I just received my vzw xv6800 with the sandisk 8GB microSDHC card they recommended (Part #TMADP–8GB).
I put the card into the device and went to Running Programs | Storage Device tab and it looks like the xv6800 recognizes it as 4GB (3686.5MB to be exact). But the card is recognized as 8GB in a friend's mp3 player.
On their sandisk microSDHC page (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/splash.jsp?v=10) they state that the sandisk card is only compatible with certain devices and the xv6800 is not one of them. However, on another page they actually sell the same card for the xv6800 (http://search.vzw.com/?i=1&market=94531+All&q=sandisk+xv6800&search=&tp=vw&u1=q )
So is there a way to determine from the ROM or at the os level what the largest storage card size the device really supports? And is there some way to find out if the device supports HC microSD cards? I find it hard to believe that vzw would say this device supports 8GB when it really only supports 4GB. But then again this is vzw . . .
Thanks
Well...from a aftermarket software standpoint... I think there is a .cab file you can download to your device that recognize's 6 & 8GB SD cards.
I called UTStar and they said the phone only supports 4GB. Then I called vzw back and the rep was like, "yeah, it only supports 4GB". Funny, the rep I spoke to yesterday saw that it supported 8GB in the docs she looked at, the vzw rep that left me a voicemail this morning stated that it supports 8GB and their website still shows 8GB on the phone details tab (I pasted it below). I'm inclined to believe the UTStar guy but he wasn't very nice so he might have just been trying to get me off the phone. Since all these customer service reps are not helpful, is there anyway to determine what this phone supports by looking at the ROM ?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3411
And then click on the Phone Details tab at the bottom.

There is a .cab called SDHC.777.cab that you need to find and install. The device will then see the full 8GB on the card. I have the 8GB card and it works fine with this patch.
You can find the cab file at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/666225-post41.html
The SDHC.777.cab works. I have the 8GB Micro as well...
Excellent! Thanks guys, its working nicely now and I'm really glad I found this community.
(nemanracing, I see you have the same phone. What other goodies do you recommend?)
SD card
I have the same problem and have tried the 777 cab and no results. Device still sees 3.6 gig. I also tried the other cab file and it did not work either. I could not overwrite the dll files in the win dir. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
Dogdaz,
Did you install the driver to Main Memory? (In other words, when you are given the choice with two radio buttons, one for "Main Memory" and the other for "Storage Card", you must choose "Main Memory"). Also, I think you also have to do a reset.
Stupid question: The link to that shealyse posted is really to a ZIP file. Did you unzip that file AND then click on the .CAB?
Ha! I notice vzw has changed their website. Their site now reads:
* microSD™ memory slot (up to 4GB)
As I posted above, it used to show 8GB.
6800 Now showing support for 4GB
You are right... I noticed too and fortunately I just got the 2gb card. I also hit our corp VZW rep who noted that it was incorrect and in the process of being changed. This was a couple weeks ago.
Anyone else flashed thier 6800 yet!?
SDHC.777.cab works perfectly for me. Reads as 7782.5mb. My problem was my desktop computer's internal multi-card reader was not HC (hi capacity) as in SDHC compatable - would not read 8gb micro card at all. This is a harware issue, not a driver issue. I got a new HC compatable internal multi-card reader for about $15 online and it works fine.
I suspect that when VZW updates the xv6800 ROM, the SDHC.777.cab fix will no longer be needed, although I am sometimes wary how VZW "fixes" things....
the verizon 6800 ships with ROM 2.09
the 2.09 drivers did not support over 4gb
8gb works in all titan roms version 2.14 and up, regardless of carrier.
it may work in 2.13 as well but i cant verify
i dont know if you should blame htc or verizon because i dont know why the vzw 6800 ships with 2.09. htc builds the rom for verizon, and the problem has been fixed at htc for some time now. off topic: whats the rom date on the vz model?
I've got an XV6800, and the SDHC.777.cab worked to show the full capacity of my 8gb card.
Also, to answer your question, the ROM version as shipped by Verizon is 2.09.605.8.
Ack! To answer the question you actually asked: the date of the ROM is 08/03/07.
It worked great for me
I have a xv6800 and it was saying that it could not read the 8 GB microSD I bought, but now with this .cab file it can.
Thanks
Works with xv6800
I went to the website on my pda, downloaded and installed the 777 cab(in main memory) and did the reset when asked to, no problems, it reads my 8gb card now just fine.
I have verizon, xv6800

You mention that you have EVDO RevA on your XV6800- is that true? I thought it only comes with EVDDRev0.
All of this is solved if you flash one of the custom roms. DCD has a new version and there is a new radio out. The 8gb card works automatically after flashing these roms.
FYI for visitors, the MR1 upgrade (link) fixes this issue completely.
Note for those who did not know that MR1 fixed this issue, and installed SDHC-777.cab, and cannot get their SD card working: uninstall the SDHC patch, and reboot. (they are incompatible)

I thought the MR1 upgrade allowed the device to see up to 16GB - is that still the case?

