a flashlight
This is why i sold my iphone to come back to windows mobile, it's sooo much flexible, I missed being able to mod my phone.
Thanks once again for the great responces and help, they have been of great use i will be getting a good 80% of what has been suggested, it sounds right up my street.
a few months ago, when i was a regular user of this forum, i saw lots of threads about trinity software and applications, now i cant find them.
anyone knows were to find them?
trinity don't use special software apart from the rom it's std windows moible software which works on all devices
if you seek a special program you can try using search to find it if you recall it's name
