Is it possible to change the directory that HTC Album looks into for pictures?
HTC Album application only looks in My Pictures on the Device and the root DCIM Folder on the storage card. I dont know if you can change the registry or if there is any other solution? I have Windows Media player syncing my pictures taken in the last 30 day automatically but it will only put it in the "My Pictures" folder on the Storage card. It would be nice to have this process automated when I sync and changing the directory location for HTC Album should do the trick. Any body know a fix or is willing to help.
I have an HTC Touch Dual (Nike) but I imagine if the change is possible, it should work on all devices running this application.
On a side note, does any body know how to change the resolution of the images being synced through Windows Media Player? It copies over a low resolution image 320X240 or smaller, and I would like to resize it to something a little larger.
Thanks

I think when you start up your camera, it asks you where you want to store hte photos, and HTC Camera uses that same folder to explore the pictures.

It does; but unfortunately on the Touch Dual, when you first start up the camera your only options are Device or Storage Card and no other option to to choose a directory.
ok so when i first installed htc album it worked properly... i know have 2 issues with this prog... when i open htc album it is no longer in landscape mode and all my pics are turned 90 degrees.... the 2nd issue is when i use my camera and hit the pictures button it doesnt take me back to htc album... any help would be greatly appreciated.
For some reason it doesn't search my DCIM directory on my storage card. I have to rename the my pictures folder on my documents. But then it searches all folders and gives me too many pics. Any suggestions?

Try this one guys

Nadavi just posted this one in the HTC cab thread, haven't tried it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1704152&postcount=189
The registry hack only changes to access all folders on the SD card
My problem is I need it to access the "My Pictures" folder only and I dont want to rename it to "_My Pictures". If I rename I lose Syncing capability with WMP and if I have it search the whole card it will grab a bunch of unwanted images and thumbs from music and my documents folder that I dont want associated with HTC Album.
The Cab for the HTC Album with Directory may work but I hesitate because HTC Album came factory on my phone and works flawlessly. Cooked apps may cause problems in opperation(who knows it varies between devices)
I really look forward to a Touch Dual forum (nike) to find out how it operates on the same device.
Thanks-
jcostanza4
what is the reg hack i would not mind it searching the whold sd card it's better that searching the whole device and have pics from web sites that i have visited

I have a S200 too and want to use the same trick. I tried to copy with file explorer and with Resco explorer, but it refused to copy. I got a "access denied" message in file explorer and the message that the file is blocked because it is in use with Resco.

I'm trying to use this app with the iPhone skin. The folders option version doesn't work with the iPhone skin (it seems that the folder select menu isn't a proper 'window' and fails to show up in front of the iPhone skin). So I need a workaround...
You guys suggested renaming _My Pictures which works but finds too many pictures and is slow (as you know), and the registry hack did nothing for me (except get rid of the gestures).
I found this in another thread - apparently you can add this into the lnk to specify a directory. Has anyone got this to work? I don't know the correct syntax or maybe it just doesn't work?
-directory:
-type:image
-type:video
-mode:camera
Obviously the mode:camera/picture and type: syntaxes work... But I can't seem to get the -directory thing to work
Maybe there has been one you want
In some bbs of China, there is a verson.
You can choose the folder when you start and the pictures of the app are moved from \windows to "\HTCAlbum" in order to speed the HTCAlbum.

How about a converter for jpeg to bitmap? A freeware would also be nice.
You can also try a free application called Photo2PPC

cktlcmd: GIMP and paint.net are both free and are more than capable for simple jpg > bmp conversion.
However, even free-er than free, load a jpg into internet explorer, choose file > save as, and save as a .bmp. Voila

I was visiting your site and saw VJBassHue. I wanted to ask how can I change the color, there was no explanation on your site.
Another question please, out of topic: How do you setup SmallMenu to show your desired folders or applications?
cktlcmd: VJBaseHue. Have a hunt around for ZeBoxx's posts/theory on the matter (also his enormous contributions in the Wiki).
VJBaseHue is, like most of my stuff, a command line tool.
If you need any help with command lines (I'm sure not!), check here:
http://vijay555support.host4phpbb.com/viewtopic.php?t=30
check out ZeBoxx's example shortcuts that come with VJBaseHue.
Then use his online chart, choose a colour, and edit the shortcuts.
eg
\program files\vijay555\vjbasehue\vjbasehue.exe 187
I think - from memory!