Okay - so I thought it was a good idea to buy a combo card, not realising that this wasn't supported, when the standard WiFi-only card from SanDisk was... I'm not normally a compulsive buyer - that's what I get!!!
Has anybody come up with a work-around yet? I can't even get the WiFi part working at the moment, never mind the memory... I've got as far as being able to interrogate the card (but no AP browser) and haven't been able to format the memory, or connect to an AP (even though the little LED goes solid green). I wondered whether I'd see any improvement if I updated my ROM from 1.60WWE to 1.72WWE?
Thanks
The 256+WIFI is not supported by the XDAII
Sorry to break this to you but the card simply won't work. Apparently the XDA2 does not have the right internal drivers available to support the dual cards.
I am afraid that your ownly option is to return the card and buy separate memory and wifi cards.
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else is getting intermittent issues w/ their mini-SD card.
I've lost essentially all my data on my 2GB Sandisk on three separate occasions. I have formatted different ways (once w/ RescoExp, and then FAT32 on 2 computers), been v. careful closing my apps and minimizing the amount of writing to the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sandisk's comments are as follows:
"This is a known issue with the devices when they work this way with 2GB and up memory cards. Usually in this cases you just need to contact the manufacturer of the device that you having issues with the reading on, to find out about compatability and what kind of firmware update do you need."
Thanks!
I haven't had any issues with my SanDisk 2gb card using my K-JAM.
Now on other pdas and with other cards, I have had the "lose everything" problem. Two reasons I had...storing email attachments on the and having the unit crash while accessing the card.
My onyl problem with the larger card is my laptop doesn't recognize it
I lost all of my data just last week off of my card, I went ahead ahd reformatted it again, not sure whats wrong with the 2gb cards

I haven't had a single issue with my 2GB TOPRAM card. I have had a few issues where the device doesn't see it (I assume) and renames the folder to Storage Card 2 and creates a new folder "STorage Card" with nothing there. It happens rarely and when it does, I just take the card out, rename the bad folder to StorageCardOld then insert the card again. This corrects the issue. I use the card very heavily and have had it since around the end of January.
I too have had this problem. I hope my suggestion helps.
I've had issues in the past with Sandisk flash cards. My problems were the same as yours until some helpful spark suggested I do a disk error check using windows (right click on drive in explorer>properties>Tools>Error Checking). Format the card and then run the disk check, apparently some Sandisk flash cards exhibit not so rare sector problems. His explanation (the science bit of which I have long since forgotten) was that that by running the disk check, the utility automatically marks the error causing sectors as unusable. The disk can then be used as normal after that, but any reformatting should have the disk check run again to mark the sectors once more.
This has helped me in 2 out of three occasions and so may or may not work for you. Still, I hope this solves your problem.
BS answer from Sandisk
Leighj, that's a BS answer from Sandisk. I guess it would never occur to them that your SD card is defective. Try another card in your machine or that card in another PDA phone if you have either of those options, but if not contact Sandisk and get a replacement. It should have a lifetime warranty, or at least several years.
Have to agree with iclick. My Sandisk cards were basically defective and how I got them running was a workaround and not a solution.
Yes - I wasn't too happy with their response either. Anyway, I just ran through error checking before & after reformatting. Hopefully that works - if not I'm off to shop for a new card. Either way, it's probably the last Sandisk mem card I purchase.
Thanks for your comments!
I have a Sandisk 2Gb Mini-SD as well and I've not had any issues with it so far. If it helps, I've left the card in the factory default format of FAT only - not FAT32. Try putting yours back to FAT and see if you still get any issues. Depending on what program you use the option you want might be labelled as FAT16 instead of just FAT.
I have Sandisk Ultra 2G miniSD, I don't have any problems untill recently. Whenever I try to add my storage capacity to more than 60%, 1GB or more, it gave me an error because the file is write protected and then not responding file transfer.
First, I taught my file is broken, but when I removed other files from the mini SD card and then add it ..... it's work. I used a factory Format type. Do anyone have this problems :?:
Well after contacted Sandisk customer services regarding my memory. They asked me to reformat my card and I did that. through my laptop, but it said that windows cannot complete the format. Now the card is dead.
Do the mini sd cards have a lock?
Do these cards have a lock on them? My old SD cards had a slider but I don't see one on the sandisk card.
The miniSD doesn't have a lock, but the miniSD-to-SD adapter does have a slider just like a real SD.
if i take my sd out for any reason it will often take a few goes to get it recognised by the mini s again. I have to remove/insert it as many as 10 times.
I have been using my HTC Touch for almost a year. I have 2 storage cards, a 1GB and a 2GB. The other day I noticed missing software while using my Touch and found out the phone did not recognize the 2GB storage card (which has all my backup info on it). I assumed this was a card error and installed the 1GB card which also has all my backup stuff on it.
Neither card shows up in the File Explorer and the files on the cards are not accessible. When I put these cards in my computer they are totally readable.
Is this a known issue? Any clues on how to solve it?

