How to: Use GSM instead of 3G by default? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I was wondering if anybody knows what registry to change so that on a hard reboot, the rom uses GSM by default instead of using 3G. Thanks

I know this is not fancy, but you can call rogers to turn off access for 3G...that's what i did
good luck

????
What about a some kind of tweak software??

wow, someone revived such an old thread. Actually, you only need to change a registry settings from Auto to GSM.

Phone disconnects EDGE connection. Bypass?

Hey i was wondering if there was a bypass so the phone doesnt interupt the data connection. Is this possible? Thanks.
sorry if this is already answered. i tried searching but couldnt find what i was looking for.
nope, only 3G handsets can do that.
It can be done with a registry hack. Try searching xda-devlopers forum for "registry wizard". Its a program someone made with a bunch of registry hacks put into a nice simple program. Just dont use the default keyboard hack. It locks your wizard up and you have to hard reset.
which tweak do you check in regitry wizard to bypass this?
I dont know. I've never done it manually. Just get the registry editor. Its all automatic and you can download it from these forums if you try. i think the thread is called "easy tweaking your wizard" or something like that.
it will still disable your GPRS during a phone call, but this tweak will reconnect afterwards.

HTC Home Plugin 6-Tab

I've tried searching for this but I haven't been able to find an answer, my apologies if I missed it.
I am using "HTC Home Plugin 0409 6-Tab.cab" on my Artemis (P3300) running WM6. Is there a way to have the weather auto-update/refresh either on a timer, schedule or some other way? It would be preferable if it could be set to only update/refresh if the phone is on a particular network or if could be easily set to not update (I sometimes travel internationally so this would be a great way to avoid international data roaming).
If its not possible with this .cab, is there one that does this that can be recommended?
Thanks in advance.

In the settings where you select the city there is an option menu you can access via the right softkey. You can set it to update automatically.
Thank you!
Do you happen to know the frequency of the updates and if there is a way to adjust it?

[REQ]3G in Comm Manager - GPRS and UMTS only (not Auto)

hi guyz.. i've been searching all entire universe how to change my Comm Manager 3G option to make it GPRS / UMTS only (not GPRS / Auto) ... in fact i've been searching the settings in registry but no good to me.. i'm afraid if i'll brick or caused me to HR my Touch Pro if i over-change my registry it comes to dead end to me
So i'm begging to experties out there who can help me or guide me how to change the registry or create a small apps that can allow me to change my band network either GPRS or UMTS (WCDMA) only.. either it applicable in Comm Manager or an independent app..
or else, i have do it manually, Start>Settings>Phone>Band>[change]
Currently i've found Comm Manager Pro that meets my need but the app is too big and eats my memory bcoz it has other functions which are unnecessary to me (and its not free too )
thanks to all xda's members attention.. and sorry to make this request too long to read..

Disable GPRS/Data and Have WiFi on Demand ONLY [With Solution]

Hi All,
I know we have many tools to achive this like: "NoData" and "TD2 Tools". But I do not want to use these Tools.
They are good tools. NoData will disable Data/GPRS, but Can't make WiFi on demand. When the TD2 Tool can do both (or can give me what I want), but I do not want use this ONLY for this purpose (I am not using other services of this tool).
So This is how I want:
I disable the data connection by Settings -> Connections -> Advanced and select "My Work Network" instead of GPRS/Internet connection. So this prevents me to use the GPRS Connection.
Now Can one of you suggest how should I edit the settings of the "My Work Network" to use WiFi when demand? Or is there any Registry edit that will make WiFi on Demand instead of Connect when phone is used
Edit: For Solution Goto POST#15 in this thread or Here.
Thanks.

If GPRS is disabled, wouldn't it automatically roll over to WiFi?
Set both to Internet and disable GPRS from registry.
Also have a read here.

Thanks Bruce for the response...
Disable/Enable GPRS from registry is tricky than Connection Settings Change. So I will prefer the connection change option.
And reg. Set both to internet.. What does this mean? How can set WiFi to OnDemand? I think on the Stock 6.5.3 Ondemand wifi option is not there like it used to be in 6.5 stock roms. (Like WiFi will be on only if you use it, but in 6.5.3 if you get device to ON mode from standby it activate/connect)

I think if you delete your current modem settings and create a new one w/o any server info, that will permanently disable GPRS and make WiFi your default.
TD2 Tools could set your WiFi on during standby.
Thanks again for reply. I am good with NOT using GPRS. So no worry on that side.
I only need assitance to set/configure WiFi so that it will be used/connected on demand (I dont want this to be connected any time I use my phone).
Note: I dont want WiFi to connect/start when I get my phone from standby to ON state, it should connect to WiFi ONLY When any application connect to Internet.
I hope my question is clear now
Thanks.
Any pointers???
In TD2 Tools 3 there is an option called "WiFi On Demand Service" which should turn on WiFi (if available) instead of GPRS when needed. Unfortunately this feature is disabled with the ROM I'm running, so I don't know if it works..did you try it?

Hi, Thanks for reply and if you see my first post, I know it is possible using TD2 Tools and also using NoData.
But I dont want to use the TD2 tools only for this feature , I know it is a GREAT tool for TD2 .
So is there any registry change or some other?

Thanks.
Hello Experts, any clue/pointer?
Here is the solution
New ROM 6.5 with Manila 2.5 lacks this feature which you can not turn on with GAZ TD2 Tools. But here is the solution. Install the cab and enjoy your Wi-Fi on demand feature.

Do The 3g OR MMS Work On Simple Mobile Carrier?

Yes...using latest Energy ROM and all works great...can even tether @ $60/month!!!!
Looking to find a cab to adjust simple mobile MMS settings to max...what that max is I don't know yet...defaults to 300k in ROM.
If anyone has anything it would be great...I remember the old school way to change registry, but, I want to throw something in xda_uc folder. If someone knows the max settings I could try adjusting registry and exporting .reg and make a .cab if one isn't floating around.
EDIT: Just read somewhere that T-Mo size limit is 300k, so, inturn, I am "assuming" that Simple Mobile would be the same? However, I also assumed I wouldn't be able to tether and was able to?
Going to test as I just adjusted size to 614400 in registry...not optimistic.
Edit: 497k MMS Failed. 300k...Energy ROM (Simple Mobile) default. No need change settings as I thought.
....searching now. Any links would be appreciated.