I'm using the Plus version, but basically you just point it towards a folder, containing subfolders or shortcuts to other folders, and it parses out a menu from there. Extremely customisable, too much so perhaps, but once I made the effort, I haven't changed my setup on both WM5 and Wm2003.

Yes, I got as far as this. I too bought the plus version after I read your recomendation about SmallMenu. I am glad I did. Basically my question was misunderstood. What I want to know is how can I change the format of small menu? I checked the settings in small menu and it has no options like the one showed on your picture from your above post. How can I make it look like your settings?
I was using the bitmap conversion to change the windows icon on the start menu using SmallMenu. I was successful to change the windows start icon to a Palm icon. Just playing around a bit.
Christian: sorry, I'm still not quite getting which bit you can't customise?
Do you mean like the folder icons, eg how I have a star for favorites? Or something else?

Yes, the folder icons, etc... How did you arrange it that way? SmallMenu has no check lists as to which applications would be allowed to be showed or suppressed.
Thanks for your patience.
Hey, thanks for your patience!
Ok, Assuming you're talking about my top level menu, !Favorites etc, I use the ! to ensure important folders come before any others. They're arranged alphabetically of course.
To get the icon in the menu, eg the star for favorites, you need an icon library in a dll or .exe.
10:
Make a shortcut (best perhaps with notepad the first time, after that use an explorer program) and write:
30#"\Windows\PHMShell32.dll,-173"
Save that into Icon.lnk.
Here I'm using the icon library that came with PHM Tools. Very useful.
Stick the Icon.lnk into any folder, and probably after a reboot, you'll have a star for your folder icon.
Goto 10
break;
Ok. So now you have nicely iconed folders, just arrange your subfolders appropriately, and SmallMenu will parse and cascade .lnks and subfolders into nice menus.

Excellent!!! finallY!
Nifty little application that works in WM6 too! Definitely a keeper.
Many thanks for that little jewel.
The simplicity of this solution is exactly I was looking for, it assigns ringtone to ringtone fileld in contact. No registry hacks, no monitorning incoming calls, it not resides in memory all the time, simply like that!
Problems I've found so far:
- ringtones must be copied to \Windows\Rings\ folder to be visible (at last on my WM6 TyTn). It think app shoud look for rings in \My Documents\, \My Documents\My Ringtones\ or maybe in custom defined folder?
Enhancements proposal:
- option to remove ring from group (to allow system global ringtone to be used)
- backup/restore. It will be helpful after OS upgrade because Outlook/ActiveSync ignores ringtone field in contact data. Simple text format of the file will be great i.e. to maually change ringtone location/name before restore.

Great app, good work on this.
I'm going to test instead of PhotoContacts (yes, i know about photos, but for me the most important thing is to assign different ringtones to different category).
Thanks.

This was a great little app - thank you loads!
I have developed the idea a stage further, inspired by this, and have made a new app called 'Tone Manager' which lets you do it "all in one sweep" if you see what I mean - basically, you assemble a list of categories / ringtones, order them by priority, and then it sweeps through your contacts and assigns ringtones.
Release thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327254
Thanks again!

V3Patel, Outstanding!! I've been going crazy looking for an app like this one.
Tried it on my herald with WM6 and worked. If you don't mind, I found two bugs that could help you improve:
1. For some reason it didn't creat the shortcut needed for it to appear on the programs folder. Easy solution though.
2. It does support the storage card, but doesn't tell you it does. What I did was hit the search button beside the folder option, tap on any of my storage card .mp3 ringtones and voila... storage card appears as an option.
Thanks

Create a Shortcut
Your problem happened to many of us. Depending of where you chose to install it, say program memory or the storage card, go to the progam files folder within it. There you'll find a folder called VipRingCab... copy the application file inside it and then paste it as a shortcut in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs... And problem solved.
THANKS!