i had the exact same issue and returned my device (elfin), in a month later got replaced (some parts) back. it was defenitly hadrware failure in my case.
I've seen at least two similar problems get resolved by formatting the storage card. Strangely though....both those devices were HTC ones. If your computer is reading the card, copy all the info onto it including your backup file and then try giving the format a shot. If it works for you.
Storage Card not recognized
I have happily been using HTC touch w/8 gb storage card, then today storage card was not showing up, did soft reset and it was there again but lost 2 programs and had to reinstall.
HTC is a mess
I was able to get my card recognized again by doing a reformat of the card. My review of the HTC Touch would be a failing grade, I'm afraid. Within the next 3 months I expect to buy out my contract and get an iPhone. The hardware plugin on my HTC is failing again (2nd time). I'm sure they'll offer me another replacement phone, which will once again require me to reinstall all my software, etc etc. I've never seen anything quite as incompetent as this phone. I saw another guy with one the other day and asked him, "How do you like your phone?" So he says it's been great. Works good. Then he adds that this is the SECOND one, since they had to replace his original. LOL I guess HTC and Windows Mobile have set a new standard for cell phones. It can still be a "great" phone, even though you need to replace it eveey year with a new one.
Im running the TF2d and have recently purchased a 4gig micro.
For some reason the tilt is only seeing somewhere in the range of
2.25 gigs?
Thought i saw some sort of utility for this? Anyone ? Anyone?
Bueller?
(i searched till my fingers bled- found nothing but older posts on this
my apologies if i missed something!)
Thanks
Ok I'm off to work to go build the cheapest network money can buy on a sunday.

How does a card reader handle it?
What capacity is shown if you put the card in its matching card reader (capable of handling microSDHC capacities) connected to your recent desktop PC? Back up whatever you want saved off it then zero fill (used to incorrectly be called low-level formatting) the card using a suitable utility (I use a freebie from the HDDGuru website) then use WinXP to partition and format the card (FAT32 ONLY) and see how that goes.
Im going to try that tonite, thanks for the advice.
It did read 3.89 gigs or something close at one point. I had an issue w/ the card seeming corrupt here and there (the file browser would show nonsense characters when viewing) - so i reformatted. I checked it on my desktop, (winXP) thru two different card readers (newer ones w/ sdhc slot) and it only shows as 2.25 or so now.
Maybe when i reformatted i got this issue you mention. I will try a similar utility and see what happens.
My 4g card did the same thing a simple reformat fixed the issue it was too bad when it was messed it the root of my sd card had files with names like @@*^&$(@^@@* *#@!!)# with file sizes of up to 3.6Gb each so for a while I had a 40G Microsod card
I have recently purchased a Nokia 6 with the intention of using a "previously bought/used" SD card. It's an Emtec SD Card with the following specifications:
Class 10 UHS-I
Read Speed: up to 85MB/s
Write Speed: up to 16MB/s
Compatible with all devices supporting microSDHC and microSDXC standards!!
I Googled which was the best SD cards to use in these phones & the below came up as an option....
"How to choose a MicroSD card for Nokia 3, 5, 6, 8 Android Phones
nokiapoweruser/choose-microsd-card-nokia-android-phones
Nov 28, 2017 - You can get a Class 10 UHS-1 MicroSD cards with great transfer speeds. Nokia 3, 5, 6 support SD card up to 128 GB storage capacity while Nokia 8 supports up to 256 GB. Click on the links below for your market to check available UHS-1 cards on Amazon and choose one for your Nokia smartphone."
The problem I have is that if I format it as "internal" it says the SD card is slow......however, if I format it as "portable" there are no issues!!
I'd like it to be formatted as "internal" because it then allows ALL apps to be moved to the SD card.
So if anyone has an idea as to why this is happening & how it can be prevented.....I'd certainly love to hear your replies
Thank you in advance
This is may caused by encryption of the SD card but I am no expert on this field... microSD cards are really bad at writing very small files so that could be a reason too :silly:

