Sorry but my english is not very good!
I want to know how I can flash any ROM on my Herald!?? It is not branded (original HTC)! I've read something about CID, can anybody tell me what this means?
Do I have to "unlock the CID" für flashing any ROM on my Herald?
CID lock, is a provider lock so you can not install another ROM on your phone. Look in the Herald thread for HARD-SPL.
But before hand, you have to know what your SPL and IPL is. Go into bootloader(press camera and softreset button and then relase only softreset button) You will get a 3 color display with numbers.
Those numbers should start with SPL/IPL 4 or 5! If you see like: 1.08.0000 eg. then you can't use this program till you upgrade to SPL/IPL 4 or 5.
You do NOT need to CID unlock because Herald users have a backway of flashing. Hard-SPL is a dangerous tool and not 100% compatible with ALL phones. Before using it, be aware that you may brick your device permanently. The other way is MUCH safer. Most of the posted ROMs here use that way, with the occassional (but not always successful while it IS safe) USPL.
Either way, make sure you have a copy of the stock RUU in hand before you begin.

Any of the ROMs since they all come with "safe" ways to flash. HardSPL is done seperately.
Is it right, that I can flashing any ROM on my Herald?
Do I need to "unlock" my Herald, before this can be done?

You don't need to unlock anything. You can use any HERALD ROM. There's a thread I created around here that has instructions. Look for it under the Herald Mobile 6 forum and look for "Official flash" thread by ivanmmj.

I was googling around for CID Unlocking the Herald when I found this:

Sorry for my bad English! I'm vietnamese so i understand what they say in this Vietnemese site. they said that if you want to unlock extended rom you have to unlock CID....that all, I think everyone who have problem with CID lock have to pay 38$ for Imei-check...

As far as I know from wizard is Unhide-only that the extended_rom is shown in totalcommander when you type "extended_rom" and unlock means - you can write it.

Well then, my excuses Let us post CID-unlock ideas here! a LOT of people don't want to try and flash their devices, because of being afraid that they brick them...
And by the way, you do NOT have to ulock CID before you can unlock Extended ROM

Yeah, I've used plenty of utilities written by pof, and I've never had any problems with them.
Hopefully, they'll make something to CID unlock the heralds soon. I guess in a sense, I don't really need it, but I still want to do it! haha

Yes, technically it IS a cid-unlock.
However, it's still in beta and unless you're technoproficient, you probably shouldn't install.
Now to answer your question.
There are two kinds of locks :SIM and CID
Sim locks keep you locked to a certain network
CID locks prevent you from flashing a different rom
Both can be circumvented, but that takes time and hard work.
For heralds and wings, you can always use aserg's method for flashing, which is brilliantly simple, but you have to have an RUU to do it correctly.
The problem with this is that some Herald models *cough*XDA terra*cough* don't have an RUU, Heralds, like ALL ppcs, are CID-locked to that particular redistributor's RUU. This is where CID-unlocking comes in. If you can CID unlock, you can flash any rom you need, including other companies RUU.

my herald have now the portuguese ROM (4.17.410.2 PTG and RADIO 02.94.90), that i had updated from wm5 Oficcial ROM.

does your service provider provide a wm6 upgrade for you phone? If so, it is best to flash it first.
Once you have done so, check to see if your SPL is greater than 4. you can do so by entering bootloader by soft resetting and holding the camera key.
If it is indeed above 4, you have two solutions for a CID unlock.
One choice is USPL, which temporarily CID unlocks your phone.
The other is HardSPL, which permanentl CID unlocks your phone. Relocking it from HardSPL (if you have to send it in for service, for example) can be difficult.
In the future, please search before posting and do not resurrect threads this old. When this thread was first replied to, aserg's way was still the primary technique for flashing (just to give you an idea of how old this is)
Hi i have a Prophet but i destroyed it. Now i would like to buy another smartphone i want to buy a herald from Germany new (O2 XDA TERRA). But it has a rom in German and as i know it uses WM5. Is it simple and possible to install WM6 English or Greek (as i am from Greece) in this phone? In prophet i had installed WM6 after HardSPLED my phone. In this phone i have to do the same? Please don't become ungry with my thread ... Please do not hesitate to inform me...

It depends on your ispl number and what rom you intend on flashing to. Which rom are you planning on flashing to? Open touch doesn't require hard spl, so you can just use the uspl method.
So you mean that the method to install a different rom than the original is different from the prophet method? Is there a possibility that the device i will buy to be locked and never can install a different rom? Please inform me because i want to buy it immediately

You really have two options as far as flashing. You can hard spl or you can use the uspl. Uspl method seems to be safter than hard spl'ing. That being said, it really depends on what rom you are trying to flash to. If you go to ie. open touch, you can use the safer uspl method. If you go to ie touch it, you need to hard spl first.

Here is the method for USPL....which I would recommend since it's safer.

If the SPL is lower than 4.0.0.0, there is another way to flash... it's not perfect, it's been know to fail, and it does not reformat the memory thus you do not regain any wasted storage space, BUT it would at least give you a newer ROM...

Can this be possible?
Another question: is really nice to change the original ROM? I get some new features like more speed (without using overclock), and other apps?

I have a P3301... i´ve just buyed it. Wich ROM is more new and recommended for this device?
I was worried about the ROM wich i asked in first post, because the related posts about that, all were posted in 2007...
We are in final of 2008.... and i have a new device... So i wanted a more recent and complete ROM....

well in my opinion and for WWE ROM try the following:
if you want a rom with manila i highly recomend FlyROM (the one in my segniture)
if you want a clean and best performance try the YuE v11.3 ExtraClean.
and there are other ROMs what i did not tried even they look good like gulloms and T.I.R

yes if you want to flash any ROM except your device original ROM you have to CID UNLOCK first...

In FlyROM, for example: does it updates just OS, or another features like radio, etc...?
no it doesn't the spl will remain .11 and the radio as it was before flashing
Can you explain to me waht the SPL initals mean?
IPL - Initial Program Loader, a bit like BIOS on a desktop.
SPL - Secondary Program Loader, the bootloader, which starts the OS.
and for the number as you know it's like a version and when it .111 it's unlocked as i know