it needs to open the HTC Album but how? I saw this:
"- to set album being default viewer go to HKLM - software - htc - htcalbum - default viewer set to "1""
and did it this way:
Then soft reseted the device and it didn't work... it opens the "Picture & Video" again.
Please help!
the camera uses the file pimg.exe, which is hard coded in the rom. to get the htc album instead, you'd have to make a copy of the htc album shortcut and htcalbum.exe and rename them pimg.exe and use something like resco explorer to overwrite the one in your windows directory

Does the "Album" button in your Camera actually open HTCAlbum? Mine still opens the MSapp. This is because it is hardcoded to point to pimg.exe and a new version hasn't been released for the rest of the phones.
What those registry-edits do (and say they do) is to change what is the default open-with program. Essentially, when you click on a .bmp in File Explorer (etc), it'll open with HTCAlbum, instead of the Picture Viewer.
The only way to get the buttons in camera to launch htc album is to make a copy of htc album and rename it to pimg as said. However, this is very buggy due to the way the camera launches htc album. When you click on those buttons that triggers pimg, htc album launches but bottom tray is broken, and you cannot access the "X" button. Clicking on task manager "X" button does nothing. Also, if you cannot go back to the camera, the camera will be running in the background, which causes a bunch of problems until you close the camera from memory management.

WARNING following the last suggestion in that link, could result in a forced hard reset. My touch panel was set to 30xxx and i changed it to 400 like it said. Touch screen is dead, and to my knowledge theres no way to fix it on a sprint touch. I tried to use a third party app to control the phone but i cant even click okay let the app run without the touch screen. I can get into the registry and and stare at the 400 number using only hardware buttons. Its just staring at me, damnit i really dont want to hard reset i have alot of things set up just how i want them.
The best solution is to install the new camera app from Nadavi... the shortcut goes directly to HTC camera album =)

Usage:
- Tap and hold outside of a PictureBox element and select "Load Configuration File" *
- Exit is in the same menu
- Tap on a picture and sound plays
- ???????
- Profit!
*Due to an irritating bug in the .NET compact framework, files can only be seen in "user areas" such as My Documents, so you must place the configuration file there, but providing the files path are correct, the resources can go in *any* folder
Sound files can be in any format, you will hear the system default beep if the file cannot be played. Images can be in any format, and will be scaled to 100x100px when loaded in. If you want them to be sharp, try to keep them as close to this resolution as possible
Note: This has been made in the QVGA environment, but should scale to VGA correctly, images will have to be 200x200px to be sharp as they are scaled up.
More information and download HERE
Edit: Forgot to say, i've included a test set, although there are no sounds in it. This can be edited/removed, and is only really there to give you a head start, and to save me explaining how it works...

Glad you like it. I'd have liked to make it a little simpler to use. If I had a folder browser object, I could simply get a folder to look in, and it'd be alot easier to configure and move around...
Alas, it's not in the 3.5 conpact framework, so i'd have to make my own. If more people like it, I may consider improving it though...

It was compiled for 3.5, and probably won't run with 2.0. To open the config, you need to tap and hold at the edge of the white area of the form, and a menu will appear. Select the "load option" from in there.
For the program to "see" the config file, it has to be in "my documents" either on the device, or on a storage card/internal storage. The config file *does not* have to be in the same place as the resources, but the file locations will have to be changed. I'm afraid, as I mentioned in the first post, that this is a limitation which I have no immediate control over, unless I make my own control... Sorry
As can be seen in this scr the ini file should be visable below the Templates folder but the config load does not see it.... normally the file type would indicate *.ini etc... but instead says "Configuration Files

OK... to use my config you must copy the "Learn Animals" folder to the root of your "Internal Storage". Follow Brins0's instructions to load the config from your "My Documents Folder"
Don't become too complacent however.
If your not running on a Diamond or you want to store the "Learn Animals" folder in a different location you will have to edit the "Learn Animals.ini" to reflect your chosen path.