Trust me, I'm no expert either!! But this is happening while I'm trying to format the card.....there's nothing on it & it works fine once formatted as portable?
I'm sooo confused :silly:
same here bro..
I have the same issue with the Nokia 6, but with a Lexar UHS-II card. Was told by Nokia support to send it back to the retailer. I did. Got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
Next I sent it directly to a Nokia service point, got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
So I sent it in a third time (including the SD card this time) and I'm still waiting to get it back. (which I hope to be a good sign, since they received it on Dec. 11 and it's Jan. 02 as I'm writing this. I guess they're ACTUALLY looking into it this time.)
I will update here as soon as I get it back. IF I get the same phone, not a replacement.
I think this is a software related issue, I doubt that there are so many faulty devices without Nokia noticing. If an SD card gets formatted as internal, Android reformats it with the Linux Filesystem Ext4 and encrypts it. In order to write and read data from the SD card, it has to encrypt / decrypt that data every time. I suspect that the Nokia devices struggles somewhere in this process.

I don't know if it's really that many devices, since every time I made contact with Nokia Support they told me (after throughout questioning) it seems to be a very rare problem, so they couldn't tell me any further other than that I should send it in for repairs. Same goes for the retailer I bought it off.

hmmmmm..... I have a spare mSD card, i gonna test it. I will also look for a benchmark program...
It is a SanDisk Extreme 16G Class10 3-in-a-little-U microSDHC1. I do not have the packing anymore but Google says it has 60MBPS Read and 40MBPS Write speed.
I finished my testing: Although there is noticeable difference in the overall lag, it is not that heavy and the phone is still useable... i also tested Scout with an offline map installed and internet access disabled: with everything on internal storage: 5s start time; with everything moved via App2SD, it takes 13s to load.
I did not notice any huge performance drop though
So I got the phone back a few days ago, saying this is a software problem which should be fixed as soon as the Oreo update is installed. Hopefully they're right.
Huh... Weird indeed...
Thanx Heaps
Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for replying.....it's VERY much appreciated & great to know I'm not the only one with this issue!!
2ndly, a couple of things I failed to mention in my original post as I didn't want it to be too long.
Directly before posting my original question, I had actually been live chatting with Nokia support for well over an hour in relation to this problem & I had also tried a 2nd SD card (also Sandisk but had the same issue as my Emtec SD card) while live chatting......in the end I was told they would raise my issue with a higher department & someone would get back to me (still haven't heard back) & due to my frustration I'd forgotten a specific phrase that was coming up on my phone when trying to format it & was reminded by Meuselwitz's post..........after "both" SD card attempts the phrase "This SD card appears to be slow. You can continue, but apps moved to this location may stutter & data transfers may take a long time. Consider using a faster SD card for better performance"!!
I'm using what Nokia recommend!!!
Also, Karlsruhe......were you informed of when that Oreo update was going to be?? Or has it happened???
Hmm... What a shame that Support did not answer. Did you buy your SD cards online? I once bought a "SanDisk" on ebay but it was a (pretty good tho) scam which had significant speed issues and only ~2GB storage (I bought it as 16GB)
As a side note: Meuselwitz and Karlsruhe are (German) cities, not usernames
(well Meuselwitz is more like a village but no one cares anyway)
So... finally the support (via chat) gave me the solution to this problem: you need a card with at least 80mb/s write speed. Got myself a Samsung pro plus card, and it's fine.
That was it? Wow... Okay, I am glad that your problem is solved now :good:

My apologies....I've only just noticed the names at the top of the box.....I'm soooo sorry
I actually can't remember where I bought it.....looks like I'll have to buy another!! It does have 64GB thankfully I'll put this one in my work phone & the new one in the Nokia
You're all awesome
Thank you all again so very much I would not have been able to deal with support again!!
It is so good to know that "I'm not the only one" with issues with a new phone & to be able to get fantastic advice & feed back is even better
& the fact that I'm pretty unskilled when it comes to technology doesn't help my cause lol I'd rather build something
Also.....how bad would it be of me to finish this huge "Thank You".....with another question???
OK....so here goes, I'm trying to work out why, when I'm sent an MMS message that it automatically puts it into a group message with the person who sent it & "my phone"?? Then when I send a message back to the person who sent the original MMS I receive the exact same message :crying:
Any advice would be truly welcomed
Thank you in advance

I was having the same issue with an older Sandisk Ultra card.
Switched to a Samsung EVO select, issue resolved.
I have a similar problem with a verbatim premium of 256gb with my Nokia
Hello I bought a verbatim card of 256gb class 10, at first my phone recognized the card with 260gb, when I tried to use it as portable device, but when I tried to format as internal storage, the device start to popup a message unsupported SD card. This device doesn't support this card. After that I TRIED to format in setting and then with a computer with the app SD memory card formatter , and the computer recognized the card and I can transfer files, but when I put the card in the Nokia 6, it's show the message unsupported card, what I have to do in this case. I want to use the SD card in the Nokia 6