Cool your a star i`ll give it a go....
Wow, I didn't realise that such a simple program would be such a big hit. I may try and change the way configurations are stored to make it a little easier, if I can work out how to get just a folder name. Then you wouldn't have to have a config file at all, just a folder with images and sounds labelled 1 to 6.
By the way, it will work with any kind of image and sound, not just PNGs and WAVs. I only used those to demonstrate, coz they are the file types which suffer least from compression.
Hi, this is very cool just what i needed. I have found a problem though. Its nowt to do with the programming its more to do with my daughter!
She presses the hardware buttons and ends up going back to home screen. Is there anything that can be done to solve this?

One thing I could try would be forcing the form to be the top most window at all times, but this means that you cannot do anything until you close the application, or another window insists on being the top most form.
Edit: another way I thaught of doing this, would be to hook into the event for when the form loses focus, and then re-show the form when the event is fired. Although this would mean there's no way of getting out if there is a problem with the program... The best thing to do would be to ahve an option in the menu, defaulting to on, which will keep the window focused at all times...
I'll experiment later on for you... Check back later

I've made the proposed changes now, and the form is always on top now, irrigardless of whether there's another form active. Unfortunately, sometimes the upper bar shows through if another application is opened, but after tapping on the form, it vanishes again...
Hope that's better for you now
I just had to make a StarWars sound board
and just like on citats files
To use copy the "StarWars" folder to the root of your "Internal Storage".

Thanx brins0 for a great app... my friends will hate me now!
Just a fairly simple idea that occurred to me, I thaught it would be very useful to have a small application that just exchanged files. For example when copying manila files to windows it would be useful if you could exchange the new file for the old one and then when the mess was made it would be easy to just press swap again and all would be as before.
Select file, select destination, press ok and that would be it, the origional windows file would now be where the new one was. If I'm not being clear enough I mean, the windows file would be "backed up" automatically to the location of the file you are exchanging it with, ready to swap back if necessary. Think about it!!
Well I can't make such an app. Does no-one even have a comment on the idea, I think a lot of people would use this if it existed. Or is there already something that can do what I am asking?

you could use a file sync program, most of the good ones have the ability to connect to virtually anything.
I pay for one called "Super Flexible" it has a portable install, if you are interested i could send it to you with a(my) serial?
PM me if you like the sound

Thanks for your reply. Probably not a good idea to mention serials here but thanks anyway. I will have a read up about that and see if it can do what I was thinking of.
Had a quick google on that and it looks rather complex for what I want. The software I want would be a simple tool that only copied to the windows folder while making a backup of the files it was overwriting at the same time. It would not do anything else since there are so many tools that do everything but this already, like Resco or TC. I think a simple tool like this would be of benefit to the whole community. At the moment to say install a new clock in TF3D I might make a .cab or just copy the file into my windows folder with TC, then if I don't like the new clock, it is not so straight forward to simply uninstall the new clock. If I delete the files or uninstall the .cab my manila will not revert back to my previous clock, but it will revert back to the original clock built into the rom, so I have to make yet another installation of the previous clock. I have had a lot of clocks, some I made myself and some by others (whiskeybro and mbord). Often I am just trying a small change, like a date colour or a clock hand or a slider and with the app I am proposing it would be so easy to just switch back and forth. I also seem to be trying a lot of other stuff like new bluetooth icons or shellres192 dlls or phcanOverbmps, I hope you see what I mean.

but what you want it an on-the-fly file changer that needs to access the root of the device (not the internal storage) so this would have to be achieved through activesync, as this is the only way i have seen the windows dir of the device on my pc.
since this is the case you can do this through windows explorer by changing the view settings to the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Put a check in the top box, and remove the check from the bottom box.
then when you plug your phone in, select activesync (you dont need to have a setup as this works if you select "connect without configuring"), then you can browse the windows dir and backup and change what you like.
if this solution is not good i can look into writing something.
How about you look into the code of Diamond Config. It does something VERY similar except it deletes all the manilla files first and then transfers them over. It also has a backup feature. IF you could modify it and make it not delete and just overwrite, then it shoud work. Or PM the creator of Diamond Config.
